Grants of £50,000 or more are available from the Catchment Restoration Fund which will provide up to £10 million each year for projects to be delivered in 2012/13, 2013/14 and 2014/15.

The Environment Agency is looking to support projects to reduce the pollution that comes from the way land is used and improve the landscape through which water flows. Projects should support one of the following aims:
  • Restore more natural features in and around waters.
  • Reduce the impact of man-made structures on wildlife in waters.
  • Reduce the impact of small, spread-out (diffuse) sources of pollution that arise from rural and urban land use.
Projects can be funded for multiple years, but these will need to be structured for phased completion, and have specific delivery milestones within each financial year.

The lead applicant for funding must be a charity or an organisation with charitable, benevolent or philanthropic purposes under the Charities Act 2006. Organisations that do not meet this criteria, such as local authorities or private sector companies, can still be involved in delivering a project, but only as partners.

The Round One deadline for projects starting in 2012/13 is 29 February 2012.

Organisations with project ideas that are not yet fully developed at this stage can submit an Expression of Interest form rather than a full application. An application for funding in 2012/13 can still be made as a second application window will be open between 16 April 2012 and 18 May 2012.

We've recieved this press release. Looks like a very exciting initiative.

Dismayed by Shropshire Council’s decision to stop kerbside collections of cardboard, Shrewsbury community groups are setting up their own collection system and are asking residents to help.

“Hang on to your cardboard if you have the space.  We can sell it to raise money   -   turning our waste into a Christmas present for the Severn Hospice and Hope House” says  Ali Thomas   spokesperson for the Cardboard Christmas Group, made up so far of  Shrewsbury Friends of the Earth, Transition Town Shrewsbury,  the Ecumenical Green Group,  and Trinity Church, Meole Brace.

Cardboard Christmas have asked Cwm Harry a social enterprise specialising in waste to help set up the scheme.  

Adam Kennerley CEO of Cwm Harry says “There are some practical issues that need to be sorted out, but with the support of the town it should be possible to collect card from people’s garages, cover the cost of collection and raise money for good causes.“ 

Anyone who could collect and store cardboard for their street or who is part of a group that would like to get involved is invited to a meeting on Monday 5th December, from 1900hrs - 2100hrs at the Hobbs Room, Shrewsbury Library.

Reviive is embarking on another stage of its development.

The upcycle department requires someone who, initially under guidance, can bring design/creative/artistic abilities along with strong organisational skills to the ii development department.

The role involves upcycling furniture via painting and decals, using spray paints and vinyl cutter, developing a unique style. The design of a piece of furniture using recycled wood (we have a specific design in mind) for production. Organising the department with input to iisales of finished pieces.
