It's a new arrival written by Shawn Whitney. Who is an award-winning screenwriter with three feature film credits and several TV series that have been internationally acclaimed. He has written more than a dozen books and has had nine novels published to his name. Deads Rise is his latest work. He writes subversive fiction with a pulp vibe. Deads Rise is a zombie novel starring them as the hero. This fresh, provocative take on the zombie genre asks readers to reconsider what it means to be human – or 'dead' – in a world where evolution has been reversed.

It was as sudden as it was devastating. Everyone on the indicated planet aged 13-45 died simultaneously and suddenly. They awoke eight hours later, but the world was forever changed for them and for the world around them.

Most survivors believe the zombie apocalypse has arrived. Some think what is happening is a shocking evolutionary leap. What fate awaits the dead? The dead struggle to escape annihilation as anti-dead militias prepare to hunt them down.

The developing plot portrays Tanitia Mortero, a young California scientist, on a dangerous cross-country journey to join a research team. Another man, an anti-dead, leads the dead of New York into a civil war with a messianic militia. A young man raised in a small-town cult struggles to survive while his neighbors try to burn him at the stake as a demon.

The novel is thrilling and makes a great leisure pass if you have the time to spare.

किसी -किसी भवन में बारह दरवाज़े होते हैं इसे बारह दरी कहा जाता है। हमारे शरीर में नौ द्वार हैं इसीलिए इसे नौ द्वारपुर यानी नौ दरवाज़े वाला नगर कहा गया है। ठीक इसी प्रकार जिसे हम प्रकाश कहते बूझते हैं वह दृश्य प्रकाश जिसके वस्तुओं पर पड़ने और फिर टकराकर लौटने के बाद हमारी आँख के परदे से टकराने पर इस संसार का बोध होता है यह दृश्य प्रपंच पंचभूता जगत दिखलाई देता है वह तो कुल प्रकाश ( दृश्य -अदृश्य कुल प्रकाश )का एक छोटा सा अंश एक छोटा सा रोशनदान या खिड़की है।कुल स्पेक्ट्रम बहुत बड़ा है।

प्रकाश का मतलब होता है तरंग की दीर्घता ,लम्बाई या विस्तार ,रंग या तरंग आवृति(फ्रीक्वेंसी )। प्रकाश का मतलब होता है पैकेट आफ एनर्जी जिसे क्वांटम भी कह्देते हैं फोटोन भी।क़्वांटम माने न्यूनतम राशि।

प्रकाश स्पेक्ट्रमी (स्पेक्ट्रम आफ लाइट या एलेक -ट्रोमैग्नेटिक स्पेक्ट्रम )का मतलब होता है वेवलेंग्थ वाइज़ डिस्ट्रीब्यूशन आफ एनर्जी यानी किस रंगके प्रकाश के पास कितनी ऊर्जा है इसका विभाजन।

जिसे हम सतरंगी दृश्य प्रकाश कहते हैं जिसके एक सिरे पर लाल दूसरे पर नीला -बैंजनी रंग है वह तो ३८० से ७०० नैनोमीटर लम्बाई तक की छोटी बड़ीतरंगें हैं इनमें लाल दीर्घतम लम्बाई लिए है बैंजनी न्यूनतम।लाल की ऊर्जा न्यूनतम बैंजनी की महत्तम है। .

दृश्य प्रकाश के सबसे ऊपरी हिस्से लाल से परे और ऊपर अवरक्त(इंफ्रारेड ) उससे भी ऊपर सूक्ष्म -तरंग (माइक्रोवेव रीजन )और उससे भी परे रेडिओ तरंगें यानी दीर्घतमा लम्बाई वाली तरंगें हैं। जिस तरंग की लम्बाई जितनी ज्यादा उसके पास ऊर्जा का धन सबसे कम होगा। रेडिओ तरंग यहां सबसे लम्बी है दृश्य प्रकाश तरंगों की वनिस्पत।

दृश्य प्रकाश के बैंजनी क्षेत्र के नीचे एक्स किरणे उससे भी नीचे गामा किरण क्षेत्र है और सबसे नीचे यानी सबसे छोटी तरंगें कॉस्मिक रेज़ (ब्रम्हांडीय किरणे )हैं यही सबसे ताकतवर ऊर्जावान है। सभी तरंगों का वेग यकसां एक समान रहता है यानी एक सेकिंड में तीन लाख किलोमीटर की दूरी यह निर्वात में चलते हुए या वेक्यूम में दौड़ते तय कर लेती हैं।

(१)In the early 1990s, one thing was fairly certain about the expansion of the universe. It might have enough energy density to stop its expansion and recollapse, it might have so little energy density that it would never stop expanding, but gravity was certain to slow the expansion as time went on. Granted, the slowing had not been observed, but, theoretically, the universe had to slow. The universe is full of matter and the attractive force of gravity pulls all matter together. Then came 1998 and the Hubble Space Telescope (HST) observations of very distant supernovae that showed that, a long time ago, the universe was actually expanding more slowly than it is today. So the expansion of the universe has not been slowing due to gravity, as everyone thought, it has been accelerating. No one expected this, no one knew how to explain it. But something was causing it.

Eventually theorists came up with three sorts of explanations. Maybe it was a result of a long-discarded version of Einstein's theory of gravity, one that contained what was called a "cosmological constant." Maybe there was some strange kind of energy-fluid that filled space. Maybe there is something wrong with Einstein's theory of gravity and a new theory could include some kind of field that creates this cosmic acceleration. Theorists still don't know what the correct explanation is, but they have given the solution a name. It is called dark energy.

What Is Dark Energy?

More is unknown than is known. We know how much dark energy there is because we know how it affects the universe's expansion. Other than that, it is a complete mystery. But it is an important mystery. It turns out that roughly 68% of the universe is dark energy. Dark matter makes up about 27%. The rest - everything on Earth, everything ever observed with all of our instruments, all normal matter - adds up to less than 5% of the universe. Come to think of it, maybe it shouldn't be called "normal" matter at all, since it is such a small fraction of the universe.

Universe Dark Energy-1 Expanding Universe

This diagram reveals changes in the rate of expansion since the universe's birth 15 billion years ago. The more shallow the curve, the faster the rate of expansion. The curve changes noticeably about 7.5 billion years ago, when objects in the universe began flying apart as a faster rate. Astronomers theorize that the faster expansion rate is due to a mysterious, dark force that is pulling galaxies apart.

One explanation for dark energy is that it is a property of space. Albert Einstein was the first person to realize that empty space is not nothing. Space has amazing properties, many of which are just beginning to be understood. The first property that Einstein discovered is that it is possible for more space to come into existence. Then one version of Einstein's gravity theory, the version that contains a cosmological constant, makes a second prediction: "empty space" can possess its own energy. Because this energy is a property of space itself, it would not be diluted as space expands. As more space comes into existence, more of this energy-of-space would appear. As a result, this form of energy would cause the universe to expand faster and faster. Unfortunately, no one understands why the cosmological constant should even be there, much less why it would have exactly the right value to cause the observed acceleration of the universe.

Dark Matter Core Defies Explanation

Another explanation for how space acquires energy comes from the quantum theory of matter. In this theory, "empty space" is actually full of temporary ("virtual") particles that continually form and then disappear. But when physicists tried to calculate how much energy this would give empty space, the answer came out wrong - wrong by a lot. The number came out 10¹²⁰ times too big. That's a 1 with 120 zeros after it. It's hard to get an answer that bad. So the mystery continues.

Another explanation for dark energy is that it is a new kind of dynamical energy fluid or field, something that fills all of space but something whose effect on the expansion of the universe is the opposite of that of matter and normal energy. Some theorists have named this "quintessence," after the fifth element of the Greek philosophers. But, if quintessence is the answer, we still don't know what it is like, what it interacts with, or why it exists. So the mystery continues.

A last possibility is that Einstein's theory of gravity is not correct. That would not only affect the expansion of the universe, but it would also affect the way that normal matter in galaxies and clusters of galaxies behaved. This fact would provide a way to decide if the solution to the dark energy problem is a new gravity theory or not: we could observe how galaxies come together in clusters. But if it does turn out that a new theory of gravity is needed, what kind of theory would it be? How could it correctly describe the motion of the bodies in the Solar System, as Einstein's theory is known to do, and still give us the different prediction for the universe that we need? There are candidate theories, but none are compelling. So the mystery continues.

The thing that is needed to decide between dark energy possibilities - a property of space, a new dynamic fluid, or a new theory of gravity - is more data, better data.

What Is Dark Matter?

By fitting a theoretical model of the composition of the universe to the combined set of cosmological observations, scientists have come up with the composition that we described above, ~68% dark energy, ~27% dark matter, ~5% normal matter. What is dark matter?

We are much more certain what dark matter is not than we are what it is. First, it is dark, meaning that it is not in the form of stars and planets that we see. Observations show that there is far too little visible matter in the universe to make up the 27% required by the observations. Second, it is not in the form of dark clouds of normal matter, matter made up of particles called baryons. We know this because we would be able to detect baryonic clouds by their absorption of radiation passing through them. Third, dark matter is not antimatter, because we do not see the unique gamma rays that are produced when antimatter annihilates with matter. Finally, we can rule out large galaxy-sized black holes on the basis of how many gravitational lenses we see. High concentrations of matter bend light passing near them from objects further away, but we do not see enough lensing events to suggest that such objects to make up the required 25% dark matter contribution.

However, at this point, there are still a few dark matter possibilities that are viable. Baryonic matter could still make up the dark matter if it were all tied up in brown dwarfs or in small, dense chunks of heavy elements. These possibilities are known as massive compact halo objects, or "MACHOs". But the most common view is that dark matter is not baryonic at all, but that it is made up of other, more exotic particles like axions or WIMPS (Weakly Interacting Massive Particles).

Dark Matter Goes Missing in Oddball Galaxy

बागेश्वरी !तुमने मेरे साथ ऑब्सेसिव कम्पलसिव डिसऑर्डर के कुछ लक्षणों की चर्चा की कुछ खुलासा बाइपोलर इलनेस (चित्त की दो दशाओं वाले द्विध्रुवी मनोरोग )के कुछ लक्षण भी साझा किये पहले मामले में सफ़ाई के प्रति एक प्रकार का असंगत व्यवहार चम्मच फर्श पर गिरी तो उठाकर सीधे डस्ट बिन के हवाले कर दी और दूसरे में अतिशय धार्मिकता का प्रकटीकरण- प्रदर्शन निर्जला पूजा अर्चना दिना-नुदिन।

मैं कहता हूँ भवानी दुर्गे इन अनुभवों को साझा करो मनोरोगों की जल्दी शिनाख्त होगी। समाज राष्ट्र के हित में ये बेहद ज़रूरी है।

मेरे परिवेश में भी ऐसा ही एक मनोविकार मौजूद रहा आया है जिससे मेरी संगिनी ही घिरी रहीं अक्सर -उधेड़ लिया बुन लिया कल मैं लौट गए इस पल, दूसरे पल वर्तमान में लौट आये -एक न्यूरोटिक व्यवहार -मैं ये होती तो ये कर लेती ,ये कर लेती तो वो होता।

ऐसा व्यवहार व्यक्ति को वर्तमान से निस्संग बना देता है काट देता है वर्तमान की डोरी।अतीत में तो वैसे ही परछाइयों के अलावा कुछ नहीं होता।

और हाँ !उस दीदी की सुनों तुम पूछ रही थीं -दीदी ने शादी नहीं की। झूठ बोलकर की जबकि मैं अमरीका प्रवास पर था उसे भले आदमी को (और वह भी कहाँ भला था स्साला दुहेजिया उसने भी कहाँ कुछ तुम्हारी इस दीदी को बतलाया था ) कुछ नहीं बतलाया अपने मनोविकार के रूप में ,दीर्घावधि इलाज़ के बारे में ,इंस्टीटूशनलाइज़ होने के बारे में। वही बाइपोलर इलनेस था जिसे पहले ऑब्सेसिव कम्पलसिव बिहेवियर बतलाया मनोविदों ने फिर पैरनोइया (Paranoia )के लक्षण दिखलाई देने पर शिजोफ्रेनिक बिहेवियर बतलाकर का इलाज़ शुरूकर दिया और आखिर में बाइपोलर इलनेस।

इलेक्ट्रो -कनवल्शन -थिरेपी(ECT ) बारहा हुई ,हेवी- ड्रग्स का दौर भी चला अब सब कुछ सतह पर सामान्य सा दिखता है। ज़िंदगी चल पड़ी है। अलबत्ता इनके सामाजिक लेनदेन में नित्य प्रति के रूटीन में बहुत कुछ ऐसा ता -उम्र बना रहता है जिसे स्वीकार करना ही भला है साथ रहे आये व्यक्ति के लिए। अब वह सस्टेनेन्स डोज़ पर है यह सस्टेनेन्स डोज़ रसायनों (ड्रग्स )की वह न्यूनतम मात्रा होती है जिसके लेते रहने से मनोरोग के लक्षण दबे ढ़के रहते है बस साथ रहने वाले को ही इसकी खबर रहती है खबर होती।

बाहर ये अपना सर्वोत्तम प्रदर्शन करने के लिए सब जुगाड़ करते हैं। ओवर डु करते हैं हर सम्बन्ध में । प्रभावित करने की कोशिश करते है संपर्क में आये व्यक्ति को लेकिन अपना कुछ भी असल साझा नहीं करते। इनकी ज़िंदगी में कोई गम भी नहीं होता। हो भी क्यों ये सिर्फ अपनी अपने स्वार्थों की परवाह करते है। लगातर अरक्षित निहथ्था महसूस करते हैं खुद को कह लो इन्कन्सीडरेट होते हैं सेल्फ -सेंटर्ड भी किसी की कटी ऊँगली पे न मूतें ये मनोदिव्य विकारों से ग्रस्त प्राणी।

वक्त के साथ मनोरोगों लक्षण बदलते हैं धनात्मक सकारात्मक भी होते हैं बस इन्हें खुली छूट हर मामले में देते रहने का प्रयास ज़ारी रखिये।

हिन्दुस्तांन में वैवाहिक संस्था में वैसे ही बड़ा फरेब हैं -सब कुछ असल छुपाया जाता हैं यहां। वैसे ही सामान्य मामलों में भी आज तलाक के मामले हिन्दुस्तान की मुस्लिम आबादी की तरह बढ़ रहे हैं। वहां मुस्लिम समाज में हलाला है दूसरी फिर तीसरी शादी का विकल्प भी हैं यहां वृहत्तर सनातनधर्मी भारतधर्मी समाज में ऐसा कुछ भी नहीं हैं इसीलिए वैवाहिक संस्था की हिफाज़त और उसके कंज़र्वेशन के लिए उसे बनाये रखने के लिए शादी से पहले वर -वधु पक्ष को परस्पर पूरी जानकारी साझा करनी चाहिए।

मनोरोग कोई हव्वा नहीं हैं सामाजिक कलंक तो बिलकुल ही नहीं अन्य जीवन शैली रोगों की ही तरह है जिनका कामयाब प्रबंधन बाकायदा मुमकिन है होता रहा है। हौसला रखिये -सब ठीक होगा।बस अपना दायित्व निभाइये साझा कीजिये इन रोगों के बारे में आगे आइये इसी में मेरा आपका समाज का भारत देश का हित है।

कर्णवेध : : कर्णवेध संस्कार का अर्थ होता है कान को छेदना। इसके पांच कारण हैं, एक- आभूषण पहनने के लिए। दूसरा- कान छेदने से ज्योतिषानुसार राहु और केतु के बुरे प्रभाव बंद हो जाते हैं। तीसरा इससे एक्यूपंक्चर होता जिससे मस्तिष्क तक जाने वाली नसों में रक्त का प्रवाह ठीक होने लगता है। चौथा इससे श्रवण शक्ति बढ़ती है और कई रोगों की रोकथाम हो जाती है। पांचवां इससे यौन इंद्रियां पुष्ट होती है।

भावार्थ :-- (श्यामसुन्दर कहते हैं-) `मैया ! मेरी चोटी कब बढ़ेगी ? मुझे दूध पीते कितनी देर हो गयी पर यह तो अब भी छोटी ही है । तू जो यह कहती है कि दाऊ भैया की चोटी के समान यह भी लम्बी और मोटी हो जायगी और कंघी करते, गूँथते तथा स्नान कराते समय सर्पिणी के समान भूमि तक लोटने (लटकने) लगेगी (वह तेरी बात ठीक नहीं जान पड़ती)। तू मुझे बार-बार परिश्रम करके कच्चा (धारोष्ण) दूध पिलाती है, मक्खन-रोटी नहीं देती ।'(यह कहकर मोहन मचल रहे हैं ।) सूरदास जी कहते हैं कि बलराम घनश्याम की जोड़ी अनुपम है, ये दोनों भाई चिरजीवी हों ।

वापसी हो रही है परम्परा की ओर हिंदुत्व की ओर।

ऊर्जा प्रवाह को सक्षम बनाते हैं षोडश संस्कार कनछेदन उनमें से ही एक महत्वपूर्ण संस्कार है। इसे पाचन को दुरुस्त रखने वाला भूख खोलने वाला भी बतलाया गया है।

हिन्दू धर्म के पवित्र सोलह संस्कार इस प्रकार हैं :

हिन्दू धर्म भारत का सर्वप्रमुख धर्म है। इसमें पवित्र सोलह संस्कार संपन्न किए जाते हैं। हिंदू धर्म की प्राचीनता एवं विशालता के कारण ही उसे 'सनातन धर्म' भी कहा जाता है।

बौद्ध, जैन, ईसाई, इस्लाम आदि धर्मों के समान हिन्दू धर्म किसी भी व्यक्ति विशेष द्वारा स्थापित किया गया धर्म नहीं, बल्कि प्राचीन काल से चले आ रहे विभिन्न धर्मों एवं आस्थाओं का बड़ा समुच्चय है। महर्षि वेदव्यास के अनुसार मनुष्य के जन्म से लेकर मृत्यु तक पवित्र सोलह संस्कार संपन्न किए जाते हैं। जो निम्नानुसार है :-

1. गर्भाधान : गर्भाधान संस्कार महर्षि चरक ने कहा है कि मन का प्रसन्न और पुष्ट रहना गर्भधारण के लिए आश्यक है इसलिए स्त्री एवं पुरुष को हमेशा उत्तर भोजन करना चाहिए और सदा प्रसन्नचित्त रहना चाहिए। गर्भ की उत्पत्ति के समय स्त्री और पुरुष का मन उत्साह, प्रसन्नता और स्वस्थ्यता से भरा होना चाहिए। उत्तम संतान प्राप्त करने के लिए सबसे पहले गर्भाधान-संस्कार करना होता है। माता-पिता के रज एवं वीर्य के संयोग से संतानोत्पत्ति होती है। यह संयोग ही गर्भाधान कहलाता है। स्त्री और पुरुष के शारीरिक मिलन को गर्भाधान-संस्कार कहा जाता है। गर्भस्थापन के बाद अनेक प्रकार के प्राकृतिक दोषों के आक्रमण होते हैं, जिनसे बचने के लिए यह संस्कार किया जाता है। जिससे गर्भ सुरक्षित रहता है। विधिपूर्वक संस्कार से युक्त गर्भाधान से अच्छी और सुयोग्य संतान उत्पन्न होती है।

2. पुंसवन : : पुंसवन संस्कार तीन महीने के पश्चात इसलिए आयोजित किया जाता है क्योंकि गर्भ में तीन महीने के पश्चात गर्भस्थ शिशु का मस्तिष्क विकसित होने लगता है। इस समय पुंसवन संस्कार के द्वारा गर्भ में पल रहे शिशु के संस्कारों की नींव रखी जाती है। मान्यता के अनुसार शिशु गर्भ में सीखना शुरू कर देता है, इसका उदाहरण है अभिमन्यु जिसने माता द्रौपदी के गर्भ में ही चक्रव्यूह की शिक्षा प्राप्त कर ली थी।

3. सीमंतोन्नायन सीमंतोन्नायन संस्कार गर्भ के चौथे, छठवें और आठवें महीने में किया जाता है। इस समय गर्भ में पल रहा बच्चा सीखने के काबिल हो जाता है। उसमें अच्छे गुण, स्वभाव और कर्म का ज्ञान आए, इसके लिए मां उसी प्रकार आचार-विचार, रहन-सहन और व्यवहार करती है। इस दौरान शांत और प्रसन्नचित्त रहकर माता को अध्ययन करना चाहिए।>

4. जातक्रम : बालक का जन्म होते ही जातकर्म संस्कार को करने से शिशु के कई प्रकार के दोष दूर होते हैं। इसके अंतर्गत शिशु को शहद और घी चटाया जाता है साथ ही वैदिक मंत्रों का उच्चारण किया जाता है ताकि बच्चा स्वस्थ और दीर्घायु हो।>

5. नामकरण : जातकर्म के बाद नामकरण संस्कार किया जाता है। जैसे की इसके नाम से ‍ही विदित होता है कि इसमें बालक का नाम रखा जाता है। शिशु के जन्म के बाद 11वें दिन नामकरण संस्कार किया जाता है। ज्योतिष शास्त्र के अनुसार बच्चे का नाम तय किया जाता है। बहुत से लोगों अपने बच्चे का नाम कुछ भी रख देते हैं जो कि गलत है। उसकी मानसिकता और उसके भविष्य पर इसका असर पड़ता है। जैसे अच्छे कपड़े पहने से व्यक्तित्व में निखार आता है उसी तरह अच्छा और सारगर्भित नाम रखने से संपूर्ण जीवन पर उसका प्रभाव पड़ता है। ध्यान रखने की बात यह है कि बालक का नाम ऐसा रखें कि घर और बाहर उसे उसी नाम से पुकारा या जाना जाए।

6. निष्क्रमण : इसके बाद जन्म के चौधे माह में निष्क्रमण संस्कार किया जाता है। निष्क्रमण का अर्थ होता है बाहर निकालना। हमारा शरीर पृथ्वी, जल, अग्नि, वायु और आकाश आदि से बना है जिन्हें पंचभूत कहा जाता है। इसलिए पिता इन देवताओं से बच्चे के कल्याण की प्रार्थना करते हैं। साथ ही कामना करते हैं कि शिशु दीर्घायु रहे और स्वस्थ रहे।

7. अन्नप्राशन : अन्नप्राशन संस्कार संस्कार बच्चे के दांत निकलने के समय अर्थात 6-7 महीने की उम्र में किया जाता है। इस संस्कार के बाद बच्चे को अन्न खिलाने की शुरुआत हो जाती है। प्रारंभ में उत्तम प्रकार से बना अन्न जैसे खीर, खिचड़ी, भात आदि दिया जाता है।

8. चूड़ाकर्म : सिर के बाल जब प्रथम बार उतारे जाते हैं, तब वह चूड़ाकर्म या मुण्डन संस्कार कहलाता है। जब शिशु की आयु एक वर्ष हो जाती है तब या तीन वर्ष की आयु में या पांचवें या सातवें वर्ष की आयु में बच्चे के बाल उतारे जाते हैं। इस संस्कार से बच्चे का सिर मजबूत होता है तथा बुद्धि तेज होती है। साथ ही शिशु के बालों में चिपके कीटाणु नष्ट होते हैं जिससे शिशु को स्वास्थ्य लाभ प्राप्त होता है। मान्यता है गर्भ से बाहर आने के बाद बालक के सिर पर माता-पिता के दिए बाल ही रहते हैं। इन्हें काटने से शुद्धि होती है।

9. कर्णवेध : : कर्णवेध संस्कार का अर्थ होता है कान को छेदना। इसके पांच कारण हैं, एक- आभूषण पहनने के लिए। दूसरा- कान छेदने से ज्योतिषानुसार राहु और केतु के बुरे प्रभाव बंद हो जाते हैं। तीसरा इसे एक्यूपंक्चर होता जिससे मस्तिष्क तक जाने वाली नसों में रक्त का प्रवाह ठीक होने लगता है। चौथा इससे श्रवण शक्ति बढ़ती है और कई रोगों की रोकथाम हो जाती है। पांचवां इससे यौन इंद्रियां पुष्ट होती है।

10. यज्ञोपवीत : यज्ञोपवित को उपनय या जनेऊ संस्कार भी कहते हैं। प्रत्येक हिन्दू को यह संस्कार करना चाहिए। उप यानी पास और नयन यानी ले जाना। गुरु के पास ले जाने का अर्थ है उपनयन संस्कार। आज भी यह परंपरा है। जनेऊ यानि यज्ञोपवित में तीन सूत्र होते हैं। ये तीन देवता- ब्रह्मा, विष्णु, महेश के प्रतीक हैं। इस संस्कार से शिशु को बल, ऊर्जा और तेज प्राप्त होता है। साथ ही उसमें आध्यात्मिक भाव जागृत होता है।

11. वेदारंभ : इसके अंतर्गत व्यक्ति को वेदों का ज्ञान दिया जाता है।

12. केशांत : केशांत का अर्थ है बालों का अंत करना, उन्हें समाप्त करना। विद्या अध्ययन से पूर्व भी केशांत या कहें कि मुंडल किया जाता है। शिक्षा प्राप्ति के पहले शुद्धि जरूरी है, ताकि मस्तिष्क ठीक दिशा में काम करें। प्राचीनकाल में गुरुकुल से शिक्षा प्राप्ति के बाद भी केशांत संस्कार किया जाता था।

13. समावर्तन : समावर्तन संस्कार अर्थ है फिर से लौटना। आश्रम या गुरुकुल से शिक्षा प्राप्ति के बाद व्यक्ति को फिर से समाज में लाने के लिए यह संस्कार किया जाता था। इसका आशय है ब्रह्मचारी व्यक्ति को मनोवैज्ञानिक रूप से जीवन के संघर्षों के लिए तैयार किया जाना।

14. विवाह : उचित उम्र में विवाह करना जरूरी है। विवाह संस्कार सर्वाधिक महत्वपूर्ण संस्कार माना जाता है। इसके अंतर्गत वर और वधू दोनों साथ रहकर धर्म के पालन का संकल्प लेते हुए विवाह करते हैं। विवाह के द्वारा सृष्टि के विकास में योगदान ही नहीं दिया जाता बल्कि व्यक्ति के आध्यात्मिक और मानसिक विकास के लिए भी यह जरूरी है। इसी संस्कार से व्यक्ति पितृऋण से भी मुक्त होता है।

इस प्रकार हिन्दू धर्म के सोलह संस्कार किए जाते हैं। : अंत्येष्टि संस्कार इसका अर्थ है अंतिम संस्कार। शास्त्रों के अनुसार इंसान की मृत्यु यानि देह त्याग के बाद मृत शरीर अग्नि को समर्पित किया जाता है। आज भी शवयात्रा के आगे घर से अग्नि जलाकर ले जाई जाती है। इसी से चिता जलाई जाती है।

After withdrawing his statement questioning the efficacy of allopathy medicines, yoga guru Ramdev on Monday (May 24) posted an "open letter" directed to the Indian Medical Association (IMA), on his Twitter handle. He asked 25 questions to the IMA which included a question if allopathy offered permanent relief for ailments such as hypertension and diabetes.

IMA had objected to his video clip running down allopathy treatment for COVID-19 and sent him a legal notice.

He also listed several other ailments such as fatty liver, liver cirrhosis, colitis, constipation and bloating amnesia and asked the IMA and pharma companies if they have any treatment for them without side effects.

"Does the pharma industry have permanent treatment for thyroid, arthritis, colitis and asthma?" he asked.

Ramdev went on to ask, "Like you found a cure for TB and chickenpox, look for treatments for liver ailments. After All, allopathy is now 200 years old."

He also asked what non-surgical cure does the pharma industry have for heart blockage. "What treatment is there for cholesterol." "Does the pharma industry have treatment for migraine?" he asked.

Ramdev also went on to list modern-day ailments such as Parkinson's disease and wondered if allopathy had any painless cure to treat infertility as well as to reverse ageing and increase hemoglobin.

"Doctors should not fall ill at all if allopathy is all-powerful and 'sarvagun sampanna' (having all good qualities)," he remarked.

The yoga guru also asked if there is any medicine in allopathy to turn a violent and cruel person into a kind human and if pharma companies have any medicine to end the tussle between allopathy and Ayurveda.

On Sunday (May 23), Harsh Vardhan had asked Baba Ramdev to withdraw his remark, saying it disrespects 'corona warriors' and can break the morale of healthcare workers.

For the unversed, in a video circulated on social media, Ramdev was heard saying allopathy is "a stupid science" and medicines such as Remdesivir, Faviflu, and other drugs approved by the Drugs Controller General of India have failed to treat COVID-19 patients.

In a letter to Ramdev, Harsh Vardhan said, "The statement disrespects the corona warriors and hurts the sentiments of the country. Your statement on allopathy can break the morale of healthcare workers and weaken our fight against COVID-19. "

The development comes after the Indian Medical Association (IMA) Saturday condemned Ramdev's remarks and demanded action against him.

"The IMA demands and resolves if the minister (Harsh Vardhan) is not taking suo moto action, we will be forced to resort to democratic means of struggle to propagate the truth to the common man and knock the doors of the judiciary to get due to justice," IMA had said in its statement.

Now that a COVID-19 vaccine has been green-lighted for children 12 and older, many parents are wondering whether it's safe or even necessary to get their teens vaccinated. Experts in pediatrics, infectious disease, and childhood immunization insist the science is clear: the benefits far and away outweigh any risks.

But what about allergies? What about long-term effects? Why not wait and see?

There are plenty of opinions in the blogosphere and on social media about childhood vaccines in general and COVID-19 specifically. Unfortunately, the naysayers are often guided by faulty information or a misunderstanding of the science, expert say.

Days after the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) expanded emergency use of the Pfizer-BioNTech COVID-19 vaccine for kids ages 12 to 15, an advisory panel to the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) recommended it for the prevention of COVID-19 in this age group. The panel voted 14-0 with one recusal. It's a vigorous endorsement based on an extensive review of the benefits and harms.

The vaccine consists of two doses delivered three weeks apart, just like it is for adults. It's the same dosage, too. Kids in the 12 to 15 age group are "immunologically similar to adults," Christina Johns, MD, a pediatrician and senior medical advisor at PM Pediatrics in Annapolis, Maryland, tells Health. "So that's not a concern." (Sixteen- and 17-year-olds were previously included under Pfizer's emergency use authorization.)

Parents' misgivings about vaccinating their teenagers

Right now, parents are very much divided on whether their children should get COVID shots. A Kaiser Family Foundation (KFF) survey conducted in April found 30% of parents of kids 12 to 15 intended to get their child vaccinated right away. But 26% are taking a wait-and-see approach, and 19% indicated that they'll only do it if their child's school requires it. Another 19% are firmly opposed—they say they definitely won't get their kids vaccinated against COVID-19.

The survey revealed a similar pattern among parents of kids 5 to 11 and children under age 5. (No vaccine is currently available for kids 11 and younger, although clinical trials are underway.) Parents' attitudes about vaccinating their kids generally reflect their own experiences and intentions, KFF noted.

Separately, a recent 50-state survey from researchers at Northeastern, Harvard, Rutgers, and Northwestern Universities suggests moms are more hesitant about getting their kids vaccinated than dads. Twenty-seven percent of mothers indicated that they are extremely unlikely to vaccinate their kids, versus 11% of fathers, according to survey results published online. Attitudes also vary across income, education, and political affiliation.

So why are some parents not fully onboard or completely against the COVID-19 vaccine for their kids?

"Honestly, I'm hearing it all," says Dr. Johns. Some parents are comfortable with the science and they're curating information from trusted channels, she says, while others just aren't sure; they have some concerns; they're nervous. "And then there are a bunch of people who have really bought into some of the stuff that they've heard online," she says.

We asked researchers and clinicians to set the record straight on common misperceptions that may be giving parents pause. Here's what they told us.

"The vaccine is not necessary for kids because they don't get COVID"

While kids as a group are less severely affected than adults, Dr. Johns says there are children who do get serious cases. And a growing number are developing "long COVID," which can cause headache, fatigue, problems focusing, or other lingering issues, she adds. Data presented to the CDC's Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices (ACIP) show that adolescents as a group, ages 12 to 17, are much more likely to be hospitalized with COVID-19 than influenza. The analysis is based on data from flu outbreaks over the past decade.

Vaccinating children protects them from serious COVID-19 infections and complications, including MIS-C, a rare but dangerous illness in children exposed to COVID. "We are still continuing to admit children to a pediatric intensive care unit who are critically ill, who may wind up having long-term damage to their hearts from this post-infectious inflammatory condition," Dr. Johns says.

Plus, the more people who are vaccinated, the less opportunity there is for the virus to replicate, circulate, and mutate, she points out.

Getting vaccinated would also be a step toward giving kids some normalcy, Julie Boom, MD, professor of pediatrics at Baylor College of Medicine at director of the immunization project at Texas Children's Hospital in Houston, tells Health. "Parents really need to realize that getting your teen vaccinated is going to help not only your teen return to normal daily activities but help our communities and nation return to life as we knew it pre-COVID," she says.

Sure, it might seem like they were rushed. After all, the pandemic was in full throttle this time last year, and now close to half of the US population has had at least one dose of a COVID vaccine. Still, there's no evidence that manufacturers cut safety corners in devising or testing the new vaccines. Pfizer's COVID-19 vaccine, like the Moderna and Johnson & Johnson vaccines, made its way through clinical trials and FDA scrutiny just as any other vaccine would.

What did happen was Operation Warp Speed, a concerted effort launched by the federal government last year to reduce red tape, not scientific rigor. The process was accelerated, not rushed, Litjen (L.J.) Tan, PhD, chief strategy officer at the Immunization Action Coalition, a Saint Paul, Minnesota-based nonprofit that educates health care providers and the public on child, teen, and adult immunization, tells Health.

Tan, an expert in microbiology and immunology, adds that the vaccines didn't come out of thin air. They're the product of two decades of preclinical studies and researchers' past experience developing vaccines for two prior coronaviruses: SARS (severe acute respiratory syndrome) and MERS (Middle East respiratory syndrome).

"The long-term effects aren't known yet"

What we know about the vaccine's side effects comes from clinical trials begun in July 2020 as well as ongoing monitoring. Pfizer enrolled more than 46,000 volunteers in its phase 3 trial, including 2,260 young people ages 12 to 15.

Among teens, adverse reactions were generally what you'd expect: pain at the injection site, fatigue, and headache. Chills, muscle pain, fever, joint pain, and swelling or redness at the injection site were less common.

For an unknown side effect to emerge at this point "would be extremely unusual," Dr. Boom says. Tan adds that most vaccine side effects appear within the first 60 days of receiving a vaccine.

"It could affect kids' fertility"

Worries that a COVID vaccine might make teens infertile is a myth running rampant on social media. Scientists say there's no basis for making such a claim. It cannot affect current or future fertility, either in females or males.

The Pfizer vaccine is a so-called mRNA vaccine. It merely teaches our cells to make spike protein, the same protein found on the surface of SARS-Cov-2. Our immune systems respond by making protective antibodies. Ultimately, if you are exposed to the virus at some future time, your immune system will know how to fight it off.

But there's no mechanism to transport mRNA into the nucleus of a cell, where genes are made. "That's not biologically possible," Tan points out, so it simply cannot affect eggs or sperm or cells of the reproductive organs.

"It could put my child at risk of a serious allergic reaction"

"Actually, the anaphylaxis rates are incredibly low with the tens of millions of people who have been vaccinated," Dr. Johns observes. No cases of anaphylaxis—aka, a severe allergic reaction—were reported among 12- to 15-year-olds in the Pfizer clinical trials.

Reasons not to get vaccinated include a known history of a severe or immediate allergic reaction to any component of the vaccine or to a prior dose of the vaccine. The CDC advises health care providers to have personnel, supplies, and epinephrine at the ready to manage any such reactions.

It's why your kid should be observed for 15 minutes (or 30 minutes if there's any history of allergy) after getting the vaccine, the same way adults are observed after getting their shots.

"It's better to wait for full FDA approval"

Currently, all of the vaccines authorized for use against COVID-19 in the US have an EUA—emergency use authorization. But just because they haven't gone through the traditional FDA approval process doesn't mean they haven't been rigorously tested.

The EUA process simply made it possible for the FDA to clear the vaccines for use during the COVID crisis based on the best available evidence, weighing both the potential benefits and risks.

"You're splitting hairs when you use the words approval versus authorization," Tan argues, noting that the vaccines have undergone the same rigid research and development submission of clinical trials data that are necessary for licensure.

Noting that thousands of kids in the US have been hospitalized and more than 300 have died due to COVID-19, the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) is recommending COVID vaccination for all eligible children 12 and older. In a prepared statement, AAP President Lee Savio Beers, MD, emphasized the upside: "Vaccinating children will protect them and allow them to fully engage in all of the activities—school, sports, socializing with friends and family—that are so important to their health and development."

Maharashtra and Gujarat have reported a large number of "black fungus" cases.

New Delhi:

Diabetics suffering from COVID-19 who are being given steroids have a high chance of being affected by mucormycosis or "black fungus", All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) Director Randeep Guleria said on Saturday, as hospitals report a rise in the rare but potentially fatal infection.

"Mucormycosis spores are found in soil, air and even in food. But they are of low virulence and usually do not causes infection. There were very few cases of this infection before Covid. Now a large number of cases are being reported due to Covid," he said at a news briefing.

Flagging "a misuse of steroids" as a major cause behind the cases, Dr Guleria urged hospitals to follow protocols of infection control practices since secondary infections - fungal and bacterial - can be increasingly seen in COVID-19 cases, causing more deaths.

"Misuse of steroids is a major cause behind this infection. Chances of fungal infection increase in the patients who are diabetic, Covid positive and those who are taking steroids. To prevent it, we should stop the misuse of steroids," Dr Guleria said.

"As COVID-19 cases are increasing, it's of paramount importance that we follow protocols of infection control practices at hospitals. It is been seen that secondary infections - fungal and bacterial - are causing more mortality," the AIIMS director said.

At AIIMS, 23 patients are being treated for this fungal infection. Out of them, 20 are still COVID-19 positive and the rest are negative. Many states have reported more than 500 cases of mucormycosis, said Dr Guleria.

"Mucormycosis can affect the face, infecting nose, the orbit of the eye, or brain, which can cause even vision loss. It can also spread to the lungs," he said.

The state-run Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) has said that doctors treating COVID-19 patients, diabetics and those with compromised immune systems should watch for early symptoms including sinus pain or nasal blockage on one side of the face, one-sided headache, swelling or numbness, toothache and loosening of teeth to guard against black fungus infections.

The disease, which can lead to blackening or discolouration over the nose, blurred or double vision, chest pain, breathing difficulties and coughing blood, is strongly linked to diabetes. And diabetes can in turn be exacerbated by steroids such as dexamethasone, used to treat severe COVID-19.

The government has not published national data on mucormycosis but has said there is no major outbreak. Media reports have pointed to cases in Maharashtra and Gujarat. Experts believe the high concentration of diabetics in India can be one of the causes for the large number of cases.

One shot of the Pfizer or Moderna vaccine does give you some protection from the coronavirus, but the risk of getting COVID-19 is lowest if you get both shots. The CDC recently confirmed that two doses are better than one, with a study of almost 4,000 health-care personnel, first responders, and front-line workers between December 14 and March 13 finding that one dose of the Pfizer or Moderna vaccine conferred 80% protection, vs. 90% two weeks after the second dose.

Plus, the protection from one shot may not last as long as the protection from both shots, particularly against some of the newer virus variants, Ahmad Kamal, MD, MSc, vice chair of internal medicine at Santa Clara Valley Medical Center in San Jose, California, tells Health. "This is because a different type of immune response is stimulated by the second shot," he says.

And remember: Even after your second dose of the Pfizer or moderna vaccine, you're not fully protected from COVID-19 until two weeks after that, Purvi Parikh, MD, who specializes in infectious disease allergy and immunology at NYU Langone Health, tells Health.

What if I'm late to get my second shot?

Some people might simply forget to go for their second shot. In this case, simply get it as soon as you can, advises Dr. Parikh. "You'll get the same benefit from both shots, but you should get it ASAP so you don't get sick between doses," she says.

The recommended vaccine schedule is based on the clinical trials that led to the present emergency use authorization (EUA) approval. "It's not possible to determine whether delaying the second dose would impact the extent of the immune response, since other dosing schedules were not studied," infectious disease specialist Leonard Krilov, MD, from NYU Langone Hospital—Long Island, tells Health. "That said, an interval up to 90 or 120 days between doses would probably still be effective and even if it is longer, the second dose should be given."

It's absolutely fine to reschedule your second COVID-19 shot with your provider—they won't turn you away just because you missed your appointment.

What if my pharmacy has run out of shots?

It's best to get both shots of the Pfizer or Moderna vaccine at the same place because all your records will be available. But if your provider runs out of shots—and this is unlikely now that supply levels have improved, Dr. Kamal points out—there's nothing stopping you from going elsewhere. It's a good idea to call ahead to check that they have the right vaccine since your second shot should be of the same brand (Pfizer or Moderna) as your first shot.

And make sure you have your vaccine card with you as it has all the information about your first dose. If you've lost or misplaced your card, the provider can look you up in your state's database, but this may create further delay, Dr. Kamal says.

While the same vaccine brand (Pfizer or Moderna) should be consistent for each dose, there's no reason to think that if given in different pharmacies or clinics there would be a problem as long as storage and administration guidelines are followed, adds Dr. Krilov.

While it may be the preferred and most convenient way to get your second dose from the same vaccine provider as your first, it is not required that you do so. Many of the scheduling websites now include questions to identify which dose of which vaccine you are seeking as part of making your appointment. "I know a lot of people who have received their two doses of vaccine from two different vaccine providers," Richard Seidman, MD, MPH, Chief Medical Officer of L.A. Care Health Plan, the largest publicly operated health plan in the country, tells Health.

What if I only want one shot?

Listen, no one likes getting shots—and if you're very focused on only having to get stuck once, there's a simple solution: seek a provider who gives the single-shot Johnson & Johnson (aka Janssen) vaccine.

Though the Johnson & Johnson COVID-19 vaccine recently underwent a recommended pause due to six cases of a rare and severe type of blood clot seen in patients—mainly women—who were recently inoculated, the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and CDC lifted that pause on April 23, giving the OK to providers to resume doses.

Both the CDC and FDA maintain that the Johnson & Johnson vaccine is safe and effective in preventing COVID-19, and that the chance of developing the rare type of blood clot—which providers are referring to as thrombosis-thrombocytopenia syndrome (TTS)—is very low.

Overall though, according to Dr. Seidman, the Johnson & Johnson vaccine is the best option for anyone who only wants to get one shot of any COVID-19 vaccine—not only for them, but for their loved ones and community.

कोविड की महामारी अमरीका, यूरोप और दक्षिण अमरीका के देशों के बाद अब भारत में तबाही मचा रही है। इस पर काबू पाने के लिए भारत को भी अमरीका, यूरोप और चीन की तरह टीकाकरण करना होगा। मुश्किल यह है कि व्यापक पैमाने पर फैल जाने के कारण अब कोरोना के इस वायरस के बाहरी खोल में बदलाव आने लगे हैं जिनकी वजह से यह और तेज़ी से फैलने लगा है।

वायरस में आ रहे परिवर्तनों को देखते हुए टीका वैज्ञानिकों ने कहना शुरू कर दिया है कि लोगों को महामारी से बचाए रखने के लिए एक साल के भीतर एक टीका और लगाने की ज़रूरत पड़ सकती है। कुछ वैज्ञानिकों का तो यह भी मानना है कि इस महामारी से बचे रहने के लिए ज़ुकाम के वायरस की तरह ही शायद हर साल टीका लगवाना पड़े। टीका बेअसर भी हो सकता है और नया टीका बनाना पड़ सकता है।

इसलिए वैज्ञानिक अब धीरे-धीरे इस निष्कर्ष की तरफ़ बढ़ रहे हैं कि टीकों से भी बहुत समय तक बचाव नहीं हो सकेगा। कोरोना जैसे वायरसों से बचने के लिए हमें उन कारणों को दूर करना होगा जिनसे ये वायरस फैल रहे हैं। 1918 के स्पेनी फ़्लू से लेकर आज के कोरोना वायरस तक महामारी फैलाने वाले लगभग सभी वायरस जंगली या पालतू जानवरों से फैले हैं।

माना जाता है कि स्पेनी फ़्लू सूअरों से इंसानों को लगे वायरस से फैला था और इसकी शुरुआत अमरीका के केंसस राज्य के एक सैनिक शिविर से हुई थी। एड्स का वायरस HIV अफ़्रीका के बंदरों से फैलना शुरू हुआ था। 2002 का सार्स वायरस चीन के ग्वांगडोंग प्रांत की जंगली जानवरों की मंडी से फैला था। चीन से हांगकांग और दक्षिण पूर्वी एशिया में फैलने वाला बर्ड फ़्लू चीन के कलहंस और हांगकांग के मुर्गी फ़ॉर्मों से फैला था।

2009 में एशिया और मैक्सिको से फैलने वाला स्वाइन फ़्लू सूअर फ़ॉर्मों से फैला था और 2014 में पश्चिम अफ़्रीका के कई देशों में आतंक फैलाने वाला इबोला चमगादड़ों और बंदरों से फैला था। कोरोना वायरस के बारे में भी यही माना जाता है कि वह चीनी शहर वूहान की उस जानवर मंडी के चमगादड़ या पैंगोलिन जैसे जानवरों से फैला है जिन्हें ग्राहकों के सामने मार कर बेचा जाता है।

वैज्ञानिकों का मानना है कि जंगली जानवरों को व्यापार के लिए पिंजरों के भीतर निर्मम हालात में रखा जाता है। यातना से सताए और कमज़ोर पड़े इन जानवरों के शरीरों में वायरसों को तेज़ी से पनपने और आस-पास के इंसानों को लग जाने का ख़तरा बना रहता है।

इसी तरह जानवरों के कारख़ानों की शक्ल लेते जा रहे फॉर्मों में बत्तख़-बटेर और मुर्गे जैसे पक्षियों को कुछ ही इंच के तंग पिंजरों में पाला और मोटा किया जाता है। इसी तरह सूअरों, गायों और भैंसों को तंग खाँचों में रखकर पाला और उनका दोहन किया जाता है। आज के बेहद चर्चित विचारक प्रो युवाल नोहा हरारी ने अपनी प्रसिद्ध पुस्तक सेपियन्स में हमारी इस निर्ममता का ‘क्रांति के शिकार’ अध्याय में मार्मिक चित्रण किया है।

हज़ारों-लाखों की संख्या में जगह के लिए छटपटाते और अपने मल-मूत्र में पलते इन जानवरों के शरीरों में घातक हारमोन बनते हैं जो इनके दूध और मांस को खाने वालों के शरीरों में भी जाते हैं। लेकिन उससे भी ख़तरनाक बात यह है कि यातना की वजह से इन जानवरों के शरीर वायरसों के अखाड़े बन जाते हैं जहाँ से वायरस आसानी से इनके आस-पास काम करने वाले इंसानों को लग जाते हैं।

जानवरों से इंसानों को लगने वाले घातक वायरसों का यह चक्र तभी से चला आ रहा है जबसे हमने जानवरों को प्रोटीन के कारख़ाने की तरह पालना और दोहना शुरू किया है। वायरसों से बचाव के लिए टीके ज़रूर बन गए हैं लेकिन हमारी मुनाफ़े और प्रोटीन की बढ़ती भूख की वजह से वायरसों की रफ़्तार टीकों से तेज़ होती जा रही है। इसका इलाज इस चक्र को तोड़े बिना संभव नहीं है।

विज्ञान ने हमारे एक नया रास्ता खोल दिया है। यदि हम चाहें तो जानवरों को सताए बिना और उनके संपर्क में आए बिना भी प्रोटीन बना सकते हैं। कृत्रिम बुद्धि से ऐसी मशीनें बना ली गई हैं जो वनस्पति को ही सीधे दूध, अंडे और मांस में बदल सकती हैं। गूगल की फ़िल्म शृंखला The Age of AI (कृत्रिम बुद्धि का युग) में चिली की एक कंपनी Notco की विस्तार से चर्चा है। यह कंपनी वनस्पति से बना दूध, अंडे और मांस बेचती है जो स्वाद, गंध और बनावट में एकदम असली दूध, अंडे और मांस जैसा होता है।

वनस्पति से बने दूध और मांस को बनाने और बेचने वाली कंपनियाँ ब्रज़ील और अमरीका में भी हैं। ऐसे रेस्तराँ भी हैं जहाँ आप वनस्पति से बने डेयरी और मांस के पकवानों का ज़ायका ले सकते हैं। अभी ये चीज़ें मँहगी हैं लेकिन यदि इनकी माँग बढ़े तो दाम असली डेयरी और मांस से नीचे आने में देर नहीं लगेगी। जानवर भी तो वनस्पति खाकर ही दूध, अंडे और मांस बनाते हैं। यदि उनका काम सीधे कृत्रिम बुद्धि की मशीनें करने लगें तो जानवरों का भी भला होगा और हम उनसे लगने वाले वायरसों से बच जाएँगे।

वनस्पति से बनने वाले डेयरी और मांस से पर्यावरण का भी बचाव होगा। जानवरों के डेयरी और मांस से बने भोजन पर शाकाहारी भोजन की तुलना में आठ गुणा पानी और संसाधन ख़र्च होते हैं। तापमान को गर्म करने वाली ग्रीनहाउस गैसों का एक तिहाई जानवरों के शरीरों से निकलने वाली मिथेन गैसें हैं। सीधे वनस्पति से बनने वाले डेयरी और मांस हमारे पर्यावरण को बचाएँगे और हमें वायरसों से बचाएँगे।

सवाल हमारी मानसिकता का और डेयरी और मांस उद्योग से जुड़े किसानों और व्यापारों के स्वार्थ का है। किसानों की लॉबी दुनिया में कितनी मज़बूत है इसका अंदाज़ा आप भारत में चल रहे किसानों के आंदोलन से लगा सकते हैं। तंबाकू उद्योग ने धूम्रपान से होने वाले नुकसानों पर पर्दा डाले रखा और 50 साल तक धूम्रपान पर कोई पाबंदी नहीं लगने दी। 

इसी तरह तेल-उद्योग पर्यावरण को होने वाले असली नुकसान पर पर्दा डाले हुए है। दुनिया चाह कर भी पिछले 40 सालों से कुछ नहीं कर पा रही है। ऐसे में क्या पशुपालन और डेयरी उद्योग लोगों को वनस्पति से बनने वाले डेयरी और मांस की तरफ़ जाने देगा? यदि नहीं, तो फिर इस वायरस पर काबू करने से पहले अगले किसी और भी ख़तरनाक वायरस के लिए कमर कस लीजिए!

Amid the resurgence of COVID-19 in the country, scientists are studying what led to an unexpected surge, and particularly whether a variant of the novel coronavirus first detected in India is to blame. The variant, named B.1.617, has been reported in some 17 countries, raising global concern. Let's know about the Indian variant of coronavirus in detail.

What is the Indian Variant of coronavirus?

The B.1.617 variant contains two key mutations to the outer spike portion of the virus that attaches to human cells. The World Health Organization (WHO) said the predominant lineage of B.1.617 was first identified in India last December, although an earlier version was spotted in October 2020. The WHO has described it as a "variant of interest", suggesting it may have mutations that would make the virus more transmissible and cause more severe disease or evade vaccine immunity. Other strains with known risks, such as those first detected in the United Kingdom, Brazil and South Africa, have been categorised as "variants of concern," a higher threat level.

Are the new variants behind the surge in COVID-19 cases?

According to the WHO, it's hard to say whether the new variants are behind the surge in cases and more study is needed to prove this. However, the WHO said that laboratory-based studies of limited sample size suggest potential increased transmissibility. The picture is complicated because the highly transmissible B.117 variant first detected in the U.K. is behind spikes in some parts of India. In New Delhi, UK variant cases almost doubled during the second half of March, according to Sujeet Kumar Singh, director of the National Centre for Disease Control as quoted by news agency Reuters.

The Indian variant, though, is widely present in Maharashtra, the country's hardest-hit state, he added. A researcher from Washington University has suggested that the sheer magnitude of infections in India in a short period of time suggests an "escape variant" may be overpowering any prior immunity from natural infections in those populations. "That makes it most likely that it is B.1.617," he said.

Can vaccines used in India stop the Indian variant?

White House chief medical adviser Anthony Fauci said earlier this week that preliminary evidence from lab studies suggest Covaxin, a vaccine developed in India, appears capable of neutralizing the variant. Meanwhile, the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) also said that the Covaxin neutralises multiple variants of SARS-CoV-2 and effectively neutralises the double mutant strain as well which is being reported in many parts of the country. A study by the Centre for Cellular and Molecular Biology (CCMB) shows that the Covishield vaccine, manufactured by the Serum Institute of India (SII), offers protection from a double mutant variant of novel coronavirus.

Relatively unaffected during the first wave of Covid-19 last year, a high number of children and adolescents are contracting the novel coronavirus in the second wave. A large number of Covid-19 cases in ages more than 10 years and also between 1-8 years are being reported in the fresh surge -- though most are mildly symptomatic.

"If Covid-19 affected 1 per cent of children last year, it is about 1.2 per cent now. But it is a huge increase in terms of numbers in India," Dr Anjan Bhattacharya, consultant pediatrician, Apollo Hospital, told IndiaToday.in. Presently, there is no government data on Covid-19 among children.

While there is no vaccine for kids yet, several companies have started clinical trials among adolescents and young children. India is yet to come up with a treatment protocol for children.

Why is the second wave of Covid-19 affecting more children and adolescents?

Experts say the double mutant coronavirus variant alongside a cocktail of other strains have a higher tendency to infect children. Children getting infected from members of family who go outside and are lax in maintaining Covid-19 appropriate behaviour are also part of the spread seen during the second wave.

"The double mutant variant has immune escape phenomena. It masquerades as our own body system and then escapes our immunity protection. This is why more children are contracting Covid-19," said Dr Anjan Bhattacharya.

Dr Jaydeb Ray, Department of Pediatric Medicine, Institute of Child Health, Kolkata, said children were getting infected by Covid-19 in the first wave as well, but most cases were asymptomatic. "But now, we are seeing kids coming to hospitals coming with MISC (Multisystem Inflammatory Syndrome in Children). This time it is showing parallel to an active infection," he said.

However, Dr Sagnik Biswas, Senior Resident, AIIMS, said that given the rapid spread of the virus, the overall number of patients (both young and elderly) is expected to rise, but there doesn't seem to be any indication that the virus affects younger population more than the elderly. "The percentage of afflicted individuals under 30 years can be placed to around 32% as compared to 31% in the previous wave," Dr Biswas told IndiaToday.in.

What symptoms are children showing?

The second wave has shown that Covid-19 symptoms are not limited to just the respiratory system. The most common symptoms observed in children include high fever, chills, shortness of breath, cough, loss of smell, sore throat, myalgias, and mucocutaneous inflammatory signs. In the second wave, more Covid-19 positive children are showing gastrointestinal (GI) symptoms like loss of appetite, vomiting and diarrhea.

"Case reports are now emerging from several countries saying that Covid-19 may even lead to episodes of pancreatitis and decompensated liver disease, although these are based on clinical experience of few cases," said Dr Sagnik Biswas.

Dr Jaydeb Ray said warning signs such as elevation of inflammatory markers, fast breathing, lethargy and seizures should be monitored by parents for early detection of Covid-19 in children.

Why are Covid-19 positive children showing more gastrointestinal (GI) symptoms this time?

Although respiratory symptoms are more prominently highlighted, gastrointestinal manifestations are seen in up to 40-50 per cent cases, said Dr Sagnik Biswas, Department of Gastroenterology, AIIMS.

"Novel coronavirus uses ACE2 as a viral receptor for entering the GI tract. It is highly expressed in the glandular cells of gastric, duodenal, and rectal epithelia, supporting the entry of coronavirus into the host cells," he said.

Several studies have identified the presence of SARS-CoV-2 in stool samples. "A study comprising 10 pediatric patients evaluated their nasopharyngeal and rectal swabs. Eight children persistently tested positive on rectal swabs even after nasopharyngeal clearance of the virus. Furthermore, a cohort study demonstrated a significant enhancement of ACE2 expression in cholangiocytes as well as liver cells, indicating that the virus can lead to direct damage to intra hepatic bile ducts," Dr Sagnik Biswas said.

What should be done when a child tests Covid-19 positive? What precautions should be taken?

Experts say children showing mild symptoms should be home quarantined for 14 days. "If symptoms are mild and oxygen saturation is greater than 94 per cent, we have to give supportive care, adequate hydration, proper nutrition and paracetamol," said Dr Jaydeb Ray. If CRP (C-reactive protein) and ferritin (blood protein that contains iron) levels are elevated, then children must be admitted to a hospital, he said.

In the absence of any definitive therapy, social distancing, wearing masks, and hand washing are still the gold standard in prevention of disease among this age group, experts told IndiaToday.in.

What has the government said on Covid-19 affecting children?

Union Health Minister Harsh Vardhan told Parliament that children in the age group of 0-14 years were less affected by Covid-19. He said infection among children was mild and most of them remain asymptomatic.

"Hence no specific action plan has been formulated in the current response phase to minimize the adverse effects of Covid-19 on such children," Dr Harsh Vardhan said in a written reply.

Dr Vardhan further said that rarely a severe illness, in form of multi-system inflammatory syndrome, had been identified. This usually happens three to six weeks after the infection, he said. The Department of Pediatrics, AIIMS, is documenting the long-term effect of Covid-19 in children.

Are there any Covid-19 vaccines for children?

No, presently there is no Covid-19 vaccine that can be administered to those below 18 years of age. The Health Ministry has said clinical trials are underway to test the safety and efficacy of Covid-19 vaccines among children.

In February, Hyderabad-based Bharat Biotech had sought approval from the national drugs regulator for Phase 3 clinical trial of its Covid-19 vaccine -- Covaxin -- in children between the ages of 5 and 18 years. However, it was not granted permission since it did not produce efficacy data on adults.

Last week, Pfizer announced that trials of its vaccine in children aged 12 to 15 showed 100 per cent efficacy and a strong immune response, with no unusual side effects. It has now sought emergency approval from the US Food and Drug Administration to use its vaccine in this age group.

The University of Oxford had started testing the Covid-19 vaccine it developed with AstraZeneca in children and teenagers (this vaccine is available in India under the brand name Covishield). However, it has paused the trial following blood clotting issues in adults who received the jab.

Can newborns get Covid-19?

A very small number of cases have emerged where pregnant women infected with coronavirus have passed the disease on to their babies. Infants can also become infected shortly after being born. The US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has said that most newborns who test positive for Covid-19 have mild symptoms or none at all, and recover, but serious cases have occurred.

How have other countries dealt with child Covid-19 patients?

In the US, children represent about 13 per cent of all Covid-19 cases, according to the American Academy of Pediatrics and the Children's Hospital Association. The National Institutes of Health, which is the US's medical research agency, has formulated guidelines for treatment of children with Covid-19.

According to the NIH, most children with mild or moderate disease can be managed with supportive care alone. The NIH says Remdesivir can be considered for hospitalised children of all ages with Covid-19 who have an emergent or increasing need for supplemental oxygen. It also suggests that dexamethasone may be beneficial in pediatric patients with Covid-19 respiratory disease who are on mechanical ventilation.

The UK and Israel are planning to start inoculating children within the next six months, reports said. In other countries, specific strategies are being taken to treat severe cases as per the symptoms.

Ahmedabad, April 23 (IANS) Zydus Cadila on Friday announced it has received restricted Emergency Use Approval from the Drug Controller General of India (DCGI) for the use of antiviral 'Virafin' in treating moderate Covid-19 infection in adults.

The single dose subcutaneous regimen of the anti-viral drug reduced the need for supplemental oxygen, indicating that it was able to control respiratory distress and failure -- one of the major challenges in treating Covid-19, according to results of a multicentric trial conducted in 20-25 centres across India.

About 91.15 per cent of patients treated with the drug were RT-PCR negative by day seven, the company said in a statement.

The drug has also shown efficacy against other viral infections, it added. It will be available on the prescription of a medical specialist for use in hospital/institutional setup.

"The fact that we are able to offer a therapy which significantly reduces viral load when given early on can help in better disease management. It comes at a much-needed time for patients and we will continue to provide them access to critical therapies in this battle against Covid-19," Dr Sharvil Patel, Managing Director, Cadila Healthcare Ltd, said in a statement.

In its Phase 3 clinical trials, the therapy showed better clinical improvement in the patients suffering from Covid-19.

Earlier the Phase 2 clinical trials study established the early safety, efficacy and tolerability of Virafin and indicated that Pegylated Interferon alpha-2b had significant statistical clinical impact on the patient suffering from moderate Covid 19 disease by reducing their viral load helping in better disease management such as reduced duration of oxygen support.

Indian American scientist spots genes that fight Covid infection

A team of US scientists, led by an Indian-origin researcher, has identified a set of human genes that fight SARS-CoV-2 infection, the virus that causes Covid-19.

According to Sumit K. Chanda, professor and director of the Immunity and Pathogenesis Programme at Sanford Burnham Prebys Medical Discovery Institute, the scientists have gained new insights into how the virus exploits the human cells it invades.

"We are still searching for its Achille's Heel so that we can develop optimal antivirals," Chanda said in a paper published in the journal Molecular Cell.

Knowing which genes help control viral infection can greatly assist researchers' understanding of factors that affect disease severity and also suggest possible therapeutic options. The genes in question are related to interferons, the body's frontline virus fighters.

Soon after the start of the pandemic, clinicians found that a weak interferon response to SARS-CoV-2 infection resulted in some of the more severe cases of Covid-19.

This knowledge led Chanda and his collaborators to search for the human genes that are triggered by interferons, known as interferon-stimulated genes (ISGs), which act to limit SARS-CoV-2 infection.

"We found that 65 ISGs controlled SARS-CoV-2 infection, including some that inhibited the virus' ability to enter cells, some that suppressed manufacture of the RNA that is the virus's lifeblood, and a cluster of genes that inhibited assembly of the virus," Chanda explained.

"What was also of great interest was the fact that some of the ISGs exhibited control across unrelated viruses, such as seasonal flu, West Nile and HIV, which leads to AIDS".

The team also identified eight ISGs that inhibited both SARS-CoV-1 and CoV-2 replication in the subcellular compartment responsible for protein packaging, suggesting this vulnerable site could be exploited to clear viral infection.

"This is important information, but we still need to learn more about the biology of the virus and investigate if genetic variability within these ISGs correlates with Covid-19 severity," said Laura Martin-Sancho, a senior postdoctoral associate in the Chanda lab.

As a next step, the researchers will look at the biology of SARS-CoV-2 variants that continue to evolve and threaten vaccine efficacy.

हवा में यह वायरस विसर्जित हो जाता है ,यदि मरीज़ ने तथा अन्यों ने डबल मास्क लगाया हुआ है तो कुछ न कुछ बचाव सम्भव है बंद कमरे या हाल में खतरा ज्यादा है।

ऑक्सफोर्ड यूनिवर्सिटी की टीम ने इस रिसर्च की समीक्षा की और हवा में वायरस के फैलने की बात को प्रमाणित करने वाली बातों को विशेष तवज्जो दी ,हाइलाइट किया। इसमें कहा गया है कि बड़े ड्रॉप्लेट्स से ही कोरोना फैलता है ,इसका कोई प्रमाण नहीं है। बल्कि यह प्रमाणित किया जा सका है कि हवा के माध्यम से यह तेज़ी से फैलता है। ज़रूरी हो गया है कि WHO और अन्य संगठन इस बात को गंभीरता से लें और ऐसे कदम उठायें कि वायरस के प्रसार को कम किया जा सके।

इन जानकारों ने अपनी सूची में जिस घटना को टॉप पर रखा है उसमें 'स्केगिट चायर 'आउटब्रेक का ज़िक्र है। यहां पर एक संक्रमित व्यक्ति से ५३ लोग संक्रमित हो गए थे। स्टडी में कहा गया है कि इस मामले में ऐसा नहीं हुआ कि सभी किसी एक ही सरफेस पर बार -बार गए हों या फिर क्लोज़ कॉन्टेक्ट आये हों। फिर भी लोगों को कोरोना फ़ैल गया।

अध्ययन में यह भी बताया गया कि कोरोना का प्रसार इनडोर के मुकाबले आउटडोर में ज्यादा तेज़ी से देखा गया।

रिसर्च में कहा गया है कि बहुत सारे लोगों में लक्षण दिखलाई नहीं देते हैं और उनसे संक्रमण सबसे ज्यादा फैलता है। दुनिया भर में कोरोना के फैलने के अहं कारण में साइलेंट ट्रांसमिशन शामिल है। टीम ने रिसर्च में पाया कि बड़े ड्रॉप्लेट्स से संक्रमण फैलने की संभावना कम रहती है लेकिन हवा में यह तेज़ी से फैलता है।

Even in low-grade cases, patients need to constantly monitor and look out for symptoms to determine whether a case has become severe and hospitalization is needed.

In the same way, experiencing trouble in inhaling and exhaling should also make you keep a close eye. Connect to a doctor and take immediate action to prevent infection from worsening.

Low oxygen saturation is a concerning cause of any illness. When a person contracts COVID-19, there are chances that he/she may also develop COVID pneumonia which inflames the air sacs in the lungs and they may get filled with fluid or pus and even dip oxygen levels in the body. While hospitalized patients are constantly monitored for their vitals, in cases of a worsening infection, oxygen levels can often go down pretty quickly without the patient even realizing it. Hence, some states started to supply a pulse oximeter for patients under home quarantine to keep a check on their readings. If you run low on oxygen, you may experience difficulty breathing and that is a sign you need medical care.

COVID-19 also affects the brain and nervous system in mild ways. A clear change in how you feel, experiencing bouts of confusion, feeling sleepy or slugging or brush with delirium is a symptom of the infection worsening. Experts also say that another point of worry is if the patient finds it difficult to carry out simple tasks, or speak a sentence without slurring, immediate care is needed.

Any kind of chest pain should never be taken lightly. SARS-COV2 attacks the mucosal linings in the lungs and in many cases, it can result in a tugging pain or discomfort in and around the chest area. COVID+ patients also experience what experts term substernal chest pain, under their breastbone. If your pain gets unbearable or causes any sort of discomfort, it should be evaluated at the earliest.

इस डबल म्युटेंट इंडियन वेरिएंट को ब्रितानी माहिरों ने वेरिएंट आफ कंसर्न कहा है जिसकी आगे पड़ताल की ज़रूरत है वेक्सीन इस पर भी काम करेगी।इस भारतीय डबल म्युटेंट वेरिएंट को B.1.617 कहा जा रहा है।

Boris Johnson's visit to India will still go ahead later this month despite the country's soaring coronavirus cases and a new variant there, No 10 says.

Public Health England says 73 cases of the variant first identified in India have been found in England and four in Scotland.

Officials have called it a "variant under investigation" rather than "of concern".

The PM had already scaled down his trip due to India's rising number of cases.

The country has reported more than 150,000 Covid cases a day for the past three weeks.

Speaking about the prime minister's visit to India, a No 10 spokesman said the trip was already "slightly shorter than it will have been".

Mr Johnson was due to spend four days in the south Asian country but after talks with Narendra Modi's administration, the "bulk" of meetings will take place on one day - Monday, 26 April.

"As you would expect, safety is obviously important and is a priority for us on this trip, which is why we will make sure that all elements of the visit are Covid-secure," the spokesman said.

Officials said "all appropriate public health interventions will be undertaken, including enhanced contact tracing" after its detection, with PHE and international partners monitoring the situation "closely".

Viruses mutate all the time in a bid to survive. The challenge for scientists is to work out which mutations change how the coronavirus behaves.

Do they alter how the virus spreads, for example, do they cause people to become more seriously ill, and could they evade the protection of vaccines?

These are all questions experts will now try to answer about the Indian variant by carrying out experiments in the lab and looking at data on cases in the real world.

So far, we know that it has two mutations - the first, E484Q is similar to one found in the Brazilian, South African and Kent variants - and the second, L452R has been found in a variant in California.

That means it could be a concern based on what is known about those variants already.

But the "double mutation" on its own isn't unusual and has been found in other variants.

Covid vaccines are still very effective at reducing the risk of serious illness and manufacturers plan to update their vaccines in response to the most worrying new variants.

Paul Hunter, professor of medicine at the University of East Anglia, said the variant first identified in India featured two "escape mutations" which "are causing people to be concerned".

"If you think about where the main variants have arisen - South Africa, the UK, California, Brazil, and now India - all of these are countries that have really struggled to keep case numbers down," Prof Hunter said.

"So it's not surprising. India has got a huge pandemic, and therefore that's where you're going to be getting the variant."

Coronavirus cases have risen sharply in India in the past few weeks as the country battles a second wave.

There have been more than 13.9 million confirmed coronavirus cases in India and 172,000 people have died.

The country is not on the UK government's "red list" for travel. This refuses entry to people who have been in those countries in the previous 10 days and means a 10-day hotel quarantine for British or Irish nationals, or people with UK residency rights, returning.

Asked why India had not been put on the red list, Downing Street said the situation was "under constant review".

"We add and remove countries based on the latest scientific data and public health advice from a range of world-leading experts," a spokesman said.
