FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Green by Design Awards Celebrates Eco-Friendly Business Practices
Local companies acknowledged by the Scottsdale Convention & Visitors Bureau for their dedication to green practices

SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. (Nov. 3, 2009) - The Scottsdale Convention & Visitors Bureau revealed the winners of the Green by Design Awards at its Quarterly Update Meeting on Nov. 3 as part of its sustainability initiatives. Orange Tree Golf Resort, Hyatt Regency Scottsdale Resort and Spa at Gainey Ranch, Desert Botanical Garden and O'Neil Printing were recognized for exhibiting outstanding sustainability practices.

The Scottsdale bureau acknowledged participants in three categories: Green, Greener and Greenest. The Green category recognizes businesses that created green projects, programs or campaigns; while the Greener designation is awarded for improvements on pre-existing efforts. The Greenest category is for companies that practice both green initiatives and offer green products or services.

GREEN AWARD WINNER
Orange Tree Golf Resort won in the Green category for installing a solar water heating system, which dramatically reduces natural gas emissions, for use in their on-site laundry and housekeeping area as well as for 20 guest rooms. It is estimated that the resort will decrease their associated natural gas bill by 50 percent and eliminate approximately 100 tons of carbon emissions annually. In six months, the company hopes to expand this green practice to all guest rooms.

GREENER AWARD WINNER
The Greener award was given to the Hyatt Regency Scottsdale Resort and Spa at Gainey Ranch for its ongoing improvement of green practices. The resort's most recent sustainable projects include a 12,000-square-foot solar hot water system and the installation of a "cool roof" system. Thus far, the Hyatt has achieved proven results from the solar hot water system of up to a 41 percent reduction of natural gas within a given month. They are now serving as a model for other Hyatt properties.

GREENEST AWARD WINNERS
Two leading companies were recognized with the Greenest award - the Desert Botanical Garden and O'Neil Printing. The Desert Botanical Garden implemented a wide array of recycling and waste reduction programs not only to reduce their waste but also to help educate the public and act as a voice in the community. The Garden's composting of green waste is eliminating around 180 tons of waste from a landfill annually. In addition, they offer numerous programs and classes to the public, an increasing number of which relate to sustainability.

O'Neil Printing strives to maintain an eco-friendly environment within the workplace and helps clients decrease their carbon footprint by providing eco-sustainable products and coaching clients toward greener options. According to an O'Neil recycling partner, in the second quarter of 2009 alone, O'Neil's recycling program saved 2,157 trees, nearly 900 thousand gallons of water, almost 50 thousand gallons of fuel, over one-half million kilowatt hours of electricity and almost 400 cubic yards of landfill space.

"The Scottsdale bureau is proud to recognize these companies working to preserve our environment," said Vice President of Marketing Lauren Simons. "The Green by Design Award winners have shown their dedication to enriching our community and protecting our future."

A total of 14 companies submitted for the Green by Design Awards, including: Bio Waste Systems for Food Waste Separation and Collection, Dixon Golf, Enterprise Technology Services, Grayhawk Golf Club, i-o Data Centers, John's Refrigeration, Sanctuary on Camelback Mountain Resort and Spa, PlanetEarthPromotions.com, Thunderbird Artists and Symfonic Marketing.

Editor's Note: If you would like photos of the winners, please contact Communications Assistant Melissa Matthews at mmatthews@scottsdalecvb.com or 480-429-2254.

THREE NEW RESTAURANTS BRING WORLDY EATS TO DOWNTOWN
Valley restaurateur Joseph Gutierrez brings his extensive culinary background of more than 30 years to SouthBridge, planting three new restaurants in the no-chains-allowed district. Gutierrez was trained at La Gastronome in the Basque region of France and Spain and his experience includes working at resort restaurants such as the Fairmont Scottsdale and the Ritz-Carlton in Spain.
The first in his trio is Tutto, which opened in Digestif's former space in July 2009. Offering traditional Italian cuisine, Tutto is open for dinner daily and serves hand-made pastas and pizza. Dine on menu items ranging from fisherman seafood stew to parpadelle pasta with braised rabbit. Mixing food, fashion and entertainment is Acua, which opened August 2009 in the former digs of Canal. The new late-night spot is open until 2 a.m. daily and serves a fusion of French-Asian cuisine. Savor mouth-watering eats like chile- and coffee-crusted diver scallops with artichoke flan, while enjoying fashion shows on the restaurant's runway. Acua also boasts an indoor and outdoor bar, DJ booth, fire pit and VIP lounge.
The last in Gutierrez's trio is Spanish restaurant Tapas Papa Fritas, expected to open this month. The restaurant's cuisine, which includes Paella and house-made Sangria, won't be the only draw for diners yearning to experience a touch of Spain in Scottsdale. Servers will don the same attire worn during the running of the bulls and live Flamenco shows will take place every Wednesday thru Sunday. For media information, contact Laura McMurchie at lm@scottsdalecvb.com or (480) 429-2253.

Take an unforgettable journey through the vivid First Nations of Arizona and North America with the eighth season of Native Trails, presented by the Fort McDowell Yavapai Nation and produced by the Scottsdale Center for the Performing Arts. The Scottsdale Convention & Visitors Bureau invites travelers to the Scottsdale Civic Center Mall in downtown to experience the series of free Native American festivals taking place most Thursdays and Saturdays from Jan. 21 - April 10, 2010.

"Native Trails allows us to share our art of music and movement with Scottsdale visitors," said Derrick Suwaima Davis, artistic director for Native Trails and four-time world-champion hoop dancer. "Our performances showcase the common threads among cultures and we provide an opportunity for visitors to make an emotional connection with our performances and our tribal ancestry."

Participating tribes including the Salt River Pima-Maricopa, Hopi, Yavapai, Apache and Diné (Navajo) inspire attendees with their memorable musical performances and traditional dances. Native Trails celebrates Native American society and focuses on the individual cultures of these Southwest tribes. Performers present their history, pottery, textiles and more to introduce attendees to the diverse lifestyles of the tribes. Musical performances incorporate traditional instruments such as flutes, gourds and drums and dances range from Navajo dancing to the three artist hoop dance, a high energy performance with synchronized movements and cameo routines. This year, new cast members will join returning artists and the performers will present all-new choreography and songs as well as favorite dances that are set to new music. Royalty from different Arizona Nations also will participate on weekends.

In addition to the performances, the festival grounds also play host to Native artisans who showcase their fine artwork and skills. Each performance ends in an audience-participation round dance that draws in the crowd and completes the educational journey. Performances take place from noon to 1:30 p.m. most Thursdays and Saturdays Jan. 21 - April 10, 2010 at the Scottsdale Civic Center Mall.

Native Trails performances began in January 2003 as part of the City of Scottsdale's cultural tourism initiative, Culture Quest Scottsdale. The opportunity to experience Native American culture was the highest-rated arts and cultural desire revealed by the City's study of Scottsdale tourists, which is why the program was created. Last season (January - April 2009) had an average attendance of 278 with more than 5,000 people total in attendance.

SPA AVANIA PARTNERS WITH LOBO FITNESS FOR NEW METABOLIC BOOT CAMP
Spa Avania at the Hyatt Regency Scottsdale Resort and Spa at Gainey Ranch has rolled out its Metabolic Boot Camp program in partnership with Lobo Fitness. The program corresponds with the spa's time-of-day concept to produce three 55-minute classes that change for morning, midday and evening. The morning format fires up your metabolism to prepare for the day ahead and combines athletic drills, sports-simulated moves, plyometrics and isolation of major muscle groups. You will detoxify your body while building muscle and burning significant calories. Body shaping is the focus of the midday class which revolves around awareness, core activation, strength and power. Exercises also increase flexibility and provide balance with the incorporation of bozu and medicine balls as well as mat workouts. Finally, the evening class emphasizes stretching and deep breathing to help achieve muscle relaxation and tension release while restoring your mind, body and spirit. Cost is $18 per person for group workouts and rates are available for private, one-on-one training. For media information, contact Ann Lane at ann.lane@hyatt.com or (480) 483-5597.

Scottsdale's roots began to take shape at the famed intersection of Scottsdale and Camelback Roads more than a century ago when Chaplain Winfield Scott made a down payment of 50 cents per acre for a section of land in this area back in 1888. In this new era where classic luxury blends with new urban sizzle, the retail, dining and entertainment offerings meld with an impressive collection of unique shops, restaurants, galleries and nightclubs in the heart of this premier travel destination.
Downtown Scottsdale's $3.3 billion of development includes the Scottsdale Waterfront (http://www.scottsdalewaterfront.com/) and SouthBridge (http://www.southbridgescottsdale.com/). The $250 million Scottsdale Waterfront is a 1.1 million-square-foot residential and retail development home to culinary delights like P.F. Chang's, Sauce, Wildfish Seafood Grille and Olive & Ivy Restaurant & Marketplace. Boutiques like High Point and Moody Blues also call the Waterfront home along with national retailers such as Borders, Urban Outfitters and Sur la Table. Scottsdale Waterfront features public event space, an outdoor amphitheater, public art and recreation paths along the canal as well as a pedestrian-only bridge across the Arizona Canal that links the Waterfront and Scottsdale Fashion Square mall to Scottsdale's Fifth Avenue shopping district and SouthBridge.
The $41 million SouthBridge district is an urban development along the south bank of Scottsdale's ancient canal system and the city's newest urban district. The borough is the long-time vision of the city and developer Fred Unger that brings together elite, high-fashion boutiques, independent shops, celebrated cuisine, free outdoor concerts and art. Notably absent are any national chain stores, upholding the independent spirit of the district. Three out of the five planned restaurants for SouthBridge are currently open and include Estate House, Metro Brasserie and Tutto. Also expected to join the SouthBridge family this fall are Tapas Papas Fritas and Acua. Around the same time, the district will welcome The Chef's Loft, a state-of-the-art chef's kitchen that will play host to a culinary school with classes headed by national chefs, a private event space, and studio that will be used for lifestyle television shows, documentaries, commercials and more. Shoppers can delight in SouthBridge's one-of-a-kind boutiques like Amy, Inc., Garage, Nestldown and Joy Li as well as Scottsdale art galleries, g2 Gallery and Cline Fine Art.

LARGEST MALL IN SOUTHWEST EXPANDS, WELCOMES STORES MAKING ARIZONA DEBUT
Scottsdale Fashion Square (http://www.fashionsquare.com/), the largest shopping mall in the Southwest, continues its $130 million renovation with the addition of 25 new shops. Stores already open include Ilori, Armani Exchange, Bottega Veneta and Bulgari with drool-worthy retailers like Jimmy Choo, Marciano and Puma already among the favorites. The shopping hub will soon welcome the county's first Microsoft store, Oakley and Buckle - not to mention the grandest of all department stores, Barney's New York - which is set to open its heavenly doors on Oct. 15. The expansion will add nearly 100,000 square feet of new shop space to the mall, bringing its square footage to two million, and also will include the opening of Modern Steak (http://www.foxrc.com/) from Fox Restaurant Concepts. The steakhouse will debut Oct. 19 and feature a menu with various price points and smaller portions as well as a trendy, modern design. Besides a rockin' menu, diners also will enjoy an onsite concierge to assist with all Scottsdale travel needs, a public art piece designed by a local artist that emulates a tree-like canopy with fire elements, and Modern Burger, a "walk-up" menu and window for on-the-go shoppers who want a taste of the restaurant without the sit-down experience.

BEST WESTERN DEBUTS AS NEWEST HOTEL IN SCOTTSDALE
In April 2009, the Best Western Sundial (www.bestwestern.com/sundialresort) made its debut and features 54 contemporary guestrooms, including 12 suites that are Zodiac-themed rooms with astrological artwork. All rooms are decked out with flat-screen TVs, glass shower doors and high-speed Internet access plus many of the guest rooms have a whirlpool tub and bar with balcony views of the signature Camelback Mountain and McDowell Mountains. Guests also enjoy complimentary breakfast each day. The Best Western Sundial Resort is owned by Allan Henderson, a hotelier who owns two Best Western properties in Alberta, Canada, and whose grandparents owned and operated The Hacienda Inn, which was a well-known 22-room bungalow style resort at one time and located on the exact site as the new Best Western Sundial Resort.

ARIZONA'S FIRST W HOTEL MAKES MARK WITH UNIQUE WATER FEATURES, MODERN LOOK
The W Scottsdale Hotel and Residences (www.whotels.com/scottsdale) opened in September 2008 and features 224 guestrooms, Bliss spa, Sushi Roku restaurant, and 18 luxury W residences in addition to a second-floor pool deck with an infinity-edge swimming pool surrounded by a sand beach, and two open-air bars appropriately named Shade and sunset.beach. Setting the W Scottsdale apart from other properties are the hotel's creative architectural elements like the Indonesian petrified wood exhibit that greets guests in the lobby and dates back to pre-historic times. Also anchoring the lobby, or Living Room, is the natural stone art wall created with Arizona minerals by local artist Otto Rigan that serves as the backdrop to a floating staircase made of Brazilian Kumaru wood. Guests arriving in the valet area can sneak a peak at the party above as the pool features four large round glass windows on the bottom of its design.

$30 MILLION MUSEUM TO PROMOTE WESTERN CULTURE, HISTORY
Plans for a 45,000-square-foot Scottsdale Museum of the West (http://www.scottsdalemuseumofthewest.org/) will include a partially solar-powered glass and steel building wrapped on all sides by an undulating sun screen that will open when natural light is needed. The museum's theme will focus on the myths and legends of the Southwest, connecting guests to the art while inviting exploration and discovery. In addition to changing exhibition galleries, the museum also will be home to a theater, recreations of famous artists' workspace, a Story Circle where visitors can hear tales from the Old West, and an education art studio. Keeping global environmental awareness in mind, the Museum of the West will follow LEED guidelines to institute programs that save energy and reduce water consumption and waste. Developers are working to have the museum open by early 2013.

NEW RESTAURANTS MAKE THEIR WAY ONTO DOWNTOWN'S MENU

The Mission (http://www.themissionaz.com/) is the brainchild of Chef Matt Carter from Zinc Bistro and focuses on Latin flavor with dishes like swordfish Veracruz and chorizo porchetta. The interior look of the restaurant, which is housed in a historic Catholic mission, was created by local designer Charlie Morrow and includes palm wood floors, a marble bar, faux rainwater walls, ornate chandeliers and a wall of salt blocks. Opened October 2008.

Samurai Cowboy (http://www.geishaagogo.com/) will mix the bustling cosmopolitan lifestyle of Tokyo with the conventional cooking of rural Japan - all in downtown Scottsdale! Following Japanese tradition, the restaurant will include a robata grill for cooking seafood and meat in addition to a custom sushi bar where guests can watch chefs create the meals. Scheduled to open in fall 2009.

Petite Maison will be headed by local favorite Chef James Porter, formerly of Tapino Kitchen & Wine Bar. The French-themed country bistro will bring comfort to travelers with quality food at a lower price point. A compact menu - matching the size of the quaint restaurant that will only seat about 80 people - focuses on classic Gallic for lunch, dinner and brunch with highlights like beignets and chicory coffee. Scheduled to open Aug. 23.

Culinary Dropout (http://www.foxrc.com/) from Fox Restaurant Concepts is opening at the Scottsdale Waterfront in January 2010 and will focus on cocktail culture with hand-crafted chef-driven drinks and an upscale bar food menu. Culinary Dropout also will feature live musical performances.

SCOTTSDALE'S DEDICATION TO THE ARTS EXPANDS WITH NEW PUBLIC PIECES
Since its inception in 1985, the Scottsdale Public Art Program (http://www.scottsdalepublicart.org/) has created a diverse collection of 70 permanent and 30 temporary artworks that encompass a wide range of artistic expressions from traditional bronzes such as George-Ann Tognoni's trio of galloping horses to contemporary and experiential works like James Turrell's skyspace Knight Rise at the Scottsdale Museum of Contemporary Art (http://www.smoca.org/). The city also currently has 50 additional works in various stages of design and construction. Scottsdale Public Art envisions its 184-square mile city as an outdoor gallery, where art is an everyday encounter for residents and tourists alike. In one trip to the Scottsdale Civic Center Mall in downtown Scottsdale, visitors find an impressive collection of museum quality works by Louise Nevelson, Robert Indiana, James Turrell and Jamie Carpenter. At the nearby Scottsdale Waterfront, works range from Donald Lipski's The Doors with an interactive audio component by Jim Green to the city's newest western monument, Herb Mignery's Passing the Legacy, which is symbolic of the melding of Scottsdale's historic and modern western appeal. The spirit of Scottsdale's evolving downtown and canal banks is captured by the statue as a vintage 1860s horse rider passes a mail bag to a modern-day rider.

SOUTHBRIDGE'S RESTAURANTS REDEFINE DOWNTOWN DINING SCENE
The $41 million SouthBridge development is home to three independent restaurants, all unique in design and concept. Developer Fred Unger, whose culinary credentials include T. Cook's at the Royal Palms Resort and Spa and Lon's at The Hermosa Inn, offers two new restaurant concepts - Estate House and Metro Brasserie.

Estate House (http://www.estatehouseaz.com/) is multi-level, mansion-styled dinner house detailed in a combination of rich old-world and vibrant contemporary comforts with American Contemporary cooking from Chef Gio Osso. Fresh seafood is flown in daily and local growers provide the restaurant's yield of fruits and vegetables. An array of desserts and chocolates, a select collection of artisan cheeses, after-dinner drinks, and imported coffees also are featured. Opened February 2008.

Metro Brasserie (http://www.metrosouthbridge.com/) is a friendly, upscale bistro-style restaurant under the direction of Executive Chef Matthew Taylor who creates a menu drawing from his New Orleans cooking experience and combining French Country techniques with flavors of the deep South. Specialties include braised ham hocks with pickled beets, beignets with Nutella, and Duck Confit. Opened October 2008.

SouthBridge's other restaurant is led by longtime Valley restaurateur Joseph Gutierrez whose credentials include the former Marquesa restaurant at Fairmont Scottsdale.

Tutto opened in July 2009 in the place of Digestif, a restaurant headed by restaurateur Peter Kasperski that has since moved across the street. Tutto serves authentic Italian fare on a menu that boasts homemade pastas, cheeses and artisanal breads. Duck, goose and rabbit also are prominent features at the restaurant.

Gutierrez also has plans to open two more restaurants in the SouthBridge district in fall 2009 called Acua and Tapas Papas Fritas. Slated for the former location of CANAL, Acua will serve Asian-influenced French cuisine while Tapas Papas Fritas will offer Spanish fare with touches from Gutierrez's European heritage.

DIGESTIF GETS A NEW HOME AND MENU, STILL DISHSES OUT OLD FAVORITES
Digestif (http://www.digestifscottsdale.com/), one of restaurateur Peter Kasperski's renowned downtown restaurants, has found a new home in the location that used to house Chef Nobuo Fukuda's Sea Saw. The new, intimate location for the gastropub seats 35 and brings you closer than ever to the masterful creations of Chef Payton Curry who whips up farm-to-table delights like house-cured prosciutto and crispy pork shoulder with arugula. Known just as much for his mouthwatering meals as for his mop of wild, curly hair and lovable personality, Curry is the mane (pun intended) attraction in the new digs, which feature a front-and-center kitchen with plenty of up-close seating at the interactive counter and surrounding tables.

CONVENIENT TRANSPORTATION ALTERNATIVES MAKE IT EASY TO GET AROUND
With its diverse culinary, art, and shopping scenes, downtown Scottsdale serves as the perfect getaway for visitors. Making the city even more ideal is the convenient transportation options available for guests exploring the sights. Visitors can get around by foot or by using one of Scottsdale's distinct transportation services.
Roaming the streets with ease is even more effortless on a rented Segway from ContempoRide (www.contemporidesegway.com/). The company offers hourly, half and full-day, weekend, weekly and even monthly rentals. If guided exploration is more your thing, ContempoRide also conducts tours of Old Town Scottsdale, highlighting the Arts district, Scottsdale Civic Center Plaza and Scottsdale Waterfront in the downtown area. Half day rentals are $100 and a 90-minute tour of the city is $75.
Environmentally conscious visitors can enjoy Scottsdale's nightlife safely by hitching a ride with Ecocab (http://www.ecocabusa.com/). The company's human-powered pedal cabs can be seen in the city's bustling nightclub districts in the evenings or directing tours through out Old Town during the day. Ecocab drop-off rides are tip-based, but the cost for those taking a tour of Scottsdale is $75 per pedal cab.
Loved by locals and visitors alike, the Scottsdale Trolley (www.scottsdaleaz.gov/trolley) travels to every notable spot in the downtown area. From specialty shops to restaurants and art galleries, the trolley is a convenient - and free - way to get around the city. It runs every 15 minutes, Monday through Sunday, except for holidays.

Scottsdale's Room Rate Challenge for Meetings
Unprecedented program aggressively promotes Scottsdale's meetings value
http://www.scottsdaleratechallenge.com/

SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. (Aug. 24, 2009) - The U.S. meetings industry is suffering from thousands of cancelled meetings and events across the country due to the economy and negative national media coverage. Scottsdale's meetings industry, in particular, has been hit hard in recent months, with estimated losses topping $100 million from cancelled or scaled back meetings.

To combat these issues and more aggressively promote Scottsdale, the Scottsdale Convention & Visitors Bureau is launching Scottsdale's Room Rate Challenge for meeting planners to better position the destination's affordability.

"Scottsdale offers a diverse portfolio of acclaimed products and services and is now priced comparably to the cost of staging meetings in cities that can't come close to offering what we have," said Brent DeRaad, the bureau's executive vice president. "This program will help us overcome the perception that Scottsdale is not affordable for group meetings."

Scottsdale's Room Rate Challenge
The Room Rate Challenge program allows meeting planners to submit a proposal to the Scottsdale Convention & Visitors Bureau from any hotel or resort from across the contiguous United States (except Maricopa County), Hawaii, Canada, or Caribbean, and the Scottsdale bureau will work with comparable Scottsdale properties to meet or beat the room rate, dates, meeting facility space and room night requirements.

Meetings valid for this program must be booked and actualized in Scottsdale through March 31, 2010. All total, 40 properties - from limited service hotels to luxury resorts in the Scottsdale area - are participating. For complete details, visit http://www.scottsdaleratechallenge.com/.

"This program will show meeting planners across the country that we can match any meetings budget, and at the same time provide the level of quality service and product that define Scottsdale," said Terri Benich, director of sales and marketing at Hyatt Regency Scottsdale Resort and Spa at Gainey Ranch.

In addition to affordable meetings packages and value-added options, groups meeting in Scottsdale can enjoy top-of-the-line facilities, convenient and affordable air access, sunny weather, the unmatched beauty of the Sonoran Desert landscape and an environment where attendees can get down to business.

About Scottsdale Convention & Visitors Bureau
The Scottsdale Convention & Visitors Bureau is responsible for marketing Scottsdale as a premier travel destination to national and international target audiences, including meeting planners, travel agents, tour operators, incentive planners and individual tourists.

Nominations being accepted for Scottsdale Green by Design Awards
www.ScottsdaleGreenByDesign.com

SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. (July 1, 2009) - The Scottsdale Convention & Visitors Bureau is encouraging Arizona companies to show off their green efforts and enter the 2nd Annual Scottsdale Green by Design Awards program to be recognized for their sustainability initiatives.

As part of the Scottsdale bureau's green programming, the Green by Design Awards recognize companies that exhibit outstanding green practices. Companies can nominate their business or another local company for the efforts they have made to become more environmentally friendly.

Awards will be presented in three categories:

Green: For the creation of green projects, programs or campaigns

Greener: For the improvement of pre-existing green projects, programs or campaigns

Greenest: For businesses that have both green business practices and offer green products or services

In all categories, entrants must demonstrate their effort to help preserve the environment or reduce their carbon footprint. This may include, but is not limited to: waste reduction, energy efficiency, water conservation, green meetings, or a green product or service for consumers.

"The Scottsdale Convention & Visitors Bureau is challenging local companies to do their part and utilize sustainable practices," said Rachel Sacco, president and CEO at the Scottsdale Convention & Visitors Bureau. "We want to recognize those who are dedicated to maintaining the vibrancy of our destination, which is critical to our future."

Visit http://www.scottsdalegreenbydesign.com/ to download a nomination form (on the Green Community Resources page). Applications are due Sept. 1 and awards will be presented during a Scottsdale bureau event in the fall.

Winners of the Scottsdale Green by Design Awards will receive special public recognition by the Scottsdale bureau commemorating their efforts, as well as recognition on the Scottsdale Green by Design Web site, in a Scottsdale bureau quarterly e-mail blast to 100,000 leisure visitors, and in the bureau's monthly "Spotlight on Scottsdale" tourism section in The Arizona Republic.

Last year's awards were given to Hotel Valley Ho in the Green category, Fairmont Scottsdale in the Greener category and Edwards Design Group in the Greenest category.

Along with its Green by Design Awards, the Scottsdale bureau's green efforts include working to promote the city's sustainable offerings at the Green Build International Conference and Expo in November. To correlate with the conference, the bureau, along with the City of Scottsdale and the Scottsdale Downtown Group, is working on a special Green Street Scottsdale event to showcase sustainable ventures and provide conference attendees an opportunity to experience downtown Scottsdale. The event will include the weekly Scottsdale ArtWalk, live music, artist demonstrations and exhibitions.

CREATIVITY FLOURISHES IN SCOTTSDALE'S TWO NEWEST PROPERTIES
Scottsdale is a luxury destination offering myriad hotels and amenities, and the city's newest resorts, the InterContinental Montelucia Resort & Spa and W Scottsdale Hotel & Residences, abound with fine art and eclectic architecture that bring creative personality to already world-class accommodations.
Bring home an imaginative keepsake from your Scottsdale vacation from the InterContinental Montelucia Resort's onsite gallery, Mementos. Located in the resort's main plaza, the Costello-Childs Contemporary Gallery features Arizona artists along with contemporary artists from around the world. Sure to satisfy art lovers of all mediums, the gallery displays and sells a vast selection of paintings, photography and sculptures. For media information, contact Kirsten Schaefer at kirsten.schaefer@ihg.com or (480) 627-3141.
Breaking the mold from traditional hotel architecture, the W Scottsdale Hotel mixes global and local influences into its design. Upon entrance into the hotel, guests are welcomed by an Indonesian petrified wood exhibit dating back to pre-historic times. The lobby, called the Living Room, also is anchored by a two-story, natural stone art wall created with Arizona minerals by local artist Otto Rigan. A floating staircase made of Brazilian Kumaru wood leads guests upstairs to the rooftop entertainment deck overlooking the city while hallway walls are contoured by 20,000 square feet of Jerusalem stone, imported directly from Israel. For media information, contact Amy Smith at amy@crosby-wright.com or (480) 367-1112.
SCOTTSDALE DESIGNERS SHOWCASE ONE-OF-A-KIND CREATIONS IN THE SONORAN DESERT
Scottsdale is best known for golf courses, spas, resorts and the Sonoran Desert, but this chic cosmopolitan city is unquestionably a shopper's paradise. Travelers find everything from Western-themed tchotchkes and fine art galleries to upscale boutiques and outdoor promenades. But what many fashionistas may not realize is that Scottsdale also boasts a number of local fashion designers making a name for themselves around the world.
Angela Johnson is a local favorite in Scottsdale who is not only a clothing designer but also a fashion design instructor, fashion business consultant, fashion show coordinator and official local designer "liaison" for Scottsdale Fashion Week. She is best known for creating ball gowns (no two are ever alike) that she designs and sews from recycled T-shirts. Jewelry lovers check out Beth Church, recipient of the 2006 Fashion Group International "Rising Star" award and featured as the 2007 best local jewelry designer in Phoenix Magazine. Church is a self-taught designer who artfully designs edgy, gothic jewelry with a feminine touch using rare vintage glass, gemstones, freshwater pearls, Swarovski crystals, and antique buttons, brooches and baubles. Shoppers will want to indulge in her one-of-a-kind "good girl gone bad" limited edition pieces that are truly pieces of wearable art. Christopher Ryan Palmer and Scott McFarland, founders and designers of kristopher skott, were so inspired with Scottsdale that they named a line of their handbags after the city. The high-end leather handbags exhibit a contemporary spin on the American Southwest lifestyle and exude the influence of the desert landscaping thru the designs and colors. For media information, contact Tatum Luoma at tluoma@scottsdalecvb.com or (480) 889-2719.
