This time Paste takes on the duty of compiling the "50 Best Albums of the Decade (2000-2009)". If you head over to their site, you can sample each of the albums listed.

I always enjoy reading these lists even though I often disagree with them. You'd think by now I should know what I'm getting myself into when I read a "Best of.." list on an indie music site. But hey, kudos to them. I couldn't even compile a list of my favorite albums even if I tried. Enough rambling, here's the list:

50 Björk - Vespertine (Elektra, 2001)
49 Libertines - Up The Bracket (Rough Trade, 2002)
48 Loretta Lynn - Van Lear Rose (Interscope, 2004)
47 Arctic Monkeys - Whatever People Say I Am, That's What I'm Not (Domino, 2006)
46 Once - Music From The Motion Picture (Columbia, 2007)
45 Radiohead - In Rainbows (self-released, 2007)
44 The Jayhawks - Rainy Day Music (Lost Highway, 2003)
43 Jens Lekman - Night Falls Over Kortedala (Secretly Canadian, 2007)
42 Jay-Z - The Blueprint (Roc-A-Fella, 2001)
41 LCD Soundsystem - Sound of Silver (Capitol, 2007)
40 TV on the Radio - Return To Cookie Mountain (Interscope, 2006)
39 Arcade Fire - Neon Bible (Merge, 2007)
38 Gentleman Jesse - Introducing Gentleman Jesse (Douchemaster, 2008)
37 Iron & Wine - Our Endless Numbered Days (Sub Pop, 2004)
36 Pedro The Lion - Control (Jade Tree, 2002)
35 Animal Collective - Merriweather Post Pavilion (Domino, 2009)
34 Various artists - O Brother Where Art Thou? (Mercury, 2001)
33 Coldplay - A Rush Of Blood To The Head (Capitol, 2002)
32 The Flaming Lips - Yoshimi Battles The Pink Robots (Warner Bros., 2002)
31 Death Cab For Cutie - Transatlanticism (Barsuk, 2003)
30 Damien Rice - O (Vector, 2003)
29 Bon Iver - For Emma, Forever Ago (Jagjaguwar, 2008)
28 Paul Westerberg - Folker (Vagrant, 2004)
27 Drive-By Truckers - Decoration Day (New West, 2003)
26 Over the Rhine - Ohio (2004)
25 Sigur Rós - Med ud i eyrum vid spilum endalaust (XL, 2008)
24 The Shins - Chutes Too Narrow (Sub Pop, 2003)
23 Ryan Adams - Heartbreaker (Bloodshot, 2000)
22 The Decemberists - The Crane Wife (Capitol, 2006)
21 Vampire Weekend - Vampire Weekend (XL, 2008)
20 The National - Boxer (Beggars Banquet, 2007)
19 Beck - Sea Change (Interscope, 2002)
18 Amy Winehouse - Back To Black (Universal Republic, 2007)
17 Kanye West - The College Dropout (Roc-A-Fella, 2004)
16 Rufus Wainwright - Want One (Dreamworks, 2003)
15 Patty Griffin - 1000 Kisses (ATO, 2002)
14 The Strokes - Is This It (RCA, 2001)
13 Josh Ritter - The Animal Years (V2, 2006)
12 Spoon - Kill the Moonlight (Merge, 2002)
11 The Hold Steady - Boys And Girls In America (Vagrant, 2006)
10 M.I.A. - Arular (Interscope, 2005)
09 The Avett Brothers - I And Love And You (Columbia/American, 2009)
08 OutKast - Stankonia (Arista/LaFace, 2000)
07 Gillian Welch - Time (The Revelator) (Acony, 2001)
06 The White Stripes - Elephant (V2, 2003)
05 Bright Eyes - I'm Wide Awake, It's Morning (Saddle Creek, 2005)
04 Radiohead - Kid A (Capitol, 2000)
03 Arcade Fire - Funeral (Merge, 2004)
02 Wilco - Yankee Hotel Foxtrot (Nonesuch, 2002)
01 Sufjan Stevens - Illinois (Asthmatic Kitty, 2005)

From what's included, I'm actually fairly content with the list and I'm glad to see Illinois take the top spot. I'm surprised that there's a lack of love for Fleet Foxes, the inclusion of a few soundtracks and that I and Love and You is in the top ten. I'm always a fan of the same token hip-hop albums that grace every single one of these "Best of.." lists. Apparently the indie world has only heard of Kanye, Jay-Z and OutKast, cool! Do you find any blaring omissions or any albums that are wasting space on the list? What would your top ten or even five consist of? The album drops 01/19/2010.

Track List:

1. Stand Too Close
8. Pulp Fiction
9. @!#?@!
10. Hysteria
11. Skin And Bones
12. The Weakends

Not too sure if I dig the art entirely, but maybe the songs will reflect back to it. I am intrigued with the song titles and I think they are set to make for some interesting songs. I'm really curious to see what sort of direction this album takes. With their last album, Even If It Kills Me, we got to hear a fairly mellow side of the band which included only a few spastic, high energy songs like on their first two albums. The first single off of My Dinosaur Life, "Disappear", is somewhat heavy and less synth driven than their previous work. MCS' singles are usually indicative of the rest of their albums, but for now I'll put aside any notions of what I think the album is going to sound like and wait until the album comes out in January.

new yeasayer single

check out "ambling alp" here. thanks, pitchfork! its got a definitely different feel to it than all hour cymbals did, but i'm definitely liking it.

TBS

Taking Back Sunday, Anberlin, fun., and Gavin Castleton play the IMU Main Lounge tonight!! I do this thing; read SPIN. Then sometimes I do this other thing; read SPIN, research random musicians in it; download their songs; and like them.
Plain Jane Automobile had a quote in the first few pages of SPIN about how much they love going on tour, and I like that. You see I had to go look them up because there was nothing else about them, just that quote with a tiny little picture. Well turns out they've won a few awards, they are working hard to make it, and I like that too. Their first EP released in 2006 was followed by a tour that left fans demanding more. Their latest album, out since August of 2008, shows a lot of potential. So give their indie rock music a listen.

Try 'em out and give "Close My Eyes" and "Blue Jeans" a listen on their Media Player

(sorry I don't know how to upload songs on a post yet)

New Album Releases for 10/20/09

Here's this week's album releases. fans want me, I still want to pursue my music," Brooks told reporters at the Grand Ole Opry House in Nashville.

i don't think the red carpet will be rolled out for him yet but just to refresh your young minds, before rascal flatts...there was garth brooks...maybe this new country music base that rascal and taylor have created he can 'roll' on again...
<br The tour is set to begin on November 27th in Montreal. Supporting Gaga on the tour will be none other than Cleveland MC, Kid Cudi (fingers crossed in hoping the two will perform "Make Her Say"). Bon Iver has earned his right to be on that pedestal of Scope love, the pedestal that says this man can do anything he wants and we will still love him. It is hard to forgive Justin Vernon for wanting to take a break, but we will inevitably forgive him, as long as he comes back to us. I think we all will remember those dark cold nights, watching the snow, pretending we lived out in a cabin. I think we will all remember the chills we got, because we were exhausted and he bared his soul for us and for even just a brief moment, we understood.

Tonight I want you to pull up your covers, put on those old clunky headphones and let this man take you somewhere magical, a place where you feel so different, but it always feels like home. Let the music take you to the cabin that Justin Vernon recorded For Emma, go outside on the front porch and there in the snow he will play for you, and you will get those same chills you got when you heard it for the first time.

Enjoy

Goodnight Bon Iver come home soon.
