I was so excited when I was asked to be part of the Show Some Love blog hop by Kirsten of One Tough Mother!! And then I couldn't figure out what to do! I thought and thought and finally decided to do some hand stamped coasters. Many bloggers have done these with monograms or simple images, but did you know you can color in your images? Yep, it's so cool!
*warning - this is a picture heavy tutorial*

Let's start with your supplies;
tiles 4x4 (from Home Depot or Lowes, usually less than a dollar per tile)
Staz On ink (must be Staz On, it's the only kind that really will, ya know, stay on)
Staz On ink cleaner (for cleaning the stamps, and possibly the tiles if you make a mistake)
stamps (whatever you want!)
sticky back cork (from HD or Lowes again, found with the contact paper and shelf liner stuff)
Spray can of clear sealant, in matte or gloss (your choice, although gloss takes longer to dry and is more likely to smudge the inks)

(no I don't receive any compensation for the products, this is just the best way based on my experience)

And that's it - here we go

First, wipe off your tiles. We don't want dust and dirt there when we stamp. Pick your cutest Valentine type stamp and use Staz On ink to ink it up. Then center it over your tile, and stamp.

If you make a mistake, say the stamp isn't centered or it smudged, this is when you can use the Staz On cleaner. Just dab some on the tile and then wipe it off.

Continue stamping tiles, as many as you want. A typical coaster set is 4 tiles. You can use the same stamp for all of them, or mix it up with different stamps.

Once you are done stamping, it's time to bake the tiles. This sets the ink so that it doesn't smudge or wipe off. Bake at 250 degrees for 2 hours.

Let the tiles cool. Now you can have some real fun! It's possible to color in your stamped images with Bic or Sharpie markers and have the color stay!

Here I've stamped images for the next two holidays as well. Adding color to your stamps makes them POP! Once the marker color has dried, you must bake the tiles again. Same as before, 250 degrees for 2 hours, then let them cool. Once this is done, it's time to spray them with a can of clear sealant.

Be sure to spray outside or in a well ventilated area and wear a face mask for protection. Spray one thin coat of sealant, let completely dry, then repeat for 2 more coats of the sealant. Let sit for a few hours before touching, just to let them really dry well.

Next up is the cork backing. The kind I buy comes in a roll and has lined backing paper, making it so much easier to cut. Line it up with your coaster and eyeball it, or actually measure. Guess which method I use? LOL! Once you have the square of cork cut out, peel back the liner paper and adhere to the back of the coaster.

And that's it! You're DONE! Except.....maybe not, because now you'll want to make them for all of the holidays and to give as gifts, or maybe sell.....wait, am I projecting here? Anyway, here's pictures of your finished product.

Amy, at Brandland on Etsy, created this gorgeous logo for me!! As well as my new Etsy banner and avatar, business card and letterhead. She's AMAZING! It took her less than 3 days! She was professional, timely, proactive, and talented. I would highly recommend her to anyone new out there in blogland looking for a logo + more.
The background is from thecutestblogontheblock and just matches my logo really well I think. I'm not sure.....I may change it if I can find exactly what I want. A navy blue crumpled up paper look. Or a distressed paper look.
Anywho.......what do all of YOU think?? Yea or Nay on the new logo?? (I couldn't keep my picture of the doll because I didn't have copyrights to her).

It gives me such joy to think of one of my cards making somebody smile. So there you have, a very small sampling of my work. Go to my Etsy shop to see more, all occasions, all kinds of styles. Hope you enjoy!

This one is incredibly easy to make and can double as a counter cleaner in a pinch.

You'll need;
2 cups rubbing alcohol
2 cups water
2 tablespoons vinegar
Spray bottle

Measure out ingredients and pour into spray bottle with a funnel.

If you want you can add a FEW drop of an essential oil to add a nice scent. Any more than that and the mixture could get streaky on your glass.

And here's your finished product, neatly labeled (always a must to label your home made cleaners!!);

I hope you enjoy creating this glass & window cleaner, and enjoy using it even more!
My husband and I cruised the aisles, found some great bargains, and some silly ones too. One of the great finds was this book;

My husband brought this to me with a big grin on his sweet face. "Can you use this for your recipes and cleaners"? This is why I love this man btw.

Granny's Recipes

Remedies

&

Helpful Hints

by

Jean Cross

The preface starts out with "One hundred years ago....men were men, held together with spit, glue, brine and whisky, while women were made of even sterner stuff"

I almost screeched with laughter when I read that!!! Right there in the store. Oh man that's funny stuff right there. Two sections in the book are of interest to me. Part Two - Folk remedies. I've had this nagging cough, for MONTHS! Been on antibiotics, taking cough syrups and pills and drops and on and on. Maybe Granny can recommend something better!
Part Three - Care of the House and Farm. Lots of recipes in there it looks like. Even has a section on cosmetiques....wow, thought those were against the rules one hundred years ago!
I'm vaguely interested in part one which is basically a cook book. Lots of recipes, but I'm a lousy cook. Yeah, really I am. Hubby is the feeder of the masses around here. OH, but the section in there about spiritous liquors might be great! It talks about how to make all kinds of beers and ales and liquors and then finishes off talking about "Man and Animal vs Demon Booze" Hilarious!!
And I'm definitely not interested in Part Four - Remedies for Farm Animals. No cows wandering around here at all. And Part Five - Weights and Measures doesn't do it for me either.
All in all, at $2.50 it's a good find, and if nothing else, a good laugh!

Hope you enjoyed talking about Granny's remedies with me. Have an awesome Super Bowl Sunday! GO PATRIOTS!!!! (I may live in GA now, but you can't take the Boston out of this girl, no way!)

I was so overwhelmed trying to figure out blogging and monetizing, and advertising, and plain old design issues (still am by the way!) that I was just trying to keep posts up, let alone figure out what I might have time to read.
For example - book # 1 on the list, I've been reading since late December. Barely halfway through. And I'm a fast reader! Craziness I tell ya!

Every title is a link to it's Amazon page if you are interested in any of the books. And no, I'm not getting paid for that. Wish I was!! Other than getting healthy, these books represent all of my goals for 2012. I want to improve my blog. I want to continue learning natural home cleaner recipes. I want to learn how to make cold process soap. And I want to learn some photography skills. And all of these tie into my blog somehow! I definitely have a one track mind this year. THE BLOG. I want it to be fun for my readers, informational and read-worthy. And I want to continue learning so that I can make all of that possible. Phew! That's a lot of pressure, and a lot of reading! But I can do this. Slowly, and with a lot of mistakes along the way. But I can. And I will.
I've barely seen anything about this around the web.....some, but not at all like the laundry recipes or the other cleaner recipes like my All Purpose Spray. OF COURSE I think mine are best, but who knows? I'm just prejudiced like that LOL! Orange De-greaser!! Excellent stuff!! Ok, I think I'm over the exclamation points now. Hopefully anyway.

This is an easy recipe to make, so so simple. Here's what you need;
A jug
orange peels
vinegar
time

That's it! (whoops, another exclamation point. I can't help it,, this one is so exciting).

Save your orange peels (could be any citrus but I prefer orange). Put them in a jug, and cover them with vinegar. Add more orange peels over the space of a week or more. If need be, add more vinegar to keep all the peels covered. Shake the jug every day to mix everything up.

After about 2 weeks, the smell of vinegar should be completely gone, nothing remaining but the scent of citrus. Strain the mixture to remove any last bits of pulp or membrane from the orange. Now it is ready to use!

Pour the orange liquid into a spray bottle. You can add water to fill the bottle, or more vinegar if you wish, or just leave it straight orange cleaner. Now get to cleaning!

My favorite place to hit with this is over the stove, the top of the range! ALWAYS sticky with grease. This mix cuts right through it. I keep a jug going all the time and keep it under the sink for quick refills to my spray bottle.

Thank you all for the warm wishes! Thankfully, this gave me the time to finish the bathroom. I was tired of tripping over things. I've told you guys before, I'm a horrible slob and so is my husband. Not dirty, just very cluttered. Here is the before of the bathroom;

Stuff everywhere, especially on the counter. But the floor is just as bad. Boxes moved in there from the bedroom because there was no room in the bedroom for them! Sad, sad, sad.

So, after 2 days of serious scrubbing and de-cluttering I now have this;

I promise! But with 2 chronic illnesses and a husband who travels frequently for work, I'm lucky I can get out of bed a lot of days. My bathroom is a disaster area! I clean sinks, so it's not truly nasty but the amount of stuff just seems to mount higher and higher every time I look!

Here it is...the right side

A little more of the right side...

And the left side...

STUFF! Everywhere! It's not even a matter of real cleaning, like with my homemade cleaners. It's just shuffling stuff around right now. So I decided I was OVER it! Today is the day. That was around 4pm. It's now almost 3 hours later and it looks like this...

Progress!

See that little yellow bottle - that's my Lemon Furniture Polish. I'm going to be guest posting on My Home Made Journey this Wednesday, so come visit and get the recipe!

Progress...I had to take several breaks (I just can't do too much at a time) so it's not done. But, it will be tomorrow and I will post pictures of it again. I have some plans for decorating some more, but that's about a month or so away. De-cluttering is a way of life for me. I get a room perfect, just the way I want it and then forget about it, and my boys trash it, life happens, and I have to do it all over again. Feel free to give me suggestions and links to sites that can help me, please!! Until then, just be happy this isn't your bathroom LOL.
The All Purpose Cleaner is fantastic stuff! Spray it on a crusted up mess, leave a few minutes, come back and wipe away! And with 2 boys, plus all their friends, there is ALWAYS a crusted up mess in my house. It cleans everything, countertops, surfaces, bathrooms....good stuff.
Here's how we start;
2 teaspoons Borax
1 teaspoon washing soda (not baking soda)
4 tablespoons white vinegar
1 teaspoon liquid castile soap (tea tree scent has the most antibacterial/antifungal benefits, but all of the scents will clean well)
4 cups hot water

Add Borax, washing soda and vinegar to a large spray bottle using a funnel. Add 1 cup hot water and shake well until powders are dissolved. Add remaining ingredients and shake well again. Shake before each use if necessary.

I used Dr. Bronner's liquid castile soap because I prefer the brand. I used ALmond in these photos because I love the scent. Tea Tree has the most antiviral/antibacterial/antifungal benefits but all of the scents have their own benefits.

I've used this on every surface in my home, but you might want to do a spot check of your own to be sure. Easy to make, cheap to make, and easy to use....now if only we could invent a spray that scrubbed too!

I've decided to offer you one a day! In the meantime, I will be researching new ones to add to the series. Hope you enjoy! Maybe this will make cleaning just a touch more bearable. LOL!

A good softscrub cleanser is needed for cleaning sinks and tubs. This one is also gentle enough to use on countertops as well as YOUR BODY! Use one of the softer scents such as lavender or rose castile soaps and it makes a great body scrub! It's that gentle, but still strong enough to take care of business. Bonus - it's really easy to make!

Ingredients;

3 cups baking soda

1/2 cup liquid castile soap - (I use Dr. Bronner's because it is the brand I prefer)

1/2 cup hot water

1 teaspoon glycerin - can be found at your local grocery store or online.

Directions;
In a large mixing bowl add the baking soda and all of the liquid castile soap. Then add the glycerin and hot water and mix well. No reason for this particular order, just how I did it this time.

You will end up with a thick paste somewhere between pancake mix and cake batter. If you prefer a thicker paste, add more baking soda a little at a time and mix well.

Pour into a container with a squeeze top lid, such as the ketchup bottle I used in the photos.

Use for scouring in the bathroom and kitchen. Or your body if you dare LOL! I have!

Lynn

I found a linky party that I want to join. It's at Blog Guidebook and it's about my New Year's Goals. So here they are...

Get my blog up and running.

Monetize my blog

Post at least 3 times a week.

Organize my home (again) and post about it (again)

Actively work on losing weight

Gather as many blog friends as I can, it will make life better to have more friends

There are my goals. Most are blog related because that's where I think I need to prioritize right now. As a one income family due to my illnesses, we are struggling financially. Maybe working on my blog will bring in some much needed cash. And also bring me some much needed friendship. That's an awful lot to put on one little blog, isn't it?

I've made dozens of beautiful hand made greeting cards, and only a handful have sold. What am I doing wrong?? I've joined a blogging class, but have only a handful of wonderful new followers to share for it. So, I feel sorry for myself and mope around.....BULLPUCKIES! I need to do something! Anything! I need to get some movement going on around here. Suggestions?? I'm open to pretty much anything my friends.
The display right across from it is where I usually find candlesticks and small items that I can use as crafts. But this time something else caught my eye. Creamy, fluffy madness!!!

Isn't she gorgeous?? I fell in love. My husband says "It's kind of ugly, isn't it". I almost smacked him! Nevertheless, I convinced hom to buy it for me at the whopping price of $6.96. Yeppers people, $7.00 whole dollars!!! Can you believe that? I really thought it was a little high...but I loved it so much!

Now, I get it home and I find a makers tag on it. Hmmm....maybe a little investigation is in order here.

I looked Kennebunk Weavers up online, and called them. A very nice woman named Connie said to email her pictures and she would see what she could find out. Barely 20 minutes later, I get an email. The blanket's name is "Casablanca". IT HAS A NAME?!? For real? So cool. She also told me it hadn't been made since approximately 2004-05, that it was made of mohair and cotton and that it was one of their highest end blankets. I checked out this website people. The highest end is $159.99!!! No lie, I swear. I was in shock. BTW, I ended up tweeting the company and asked that Connie be given some kudos for being so helpful, so fast.

Here's some closeups..

Ok, so now here is my dilemna, and I need all of your help. Do I keep the lovely blanket, or do I sell it to help finance my blog and Etsy business? Because we are so broke I NEED to come up with some alternate ways of getting cash for this. And IF I sell it, how much should I be looking for? It measure 52x338 and is in near perfect condition. A teeny bit stretched at the corners, where you would hold it to fold, but otherwise perfect. All opinions are welcome!

I knew what to expect this time, but after walking through the door, one of the staff, Miranda, asked if I minded speaking to a woman there for her 1st visit. I was able to calm her fears and explain that she was in good hands. Made me feel good and added a boost to my day, which is always welcome! So thanks Miranda!

Before we left, my husband took "before" pics for me. I've gotta warn you, he's a lousy photographer....
Hard to see, but the wrist has actually made quite a bit of progress. After my 1st visit it looked like small "chunks" had been lightened at a time.

The breast picture shows much more progress, if you can see it through the hubby's photography! Anyway, it's 17 years old and was never properly done to begin with. But it had been completely outlined in black......not so much anymore!

On to the actual procedure....Dr. Kulkin and his superb staff were with me. Cher held the chiller (part that cools the skin before the heat of the laser begins) while Regan handled the laser. Dr. Kulkin watched his staff proudly, and so he should. As with last time I was given special glasses and asked if I needed anything to make me comfortable. Here I am looking oh so stylish!

 This picture also shows Cher cooling the skin on my wrist. This part is VERY cold and almost stings a bit, but not quite. Next is the picture of Regan using the laser on my breast. Throughout all of this, Dr. Kulkin, Cher and Regan asked how I was doing, if anything hurt, did I need anything. Fantastic customer service!!

All done at the doctor office. Fast and painless. SO works for me!! This could easily be done during a lunch hour.

Here are the pics from 4 hours after the treatment...My wrist is slightly swollen and red, and feels itchy, but that's to be expected. It's hard to see in the pic, but there are some slight blisters and more of the N is faded.

Here is my breast tattoo picture. (Now doesn't that just sound wrong somehow?). It looks AMAZING!! The black outlining is totally gone and the red is starting to fade. (and I again re-state, it was 17 years ago and I was young and dumb).

We found the glassware at Goodwill and I knew it needed to be re purposed. So, I started making these candles. I was SOO excited, guess what I forgot to do? Yep, that's right....I forgot to take pictures of the process. I do have a finished picture though.

On the left is Sweet Pea scent, the middle is Lavender Violet and the end is Angel Wings. I think they look so amazing in the glasses. And I truly hope that someone else does too and buys them for their sweetie.

My to do list is like a mile long. My awesome hubby found a cute herbal shop that is willing to try carrying my hand made cards. But now I need to pick out the cards, make a sign to put on the display case, make up some more business cards, get the sign laminated....and that's just all related to one task. I have 9 more! How do people like HowDoesShe? and BloggyMoms (just a couple of my faves) and all the others do it?

I know once I get myself organized (major chore in and of itself) things will be better. But today, with my 16 year old T and 10 year old Bear, home from school, it's looking impossible.

NO. Not impossible. I will get this done. I will succeed at this. I will make mistakes, and I will fall down sometimes. But I will get back up and succeed. I must, because so much is depending on this. Especially my own peace of mind and belief in myself. But that's a story for another day. Keep me in your thoughts today and I'll do the same .

This is where I get to release my frustrations and get things off my chest. I have been struggling with these notes I printed off the 'net about making a banner for my etsy shop in photoshop. OMG, it's like I'm spinning in circles!!! Then I was taking pictures of cards to be put on Etsy. About 80 of them! And then editing them on the computer....while my 16 year old sat next to me insisting it could be done better and faster.....so I let him touch my laptop......and he screwed up the work I had already done!!!!!
I feel like I've been run over by a truck. But I still have to list those cards on Etsy. I still have to make my lists for tomorrow and Sunday. AND somehow figure out this damn Etsy banner! I was supposed to be making upcycled glassware into candles today, I was really looking forward to it. Oh, and start reading the Blogging for Dummies book my dear husband bought for me on his way home today.

Breathing, Breathing, Breathing.....
I can read the book as I unwind from this crazy day. I can list all of the cards tomorrow (it's not like anyone's buying any). And if I list the cards quickly enough, with NO interruptions, maybe I can make some candles in gorgeous glassware. The world is not erupting, although it feelslike it right now. All will be well. I just need to breathe. A lot. Very slowly.

Tivo is my friend!! I adore reality shows, love all of the CSI's, and teen dramas. Cooking shows are fabulous. But lately, like the last few weeks I've barely been watching any of them. I've been so focused on computer work for the blog and shop and FB page that I've ignored television. Television is an escape for me when I have nothing else to do, or I'm ignoring what I have to do. Either way, it's not really a positive for me. I doubt I'll give up tv altogether, but it's not the obsession it once was.

GIGGLE!!!! Coffee. Coffee. Coffee. Water. Extra time in the day. Sanity Breaks.

That just about covers it. Have to have my coffee (and since my BFFL bought me a keurig for Xmas it's SO easy). I drink water by the giant bottleful all day long, close to 100oz. Extra time in the day would be awesome. Because of the fibromyalgia I can only work so long before my body is just to tired. And Sanity Breaks - we ALL need those right? Just a moment here or there where you can clear your mind and think of nothing or something fun.
