You all will have to forgive an old man for getting caught up in finals and forgetting to keep up with the end of the year lists. Now I will continue on, our next list comes from a Mr. Kenny Layton, and I have to say I do not wish to facebook creep him and no one will answer my messages so I know very little about him. I can tell you that he works for a big agency in the music industry, so that means he has to know a little bit about music right?

My pick for the week is Dustin Kensrue's "This Is War". The video below begins with a brief introduction by Dustin, explaining the song and his decision to make a Christmas album (the song is featured on The Good Night Is Still Everywhere), followed by the music video. The song is beautifully written and the video really captures the song, provoking plenty of emotion.

I always find myself yearning to put together the perfect winter playlist. I search through new music, old music, friends music, any that I can get my hands on. This semester, I've been quite busy with school and I'm replaying my 2008 Winter Mix, not cool. There is snow, hot chocolate, new happenings, a new year ahead > I need new music to create the soundtrack to my Winter Break 2009 too. So I've obviously got tons of Bon Iver on that list, a little fleet foxes, ray LaMontague, City & Colour, Sia, Joshua Radin, Belle & Sebestian...yada yada yada.

Can anyone out there reccommend some new music for my December Snow playlist?

Bret, Jemaine and James (co-creator/director) said “we’ve noticed the less we say about the future of the show, the more people want to talk about it, so in an effort to reverse this trend we are today announcing that we won’t be returning for a 3rd season. We’re very proud of the two seasons we made and we like the way the show ended. We’d like to thank everyone who helped make the show and also everyone who watched it. While the characters Bret and Jemaine will no longer be around, the real Bret and Jemaine will continue to exist.

Justin Vernon did a live album with his former high school's jazz band. I don't know about you but I love me some Bon Iver in any way I can get him so I am going to have to grab this off of Itunes, did I mention that proceeds go the high school's jazz program.

For those of you out of the Twitter loop, Music Monday is a topic that occurs (you guessed it) every Monday in which users “tweet” a band or a track that they like or are currently listening to. This topic has become a routine for me and I thought it would be neat to post my weekly Music Monday tracks on the blog for you all to listen to. I hope you enjoy my picks and if not, just let me push my music on you, okay?

My pick for today is by Chicago’s own Lupe Fiasco. On Thanksgiving, Lupe released his latest mixtape Enemy of the State: A Love Story, a twenty-two minute blur of insanity. Lupe plans on destroying the rap game and if this mixtape is indicative of his next album Lasers, due next year, most rappers should reevaluate their decision to pick up the mic.

The standout track for me on this mixtape and my pick for this week is “The National Anthem”, a track in which Mr. Fiasco freestyles over Radiohead’s tune of the same name off of their album Kid A. To put things lightly Lupe “goes hard”, tearing through the track with a nimble fury of metaphors and his oh-so-common sentiments on the rap game, society and politics.
