Gratuitous use of the F Word

If more people actually put these on their cars, the world would be a much happier place. If you were behind someone with a "Fuck you, you fucking fuck" sticker, wouldn't that just brighten your day? Instead, I am reminded to support the troops and that the hummer ahead of me is "in loving memory" of someone who apparently died at the age of 14. Shit, I didn't need to know that. Public Television showed a lot of neat educational shows during the day back in the 70's and 80's. One of them was Thinkabout. which was designed for "fifth and sixth grade students to understand their learning process in topics as varied as language arts, mathematics, study skills, as well as thinking skills."

This was one show that stuck with me. Unfortunately, it is also a show that the AIT has not released to the public. I would like to watch some of those episodes again.

A fascinating article by Henry Walcott called "Ethnographers sans Ethnography" documents the inception of the program and it's goals.

I wonder if there is any programming available today is similar to Thinkabout?

I was looking up info on a very small town in which I used to live and saw there used to be a general aviation facility nearby.

Maybe one of the over 1,300 Abandoned & Little-Known Airfields is near where you grew up.

Larry Mantle speaks with Dr. Robert Lawrence Kuhn, author of the article Why This Universe: Toward a Taxonomy of Possible Explanations from the most recent issue of Skeptic magazine, about the many possible explanations for the existence of our universe.

The interview is on an episode of AirTalk today (7/31) and was very good. Unfortunately, the site seems to only have it in Real Audio format.

The article is at Skeptic Magazine in a PDF file. There are 85 endnotes on this thing, so you know it has to be good.

As for the magazine itself, I find it sensationalist and just itching to pick a fight. The article is worth reading though.

A fine idea

Using Picasa's public photo galleries, an enterprising Australian couple (Peter and Judith) has set up a sort of shopping site that shows off their wares. PJs Wood-Works Nostalgic Tin Signs has a lot of great old signs (as shown) and the "main store" has many more categories.

Brian Kane points to a video of a seagull with a penchant for Doritos. As a bird owner, I enjoy seeing stuff like this. They can be damn clever at times.

I think I got the Italian correct in the headline, since this Italian photo site has a great picture of a seagull with what looks like a piece of bread in it's beak with the same phrase.

This is getting so easy now

I was going to post some really trippy videos of Tangerine Dream performing "Ricochet" live. This was when electronic music needed banks of equipment (and, apparently, 100's of candles.) Then I was going to post a link to "Love on a Real Train" from the Risky Business soundtrack as a way of saying "You've heard these guys before."

I was going to do those things, but it was done a couple of months ago at postpolitical. Check out the Late Friday Night Tangerine Dream Post.

(most everything else on that site is pure crap, but he did beat me to the TD post, so I am linking it instead of stealing it. The guys who run it look young enough to go fight for our freedom. I wonder why they aren't. They are probably part of "Generation Chickenhawk". Fuckers.)
