Are video games affecting boys? Enough for me to be aware of how much time I want my boys playing them... and they are only 3 and 1 right now.

Interesting information that is out about video games and boys. Some of the connections are staggering, some seem far fetched, but is definitely something parents should be aware of!

6:30am - "DaddyO, I'm poopy." Clean and change Isaac out of his wet and poopy undies. "Isaac, do you know what day it is?"
"It's Daddy's birthday."
"Do you know what Daddy wants for his birthday?"
"A fire truck."
"No, for you to pee and poop in the potty all day."
"Okay, I'm hungry."

7:30am - Wife makes a family breakfast and surprises me with my favorite wild cherry juice pouches.

8:00am - Watch my favorite cartoon with Isaac... Curious George.

9:00am - Isaac sang me Happy Birthday before I left for work.

10:00am - Thinking that moms should really be the ones who get celebrated on your birthday for having to birth.

11:00am - Grandpa sings me Happy Birthday over the phone, but thinks I'm someone else... HILARIOUS!

11:30am - Skyline with my family, some co-workers and a bunch of 5th and 6th graders. Wife brought cookies for everyone!

1:30pm - Co-workers at church brought in goodies to make smoothies for The Smoothie King.

4:00pm - Just realized I'm still in my prime.

5:30pm - Favorite pizza with the family... Donatos 3 Cheese Pepperoni and Bacon.

7:00pm - Life Group... chatting about The Bible and life with some good friends who just happened to bring over many treats, balloons and gourmet popsicles.

10:00pm - Laid in bed with Isaac until he fell asleep because he had too much sugar.

11:30pm - Thankful for God, family, friends and feel very special by the birthday attention... Thank you and goodnight now!

Jordan's first Christmas was this year. He basically just enjoyed sitting in the middle of everyone, watching and playing with the wrapping paper. It is hard to believe this is Isaac's third Christmas already. All he wanted this year was anything to do with trains. It was a delightful 2011 Schultz Christmas!

Christmas cards are a big deal in our family, especially now that we have kids. With Laurie's side of the family we do an over the top colored theme picture as a family during Thanksgiving weekend. On my side, my mommy and sister-in-law manage to get their Christmas cards out and in our mailbox before I can digest my Thanksgiving dinner. So the pressure is on to deliver! There was one more warm enough day outside last weekend and we took the boys out to a field.

Laurie on her blog SchultzeeGirl has each year the Christmas Card Rejects. Love the idea, it builds unmanageable anticipation. Here are my favorite rejects (not my boys, the omitted pictures from the Christmas Card)...

JordO is growing up fast. At my rate of blogging right now, he will be driving on my next post. The boy doesn't like to pace himself. He decided to do everything within a week or two. I think he could walk by Christmas if he decided to work hard enough, but he spends too much time eating/whining to eat... so we'll see what happens.

The boys are growing like weeds. Jordan is going through the 6-9 month stage right now, which was one of my most favorite with Isaac. Jumping, rolling all over the place, trying foods, goo-ing, ga-ing and screeching... and the laughing. His hair is getting lighter and the cheeks are getting bigger.

Meanwhile, Isaac's hair is staying ginger and his cheeks are getting smaller. The boy talks more everyday and I can barely keep up with his vocabulary. I asked him to do something last week and he said, "No, I'm good." I said, "Who do you think you are talking like that?" He said, "I'm Isaac Schultz!" What can I do but laugh?

I was waiting all summer to see Isaac's reaction to the ocean for the 1st time. I wondered whether a 2 year old would realize the magnitude of the ocean. I had a vision of my 2 year old running and giggling into the waves. Isaac was excited to finally see the waves and touch them, but he was definitely cautious. His 2 favorite phrases were:
"The waves coming." and "Oh, it's big waves."

Here is the whimsical Schultz Family photo op we did for GQ, People, National Enquirer and Guitar World Magazines. We snapped as many pictures as possible for 10 minutes before the eye of Hurricane Isaac's storm came barreling down on us (He did have a little fever).

Family "Vacation" means something completely different when you take 2 boys 2 and under with you. Since they were on the letter "I" for hurricanes, I thought it would have been amazing if it was called "Isaac" instead of "Irene". We did leave a day early to avoid the travel madness at airports during hurricanes. Isaac was a little hurricane from time to time, but only fond memories are left in my heart when I think about our time in North Myrtle Beach. Boys were great on the plane and pretty good in the car. Here is Part 1 of a... let's say 3 Part Series.

HeyO...I'm back baby! I've traveled, vacationed, read, made videos and have pictures and things to share. Sometimes I need a break from blogging to enjoy it again. Let's pick up from August - my wife gifted/allowed me to go out to Durango, CO to visit her brother as a 30th birthday present. Missed my wife and kids, but it was a much appreciated time to recharge (I recharge by doing fun manly stuff, as well as resting). Here is a little highlight video of my time out west.

Who Needs Advil?

Woke up this morning with a not so fun headache. The boys were nice enough to sleep in till 7:30, but I couldn't sleep past 7:00. So I decided to find something funny for one of them to wear and take some pictures when they got up. The outfit Jordan is wearing is something we bought in Hawaii while Laurie was prego with Isaac. Thought it would be fun to get on him before he outgrew it... plus I know he can fit in it, so he can wear it when we go to Myrtle Beach. Isaac got in on the action and it turned into brother photoshoot, which make for my favorite pics anyway... they took my headache away.

HOOPLA - bustling excitement or activity
The first ever Camp Hoopla that we put on at church was this past week. Kids going into 1st - 6th grade from July 25th - 29th. Completely amazing and exhausting at the same time. Interns really stepped up and volunteers were amazing! Loved it and cannot wait to do it again next year!

Is Jesus Legit?

This is one of the first books I read after I decided to follow Jesus. I was hungry for historical support to what I was now living my life for. I've always had doubts just like most people... that's healthy. This book or video doesn't slam the door shut to prove everything or convince an agnostic or atheist to say "I quit" but it's still a great resource to encourage belief in Jesus' historical existence and the credibility of the New Testament.

Saved By the Bell is still the greatest show ever made for kids, teens and even adults. It was paramount in the decisions that I made during my teenage years! Here is a small trip down memory lane to show how this tremendous show made such an impact on my life...

It was everything I thought high school was going to be, but wasn't.

I didn't know what a cell phone was until I saw Zack Morris with one... but I still didn't get one until I was in college.

I learned how to treat girls if you want them to date you... but I wasn't that bold so I didn't have a girlfriend.

"Slater, haven't you heard of the Women's Movement?" - Jessie
"Sure. Put on something cute and MOVE it into the kitchen." - Slater

Slater proved that it was cool to go for things you were good at and be brave... but I didn't try out for any sports and didn't go to any dances.

It dealt with issues that I hadn't thought about yet and that helped to keep me out of trouble.

Jessie proved that caffeine pills are in fact drugs... that frightened me away from wanting to be a valedictorian and from forming a music group called Hot Sundae at the same time.

The way Lisa treated Screech helped me have a constant fear of girls and rejection... so I never had trouble with girl drama because I was too afraid of them.

"Will you go to the prom with me?" - Screech
"Yeah, I'll go." - Lisa
"You will!" - Screech
"I'll go with you when worms have ears." - Lisa

Kelly turned down a hunky movie star because of pot... I just turned down pot from ordinary people, but didn't get a chance to do it to a movie star.

As educational and life changing as that all is, it doesn't come close to the real inspiration of Saved By the Bell.

3 Months - Isaac vs Jordan

Little man is 3 months old. Now that Laurie is getting good at this photography and editing thing, we don't need to be dropping big bucks on photo shoots... we can do our own.
It is no secret that 3 months is when I, as a daddy, feel like I'm really beginning to connect and have engagement with the little fellas. It is like the personality switch gets turned on and away we go.

3 Month Comparison - Isaac looks like a sweet angelic little baby, Jordan looks like a cute teenager... boy is huge and looks much older! It is funny to think Isaac even used to look like that. Time goes by so quick with kids when they change so much.. it must be cherished. Call me crazy, but I've seen Isaac in Jordan every time I look at him. 3 Month memory lane...
