New ML sign-ups are open!

Hey Frenzy folks!

Do you love organization, encouragement, and scriptwriting? Well, we all love scriptwriting... but if you're also a goal-setting go-getter with a knack for coordinating events, you'd probably make a great Municipal Liaison (ML)!

You can learn more about the post and see which regions are already covered on the Municipal Liaison page.

Don't see your region listed? Check out the full list of Script Frenzy regions here.

Still interested?

Magnificent!

Fill out the New ML form and I'll be in touch with you soon after. (If you get a validation error, that usually means that tons of other folks had the same idea as you and are trying to submit the form. Give it a minute, or a few, and then try again!)

If you were a Municipal Liaison in 2009 and accidentally missed the deadline for re-upping, be sure to let Lindsey, the Community Liaison, know ASAP: lindsey[underscore]grant[at]scriptfrenzy[dot]org

Hooray for volunteers! And hooray for you!

Returning Municipal Liaison sign-ups closing soon!

If you were an ML in 2009 and you're ready for more scripty cheerleading, be sure to sign up before the form closes on January 31!

Interested in becoming one of these fabled Municipal Liaisons? Sign-ups for first-time MLs will be up on the Municipal Liaisons page by February 2!

The only thing we at Script Frenzy love as much as scripts are volunteers. And popcorn. (Especially the home-made kind.)*

*The staff of Script Frenzy would like to note that Lindsey has an unhealthy obsession with popcorn. While we at Script Frenzy do love scripts and volunteers, we wish to distance ourselves from any endorsements or statements made in the above Beat about said comestible.

Happy New Year!

I hope the new decade has launched with a bang for you!

As you're planning all the awesomeness ahead, be sure to set time aside to write your script with us! April 1 is just 75 days away.

75!

Here's a handy checklist for your April scriptwriting attack plan:

Read. Read as many examples of whatever type of script you are going to write as possible.

Watch. Scripts are just the first part of the whole production process, so get out there and watch movies, plays, and TV shows in your genre. If you're writing a bunch of shorts, find your local film festival and attend screenings. And, if you're in the comic/graphic novel arena, read with a sharp eye for details.

Talk. Tell your friends what your premise is and get their feedback. This is so helpful in eliminating bad ideas and finding the brilliant ones before you've spent an entire month writing something you won't be happy with.

Outline. Once you've reviewed and weighed your friends' feedback, start outlining! It is never too early to start thinking in acts, character motivations, and story arcs.

Gather. The more the merrier! It has been proven in 100% non-scientific studies done by us here in the office that having a group to write with keeps you writing! When you're held accountable by your peers, we have found that win-rates skyrocket.

Happy New Year!

I hope you had a great time ringing in 2010 last week!

As of right now, there are just 84 days until we can all pick up our pencils and start slamming through 100 pages.

This year I've also decided to outline my script. In past years I have said I was going to and told other people to do it, but haven't actually gotten it done. Now that we're in a new decade, I'm feeling like this will be the year that I actually do it.

Join me! Outline! Develop major characters. Develop minor characters. Break down the plot. Read as many scripts as possible. And, get your friends to join you! Win rates are higher when you've got a friend or two by your side.

In the next weeks we'll be working away to

Scriptwriting Questions?

Hi Writers!

It is (finally!) that time of year. Somewhere between Thanksgiving and New Year's Eve, I return to the land of Script Frenzy.

I'm on the hunt for Cameo contributors and want to know what questions you have.

Post your questions here:
http://tinyurl.com/yfx4xdr

(You can find past Cameos in our Writer's Resources.)

It is so lovely to be back! The planning. The plotting. I miss it so much after the April Fade Out.

Cheers,

Hey there!

I wanted to let you know about a play from Shotgun Players called The Farm. If you are in the San Francisco Bay Area, find time to check it out!

Shotgun Players Website

Jon Tracy spins out an adaptation of George Orwell's Animal Farm, and I was amazed at the interpretation.

Blake Snyder Passes Away‎

Blake Snyder 1957-2009

Script Frenzy is sad to report that on Tuesday, August 4, Blake Snyder passed away.

Snyder, candid author of Save the Cat!, Save the Cat! Goes to the Movies, and not-yet-available Save the Cat Strikes Back, shared his formula for successful screenplays through his books, workshops, and blog. He offered new and seasoned scribes succinct advice that helped guide the creative process of storytelling.

Blake generously donated his time to Script Frenzy scribes during 2008 when he penned the Cameo Midpoint—The Key to Cracking Any Story.

His fresh approach to craft was exceedingly helpful to me as I developed my first

The San Francisco 3-Minute Film Festival Begins Today!

Seven years ago, the Office of Letters and Light Executive Director and NaNoWriMo founder Chris Baty created another high-velocity challenge: the 3-minute Film Festival.

Participants have the month of July to make a film that runs three minutes or less. The film must be submitted by July 31, and it's then screened at a black-tie gala on August 8!

Chris passed the reigns to Camille Verboort six years ago, and the contest lives on. Don't wait another second! July 1 is the day to start your three-minute adventure!

I know, it's sad. The insane Script Frenzy merchandise sale is over.

But don't worry. Chris Baty, our Executive Director, just got back from his three-month trip to Australia with a sack full of Australian sweet treats.

What does this have to do with the store you might ask? How can Chris' big bag of candies alleviate the pain you currently may feel from missing the $10-travel-mug extravaganza?

In the next week, we'll choose one order at random to receive some marsupial-themed chocolates from Down Under.

Have fun playing the chocolate lottery,
