Scott teamed up with Karen McDonnell on the final live week at Wild Atlantic Waves. Whilst some local sailors dropped in to perform a sea shanty, Karen educated Scott on the whereabouts of Portugal. Turns out, it’s either just to the left of Spain – or just to the right. She wasn’t entirely certain and neither, it must be said, were the sailors who reluctantly admitted that they rely completely on GPS these days. You can listen to the show here:

During the final live week at Wild Atlantic Waves, Ivan McGann teamed up once more with Scott to present the Morning Show. Whilst Ivan spent much of the time looking for a Polo Mint he’d dropped under the desk, Scott tried to channel the spirit of John Travolta with a Ouija board. It was later pointed out that Travolta is still very much alive and, moreover, will play the voice of “Gummy Bear” in an animated film release scheduled for late 2015: Gummy Bear The Movie 3D.

Earlier in the year the radioheads at Wild Atlantic Waves Radio researched different aspects of  W.B. Yeats and his work.

We brought these elements together in a radio show that was recorded live in March. We recorded in the Gort studio, and set up an ancillary studio beside it. So, you may hear a bit of an echo or the odd level adjustment from the voices on the other side of the studio door!

We discuss Yeats 150, the poetry, the biography, and the love stories. But there’s also talk of rashers and shell suits, ghosts and magic, paintings and cartoons!

Tomorrow, 13 June, is the the 150th anniversary of Yeats’s birth. There are celebrations taking place up and down Ireland, and in different parts of the world.

One event is happening not too far from the WAWR studio. Following the local efforts outlined in this radio programme, Thoor Ballylee is opening once again to the public.

Committee member Colm Farrell promises a great time to everyone who visits Yeats’s south Galway home tomorrow from 4 -6pm. The gang at Wild Atlantic Waves Radio sends best wishes to Colm and everyone at the Yeats Thoor Ballylee Society.

Those of you who may be interested in exploring the work of Yeats a bit more should consider a trip to Sligo for the International Yeats Summer School. You can take in a day or two, or the full two weeks of seminars, lectures, social events and a weekend poetry workshop led by the poet Eavan Boland.

There’s lots of Yeats stuff to do. But if you’re feeling lazy, why not just curl up at the weekend for a bit of quiet time with some of his poetry. There will be a poem that speaks just to you – we guarantee it!
