Last week we discussed lighting issues and how When the Lights Go Out We Don’t Stop Scrapping. Today this is another common photo related issue but maybe one we can’t always control!

As many parents know, kids don’t often sit still. They are constantly running, jumping, dancing and flipping. Those are the cute childhood moments that parents want to remember forever.  We snap photo after photo, roll after roll and end up with…lots of blur.

I am doing better at setting my camera to capture these moments without all the blur. But kids don’t stop just so mom can get the lighting and settings right. Now that my kids are older they think it’s funny to move right at the moment I take a photo.

In this case, my kid wouldn’t even leave the garage. She insisted on spinning around in our garage. She didn’t mind that all the messy boxes, patio chairs and tools were going to be in the background of all the photos. In this moment her giggles were almost contagious. I look at this blurry photo and I can still here it…laughter.

I get asked this by scrappers and non-scrappers alike. It is a valid question with a million different answers. Every scrapbooker will have a different answer and, in fact, I have different answers depending on my mood.

The Reasons Why I Scrapbook

1. So I Can Be Creative
I’ve always enjoyed crafts, I get that from my mom. I enjoy creating something out of nothing. Like a cook who makes a gourmet meal out of a handful of ingredients. Not that I’m calling my layouts “gourmet” but I do admit that my scrapbooking talents are better than my cooking skills!

2. So I Don’t Forget
If I want to remember a memory, feeling or quote I will scrapbook it. Believe me, if I didn’t scrapbook these memories they’d be forgotten. I’ve been forgetting to buy ketchup for the past week (and The Girl is NOT happy!)

3. So I Can Learn Something New
I like to learn new things. It intrigues me to try a new technique or learn how to improve my photography skills. Whatever the subject matter I plan to keep learning.

4. So I Can Spend Time With The Girl
My 7-year-old likes scrapping. She has her own supplies and we sit and cut paper, stick some stickers and ink up a lot of stuff. It doesn’t need to be perfectly straight ~ it just needs to be fun!

5. So I Can Win
I’ll admit it. I’ve scrapbooked to win contests or get some recognition for my art. It’s human nature to want that pat on the back ~ that atta’ girl! That’s all right. It’s also all right to create a layout that meets the requirements for a contest so I can be entered to win some free prizes. I like free stuff!

I know that many scrapbookers set publishing goals for themselves. They work hard and take time submitting to contests and publication calls. Sometimes the process can be overwhelming. We can easily lose track of what supplies we used on our projects, what the deadline dates are for submitting and even what we submitted where.

Scrapbooking Daily has a few different documents to help scrapbookers stay organized and save time. The first one is to be used while you are creating your projects:

Layout Information Card

This can be printed at the landscape setting for regular letter paper and the tables cut out. The tables are sized so that when they are trimmed out they can be adhered to a 3″ x 5″ index card – one table on front of the card and one table on the back of the card. Keep the card on your desk while you create so you can fill out the information as you go along.

The fields include:
• Title of the Project
• Date:
• File Name: (Name you saved the file as on your computer or website.)
• Supplies
• Techniques
• Submitted To/Date:
• Uploaded To/Date: (This is important because often when work is published it needs to be removed from all online galleries.)

Layout Information Page

If you do not want to use index card to record your scrapbooking layout information you can use a binder. Here we have the same form on a regular letter-sized paper. There is room to keep track of two layouts per page.

Scrapbooking Layout Submission Tracker

It is also a good idea to keep track of scrapbooking calls and contests. This form is an easy way to remember what’s due where and what you submitted where. This is also designed to be printed on letter-sized paper and has room for you to punch holes on the left margin and place in a binder.
