Wax paper resist:

Distress Stains (Marmalade) for the base, then I put a stencil over my project and inked with the same color in Distress Ink:

3 Different shades of Distress Stains on a paper towel. Horrible blending job but I tried:

This one might be hard to see. I sprayed using my choice of color with Glimmer Mist, laid a paper towel over it, then a brayer pressing down very hard, and lift. You can barely see the little dots from the paper towel:

Smash Book part 2

Smash book pages: part 1

Sorry! I got busy with all that Zen Cart stuff that I neglected projects! Serious multi-tasking lately. Ok, so here it is, so far. Some of the first pages of the Smash Book project. The first pic is using Denim. Kind of blah but I've been wanting to use denim (an old pair of jeans) on something:

Dictionary page, Gesso, and Acrylic paint:

Cheese cloth (used Mod Podge to adhere) and Acrylic paint:

Distress Stains and a mask:

One thing I learned is, working with a composition notebook, and the loose leaf paper inside, there's a lot of bleeding. But it adds to the character of the album so I'm not complaining. :-)

My Alcohol Ink experiment

First I started with an empty can of my favorite chocolate. Unfortunately, Ms no longer sells the tin cans I want. I heard HL has them so I will check next time I'm out that way. These cans will do for what I want, but in the meantime I thought I would see how well Alcohol Ink will cover up the print:

I chose my first weapon:

Hmm...not quite. Nice tint but I want the ink to cover everything:

Tried a darker color:

Sigh...

Even darker (and fingers crossed):

Grrr!

Now I've pulled out the big guns, BLACK:

Needless to say, I will not be painting my can black. I bought 3 cans of Pirouette with the intent to do a shabby chic look on them with old paper I have stashed away. Stay tuned!

The shopping section is open (sort of)

Yes! I finally got the help I needed with Zen Cart! The shopping section is coming along beautifully!

Since I first entered items in the shopping cart almost a year ago, some have sold; plus, I have gotten in many MANY new products that need to be added to the store catalog. So I now have to check each item. But basically we are LIVE! Just click on the shop tab above! All that Zen Cart logo stuff is gone!

I will continue to make changes in customization so the blog end and shopping section look the same and are seamless (my dream, my goal). This may take some time, but the most important part is done. I also need to figure out how I am going to manage a "deal of the day". Stay tuned!

What I've been doing today...

Never mind the Smash Book (pics tomorrow), I've made serious strides in customizing the shopping section of this website. You can't see the changes yet but I'm working on it right now as I write (took a little break), very excited and one step closer to the customization I've been dreaming about for so long! Thank goodness for a Kindle version of a book on Zen Cart to help me!

New smash book project

Is that what it's called? Ever since CHA and the workshop at Prima I've been so inspired! While looking for something I came across this Composition notebook that was originally meant to be a journal. I never journaled in it. The cover is decorated from years ago - which I think I will leave as is.

Well, all I will tell you for now is I have some old denim, and an old unabridged dictionary. Check back tomorrow to see what I did on a few of the pages.

I have linked the shopping cart tab near the top of this page with the shopping cart section of this website. You may, over the course of the next few months as time allows, see major changes so the entire website is seamless and we customize the shopping cart system.

For now, if you click on the Shop tab, it will take you to the shopping section, but you will need type in the URL to get back to the blog. Again, it will take some time before the shopping section is seamless with the blog section so you can simply click on a button and come right back.

More on painting

Below are a few of my earlier painting on porcelain projects. Actually I bought some tiles at Home Depot and painted on them. The first one, I attempted to paint on of my dogs, a shih tzu. The photo is a paper print out of what I started with. We use graphite paper to trace onto the tile:

I'm not quite finished with these two. I pretty much abandoned these tiles to work on the poinsettia plates:

Yes, I'm a Monty Python fan. But that's not what this post is all about. I've been taking a class on porcelain painting for a year now. So I thought it was time to share some of that with my readers.

Don't worry, I'm still very much devoted to scrapbooking. In fact, I used a recipe card stamp of mine on one of my current painting projects. Yup. I painted the stamp and placed it in the center of a series of plates I'm working on:

I have five of these plates I bought for $4 each from my paint instructor. My intent was to have them painted in time for Christmas, hand write the recipe on the plate, bake the recipe, and give it all, goodies and plate, as a gift. Unfortunately, I did not have time to paint poinsettias and leaves around the edge of 5 plates before Christmas came and passed. But now I have all year. And I've already completed 3 plate (2 are shown below):

Obviously I need to define the recipe card lines a little better. The plate is concaved in the center and it was enough that I peeled off the stamp from the wood piece and then stamped (carefully). I now need to fire the plates and then I will move on to painting the leaves. In case you're wondering, I used porcelain paint on the stamp, not ink.

CHA Winter 2012 Booth Decorations: Ranger

You know I had to save the best for last! What's a trip to CHA without stopping at the Ranger booth! I just love how their artists and designers come up with really cool examples on how to use their product. I also learned a little something about the Melt Art - something I will share later in the form of a tutorial.

For a while, when I saw the mini-version of some of Tim's dies, I was thinking "so?" But now I get it. TAGS! CARDS! ATC's! and other cool stuff!

Now that I'm home, I plan to start duplicating some of these tags. Maybe not exactly, but at least in concept. More than likely, several will have my own twist only because I'll get hit in the head with a major idea while working on them.

Hmm...I just got a great idea at this typing. I think I'll take some of my favorite lyrics and apply them to ATCs
and tags. Stay tuned!

I have always wanted to know how to do things like, especially since I paint on porcelain on the side, and now I know: Resin from ETI. There is another brand, and I've used it, but not with the success and ease that ETI can pretty much promise. Since I did not get the results I wanted from the other brand, I was afraid to spend more money on ETI. So glad to see it at the show and how well it works. It takes the polishing out of the process, something I really don't have time to do:

CHA Winter 2012 Booth Decorations: 7 Gypsies

I love visiting the 7 Gypsies' booth at CHA. So many wonderful home decor ideas. I wish I had enough wall space for some of this.

I really like this one. Fortunately I have an old yardstick that once belonged to my grandmother. Hmm...putting on my thinking cap to see what I can come up with. Maybe paper covered chipboard with large eyelets and then have a bunch of photos on it. What do you think? It would go in my hallway:

I think I'm going to have to do something similar and place it on top of my piano:

Ooh! I know the perfect spot for something like this. On the wall by the side door of the house. Of course, it would have an old world tropical flare to it:

There's an area above our front that I want to decorate. All I need is the library card box and scraps of paper from personal stash to make it work:

Ok, I suppose, in the same area above the front door, I can have an illusion like this. I was planning on hitting the flea markets this weekend anyway:

I would put something like this in my living room on the built-in shelf area and fill it with photos of some our favorite places we have visited.

As some of you know, I'm a tropical kind of girl. Naturally it was hard for me to resist the new Tropical Travelogue display at Graphic 45. This is a line of paper we will eventually get in and heavily promote. How could we not?

When you have a really good layout, don't you find it difficult to cover it up in photos?

As the week progresses, CHA attendees tend to get a little loopy, myself included. I don't know if it's the lack of sleep, lack of a decent meal, or a combination of both. A funny thing happened on the way to CHA...

I just HAD to stop at the Graphic 45 booth, now did? Ok, here's a story for ya'. I've been on a decorating spree lately for my house. So off I went to my local HL store to see what they had. One thing I really appreciate about HL is the wide variety of home decor.

So, there I am, admiring this big, beautiful clock with crackled paint all over it. It's quite heavy. And I know there's no way it's going up on the wall in my staircase until I hire a handyman for the job; neither DH, nor I, have the guts to climb a ladder to hang that thing.

That was a couple of weeks ago. And yes, the clock is operational with a AA battery (ok, maybe 3 of them, I forgot).

Fast forward to CHA and the G45 booth. Guess what's there on display. Only they must have been reading my mind because they one-upped me by putting paper on the clock:

Now how awesome is that?
