Seven new Christmas ornament designs.

In stewarding the Scroll Saw Workshop, the number one request has been that we carry on Steve's tradition of Christmas ornaments with personalized names. We have been able to read some of your stories of cutting name ornaments for children, grandchildren, parents, friends. Steve has been a good friend of my father, Stephen, who owns Bear Woods for many years. Thank you for giving us this opportunity to carry the torch, one Christmas ornament at a time.

I made the reindeer, angel, and bauble ornaments myself, and our amazing Lia from Parker Place Woodworking helped designed the Santa Scroller and dog and cat ornaments. New Pattern Alert! Mallard Duck Pattern by Scott McKenna

We've seen and heard the requests for new patterns like Steve. Well, the Mallard Duck pattern, designed and graciously shared by Scott McKenna is live on the archive! Scott is a talented scroll saw and fine artist and it is a pleasure to see his work and share this beautiful pattern. Even better, it is duck season! What a fitting time for a duck pattern.

When I first started working with a scroll saw, I turned to where so many others did… Steve Good’s Scrollsaw Workshop. His patterns taught me so much with a scroll saw. Now, my background was in fine art, not woodworking, so pattern designing was something that really peaked my interest. Drawing a viable design with no ‘floating’ parts is an exciting challenge…

Personally, I favor fretwork. Complex designs with numerous, small cutouts. So naturally, a lot of my designs reflect that. I’m constantly trying to challenge myself.

My bread and butter is Pegas spiral blades. Most of my designs have that in mind. It reminds me of drawing with a pen, able to easily move in every direction.

Ducks are my favorite animal. If you follow me, you’ll see a lot of duck themed art. For this pattern of a mallard duck, I’d likely use a size #1 Pegas spiral blades.

Bauble Bobble Babble - 3D Affect Christmas Ornament

There are some big questions we never really get answers to. Like:

What if someone made a bobble head that was six feet high, would it feel like it is going to attack if you turn your back to it? Or would seventy-three six inch bobble heads with Christmas baubles as their heads be scarier, even if they can't move? That is a lot of bobble bauble.

Well, I doubt we'll ever get an answer to that big bobble question, but enough bobble bauble babble and onto cutting some fun Christmas baubles with this new 3D affect bauble ornament scroll saw pattern!

This is a two-piece pattern. The front and backer can be cut separately then glued together. Paint the back a different colour than the front or use two different tone woods for a 3-D affect!

Fun Historical Fact!

The abbreviation “X-Mas” dates back to the early church. The “X” comes from the Greek letter “X” or in English spelling “chi”, which is the first letter in the Greek word for Christ. In the English alphabet Christós or in the Greek Χριστός.

Thus X became an abbreviation for Christ, and as early as the 1100-1500’s, variations of X-Mas are documented being used as abbreviations for “Christmas” which comes from the words “Christ” and “Mass”.

Sweetly scrolling o'er the planes (of wood!) Angel Ornament!

Angels we have heard on high, sweetly scrolling o'er the plains (of wood!)

Just like the reindeer pattern, there are several versions! Merry, Bright, Blank Spot, X-Mas, and 2026 options!

You could even cut just around the outside (and the halo for the hanger) and wood burn or paint on the details. Or if you just want an angel, don't cut out the space for the word, leave it as one piece!

Before you ask, YES, this pattern, like the others we are releasing, WILL have a custom name option. It will just look slightly different than this version in order to allow the custom names. Blades to Cut Ornaments

To reduce sanding needs as you cut your ornaments, try Modified Geometry Blades! These are the most popular Pegas blade by far, and the reverse teeth at the underside of the blade clean up the back side of your cuts as you scroll.

Christmas Ornament Patterns 2026!!!

First up, Rudy the Reindeer!

Hello Scroll Saw Workshop! This is Julia from Bear Woods. Since Bear Woods has taken on stewardship of the Scroll Saw Workshop, the #1 request has been for new patterns. Our response: We are working on it behind the scenes.

Well, you've been asking about Christmas ornaments more than any other pattern and we are SO excited to announce brand-new 2026 Christmas ornament patterns!

Steve's Christmas Ornaments are some of the favorites every year, and we have been able to come up with some new patterns for 2026.

Rudy the Reindeer - Free Pattern Download!

And before you ask, YES, all the ornament patterns will have an option for custom names, just like Steve has done.

The first pattern is Rudy the Reindeer. I drew this one myself, so I hope you enjoy it! I have a little stuffed reindeer I knitted a scarf for in high school who lives on my book case. I was trying to think of what pattern I could make for the Scroll Saw Workshop, and saw my Rudy Reindeer. He always makes me smile, so I tried my hand at drawing him for an ornament. Then my brother Isaac scrolled Rudy for me as a demo! (Yes, you will be able to put custom names in the reindeer ornament and the other ornaments we are releasing!)

We just got in the Mascot benchtop mini drill press at Bear Woods and Isaac used it to drill the pilot holes for Rudy the Reindeer. It is so cute and takes up such a small foot print in the shop. For small pilot holes, we have micro drill bits and micro drill bit adapters for any drill or rotary tool.

While drilling the pilot holes in Rudy, Isaac and I made a Little Drill Press parody for fun! Do enjoy our sibling sing-along.

We used a random piece of wood we had and the new Mascot Heat Transfer Tool to transfer the pattern from the regular piece of printer paper right onto the wood. (Video demo coming soon!)

Then Isaac cut out Rudy the Reindeer on the scroll saw. In the Bear Woods workshop, we have the Pegas 21" Scroll Saw and Isaac has put a LOT of hours on it since we got it back in 2019. He used Modified Geometry #3 blades so the reverse teeth on the back side of the blade would clean up the underside of the cuts and reduce sanding since we were using a random, fairly splintery piece of wood we found sitting around in the shop.

One of my favorite parts of the Reindeer pattern is there are several options. There will, of course, be the custom name option, but we also will have options some general holiday options, with and without the year:

We will be releasing the free Christmas ornament patterns without custom names first, and within the week will release the custom name option along with instructions. Please note there is a small charge for custom name patterns!

Our Rudy came out very cute! He needs a little sanding and I think I might shape him with our Marathon Rotary Tool to give him a little extra something. He is going to look so cute on our tree this year! We were also thinking, the ornaments would look so cool if you just cut around the outside, no inside cuts, and then wood burned all the details / words. You could mix mediums even further with some colour! Lots of wood burner / accessory options available at Bear Woods!

My dad, Stephen, who was good friends with Steve, suggested mentioning at least 5 times that the custom name ornaments will be available very soon. I managed to mention it 7 times, so dad, if you're reading this, I think I did good.

Deer Family Silhouette Pattern

When we think of the Scroll Saw workshop, we first think of Steve. It’s his blog, his passion, after all. One of the pleasures in preserving Steve’s legacy has been seeing just how far his impact extends. Pepi from France wrote in about how because of Steve, she had a job she could do with her disability. Barbara wrote in from South Africa. Richard started a group of scrollers in England. Steve was from Indiana, USA, but like a stone tossed in a still lake, the ripples of his dedication, teaching, and care still radiate outward.

I am a 69-year-old woman with a disability, and of course, it is thanks to Steve that I have my job. I found Steve Good’s site after my husband gave me a scroll saw. When I asked him why, his answer was, “You are always fiddling with wood”. When I asked him, “What do I do with this?” he said, “Go to the internet and look there”.

The best thing he could have done.

The first thing I saw was a site for free, Steve Good’s, and we were not in the position to spend too much money. It was my privilege to make inventions to my husband sisters wedding for everyone at the wedding.

I would just like to share the impact Steve has had on me and some of my friends. I bought a scroll saw with the idea of cutting some jigsaws with family photos on them. At the time of buying the saw, I had no idea of the potential the saw had. When set the saw up in my workshop, I looked on YouTube for tips on using the saw and of course came across some of Steve. This opened a whole new world for me in England. Scroll sawing is not as popular as in the US. After a while and following many of Steve's patterns, I joined a local Men in Sheds group, which was just starting up. When I started talking about scroll sawing, no one understood what I was talking about. I showed them some of the items I had made and Steve's great work. Now we had have small group of us that speak of little else. It was a sad day when Steve past away and between us we had a short silence to remember Steve and he is still in our thought now.

One of the top questions we receive at Bear Woods is:

Which scroll saw blades should I choose?

Our simplest possible answer is this: Pegas Modified Geometry blades are consistently the most popular and most frequently repurchased blades.

What that doesn't account for is which of the 7 Modified Geometry blade sizes will work best and why another tooth configuration might be preferred in certain situations.

Choose a blade with a higher number and lower TPI (teeth per inch). The blade will have less teeth overall, but the teeth will be larger.

Thinner Materials

Choose a blade with a lower number and higher TPI. The blade will have more, smaller teeth overall.

The lower the number, the thinner the blade.

Tip: If you are using blades that are too thin for the material you are cutting, you will likely see more blade breakage.

Certain blade styles are better for each individual wood / material classification. The blade selection chart on our website details the suitability of blade style and number vs material & material thickness.

3. How thin/tight do the cut lines need to be?

Thinner blades and spirals allow for tighter, more intricate cuts. Cut lines themselves are important when making puzzles or intarsia pieces. For these types of projects, you want next to not cut lines showing.

The technical blade selection chart on our website outlines how thin cut lines will be and how intricate the blades will cut. A simplified version of the technical sheet with the most popular Pegas blades can be found at the end of this document.

4. Flat or spiral, regular or pinned?

Flat Blades

Flat blades are the most popular scroll saw blade type. All the teeth are lined up on one side. The scroller turns the wood to follow the pattern and always pushes forward to cut. (The above image is an example of flat blades).

Spiral Blades

Spiral Blades have teeth around 360° of these blades allowing them to cut in every direction. The work does not have to be turned to make cuts which allows sharp inside corners to be created. This also allows working longer pieces which typically can't be turned on a 16" or 21" scroll saw. Tip: If you are using blades that are too thin for the material you are cutting, you will likely see more blade breakage. (See image below for a close-up of spiral blades!)

Pinned End Blades

Pinned end blades have good performance for use with 15" and 16" power scroll saws such as Sears Craftsman, Delta, and Ryobi. Most scroll saws take plain or flat end blades, though some models take 5" or 3" pinned end blades. Choosing pinned end blades is different than flat end, TPI and wood thickness recommendations being the most important factors. Pinned blade specs based on dimensions where flat blades are based on numbers.

Note: Pinned blades are not available with a spiral tooth configuration. To use spiral blades with your pinned blade saw, look into a flat blade adapter kit (available very soon from Bear Woods).

We asked the Scroll Saw Workshop community to share about how Steve Good's blog and patterns have impacted you. Carl Posz wrote in and shared his story about his journey with the scroll saw and the impact the Scroll Saw Workshop and the blog has had. From little jokes to charity work, Carl's story is an example of what Steve's blog, the scroll saw, is to so many.

Hello Scroll Saw Workshop & Bear Woods team,

It's wonderful to hear that the legacy of Steve Good now has a new home at Bear Woods. I started my Scroll Saw journey in 2008 after I got frustrated making Christmas projects on my Band saw. While I was in one of our local Minnesota woodworking stores I heard about Scroll Saws and bought a Dewalt DW788. In November of 2024 I upgraded to the 21" Pegas saw. I had multiple opportunities to try a variety of high end saws but decided on the Pegas.

I started buying pattern books and making a lot of Christmas ornaments and projects. At first BIG fret work, eventually working to more and more detailed projects. I heard about Steve Good when I joined the Northstar Scrollers, a Minnesota Twin Cities Scroll saw group, in early 2020. I'm not sure but I probably have made over 30-40 different patterns of Steve's. Most of them as gifts to friends and family. I started subscribing to Steve's daily blog (daily!!! Amazing) in January of 2021.

I'm attaching a few pictures, just the ones with stories behind them.

One of the 1st patterns I made was the Phone Stand (image below). I mean, who doesn't sit at the kitchen table with their phone? My first was right out of Steve's pattern with the single letter "C" on the 2019 Phone Stand Pattern. Steve, in his blog often talked about the tools he used to make the patterns. He used CorelDraw, but talked about Inkscape, a free vector graphics tools. He put out some video tutorials on how to make stencil fonts. I then started making the phone stand with people's names on them instead of just the single letter. I have probably made 20-30 of these alone. In 2022 I saw the Octo-Basket with 4 different patterns for the sides Octo Basket Pattern and I pulled that pattern into Inkscape along with the phone stand and then merged those patterns into the stand (second photo below).

I love the boxes Steve created for blade storage. I've made several "2023 Scroll Saw blade storage" pieces.

Another Inkscape project was I had some live edge wood and took his pattern "Roses and Hummers" rose and humming bird pattern, and modified it to fit on the live edge wood.

The 2021 Cuddling Cats has often been one of the most requested patterns to make for someone.

Steve, on more than one occasion, would talk about how his humor was sometimes not appreciated by his wife Patty. Well, I found out the same thing at home when I made "2023 Best Seat in the House Pattern" I thought it was hilarious. Once I finished it I put it in our basement bathroom next to the toilet for when my football buddies would come over to my place. Well, a month or so latter my son was over visiting and he told me "Mom doesn't like that Scroll saw piece in the basement bathroom". She had never said a thing to me about it. Okay, I removed it from the bathroom. It sat in my office for a few months and when the Northstar Scrollers had an opportunity to sell at a church holiday fair. We all made pieces to sell and proceeds went to the group. I brought my "Best Seat in the House" to the sale thinking it wouldn't be sold. Well a mother came in and bought it to give to her son for his office. He was a colorectal surgeon.

A little about the The Northstar Scrollers. While our mission is 'to develop interest in and increase knowledge of scroll sawing', including the techniques of intarsia, fretwork, marquetry, pyrography as well as a variety of related crafts. During the meeting we have a program. In March of 2023 Steve presented to the group. When we offered to pay him he refused. In return, at the end of the presentation, he raffled off multiple very nice gifts. Amazing.

One of the other things the group is involved with is making toys and paintable's for a local organization called TLC Toys | Tender Loving Care Toys. In fact, outside a few volunteers at the TLC warehouse, Northstar Scrollers is the only other group cutting these patterns. They provide us with wood and then we cut them. Many of the patterns we cut have been modified patterns of Steve's (with his permission). TLC toys take the projects we cut and donate them to a variety of non-profit organizations as well as Police and Fire Departments. A lot of other people have benefited from these Steve Good patterns.

When Steve Turned an Idea Into a Pattern

Not every reader who wrote to Steve could draw a pattern, but they often knew exactly what they needed. Steve listened to those ideas and used his own ability to give them a physical form that others could build.

In January 2024, Jarva Dodge suggested a rack for drying wet winter gloves. On January 19, Steve shared the finished pattern—a practical stand that holds two pairs of gloves over a floor vent so warm air can pass through, drying and warming them for the next trip outside.

Jarva recently wrote to us about that exchange:

In January 2024, I asked him about an idea for a winter glove-drying rack, and he made it into a pattern for us subscribers on January 19, 2024. I miss Steve a lot and learned of his work in 2014. Thank you for continuing his site and work.

This small exchange captures something Steve did again and again. He listened, replied, and used his skills to carry someone else’s idea the rest of the way. The result was a reader who felt heard and a useful project that the entire Scroll Saw Workshop community could enjoy.

“On this 15th anniversary of the terrible event that changed the world.
Never forget the almost 3,000 victims who lost their lives.
Never forget the 6,000 plus victims who were injured.
Never forget the hundreds of first responders who risked and lost their lives to help save so many.
Never forget the nurses, hospital staff and doctors who worked through the weeks to help survivors.
Never forget the thousands who still suffer health effects from the exposure at ground zero.

If you are old enough to remember September 11, 2001, the day is probably burned into your mind forever. Of course we will never forget. Will we?

It's not hate, it's resolve.
It's not anger, it's determination.
It's not revenge, it's justice.
It's not forgotten, it's remembered!

When I sat down to do this pattern tonight I had all these ideas of elaborate designs, graphics and slogans. It dawned on me that none of that mattered. It needed to be very simple. It's the meaning behind the pattern that matters. Anything more adds no more value to that meaning.

At 8:45am Eastern time on Sunday September 11th 2016 I will pause and take a few minutes to pay my respects to the victims and honor the heroes of that day.

A Workshop That Started with Steve

Steve made the scroll saw feel approachable by giving beginners the patterns, instruction, and encouragement they needed to try. Craig’s story shows how one video and an inexpensive first saw grew into seven years of scrolling, tubs of finished projects, and a complete woodworking shop.

Here is Craig’s story:

I was scrolling the internet one day and looking at something on Etsy when I ran across a design Steve had put out there. I didn’t own any woodworking tools at that time.

I clicked on one of his videos on how to use the scroll saw, and I said, “I am going to try.” I bought a cheap one at Harbor Freight and realized I could do this—and it was fun. I went and bought a DeWalt seven years ago and have been scrolling Steve’s patterns and other designs from the web. I have tubs and tubs of finished products. I usually hand projects out as gifts to friends, family, and coworkers.

It was Steve and his website that got me going, and I appreciate all of his teachings and patterns. Super nice guy.

I buy all my blades from Bear Woods and bought my Marathon rotary from them. Now I have a complete woodworking shop that all started with Steve.

The People Behind the Patterns

On this day ten years ago, Steve Good released a new dragon pattern. But when he sat down to write that day’s blog post, the pattern was not what he focused on. Instead, he shared an email and video from a 16-year-old scroller named Logan McEniry.

The patterns Steve created were free, but the work brought its own kind of return. Readers wrote to him, shared their finished projects, asked questions, and invited him into their workshops through photographs and videos. Seeing someone learn, gain confidence, and carry the hobby forward was what made the work worthwhile for Steve.

That is what makes this post such a unique tribute. Long before we began trying to put Steve’s impact into words, he had already shown us how he measured it. The patterns may have opened the door, but the people who downloaded them, made them, and shared what they learned were always at the heart of the Scroll Saw Workshop.

Working on this blog makes me happy. Every once in a while I am reminded why it makes me so happy. Today I received an email from a 16 year old reader named Logan McEniry. Steve's Impact Reached Many People & Places

Steve had a way of telling the truth about the work—and about himself—that built a quiet trust between him and his readers. His observations were often simple and offered with humor, yet they carried a gentle invitation: to look honestly at our own work, accept where we were, and keep going.

Steve understood that growth required patience, perseverance, humility, and practice. Somehow, he tucked those lessons into each blog post and pattern without ever making them feel like lessons at all.

"Steve was my first point of contact when I was beginning in this craft. His honesty and integrity were on full display every time I got to hear Steve’s thoughts and comments. I would like to thank him for all he gave to me. Through his words I learned and became more confident in his projects. Never asking for anything but, “ don’t sell my patterns “lol. He became my trusted source and although we never met…a trusted friend. Steve had no way of knowing how much he influenced me and how his words still echo in my mind today. With tears in my eyes I still can’t believe my friend, who I never met, is really gone.

I have received lots of praise for projects that Steve designed. He taught me patience and perseverance, both things I have taught my son as Steve taught me. A Pattern That Cost Nothing

We live in a world where subscriptions have begun to replace ownership and nearly everything sits behind a paywall. Steve Good chose a different way. He understood that making a pattern free did not make it less valuable. Sometimes, it gave that pattern the opportunity to become far more valuable than anyone could have imagined. Steve could not have known everywhere his patterns would go or everything they would accomplish, but somehow he understood that their value extended far beyond the finished piece coming off the scroll saw. Todd’s story is a beautiful example of that truth. A pattern that cost him nothing became something you could never put a price on.

In a Time of Need - Todd Martin

"About 10 years ago, I was unexpectedly laid off from my job. It took several months to find another position, and during that time, unemployment benefits weren’t enough to cover all of our bills and financial obligations.

I was fairly new to the Scroll Saw Workshop at the time and happened to come across the little Nativity box Steve had designed. It was fall, Christmas was just around the corner, and I decided to give it a try.

I went out to my shop, made six of the Nativity boxes, and listed them on Etsy. To my surprise, they sold within two days. So I made six more—and those sold quickly too. I continued making and selling those boxes while I searched for work.

The money I earned from those Nativity boxes was enough to make up the difference between my unemployment benefits and the bills we needed to pay. Something that may have seemed like a simple scroll saw pattern ended up helping keep my family afloat during one of the most difficult periods of our lives.

At the time, I wrote Steve an email to thank him for everything he did and to share my story. I never expected to hear back. I figured he probably received hundreds of emails and simply wouldn’t have the time to respond.

To my surprise, the very next day I received an email from Steve. He thanked me for sharing my story and offered some kind and encouraging words to keep going. I’ve never forgotten that.

Even after all these years, I’m still incredibly grateful for Steve and the Scroll Saw Workshop. What he created and so freely shared became much more than a woodworking pattern for me. At a time when my family really needed some help, it gave me a way to use my hands, earn some extra money, and get us through a difficult season.

I will always be thankful for that."

Hello Scrollsaw Workshop!

Julia Dinesen here from Bear Woods Supply Company. After a lot of talk and planning with Steve Good's wonderful family, Bear Woods will be facilitating the continuation of Steve's blog. With this, it is my privilege to share my family's story and what Steve Good, the Scroll Saw Workshop, and the scroll saw community mean to us.

Bear Woods started in 1987, but my family's journey with the company and the scroll saw began in 2015. My dad, coincidentally also named Stephen, was looking for a new business venture. Our family had walked through a hard few years and he was ready for something new. The couple who had run Bear Woods since 1987 was looking to retire, and the fit was perfect. Well, except for the little fact that we knew nothing about woodworking. Or literally any of the products. But hey, it can't be that hard to learn, right?

The picture below shows our family in 2016. My siblings, from left to right, are Elijah, Evalyn, and Isaac. I was just fourteen at the time, and our little Evalyn only six! The second photo is our family all grown up, Christmas 2025. Fun fact, my first real job was editing the website listings for boxes of dowel rods!

Well, it turns out, when you have quite literally thousands of products, there is a lot to learn. And learn we did. Most things weren't too hard to figure out. 2" x 2" cube? Those stack. They are made out of hard maple. Little wood turned trees? Not sure what they are being used for, but that's straight forward enough. Clock hands? Clock mechanisms? Tell me your clock face diameter and dial thickness and we can advise your socks off. Then my dad, Stephen, encountered Pegas Scroll Saw Blades on the shelves of his new barn-turned-warehouse.

Bear Woods Family - The Family History of Bear Woods:

If you've been around the Bear Woods ecosystem, you've heard us talk (endlessly) about Pegas blades (because they are awesome). But, in 2015, my dad didn't know what they were for. His first thought was that they were some kind of jigsaw blade. (I'll pause to let you laugh for a moment.) He had never seen a scroll saw before. He quickly realized they weren't jigsaw blades, but that still left a lot of questions. The founder of Bear Woods Supply told my dad these Pegas blades are great, originally for making jewelry. So he looked for some teaching material to help him figure out what these blades can do and found this very blog, run by the one and only, the master himself, Steve Good.

My dad called, and Steve picked up. They chatted, and my dad sent him some Pegas blades to try. At this point, Steve had heard of Pegas and had not yet tried them. Steve called back and said the Pegas blades are great. He told people about them, on this very blog, and almost overnight the community wanted to try Pegas blades - because Steve said so. Wow. We had never worked with an "influencer" before. But Steve wasn't that - he was passionate about his work and the community — having quality tools and supplies mattered to Steve.

Stephen and Steve became good friends. So many times my dad, Stephen, would tell me he just got off the phone with Steve. Talking about family, scrolling, the blog. Steve’s readers meant everything to him. The emails, the comments, the opportunity to make custom ornaments - it all mattered to Steve. He was as genuine as they come. He was excited about the new things coming - it mattered to him that the scroll saw community grows and remains vibrant. Millions of downloads, endless email responses, and a genuine commitment to helping all of us learn and grow with the most accessible, versatile power tool: the scroll saw.

In high school shop class my brother Isaac heard about the scroll saw for the first time. Starting with some of Steve's basic patterns and working his way up, my brother spent countless hours on first a cheap second hand saw and then the shiny new Pegas when it came out. Steve was an inspiration and Isaac has become an incredible woodworker in his own right. My grandma still has the Jesus fish my little sister scrolled when she was only eight years old sitting on her bookcase, given to my grandpa not long before he passed. One of Steve's patterns.

So, what now. Well, we want to continue this blog, Steve's legacy, in a way that honours him - by talking all things scroll saw: blog posts, patterns new and old, tool reviews and suggestions, tips & tricks & how-to's.

The word our team is focusing on is stewardship. As many of you know, Steve was a strong Christian. Biblically, stewardship is being entrusted with the continuation and growth of something you have not necessarily earned. The heart of the Scrollsaw Workshop is Steve and his love of the scroll saw and people in this community. Our goal is to continue the blog in a way that reflects the passion and love Steve had for the scroll saw and woodworking community. Our heart is to continue and build upon his legacy and give back to the community.

My family's story, Bear Woods's story, Steve Good's story, is why carrying on the Scroll Saw Workshop with the utmost integrity and value is an honour we will steward wisely. Everyone who has ever read Steve's blog, learned from him, cut one of his patterns, is part of a tapestry of connection and a beautiful craft. Working with our hands is important. Hobbies are important. Helping people learn and grow and love something that brings them joy—for no other reason than to share knowledge and one's own love of the craft—is fulfilling. Steve Good lived a life of integrity and passion for his craft. Because of Steve's story, because of what he did for you, for scrollers, and scrollers yet to come, join us in continuing the legacy of a Husband, Father, Friend, Advocate, and a Shining example of what it means to give to the community.

Steve, we miss you, and we hope that you'll be proud.

The Workshop Steve Built

To the Scroll Saw Workshop community,

We are the team at Bear Wood Supply Company, and we are deeply honored to have been entrusted by Mrs. Patty with the care of the Scroll Saw Workshop.

Steve Good built far more than a collection of scroll saw patterns. Through years of sharing his knowledge freely and showing up faithfully for this community, he created a place where people could learn, make something meaningful, and feel connected to others who loved the craft.

This Workshop carries Steve’s fingerprints and it is our honor and joy to keep it that way.

We recognize our responsibility to preserve what he built, keep his work accessible, and thoughtfully carry it forward. That includes preparing the Workshop for the future of the scroll saw community and improving the technology that supports it, while protecting the familiar heart of the place Steve created.

Before we begin looking ahead, we want to spend time honoring what came before and to do that well, we would love to hear from you!

If one of Steve’s patterns taught you something, became a meaningful gift, helped you through a difficult season, introduced someone you love to the craft, or simply gave you a few good hours at the saw, we would be grateful to hear about it.

Update on Ownership

UPDATE ON OWNERSHIP:

It’s been five months since we lost Steve and I wanted to again thank all of you for your support.

I am happy to announce that Scrollsaw Workshop will be continuing under the new ownership of Stephen Dinesen, President of Bear Woods Supply.

Scrollsaw Workshop was a huge part of Steve's life for the last 20 years and your support has meant the world to both Steve and our entire family. In the last months of Steve's life, we discussed what he would want for the future of Scrollsaw Workshop in the case that he wasn't able to continue with the blog. As you all know Steve had a relationship with Stephen and Bear Woods for many years and Stephen was someone that Steve trusted to continue his work, so I feel confident in making this transition knowing that I have Steve's blessing.

Stephen Dinesen will be taking over Scrollsaw Workshop beginning tomorrow, August 18th, 2026. We have discussed his plans for the blog and it sounds like the future of Scrollsaw Workshop will be in good hands. He is initially hoping to gather stories and comments about Steve and his impact on the community over the years. I think this is a great way to honor his legacy and look forward to hearing all of your stories.

During the transition, the blog will be updated with new contact information for Stephen and his team. For those of you who may wish to reach out to me directly, you can email me at MrsSteveGood@gmail.com. Several followers have mentioned sending photos of various completed projects and I would still love to see those when they're ready!

Thank you again for all of your support over the past 20 years and especially the past several months. This isn't something I was expecting to go through for a long time, but having the prayers and condolences of this community has helped greatly.
