Lex Frieden Employment Award

SBMI Professor Lex Frieden, MA, LLD (hon) was interviewed on KUHF 88.7 FM by Business Reporter Andrew Schneider for a story about the Led Frieden Employment Award. The annual employment awards were recently renamed after disability rights champion and independent living movement leader Lex Frieden, one of the architects of the landmark Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990.

Each year during the month of October (National Disability Employment Awareness Month), a local committee in Texas hosts the Annual Employment Awards Ceremony, and the winners in each of several categories are introduced to an appreciative audience.

Biomedical Informatics Became a STEM Program

Biomedical Informatics is in the list of the fields that have been recently added to the STEM designated degree programs by U.S. Customs and Immigration Enforcement (ICE). SBMI students on F-1 visa is now eligible to apply for additional Optional Practical Training period of time of 17 months following the first 12 months all F-1 students qualify for. If you have any questions or concerns, please contact the Office of International Affairs. The OPT STEM Extensions information and Request Form can be found on the UTHealth International Office’s website (http://www.uth.tmc.edu/intlaffairs/Forms/forms.htm#F1instructionsforms).
