I'm sorry, but there was no way I could resist this one and those of you who know me know why.

You see, there's a certain amount of, um, fandom in my house for a certain scifi niche. Yes, we are fan of the Wars. In fact, we have an entire room full of Star Wars toys, memorabilia, action figures, posters, bobbleheads, pez dispensers and the like. It's that serious.

So there was no way I was going to dash into the Village Market in Scituate Harbor for some half-and-half, spy this little droid full of ice tea and not photograph him. Hey, the first time I saw Star Wars it was in Scituate Harbor!

All the pieces have finally made it to town. This turbine and its blades are stationed in a parking lot while the tower is assembled up the street... if all goes according to plan, the new wind turbine will be completed this weekend.

A bit of explanation for newer readers -

Scituate is a beautiful town and I love trying to capture some fraction of that beauty in this daily photo project. However, I also make an effort to capture mundane details - because what strikes me in going through old newspapers, memoirs and postcards is how much those mundane details mean years down the line. I see a sepia-toned photograph of the intersection of Country Way and First Parish and compare the trees with the current day's traffic lights; I find a tattered postcard of Minot Beach and try to my daughter's favorite starfish hunting spots behind the smiling strangers in their old-fashioned swimming costumes.

Locals and" ex-pats" - what mundane details do you think matter? What simple sights should not be overlooked?

These large question marks adorn the telephone pole at Itchy's Corner, where I'm sure they are confusing anyone who's traveling between the bordering towns of Norwell and Cohasset without going down Clapp Road in Scituate. There's an explanatory sign at the Mr. Hope Improvement Society Building -

Why did the barn cross the road?

This sign hangs on a fence off Clapp Road near the Norwell border and on the perimeter of Wampatuck State Park.Once upon a time, these state park grounds were home to the Hingham Naval Ammunition Depot Annex... now it is recreational land and most of the traces of a military presence have been removed.

Don't even get me started on the graffiti, which has been a major issue in Scituate lately. This particular blue bit of nonsense has been there a while but who knows what it's supposed to signify... at least with the initials on the nearby tree, we have some idea of why they're there!

How can I carve your name in the trunk of a tree...

High tide, Minot Beach, February 6th - 48 degrees. Warm enough that when a wave skittered across my toes on the tide line, I barely noticed my wet socks.

It's the first day of the month, and in the worldwide City Daily Photo community that means it's Theme Day. The theme for February 2012 is "Animals."

But wait, you think, where are the animals? It's just an afternoon sky splashed with clouds and sunlight.

But my daughter and I spotted an alligator, a rabbit, a cat crouched down ready to pounce, a lumpy camel and a unicorn. We argued about the presence of a manatee, and I could not convince her that a carp was leaping over a stone.

We came across this abandoned boogie board at the bottom of a hill on the Widow's Walk golf course and wondered what stories it could tell. My guess is that it was pressed into service when it snowed last weekend, as a temporary sled... but whether it's a sled in want of a snowy hill or a boogie board in want of a curling wave, it's getting neither - poor forlorn thing.

Someone thoughtfully placed this errant glove on a fence post in the parking lot of Widows Walk golf course, where it waves confidently to all comers and goers. It seems fairly certain it will be reclaimed - if a glove can be seen to seem as such.
