No, they are dead.

Its Morgan…

Wrong Morgans…

Definitely not. Its Morgan Jones dammit

Remember way back in the series premiere, Morgan helped save Rick’s life and explained to him that the dead are now walking. So we have come full circle as Rick’s son has now knocked out Morgan just as Morgan’s son did to Rick in the beginning. Rick refuses to leave Morgan in the street to be devoured by walkers so they drag him up to his booby trapped room filled with more weapons than one man  should ever have. Carl and Michonne go off on a side mission to get a crib for Judith, but Carl has a secret mission that he does not tell his dad about. He drags Michonne to a diner and because he is still an idiot tries to go in by himself. This is where we finally see Michonne as a person and not just a zombie killing machine. She isn’t just killing zombies or stabbing the Governor in the eye, she is looking out for Carl because she knows that this is very important to him. This mission should have been a little more difficult since these walkers were sitting in this diner for at least a year just waiting for someone to come in. They should have been much more enthusiastic about eating the first humans they saw but they were no match for Michonne’s sword and Carl’s pistol. This whole thing was to get the last remaining picture of Lori so that Judith would know what her mother looked like, a very sweet thought that is almost lost as Carl drops the photo while running out of the diner….CMON KID WHAT IS WRONG WITH YOU!!!  Luckily Michonne saves the day telling Carl to stand at the door as she sneaks back in to the back of the diner. And, SURPRISE, he actually listens. Now we really get to connect with Michonne as we find out she is really into colorful cat statues. Ummm, okay.

So now we head back to Rick and Morgan. We have all wondered for a long time what had happened to Morgan, even though Rick seemed to have forgotten about him. I mean, Rick has had a lot on his plate, but he hasn’t tried to contact Morgan in a long time. Now we know that he has lost his mind. Morgan wakes and attacks Rick, stabbing him in the shoulder with a knife he had hidden under the bed. Rick calms Morgan down and restrains him again. After finally convincing Morgan that he is real, Rick tries to find out what happened to cause all of this. Morgan blames some of it on Rick because he promised he would be on the radio every morning at dawn. Rick tell him he tried but they got pushed further away. Morgan then goes into the horrible story of what started this breakdown. Rick gave Morgan a gun for him to take out his wife who as we knew from the beginning was a walker. He just couldn’t bring himself to do it. One day when Morgan came up from the cellar with food, he sees his son, Duane, pointing the gun at his mother. As he calls out to his son, distracting him, his mother pounces on Duane. Morgan shoots her but it is too late as his son will now turn. He knows he could have prevented this from happening and couldn’t forgive himself. This could be one of the best scenes of the series and all we saw was Morgan telling the story. We know this could have happened to anyone on the show and I would wonder how anyone would handle this  situation. Would any of us be able to easily kill a loved one even if we knew they were already dead. Rick offers to take Morgan with them back to the prison. Morgan then continues with another brilliant and crazed rant,saying that strong people like Rick and even his son will die, while the weak like Morgan have inherited the Earth. I believe this meeting with Morgan was an awakening for Rick. This could easily have been Rick who slipped into insanity. If he had not been helped by Morgan and eventually found his family Rick could be sitting in his home setting traps and writing on the walls. Rick was slowly slipping down this road now that he lost Lori and has all the pressures of leading this group that has become his new family. I believe seeing this image of what could have been or could be will give Rick a good kick in the right direction.

Finally two more important things to end the episode. First, we have Rick “accepting” Michonne as they bond over their insanity with Michonne sharing that she would talk to her dead boyfriend and Carl telling his dad that Michonne is ok. Then, on the trip back they pass the backpack of the survivor that they left at the beginning of the show. It appears they left him to die. No words are spoken again, but they do pick up his backpack.

I would have to say this is one of my favorite episodes of the series so far. There is a calm before the storm feel to this episode. There is the quick shootout with Morgan and the rush through the diner by Michonne and Carl, but there is no big assault on the prison or a raid on Woodbury. This episode is  more mental.I think the fact that we only saw Morgan telling the story of Duane being turned and not the actual image of it made it much more effective. The entire scene between Rick and Morgan was simply amazing. Morgan was rambling like a crazy person but making complete sense to Rick. This is a huge turning point in the season and this all happened without most of the cast appearing.

If this is true than this would be quite a powerhouse because of Nolan and Bale’s name being attached to it and making it a player against Disney’s Avengers.
