Saul begins to resent David, after the young upstart starts one-upping him. People seem more inclined to follow David than the (now-denounced-by-God) king, so the king is super bitter about it. He even tries to kill him a couple times with a spear, but David somehow evades him. David is also becoming besties with Saul’s son, so that complicates things further…
