Readers:

We would like to take a quick moment to bring something to your attention. There is a special little boy, Noah Biorkman, that most likely will be having his last Christmas this year. In fact, his family is celebrating Christmas early this year to make certain that he has one. One of his wishes it to receive Christmas cards.

We have been asked by a friend of the family to see if our card swap group would be willing to send some of the cards from our swap. Of course, we can do that. However, we think we can do better. We would love everyone that reads this to take a short moment from their busy lives to send a card to this little guy. For the price of a postage stamp and a card, you will help make his wish come true.

If you are able and have the desire to do so, please send a card. If you can not, please keep him and his family in your prayers.

June Card Swap Results

Summer Oragami:

You really should file this post under your 'try it' section - a card featuring origami. I know the word origami sounds complex, maybe even a little intimidating, but its really easier than you think - and what you end up with after all that folding is a mini work of art! I'm so excited to share the results from our June origami card swap challenge. I see so much potential for BBQ, birthday, and pool party invites, as well as any other occasion under the sun! Enjoy...

Linda M's Card:

The 4th of July is just around the corner and this card is designed to get you in the mood for fireworks! Patriotic pinwheels and rhinestone stars dazzle the front of this fun origami card - great job Linda!

Kathy's Card:

Summer fun is a breeze with this light-hearted card. An origami kite adorns the front complete with ribbon tail and button embellies. Nicely done Kathy.

Jodi's Card:Its easy to just keep swimming when you are an adorable origami fish. A rain dot eye and bubbles cut from Webster's Pages 'Shimmer' Paper offer the perfect finishing touches. Anita's Card:

Rather than featuring origami on the card, Anita featured a folded card. A 'fun in the sun' tag is neatly tucked inside a folded slider envelope then gussied up with all things summer. Bring on the sunshine!

Andrea's Card:
Hang loose with this little sea turtle - he's another totally awesome pattern from www.TammyYee.com. I love the way that Andrea tore sheets of Coredinations 'ColorCore' cardstock to create a layered beach for her turtle and surf board. Great idea Andrea!

Selestina's Card:

An elegant origami tulip offers the perfect finishing touch to this classy card. I really like the colors Selestina tied the card together with. Beautifully done!

Linda R's Card:

Linda R's layered origami pinwheel makes quite the statement - more like a work of art, Linda actually used index card folders for her envelopes for an impressive presentation! Very nice.

Patti's Card:

The amount of detail in this ornate card makes for a truly lovely card. Intricate kimos coupled with stamped asian details (the translation for the characters, 'Thank You', is inside) make this card something that could easily be displayed. Well done Patti!

Cheryl's Card:

Cheryl brighten's up the summer sky with this patriotic tribute. I like the added sparkle of the stars and star bursts - gets me in the mood for hot dogs, lawn chairs, and fireworks! Nicely done Cheryl.

My Card:

My card hits the beach with an origami crab, sand bucket, and sunshine. A textured beach and background added some pattern and interest to the card. It was fun to make - but a lot of folding!

Hope you enjoyed looking at all the great results from our summer origami card challenge. I know that I was really impressed with the cards this month - its going to be hard to give them away.

May Cardswap Results - Finally!

May-saics!

Hi all! Sorry it has taken so long to get these May cards up, however I think you'll find the results worth the wait. Our May card swap challenge was Mosaics! Lots of little pieces interpreted lots of different ways. Take a peak below -

Andrea's Card:

Andrea's card was pretty in pink with abstract mosaic pieces in rosy hues tucked behind a piece of vellum for a frosted look. A frayed piece of Daisy Bucket paper ribbon is stapled to the front for added whimsy. Nicely done Andrea.

Linda M.'s Card:

This card is a hoot - or at least a cluck! Linda used a variety of earth tone papers to piece together a mosaic back drop. Its hard to see in the photo, but she even used sand paper in the mix creating lots of fun texture. Stamped chicken feed and stamped chicken feet, a piece of real chicken coop, and a friendly little chicken add to the light hearted message - 'Just Chicken In'. Very fun Linda - I loved this card.

Jodi's Card:

A myriad of pastels are cleverly pieced together on this light-hearted card. The fairies stamped on the front are from a 'Crafty Secrets' stamp set and are adorned in glitter - a fanciful touch. Jodi actually glued her mosaic pieces on a large sheet before trimming them down into smaller square pieces (used as the four squares that form her back drop). Great idea Jodi!

Kathy's Card:

Kathy cut and pieced hearts out of a variety of paper patterns to create a heartfelt interpretation of mosaic (no pun intended). Hand drawn stitching along the edge of the pieces completes the hand quilted feel and a textured back drop adds the perfect finishing touch to this sweet card.

Cheryl's Card:

So many ways to tell someone how you feel, why not say it with a mosaic? Cheryl did just that with this clever card - first she stamped I love you', 'friends', and 'you make me happy' on a variety of square pieces then scattered them across a striped background for a fun mosaic idea!

Linda R's Card:

Linda R. actually printed an image of a lovely spring flower on a label before slicing it into smaller pieces and carefully piecing them back together on a striking black background. This was a great idea - a mosaic in the truest sense of the word. Good work Linda.

Patti's Card:

I love the color pallet and overall feel of this card. Patti created a simple mosaic backdrop with four patterned squares, then overlaid them with a geometric flower and leaves. Patti said she drew her inspiration from the simplicity of an Amish quilt - with a tropical twist! Nicely done.

MaryAnn's Card:

Don't feel like piecing all those tiny squares together - here's a unique idea - emboss them! MaryAnn's card features an embossed mosaic background in striking black and white. A very classy combination and a nicely done card MaryAnn.

Anita's Card:

Another black and white interpretaion with a touch of turquoise, Anita created a mosaic backdrop, then mounted a combination of fun spring sayings on top. A well thought out and well put together card Anita!

Selestina's Card:

Selestina created a very clever thank you card by piecing together a heart on the front, with the message 'with all my heart' on the inside! Pearlescent papers in pastel colors add to the overall texture of the card - a nice card as usual Selestina!

My Card:

My mosaic is actually a combination of different size squares and rectangles pieced onto a black background, with a hand pieced tulip on top. It was kind of a contemporary interpretation of mosaic. The mosaic itself is actually mounted on the 'envelope', which is a CD style slider. The card itself is just a simple bi-fold card with a saying stamped on front.

April's Card Swap a Blast from the Past

April showers bring May flowers and memories of times gone by..... well at least that's the case with our April card swap. This month, we paid tribute to bygone eras with our monthly theme - retro!

This was the first month that we split the card swap into two groups, and we added some new members too - welcome Cheryl G., Cheryl W., and Mary Ann! Check out the results from both card swaps below....

Linda R's Card:

If you are looking for a classic retro theme - what could be more appropriate that Mickey? Hurray for the little mouse who seems to transcend generational bounds. A very cute, and classic card.

Linda M's Card:

The splash of funky flowers and dash of spritely colors in this card may just cause a few flashbacks! This cheery card is the perfect way to brighten someone's day! FYI - The 'Happy Birthday to You Stamp' is from the Crafty Secret's Clear Art Stamp Set 'Sweet Kids', available at http://www.scrapbuglane.com/. Nice job Linda!

Patti's Card:

Patti's card features a hand pieced owl in harvest gold, pumpkin, dusty blue, and rust - can you say home sweet home 1970! The adorable card reads - 'Birthday's are for the Birds'. Great job Patti, this card is a hoot (no pun intended)!

Lisa K's Card:

Who could forget Marilyn's famous birthday address to JFK? That memorable moment is beautifully recreated in this fun card. Retro pastels, accompanied by the glimmer of rhinestones and glitter say 'ooh, la, la'. Viva old Hollywood!

My Card:

This card is designed to echo the warmth and sunshine of grandma's kitchen (minus the chocolate chip cookies). The card features cherries from the Crafty Secrets Clear Art Stamp Set 'Kitchen Classics'. Inside reads 'Happy Birthday With A Cherry On Top'. An alternate sentiment could be 'Hope Your Birthday is as Sweet as Cherry Pie'.

Selestina's Card:

The wings of this little cherub echo a vintage birthday sentiment. This beautiful card offers a victorian look and feel using papers from Prima's 'Angelique' collection. A torn edge technique takes advantage of the beautiful color core in 'Coredinations' cardstock and adds to the antique feel. A really pretty card!

Jessica's Card:

This fun card is big on color and oh so sleek! A throw back to mid-century modern, the embossed candles and simple patterning keep things contemporary. A great card Jessica!

Greta's First Card:

Greta kept things fun and retro by using a funky paper in cool shades of lime. A few gem stone sparkles and its a flash from the past!

Greta's Second Card:

Greta is a member of both card swaps and actually created a different card for each swap. This card uses a mid-century modern background. Add a few self-adhesive rhinestones and viola - retro and fun!

Andrea's Card:

This adorable card takes us back to a more innocent age with stamps from the Crafty Secrets Clear Art Stamp Set, 'Birthday Kids' (available at http://www.scrapbuglane.com/). Andrea added to the vintage look and feel with edge distressing. I think these kids are ready to celebrate - great job Andrea!

Cheryl G's Card:

Cheryl G.'s birthday card is lacy and whimsical with a polka dot background and soft pastel colors. Layered die-cuts create a well put together card. Nice job Cheryl G, and welcome to the swap!

Jodi's Card:

Jodi proves that retro can be vogue with this stylish card. A retro fashionista has been enhanced with the use of adhesive jewels and watercolor pencils. 'Vintage Collection' cardstocks from Coredinations further enhance the retro look & feel. FYI - stamped image available in the Crafty Secrets Clear Art Stamp Set 'Coffee and Tea'. Great job Jodi!

Cheryl W's Card:

With all the charm of a hand-cut victorian card, Cheryl's card is a delicate reflection of days gone by. Cheryl used a variety of images for her cards - I love the gentle image of motherhood this one portrays. Great job Cheryl - we're glad to have you in the swap.

For March's Card Swap, we each had to pick an Irish Blessing to use on our cards. Our Theme was open - so some of the cards we got where spring themed, St Patrick's Day themed, Easter themed and even one for baby! Check out the cards below and see the look and feel of Ireland for yourself.

on a black card, to make this Celtic Cross Card.

Hues of Blues

Does winter have you singing the blues? Take control of those blues, and capture them in a stunning layout or card! This month's card swap featured a panel of cards designed in hues of blues (and I think you'll find the results inspiring). From azure to indigo, from navy to sky, we packaged up blues in many unexpected ways! Check out the fabulous results of our 'Hues of Blues' card challenge below....enjoy!

Jodi's Card:

I love the saturated color of the cardstock Jodi chose. The white flowers (from the Prima bucket blooms) form a stark contrast with their very deeply colored background. Lots of texture in this fresh, pretty card.

Patti's Card:

Patti featured a light blue shooting star on her card. The cool of the blue is accented with a silver medallion cut from Webster's Pages 'Shimmer' cardstock. The square shape and center cut opening combine with the sparkle of the star to form a dazzling card - very classy.

Lisa K's Card:

Lisa K's card cleverly features a pull out tag - a fun design element. She accents her blues with neutral browns, including a die cut, embossed and sanded stop watch. The card reads 'Time to Tell You' on the outside and 'Thank You, Thank You, Thank You....' on the inside. What a fun card!

Linda R's Card:

Linda R captures the violet hues in blue with this pretty design. A simple silver ribbon placed behind three flowers adds a touch of sparkle, and I really like the way that Linda double stamped 'thank you' on the front. Very calming!

Jessica's Card:

Jessica designed her card inside and out using a die-cut shape that looks hand stitched. Jessica proves that different shades of blue can work together, featuring a teal backdrop on a denim colored card. The green stem and blue and pink flower tie it all together for a beautiful result.

Greta's Card:

Greta features a dreamy blue background, cool silver letters, and pop-up/die-cut flowers for a bright and cheery result. The card and envelope are glossy giving this card a very polished feel. Nice job Greta.

Andrea's Card:

Andrea combined warm neutrals and dusty blues to create this timeless card. The word 'Thanks' is embossed on a blue background, and the red flower in the left corner is actually die cut out of blue with a red background to mimic the red floral design in the center strip. These two design features, along with hand knotted centers for the little flowers on the center strip add lots of wonderful texture to the card. Nicely done!

Linda M's Card:

What do you think of when you think of blue - the ocean, water, glass? This card captures the sheerness of blue with a cute little bouquet of blue colored flowers in what looks like a little glass bowl. The bright blue in the background strip, as well as the floral design is mirrored a hand cut tag. Very cute.

Selestina's Card:

Selestina's Card features an adorable flower cut out of the front of the card to reveal a little blue flower peeking out from the inside. The blue and green combination is soft and breezy like a summer afternoon. Very cute card Selestina - way to chase away the winter blues!

Stacy's Card:

Stacy's card features a patchwork background using paper from the 'Blooming' collection by Studio 8. A lazy daisy and stitched grosgrain ribbon complete the look and feel of this charming little card.

Krissi's Card:

Bold and elegant, Krissi's card is classy and classic. This monotone design could be mimicked in any number of color combinations for a lovely wedding invitation, graduation announcement, or in this case, thank you card! Nicely done Krissi.

My Card:

A sprig of spring blossoms cut from blue transparency awaits the recipient of this card. Each flower was accented with a white brad atop a silver sequin. The inside reads 'So Grateful'. I wanted to create a calming, natural feel with this simple design.

That does it for this month's card swap. I was really pleased with the results this month - it was fun seeing all the cool blues. Three Hearts are Better than One!

All the Fun Pics from January's Card Swap

Without further ado - we are finally getting the photos from January's card swap posted! Sorry for the delay - January has proven to be a hectic month! Apparently it was for some of our card swap members too - only 9 of our 12 members participated this month. Though the group was smaller, the results were still great! The challenge was to incorporate three hearts into the card design. It was fun seeing how each member came up with a completely different look using the same basic design element - hearts. We hope you'll love the results as much as we do!

Jodi's Card (Front and Back):

Jodi used the 'oh so cute' Valentine Cards from Fancy Pants Designs to create this unique card. This card doesn't fold, but is rather comprised of a single panel, front and back. She finished the top of her card by folding a doily over it, then tied it with hand strung beads for an extra special touch. Adorable card Jodi.

Jessica's Card:

This 'love'ly card was designed using an embossed image of a bunny (bottom left corner). Jessica hand colored the word 'love' on the front of the card, then finished it off with a piece of ribbon and some glittery brads. Very cute!

Andrea's Card:

Softly distressed, Andrea embossed heart images onto three tiny squares then scattered them across a rose colored background. The words 'I Miss You' are stamped onto a vellum surface and a tiny piece of magic mesh as well as a single brad offer thoughtful finishing touches. Very nice.

Patti's Card:

Patti cleverly incorporated her three hearts by creating a telescoping pattern. She cut a matching heart image out of the front of her card then raised the smaller heart so that it would protrude through the opening. Liquid glass was added to the smallest heart for added interest. Finally, Patti stamped the words 'from my heart' to the front of the card. A classy card.

Greta's Card:

Greta is one of two ladies joining the card swap this month - welcome Greta! In her debut card Greta featured four crystal hearts on a black background. Inside, Greta placed a white panel matted with red cardstock, a great solution to the sometimes tricky-to-write-on black card. Well done Greta.

Selestina's Card:

Selestina stamped and embossed a combination of hearts and swirls to create an image in the likeness of a rose - very creative. The words 'Special Friendship' were added to the front with a gromlet. A satin ribbon trim and single gemstone add the perfect finishing touches to this lovely card!

Linda M's Card:

Though its difficult to see in the photo, Linda chose metallic red cards for this project - a nice touch! Linda created a lacy motif using a variety of heart and lace punches. A piece of pink grosgrain is woven through the white background strip, then topped with three pretty hearts: a vellum heart, a red cardstock heart, and a light pink embossed cardstock sticker heart. As a finishing touch, Linda placed a heart shaped gem in the peak of the envelope flap. Very pretty.

Linda R's Card:

A 'heart'y welcome to our other brand new member, Linda R. from California! Linda got off to a great start with this bold card in black and red. Linda hand wove black and red strips to create a checkerboard mat which she framed atop a lacy background. Two of her hearts appear as paper clips on the front, but the third heart - why its inside of course, stamped with the heartfelt message, 'Happy Valentine's Day'.

My Card:

I guess the dreary winter had me in the mood for springtime brights, so I used lemony yellows and salmon pinks for a bit of pep! My three hearts were arranged as a flower with two pastel green leaves attached using 'staple stems'. I finished the center of the flower with a knotted ribbon. Overall, I think I was able to accomplish the cheery outcome I was hoping for.

Our Fabulous November Card Swap Results!

The results are in and I think its fair to say that, ladies, we put the bling in Christmas! Wow - was I ever impressed with the cards this month - beautiful! I really tried to do them justice in the photos, but to no avail! I spent an hour trying to get decent pictures before concluding that you just can't do them justice. I also concluded that I need a better camera (hopefully my husband is reading this - wink, wink).

Thanks for helping me get in the Christmas spirit. My only dilemma now is that I don't think I can bring myself to give any of them away. I've posted my poor attempts at photographing them below. Enjoy!

Andrea's Card

This card is just adorable and very thoughtfully put together. The oval in the center is actually cut out so that you can see the snowman stamped on the inside of the card. Andrea hand stamped snowflakes on blue cardstock creating a subtle monotone patterning. She turned up the corner to reveal one snowflake in bottom corner. A touch of ribbon, some Stickles Glitter Glue, gemstone buttons, and puffy snow drops (created with liquid applique - available at ScrapBugLane.com) and you have a really nicely done card!

Lisa K's Card

What you can't see in this photo is how truly sparkly this card is - it really wowed me. Lisa used the cuttle bug to emboss snowflakes on her glittery background piece. She then embossed a white snowflake on vellum (very frosty) and hand cut the snow flake for a centerpiece. The snowflakes are enhanced with Class-A-Peels Dot Sparklers - a nice departure from gems and very, very sparkly! Unfortunately, I couldn't capture the inside of this card, which was stamped and embossed 'two tone' with white and pale blue embossing powders. This card truly shines!

Selestina's Card

Selestina created this adorable card using Snowy Jo papers and a row of festive snowmen. She accented the snowmen with Christmas Red Stickles, and enhanced their snowy base with Diamond Stickles (both available at ScrapBugLane.com). A couple of red sequins are attached at the right hand corner to add that last bit of holiday bling. She ties the red in by stamping the inside with red ink. I don't know about you, but snowmen make me happy and this card did too!

Linda's Card

Pearlescent cardstock in Lunar Blue (available at ScrapBugLane.com) creates the perfect background for this little snow angel! The stamped image is enhanced with watercolor pencils and glitter, creating the perfect winter scene. For finishing touches, Linda added two snowflake brads to the corners of the image, and stamped a Christmas message inside. A little cup of cocoa is stamped right in the peak of the envelope flap - the perfect thing to finish off a snowy day! This card was really well done and even made me happy about the prospect of snow. My hat and gloves go off to you Linda!

Jod's Card

Classy is the perfect word for this little beauty. Jodi used matchbook style cards (available at ScrapBugLane.com), added an embossed piece in White Gold cardstock, and the simple message 'Believe' on the front, enhanced with little red gems and some colored pencils. A sheer red ribbon is tied over the flap and a straight pin with a pearl nob is neatly tucked within the knot. This card is really pretty and even a bit formal. I could see using this same format for an unforgettable wedding invitation. Nicely done Jodi!

Krisi's Card

Krisi created a winter wonderland with lots of silvery shine! She used a silver cardstock background, added a sparkly foam snowman with hand drawn face, a piece of sparkly silver ric-rac, rhinestone snowflakes, and silver glitter at the top and base for a silver plated success. The simple message, 'Frosty' is handwritten in a white pen. Very frosty (and fun) indeed!

Jessica's Card

These little polar bears are racing by to say 'hi' on an adorable winter card from Jessica. The bears are stamped in a dark blue and embossed for a glittery look. Jessica has enhanced the little bears with flocking for a fuzzy and 'beary' appropriate feel. The background is embossed with snowflakes, then lightly sanded and glittered! This card is so fun and cute - another one that makes me actually want snow!

Patti's Card

There's so much I love about this super snowy card! Patti spent lots of hours building the perfect snowman for this card. The card itself is cut from Majestic Blue on Black Knight cardstock (available at ScrapBugLane.com), which gives it a magical midnight sky appeal. Three circles cut from White Gold cardstock are neatly stacked, then enhanced with a black felt hat, square brad eyes, a hand cut carrot nose, a black Stickles Glitter Glue mouth, a fuzzy fiber scarf, a shiny snowflake, three little buttons, and hand cut twig arms. A torn piece of glitter cardstock gives Frosty a mound of snow to stand on and snow drops created with Waterfall Stickles ensures Frosty a cold winters night to be happy about. Inside, the words 'Let it Snow' are stamped in white and enhanced with glitter glue (doesn't show in the pic - sorry). Lots of hours in this card Patti! Great job.

Stacy's Card

This shimmery card is appropriately frosty for a holiday card. Stacy selected paper form the Bo Bunny 'Holiday Cheer' collection (available at ScrapBugLane.com). The strip of white on the right hand side is made from White Gold cardstock (unfortunately its shimmery effect doesn't show up in the photo). To separate the two papers, Stacy has added a shiny silver ribbon, then finished the front with a 'Snowy Jo' Snowblossom (available at SBL) and the word 'Frosty' is stamped on a White Gold cardstock background. Very pretty card Stacy.

Sally's Card

Sally created a peaceful winter setting with this card in wintry hues. The square card is lightly embossed. Two strips of wintry paper form the left hand border, then three clean lined trees have been stamped on top of the papers and card. A large 'Snowy Jo' Snowblossom (available at ScrapBugLane.com) lights up the sky and is attached with a brad from the 'Winter' Brads in a Bag collection (also available at ScrapBugLane.com). The words peace and joy are stamped in black, and a Christmas message finishes off the inside. Great job Sally - I really liked this card.

My Card

My card was cut from clear computer transparency. The edges on the front were enhanced with StazOn White Cotton ink. The Front green background piece was cut from the ScrapWorks 'Oh What Fun' collection, and the ornament was cut from a sheet of striped paper out of the SEI 'Alpine Frost' collection. The top of the ornament was created using Webster's Pages 'Shimmer' papers and a Karen Foster loopy brad. I couldn't believe how much the shimmer paper looked like real metal. The blingy center was created using the Heidi Swapp 'Bling' flower centers, and the inside black background piece (as well as the 'star' center surround on the ornament itself) were created using Coredinations 'Black Magic' cardstock in Hypnotic. A touch of glitter was added with Christmas Red Stickles, and the message on the inside was stamped with an Encore, Ultimate Metallic stamp pad. All supplies available at ScrapBugLane.com.

October DT Challenge

The fabulous results of our October Design Team Challenge are in, and I think you'll be impressed. The challenge was to use only five products - Bo Bunny's 'Poppy' paper from their 'Beau Jardin' collection, topaz colored 'Say it in Crystals', Coredinations 'ColorCore' Cardstock in 'Bon Bon', and a package each of 'Chantilly Charms' and 'Steel Magnolias' from Imaginisce. A photo of the product each design team member was given follows, as do the results. Keep in mind when looking at these that we weren't allowed to use anything other than the 5 products and glue - we couldn't ink, couldn't add embellishments, stickers, handwriting, etc.

I can honestly say that this has been one of my favorite challenges thus far. I personally loved working with these papers and was amazed at the beautiful projects the DT was able to come up with using only 5 products! What can you come up with? All these products are available in our store, www.scrapbuglane.com. Pick them up today and try your own 5 product challenge. I think you'll be amazed at the results - I know I was!

This is the product each DT member was given to work with. The photo is kind of dark, but I think it gives you the idea. We couldn't add anything but glue!

The Results:

Dede

Dede designed an extra large single page layout that she is planning on having framed as a gift. This extra large layout will make quite a statement. I really liked the way that she repeated the background pattern by laying a matching piece on top and sanding the edges to make it stand out. Nicely done Dede.

Jodi

This is such a cute project, and so bright and cheery too. Jodi started with a set of wooden pumpkins, and then transformed them from plain to pretty. Great project Jodi. I loved these.

Selestina

Selestina created a classy message center for her kitchen. This project turned out great and will be a beautiful edition to her home. I love the way she tied in the black by using both sides of the patterned paper. With double sided paper you get the effect of 6 products with just 5! Great job Selestina.

Andrea

Andrea designed a lovely accordion book to display yet to be taken fall photos. She used a lot of monotone colors with sanded edges to create contrast, a technique I think worked nicely with these papers. I can really see this on a fireplace mantel, not just in the fall, but the whole year through. Really pretty.

My Project

When I saw the colors, I immediately thought of doing a heritage project, so I dug out a favorite photo of my grandparents and scrapped away. The gems and steel magnolias reminded me of the clip on earrings in my grandma's jewelry box, and I was happy with the overall effect. I had enough paper left over to do a second project - a bouquet of flowers. Having two boys I seldom get to work with flowers, so I had a lot of fun making these. The project really made me happy and I've enjoyed having it displayed on top of my piano!

October Card Swap Results

Photo Cards!

Well, the challenge was sent out, and the members responded. Yes, Octobers challenge proved a tricky one - design a card, a holiday themed card, using a photo. We also had a sketch to follow (see below). Once again, our card swap members stepped up to meet the challenge! Not everyone used a photo, but everyone came up with a thoughtful design and we have some really cute cards to share with you. I have to say that these cards really put me in the mood for winter and the holidays! Jessica's Card

Jessica created a frosty look by shrouding her icy mountain scene behind a veil of vellum. Shimmery cardstock mimics the reflective quality of the lake and the fun wintery brads finish off the bottom. Very nice!

Patti's Card

Ooh winter and ooh, la, la! Patti created a dazzling winter rendition by using the frosty blues found in our 'Holiday Cheer' collection from Bo Bunny. Layered bead and sequin snowflakes are trimmed out with rhinestones and a touch of glitter across the bottom creates a frosty winter feel. Very pretty.

Linda's Card

Santa's beard is softer than ever! Linda hand drew jolly santa faces then trimmed them with a feather beard and plaid santa hat. Linda wrote a festive 'ho, ho, ho' along the base of Santa using Calligraphy (beautiful handwriting Linda). Fun and cute ideas here!

Chrissy's Card

Chrissy stuck to the challenge by using a photo of her baby angel. She printed the photo in a blue tint to blend with the wintery theme of her color pallet. She cleverly added a halo to baby's head and finished off the card with a couple of snowflakes and ribbon trim. Good job Chrissy.

Jodi's Card

Jodi chose papers from our 'Holiday Cheer' collection by Bo Bunny for her fun and festive card. The snowflakes are attached with tiger tails (the plastic price tag fasteners) and a stamped image of a Christmas tree finishes off the front. The Christmas balls are highlighted with rain dots and an appropriately fluffy tree skirt has been added with the use of 'Liquid Applique' (cool stuff- it puffs when you heat it). Inside, Jodi included a 'gift card' pocket. Cute card!

Stacy's Card

Black, white, and a touch of silver create a classy color scheme and work to tie this card together nicely. Stacy closely followed the sketch using the center box for her adorable photo feature. The saying across the top says 'Sending Winter Wishes Your Way'. What a fun card Stacy - makes me want to build a snowman!

Andrea's Card

Andrea's card is on the tall order this month with a nutcracker sentry featured on the front. Classic Christmas reds and greens highlight the photo, the height of which has been accentuated by trimming it into three square sections. Andrea has created contrast between layers by sanding the cardstock. Very festive and a creative use of the sketch Andrea!

Lisa K's Card

This card is a stunner, with had stamped and gold embossed layers neatly stacked to create an elegant poinsettia. Its still hard for me to believe she stamped and cut out these layers 12 times (I can't imagine how much time this took)! Lisa writes that she used the 'Poinsettia Medallion' stamp from the Holly Berry House in Colorado Springs. Very impressive card Lisa.

Selestina's Card

Who can say no to those puppy dog eyes? Certainly not Santa (or me for that matter). Selestina's card featured a traditional color pallet with Emerald Green on Black Knight metallic cardstock from Wausau and some of the feather light red swirls paper from our handmade paper section. Her photo interpretation featured her puppy, Mocha. Nicely done!

Sally's Card

The innocence of childhood is captured in this adorable card from Sally. Sally used the 'Wrapped Wishes' papers from Daisy Bucket Designs and featured a photo of a child's hand hanging the first ornament of Christmas. Sally also stamped a tree inside (not shown) and colorized it with water color pencils. Good job Sally.

My Card

My card is a triple fold card created from Excalibur Steel on Black Knight metallic cardstock by Wausau. I photographed the letters 'J', 'O', and 'Y' off of various signs around town, then printed them wallet size in varying tints - black, red, and green. The concept was simple, though it took some time to find the right letters!

Creating with Coredinations ColorCore Cardstock

September's Design Team Challenge:

Wow - it doesn't seem possible, but yet another month has gone by and another design team challenge is in the bag! This month's challenge was a humdinger! Each member was asked to create a double page layout and at least one card using no patterned paper at all! The idea was to showcase Coredinations 'ColorCore' cardstock and demonstrate its versatility. Each member was given a $10 budget to buy supplies with. Supplies could include Coredinations 'ColorCore' carstock and embellies - that's it!

Well, the results are in and we couldn't be more pleased. After looking at these projects I think you'll agree that Coredinations 'Color Core' cardstock is the most versitile, amazing, and downright fun cardstock in the known Universe! Selestina

Is Coredinations up to the task of documenting someone's very first day of school - we think so! With her product, Selestina was able to create a great, double page school theme layout and still have enough product left for three fall themed cards. She used a variety of techniques with her Coredinations cardstock, including sanding, tearing, and distressing the edges. Her supply list included 'Home Again' narrow ribbon by O'Scrap (a bargain bin selection), We R Memory Keepers 'School' designer gromlets, and the following great cardstock colors: 'Meadow', 'Crab Grass', 'Curry', 'Bon Bon', and 'Iced Cocoa'. The results - fresh, crisp, and beautiful, like a walk in the park on a fall day!

Jodi

When Jodi's son brought home his Chameleon art project, it warranted a special layout - this is the fun result! Jodi did a great job creating contrast using brightly colored cardstock and a black background. What you can't see in the picture is the texture Jodi created by embossing and then sanding her background strips (see close ups). You also can't feel the amazing texture of this layout - almost like suede or leather! Jodi's product list included mini pewter brad fasteners that she worked into a stylish border and arrow, as well as the following cardstock colors: 'Cardinal', 'Kelly Green', 'Deco Coral', 'Imperial', 'Nightfall', 'Snowflake', and 'Forget Me Not'. What a fun and colorful background Coredinations helped create for a very special Chameleon!

Andrea

Not only did Andrea make a great double page layout with her product, she also made four adorable cards - wow. Andrea said she became obsessed with using every scrap. Her product included the 'I've Got Wheels' buttons, 'Cottage' color Chatterbox wood frames, and Around the Block 'Girl' magnifying glasses (all from the bargain bin), the Peep's Sake 'Flowers' stamp by Imaginisce, and the following cardstock colors: 'Scotch', 'Pumpkin Pie', 'Iced Cocoa', and 'Blue Lightning'. Andrea used all sorts of techniques with her cardstock - folding, sanding, tattering the edges, and tearing. She also utilized that stamp - which I love! I always say that a stamp is like an embellishment that never runs out. Its hard to believe that Andrea got all of that for less than $10. Very pretty project Andrea.

Mine

The great thing about Coredinations Color Core cardstock is that the more you work with it, the more it comes alive. I did just about everything I could think of to distress my cardstock including sanding and tearing. I also drew on the back of the cardstock with a pencil, then traced it with a stylus to create embossed images and letters that I later sanded - the dog on the layout and card was done this way, as well as the letters 'a' and 'and his' in the title (they show up much better in person - see close up). The other thing I did was lay my cardstock on top of a dog biscuit and sand over the top to create a 'dog bone' image. I only did this on my two light blue background strips. The close up of the dog also shows the 'dog bone' pattern. The card I made used the same stylus embossed dog with two different color eyes. The outside reads 'I love you' and the inside says ' just the way you are'. I'll use this in my son's lunchbox next week. My supplies were - Brown, 'Fineweave' Magic Mesh, 'Giddy Up Cowboy' small brads from O'Scrap (bargain bin), and the following cardstock colors: 'Admiral Blue', 'Scarlet', 'Navy', 'Argos', 'Tank', and 'Brownie'.

I hope you enjoyed these great projects. This challenge really proved that you don't have to have patterned paper to get awesome results, espcially when you have Coredinations 'ColorCore' cardstock to play with!

September Card Swap Results!

It's hard to believe, but another month has come and gone and we have more great results from the card swap to share with you! This month, the challenge was to use a winged creature in a fall themed card. We also had a sketch to follow. It was a lot to think about, but we persevered! Check out all the creative cards below -

Linda's Card

Linda is one of three new members to join our swap in September - welcome Linda! Her card features fun and festive stamped images of a pumpkin, spider, and (her winged creature) a bat! To add texture and dazzle, Linda used black glitter on her bat image - very fun! Great card Linda, hope it didn't leave you feeling too 'batty'.

Patti's Card

Patti used tags from the K & Company 'Mira' tag pad to create this bright and colorful card. Her winged creature was taken from the Around the Block 'Brads in a Bag' Buggie collection (found in our bargain section). She used a dragon fly brad on some, a butterfly on others. The whimsical butterfly design is repeated with a simple stamp on the envelope flap. Fresh and pretty!

Sally's Card

For her 'winged creature', Sally chose a rather unusual animal - Dumbo! He's dressed for fall in a dark purple cardsock and brings the simple message of 'Autumn Greetings'. The unique spelling of 'Sez' adds to the lighthearted nature of the card. Cute.

Krisi's Card

A big welcome to another one of our card swap newbies. This festive card was made using papers and tags from the Daisy D's 'Halloween' Collection (available in our bargain bin). A border of bats line the side of the card and a ghoulish 'Happy Halloween' message can be found inside. Great way to use the kit, Krisi.

Jodi's Card 'A'

This striking card offers a great interpretation of the sketch. Using a black background and the warm colors found in the brand new 'Ambrosia' collection from BasicGrey (also available at www.scrapbuglane.com), Jodi creates a simple masterpiece. Really nice.

Jodi's Card 'B'

'Whoooo, whooo' loves owls? Jodi does, and she's used them 'wisely' in this adorable card. The background paper is from the BasicGrey 'Mellow' collection and is mounted on a custom cut card, designed to fit inside a 'coin style' manilla envelope. The inside message reads, 'Friends of a Feather Flock Together'.

Selestina's Card

An Autumn Angel greets you on this sweet card. The paper pieced angel has lots of detail, including wings made from leaves. The inside message reads, 'To send this wish your way, For all life's blessings Today and every day!'. Another great interpretation of the sketch!

Stacy's Card

Our third new member has captured the warmth of autumn in this great card - welcome Stacy! She featured the word 'Thanks' prominently by using pop-up tabs behind each stamped tile. The message reads 'He who thanks but with the lips, Thanks but in part; The full, the true Thanksgiving, comes from the heart. - J.A. Shedd'.

Andrea's Card

What winged creature better exemplifies fall than the Turkey! Andrea closely follows the sketch using warm colored cardstock, sanded and distressed, a piece of Magic Mesh, and some brown grossgrain ribbon. Three eyelets in the left hand corner balance the design. Very nice card Andrea!

Lisa K's Card

Lisa K. used lots of detail in this fun Halloween card. Her winged creature, a bat, sits in the left hand corner and features a furry belly and seed bead eyes. The pumpkins eyes and windows of the haunted house come alive with a touch of glitter. Inside the card reads 'With thoughts of you on Halloween'. Very festive!

Jessica's Card

Jessica features a stamped image of a butterfly and sunflower colored in with warm tones and then covered with a 'crackled' glaze. The image is anchored with four eyelets. Inside, the message reads 'gentle thoughts of you'. What a lovely interpretation of the sketch and theme.

My Card

For my winged creature, I used a bird from the Crafty Secrets 'Bird Lovers' stamp set. The inside saying, 'Of course you can fly, for dreams have wings' also comes from this set. The design follows the sketch very closely and I custom cut the cards to open in the center. I used blue sequins sewn on a stamped branch to create the look of berries and added a tiny blue gem to the birds eye. The background papers are from the Chatterbox 'Together' collection available at www.ScrapBugLane.com.

I hope you enjoyed viewing all of our monthly cards. We want to take a moment to bid farewell to one our our original card swap members, Shannon, who has decided to take a break due to a hectic schedule (every mom can relate). She may be back someday, but for now we will miss her!

August Design Team Challenge

In August we started a monthly challenge with our Design Team. I know I am only a little late blogging about it - but better late then never right!! So for our August challenge we gave all our Design Team member's $10.00 to spend in the store and from that $10.00 we asked that they make at least a 2 page layout and a card. The goal was just to see how far they could really stretch their Scrapbooking dollars to get the biggest bang for the buck. Because of a few things that came up in August only 2 of our Design Team members where able to participate, Here are their projects.

The Chatterbox Together Collection is Here!

August Card Swap Photos!

Hi everybody! We are finally getting around to posting photos of all the wonderful cards from the August card swap. The challenge for August was to incorporate office supplies into the design. We also had a sketch we could follow (see below) and most of us chose to stick pretty close to it.

The sketch for our August card swap. The challenge was to incorporate office supplies and the theme was open:

Lisa K's Card (Outside and Inside)

This adorable card used staples for the office supply. Lisa K. cleverly stamped and embellished the inside to disguise the back of the staples to look like a butterfly's flight trail and the stem of a flower. A creative and beautiful result!

Selestina's Card

Bright and attractive, this card utilizes the fun colors found in the We R Memory Keepers 'Frenzy' collection. Selestina stamped the card's message 'Just a Reminder' (outside) using our bargain bin wood stick stamps. The inside message reads 'I Love You'. Selestina selected a paper clip as her office supply. The rounded piece of patterned paper actually serves as the front flap for the card. Very cute!

Andrea's Card

This cute card was made with papers from the Daisy D 'Boy' or 'Birthday' Collections - another great bargain bin find. The front 'chalk board/clip board' was made from an office supply clamp. The front reads like a check list in white and says 'Have Fun', 'Enjoy Life', and 'Be Happy' (sorry for the photo quality). Inside the card reads 'Life's truest happiness is found in friendships we make along the way'. Very nice!

Shannon's Card

Shannon's card featured a stamp of a horse and reads 'May you always win' on the outside and 'the most important races in life' on the inside. She chose ink as her office supply. A very sweet and simple card.

Jessica's Card

Jessica's tribute to office supplies not only features paper clips, but a cute stamp of a bear up to his neck in paperwork! The edge piece is from the Basic Grey 'Recess' line, and also has an office supply feel! Inside, this adorable card reads 'if you can laugh at it, you can live with it'. Very good advice from a very sweet bear!

Patti's Card

This handsome card was created using papers from the Scenic Route 'Grafton' collection. Patti used a manilla tag as her office supply and stamped it with the words 'Way to Go!", making this card simply great for almost any occasion.

Jodi's Card

Jodi designed a very fun tri-fold card for this challenge. She used papers and stamps from the Sassafrass Lass 'Sunshine Lollipop' collection. The card reads 'When life gives you lemons' on the front and 'you know what to do' on the middle section. When you open both folds, a packet of Country Time lemonade is cleverly tucked inside. Jodi used paper clips as her office supply for this very cute card.

Sally's Card

Sally selected a post-it note and paper clip for her office supplies. She stamped 'Congratulations, You Lucky Duck' on the front using an Inkadinkado stamp set, available on our site. The papers selected were from the My Mind's Eye '29th Street' Spirit Collection. Sally did a great job with this fun card!

My Card

I incorporated a bunch of different office supplies in my design, including paper reinforcements, index cards, twine, and an index tab clip. The front of the card is actually designed from a manilla envelope flap. The card reads 'Friends like you' on the outside, and 'are in short supply' on the inside.

Shipping is FREE for order $100 or more and just $5.00 for orders greater than $25.00! Smaller orders will still receive a great rate of $8.95. If you live in Hawaii there is a $10.00 surcharge that will be added to orders.

International Orders will receive a flat rate of $29.95 per order. Shipping will be via The United States Postal Service using International Priority Mail. International orders should be delivered within 6-10 days.

All of our shipments go out by United States Postal Service using priority mail 2 to 3 business day.
