Let’s talk influence.

Being influencial is an important responsibility. To create positive influence, you need a strong reputation. You need to be knowledgeable, so that people can rely on the information you provide. You need to be dependable, and make sure your actions follow your words. At Scorpio, we have all of this.

Last year, we sat down to discuss our vision and our core values, and decided it was time to make a few changes. We were happy with our strong core values, the “Scorpio Masonry Promise”, but what about our vision? With the masonry industry continually evolving, we wanted to align our vision with our business strategy.

At Scorpio, we pride ourselves on being a leader in the masonry industry, and wanted to include that leadership in our vision. We believe that influence is the key to building a successful organization, and our vision is that we are:

Striving to be the most influential masonry organization.

We’re adapting to the ever changing construction industry, and I feel confident in saying that in many cases, we’re leading the way. I find that I have the most fun at work when I know that Scorpio Masonry has an opportunity to influence our work environment. What could be better than helping shape the environment you work in?

These are the 3 key areas of influence:

Influence our customer base – We want our customers to be completely satisfied with our work and have a positive experience with masonry. Through our high quality workmanship, our safe worksites, and attention to detail on the project management side, we ensure our customer expectations are met.

Influence our employees –We want our employees to be the best in the industry, and attract and retain these individuals by creating a healthy and challenging work environment. This is done by providing a good structure where employees feel engaged with the understanding there is opportunity with hard work.

Influence industry – This is the hardest to measure as our industry is continually evolving. We are involved through educating and donating our time to industry initiatives such as Apprenticeship, Contractor Associations and the Masonry Chair at the University of Alberta. Collectively we can do so much more.

I’m excited to continue this blogging experience. I enjoy having the opportunity to talk about all the good things at Scorpio and our great industry.

As mentioned in our first post, we will have two maincontributors to the blog, one from our Edmonton office and one from ourSaskatoon office. Each will be offering us their unique perspective on anythingand everything masonry. Blogging is a new experience for our company, and we’reexcited to see where it takes us.

President of the Edmonton Operations, Chris Ambrozic, willbe posting his thoughts on the masonry industry and general business practices.Chris has spent his career working in the masonry industry. At the start of hiscareer he completed the Business Program at NAIT, and then his apprenticeship tobecome a bricklayer. He has worked in the field, estimated projects, and nowmanages the company. Chris has a passion for business and for Scorpio tocontinue to be a leader in the masonry industry.

In Saskatoon, Senior Estimator Jerrett Bergovich will beposting his insights on the masonry industry in Saskatchewan. Jerrett has beenworking with Scorpio for over 10 years, and his dedication and hard work havegreatly contributed to our success.

One of our projects was recently featured in the EdmontonJournal!

The Journal published an article on January 15^th,2012 discussing the relocation and restoration of the Garneau Lamp. We completed work on that project during the summer of2011.

As we move forward in 2012, we are excited to be launching acompletely redesigned website, a new Facebook page, and this brand new blog.

Our Company Vision is that we are striving to be the most influential masonry organization. Our newwebsite, Facebook page and blog are components to build on this vision.

Our website has several new features, including an onlinequote request form and a job board. People looking for quotes from both ourEdmonton and Saskatoon office can fill out the online form to request a quote.Our job board will feature any available employment positions, and applicationscan be submitted through the website.

The content of the website has expanded and been updated. Wenow feature information on Foreign Recruitment and the Apprenticeship Programsin Alberta and Saskatchewan. Our photo galleries are redesigned and profileeach project individually.

With this blog we hope to be more involved and accessible toall of our stakeholders. We want to add value and provide information for ourcustomers, employees and individuals involved in the masonry industry.

Our blog postings will alternate between writers from ourEdmonton and Saskatoon offices. Our topics will vary and we are open tosuggestions!
