This is probably one of my favorite buildings to photograph in San Francisco.  I worked directly across the street from this building for a year and a half and never got tired of the view.  The leading lines, contours and contrasting colors always caught my eye.

This is a farming community and is chock full of wooden barns and retired farm equipment. I’m never out of things to photograph while we are there regardless if it’s winter or summer. -enjoy

I attended a funeral for my aunt this weekend, she will be missed.  It was great to see cousins I haven’t seen in a long time.

It’s that time of year when I see new faces at the gym and 365/52 week projects starting up. It’s great to see people attempting to make a change for hopefully the better to improve their lives. For me personally I use a new year as a time to reflect on ways to improve my photography. I have a few ideas kicking around and will try to implement them into my workflow in the next month or so. There will also be a few changes in the way I use social media and online tools. For me it’s all about improving my skills and a way to get inspired. If I’m not able to put a check mark next to those things I will be moving on. My time is limited and I need to make the most of it.

Nothing profound in this post but I use it as a way for me to document a few thoughts on the direction I’m trying to move in.

Five years ago I needed a place to store, share and offer a place for clients to view and purchase images. I knew a few photographers who were using and recommend SmugMug. It’s been a good five years but I’ve decided to leave their service due to the price hike that was announced a few months ago. I work in the software development industry and know what it takes to develop and release software. It’s costly and takes lots of time but you have to constantly improve your product in order to stay ahead of the competition and retain customers. I’ve felt a lack in that area for quite some time. What started as negative experience for me has now turned into a positive experience that I’m happy to say I’m excited for the move to Zenfolio.

When SmugMug made the announcement I immediately started “shopping around” for other hosting sites. It wasn’t until that time that I realized there were other companies out there that in my opinion were offering an interface superior to SmugMug’s site. I’ve been pretty frustrated lately with the lack of support for mobile apps and rock solid file uploaders, not to mention an easy interface to create and organize collections and galleries. The clincher for me was I was able to find something that offered a killer mobile app, an interface that is very intuitive and is easy to navigate and keep organized and works with a print lab that I love and trust(mpix.com).  All this for less than I was paying BEFORE SmugMug doubled their prices.

Thank you Zenfilio for offering a great service for the photography community. I’m in the process of customizing the site to match my blog as close as I can. If your on the fence about making the switch because you don’t want to have to go through the hastle of moving all your files, no need to worry. There are free apps out there that can transfer all your images and movies from SmugMug to Zenfolio.
