Famous for putting the ‘mock' in democracy, the Capitol Steps have become an annual Thanksgiving weekend tradition at Scottsdale Center for the Performing Arts. The irreverent group charms audiences on both sides of the aisle with its unique brand of political humor set to popular music. While the Steps are renowned for poking fun at occupants of the White House, no one is safe from their wickedly funny jabs, from Democrats to Republicans and from Congress to the Supreme Court.

Depending on the scandal of the day, the Steps will perform selections from their up-to-the-minute repertoire, including songs and skits from their latest albums, Obama Mia and Barackin' Around the Christmas Tree, with special ‘guest appearances' by President and Nobel Prize winner Barack Obama, Dick Cheney, Sarah Palin, Nancy Pelosi and many more.

The Capitol Steps' performances are sponsored in laughing memory of Steve Simon by his family and are presented with support from Marriott Suites Scottsdale Old Town.

Chopin for Lovers marks the opening of the 30th anniversary season of Jeffrey Siegel's Keyboard Conversations in Scottsdale. Prior to performing each work in its entirety, Siegel introduces it to the audience so that the listening experience is accessible, focused and enthralling.

Inspired by different women in the composer's love life, the compositions in Chopin for Lovers represent some of the most stirring and romantic music ever written, including Chopin's vivacious Waltz in E flat, the dreamy Larghetto, the dramatic and lyric Preludes and the stormy Scherzo No. 3.

This season, all four of Siegel's Keyboard Conversations are devoted to Frédéric Chopin, whose demanding piano works stand as masterpieces of 19th-century Romanticism. Chopin's 200^th birthday is being observed throughout the world in 2010. In addition to Chopin for Lovers on Dec. 1, this season's Keyboard Conversations will include Chopin the Patriot on Jan. 12, Chopin the Storyteller on Feb. 23 and Chopin and the Future on March 23.

This year the galleries in the Scottsdale Arts District are hosting their Small Works Shows on the same date, Thursday, December 3rd. More than 30 galleries have come together to host their individual Small Works shows featuring everything from traditional fine art, contemporary and abstract art to Native American pottery, glasswork, jewelry, Persian miniatures, artifacts and much more. Each gallery will feature small works created by artists they represent. Paintings are generally 12"x12" or smaller, but small works means just about any type of artwork small enough to fit in a shopping bag. Beth Lauterbach, Owner of Scottsdale Fine Art explained, "Hosting our show openings on the same evening brings art lovers together for the unique opportunity to see the largest selection of small works in the state. This event is unparalleled in this part of the country."

All participating galleries are within walking distance. Most of the galleries are on Main Street, Trailside Gallery is located in the Scottsdale Civic Center Mall and several galleries on Marshall Way will also host Small Works shows. Seasonally, the weather in Scottsdale in early December is temperate. Expect to stroll the picturesque area under starry skies. The Arts District maintains a festive atmosphere with sparkly lights strung across the streets in the trees. All the Main Street galleries will display poinsettias to elevate the festive mood of the holiday season.
