The Epicrom Farm Closes: I've been so busy with Skirmish that I haven't been farming and leveling my officers. Today, I tried the old Epicrom farm, which not only gives all four officers skill points but potentially millions of power, command, and research. Much to my sadness, the farm has closed. You no longer get incremental rewards for this away mission.

Skirmish Power Hour: The Skirmish Power Hour gives extra rewards for Skirmish. I was disappointed with it, though, because it only doubles the badges you win. That is not a huge deal. So, it's nice to have those extra badges to offset the cost of repairs but it isn't a motivator in itself to play during that time period.

The Gorn Assimilated Event: Event rewards are crazy good. This event starts the evening on 6/10/16 and I'm looking forward to getting more rare and powerful rewards. According to the Trexels FB page, the reward is a The Gorn MA12 Class Cruiser.

Skirmish Ship Guide: The Skirmish ship guide has been updated to level IV. According to one player, you need to win 850 battles (yikes!) to get to Battle Group V. That's... gonna take a while.

Skirmish Officer Guide: Although the table is updated, I need to update the other sections. I believe I still have the Kirk card as giving four extra cards instead of two.

Stacking and Selling Junk Cards

One of the most frustrating parts of Trexels Skirmish is the sheer number of cards in your deck. It takes (seemingly) forever to find the right ship as you continue to scroll two ships at a time through two-hundred ships. Cards are a little better because you can simply equip the ones you don't want anymore on ships you don't want any more.

But good news came from an administrator on Yes Gnome's Trexels forum:

"the ability to sort and sell ships and stack cards is already being implemented so you won’t have to scroll through all the ships and cards you have. This will be part of our next update which will be out by early May [2016]."

Awesome! Can't wait.

The Nebula

The USS Nebula just showed up on my deck and I thought it was a rare card I got by chance. However, a commenter on the ship guide page pointed out that you get the Nebula for simply getting to Battle Group II. This ship lasted me all the way through BGIII.

Trexels added several new ships to Battle Group III just today! These are much hardier that the previous BGIII ships and they can equip a single tier 3 card each.

DragonFable IDs and More

I realized that it's been nearly a year since I updated the DragonFable ID page. I'll work on that over the weekend. Hopefully breathing new life into it will lead more people here so I can add their IDs.

Also, holycrap, do I have a lot of out-dated AQWorlds content. I'll have to archive it since I don't have any intention on updating it. I just got burned out on AQW and don't plan on playing any more. I'm keeping my main account, though, in case I change my mind.

Games I'm Playing

SFTs Icon

Wow, it's been almost a year! Here's a quick rundown on what I'm playing:

Space Engineers: This game starts slow. It looked awesome watching other players go at it, but it's not so awesome when you're in a learning curve. I'm not quite sure yet if I've wasted the $25 on this game.

Minecraft FTB Lite: This mod was the only one that didn't slow my FPS to unplayable levels. It's a ton of fun, though. For the most part, I just wanted a little something beyond vanilla. Because this mod adds a ton of ores, it's sort of annoying.

Minecraft Vanilla: I love how the next update is shaping up! I'm playing the snapshots right now and it's a lot of fun. If they added scythes or sickles to this update I would probably never use a mod again!

Star Trek Trexels: This is an app that I've had for a while but stopped playing because it came to a grinding, miserable halt... because of the grinding. But I've discovered a couple things that really picked the pace up for me and made the game fun again. Mostly, it's the use of the Holodeck to over a million in resources. Also, upgrading to a Galaxy Class ship doubles rewards in the space garbage mini game, including those ever valuable dilithium crystals.

Bloons Tower Defense 5: Just when I think I'm going to give this game up forever, Ninja Kiwi updates it to make it interesting again. There's a new update I haven't tried yet. Something to do with Masteries Mode. Also, the Monkey Lab got updated. From what I understand, I need to get the bronze medal on all tracks to start the Masteries.

Here's what I'm doing right now: I'm getting all the apps I need to update this blog on the mobile. I travel a lot but never bothered to learn how to blog from my phone or iPad. Then we'll get into some game playing funness!

Live Streaming and Other Stuff

So deddi hooked me up with software to do some live streaming on Twitch. All I need now is a decent headset and I can start streaming again. I'm looking forward to it. The game I want to stream isn't being streamed by anyone else right now- the last time was 3 months ago.

Adsense on Mobile

I noticed that there are Google Adsense ads on my blog here when you view the site on a mobile device. I think I disabled it. To be clear, I didn't put it there. It was there by default.

Games I'm Playing

Right now I'm playing Minecraft on PC and mobile. To kill time I'm playing Tiny Tower, Star Trek Trexles, and Bloons Tower Defense 5 on mobile.

I'm also looking to get Stonehearth in a few weeks. It's a little pricey at $30 for an Alpha build but I've seen PSJ play it on YouTube (below) and it looks like a ton of fun.

As I've written before, it's hard to update a blog about gaming when you'd rather just be playing the games. I'm playing Minecraft as much as I've ever done. I'm playing a few apps on my iPad. Everything else is about work and family and losing weight (I gained 15 pounds over the last few months). I've also done some sprucing up on my non-gamer pages, which migrated to a new domain. I'm thinking about posting some of my favorites here, especially my articles on surrogate boyfriend syndrom, to which gamers have a weakness.

So, for my "To Do" list:

Updated the DragonFable character ID list.

Post some screenies and whatnot about my new Minecraft LP world.

Post some reivews about a couple apps I've tried out (Tiny Tower and Tiny Dice).

I've moved everything I wanted off my other site to this blog. Next I'll have to go through and update everything. A lot of the AQW pages are out-dated, especially the badges page. Also, the DF ID# page gets updated every two weeks. I'll get on that soon.

What I'm Playing

Of course, I'm still playing Minecraft every day. I'm greatly anticipating the release of (the hopefully stable and bug free) 1.8. I recently had to start a new LP world because a snapshot bug deleted my old one.

I'm also playing Minecraft PE. It's crazy how far the mobile version of Minecraft has come. Infinite worlds! Multi-player!

From time to time I like to play Bloons Tower Defense, both the browser and the mobile versions. I don't like the mobile version all that much. You can tell it was set up to rake in those micro-transactions.

About three times a week I'm playing AdventureQuest Worlds. I'm trying to get through the Bloodtusk story line but I'm not having any luck. Although I've completed most of the quests in Bloodtusk and Crossroads there isn't any progress in my Book of Lore. I'm not sure what I'm doing wrong. I'll have to look for a walk-through.

For pure brainless entertainment, I'm playing Tiny Tower on my iPad. It sort of reminds me of the highly addictive, and really old, Sim Tower. I think I might check it three or four times a day depending on how lazy I'm feeling.

deddi_mine and I haven't had a Twitch stream in a while. I'll have to correct that.

Minecraft Snapshots: Back Up Your Game

How I lost my main Minecraft world.

I always play my main LP world in Minecraft with the latest snapshot. To be honest, it's fun to test out the new features of the game as soon as possible. There are drawbacks to this, however. Below are some pics of a snapshot bug that wrecked my main base. Everything but andesite, diorite, granite, cobble, and wood planks were deleted from what was once a grand, giant tower.

That means all the stone blocks I placed, all the plants I planted, all the chests, windows, half-slabs, buttons, doors, and so on were gone.

I just went with it and built another main base. Although devastating, it gave me an excuse to build something new. That's just what happens in snapshots- unpredictable bugs. It's all part of the game. Especially if you don't back up your game... which I didn't... which eventually led to the entire world being deleted.

Damn.

Yeah, I really wish I backed up that world.

In any case, I started all over in a new LP world using world borders. I essentially started in a 120 block border and will slowly expand it over time. More about that later.

So my main message: back up your world. Just do it, even if you plan on working through the bugs that pop up on the Minecraft snaps.

Blogging vs. Gaming

I've said it before and I'll say it again: It's hard to run a games blog when you really just want to play the games.

In moving things around and condensing my content to this blog, I find myself wanting to stop so I can play games. I don't remember the logins for AQW where I have an awesome character. I wonder how HeroSmash is doing since I quit playing a while back because I didn't like the PvP focus of the game.

So I suppose I better hurry the hell up and finish the refresh of this blog so I can go and have some fun!

The Future of SFT's Gamer's Blog

I've a lot of work to do and now is the time to start.

First, I'm going to consolidate my many other blogs and online resources into two places. Most gamer-related content will be coming here, my oldest and longest running blog. This will include Minecraft's Infinite Mine and a few outlier webpages I have.

The second place will contain much of my (bad) fiction and is decidedly rated "R."

I'll also bring together all my aliases into only two. Over the years I've had many different screen names. I built different kinds of online resources and developed a different "brand" for each one. I don't need to do that anymore because having a web presence is much easier than it used to be.

ScifiTroll will be my primary handle along with PaxLamprey. Pax will be a more personal tag for myself, one that I'll use for Disqus, and SFT will be more geared towards gaming and fiction.

So, to start... Huh, there's a lot to do. I suppose the first thing to do is move my DragonFable ID Registry to this blog. Started in 2009, this registry has been updated and curated on Squidoo. Since that site is going bye-bye this this month, I think I'll just go ahead and move the list over here.

Also, maybe a new template for the blog. I don't like the look of this one.

What I'm Playing

- Server V: RIP -

Nothing new here about the games I'm playing right now. I'm still playing Minecraft a lot. As I posted in my MC blog, my server, Server V, has been shut down. There wasn't anything wrong with the server. It was awesome, actually. It's just that we'd been on it for so long that the challenges were gone and new features were missing.

I've got three SSP games going with Minecraft. The first is my second chapter of the Islands in the Sky world. The second is a snapshot world where I play with all the new features. And the last is a custom world I made called Adventures in Limbo.

Other than that, I've been playing Bloons Tower Defense 5. I had fun with the co-op mode for a few weeks. It's annoying now because every time I log into co-op the other player either drops out or starts to whine about wanting to play in free play mode.

I've been playing a little bit of DragonFable, mostly just to keep up with the game. My DF PvP list is slowing down a lot. I used to get about 300 visitors a week and now it's down to 50 or so. If it drops lower I'll just bring the list over to this blog.

Gaming Itinerary for Today

After updating the DragonFable Player ID Registry I'm going to be posting to my Minecraft blog. I haven't updated it in a while except for what Direwolf20's been up to.

And speaking of DW, what the heck is happening with all the Minecraft YouTubers? They're either not posting or playing some other game. Except for DW they seem to be posting a lot less often. Think they might be burning out?

In any case, it's time to head off into the 3x3 world and get some screenies.

Reformatting the DragonFable Character List

I'm going to reformat the DragonFable Player ID Registry because it's turning into a nightmare. When I export the list to a spreadsheet it looks like an awful mess and I can't guarantee the data after cutting, moving, and changing the numbers around to make sense.

The character listings might be a bit more arcane for non-DF players. For example, instead of writing, "Master DK," I'm gong to write, "MDK." Hardcore players will know what it's all about.
