Giant Poop Cake

2012-11-23T22:50:00.001+00:00

I have had some strange requests before for cakes but this one really has to be the most bizarre so far. Emma a customer who has had a couple of cakes from me previously wanted a cake for her husband whom she rerers to as Poopy!! The biggest challenge was to make a pile of pooh look attractive. Hopefully Emma's guests won't be put off by the look of the cake!!

Today I ran another very successful workshop with some lovely ladies. Making cakes can be a very lonely choice of careers and so it is very nice to run the workshops and enjoy the banter and girlie chats that comes with them.
I was a little bit concerned that baubles might be a little difficult for my students to master, but I was so wrong, and in fact the only difficultly was in trying to work out how to transport them!

The results were amazing!!!

My Posts will be on my new website from now on:-

Amy, 40th Birthday Cake

2012-11-12T14:25:00.000+00:00

This cake is a gift for my dear friend Amy for whom I bought a bright pink of gloves a few years ago on a previous birthday. She has been a brilliant friend over the years and I wanted to make the present personal and a little bit special. She has been whisked away twice this weekend once with her neighbours for a spa day and then last night by her partner Simon to see Emeli Sande at The Royal Albert Hall (lucky lady). Happy birthday Amy xxx

New Website

2012-11-10T21:48:00.002+00:00

I must apologise for my lack of posts lately. I am currently desperately trying to upload all my pics onto my new website which I hope will be launching in the next week or so. It will encompass my blog, recipes and lots of other interesting links.

For now here are the few bits I have been working on this afternoon, cupcakes for a workshop on Tuesday and a few special bits for a cake going out on Monday for a very good friend, Amy, who will be celebrating a very special birthday on Monday.

Christmas Bauble Cakes

2012-10-20T18:36:00.000+01:00

I managed to find a couple of hours this afternoon to make an example for my next workshop, bauble cakes. I have never made them myself before but found them suprisingly easy and great fun. Going to have to go on line now and order some more small edible diamonds, they look so right against the lustre!

Anyone for KFC?

2012-10-12T16:38:00.000+01:00

Only one cake this week, which is a good job as my little girl has been off school for the last 3 days!! The cake was a nightmare to make due to the amount of super red colouring that I had to add to the fondant. It took an incredibly long time to dry out, and I hadn't anticipated how the weight of the drumsticks (made of cake pop mix) would make the cake bulge (a few strategically placed chips did the trick)!

Isobella Golden Wedding Anniversary Cake

2012-10-05T14:00:00.002+01:00

This cake has been made for the parents of two lovely friends of mine, Poppy and Sally. Ian and Judith Faulner will be celebrating their golden wedding anniversary this Saturday and hopefully this will go down well with both the lovely couple and their guests!

A Wedding Cake Named Imogen

2012-10-03T17:11:00.000+01:00

I have been busy once more making another wedding cake for the wedding fayre this Sunday at Chipping Sodbury Town Hall. I thought that it might be nice from now on to give my wedding cakes a name which fits a particular style. I thought that Imogen was a perfect name for this classy but simple cake.

Doors open at 12 on Sunday, and once again it would be great to put faces to names if you can make it!

18th Birthday Cupcakes

2012-09-29T13:03:00.003+01:00

These cupcakes were a last minute order for the daughter of a good friend. Wendy ordered 30, only to be told by her daughter this morning that she had invited 50!!

Moshi Poppet Cake

2012-09-29T11:14:00.000+01:00

This cake is for my beautiful little girl Felicity who will be celebrating her 8th birthday today along with a few friends. Unfortunately she is still obsessed with Moshi Monsters, and her favourite is Poppet, who apparently is a SUPER Moshi!

Anyway, the cake is a vanilla sponge and is designed in pink and green layers.

Cakepop stand

2012-09-26T19:02:00.002+01:00

My wonderful daddy has just whipped me up this beautiful cakepop stand for me to use this Saturday at my daughter's 8th birthday party. I am doing a Moshi themed desert table and needed something pretty to stand the cakepops in. I think it is far better and prettier than the perspex variety that are more widely available.

Aqua and white wedding cake and matching cupcake tower

2012-09-22T18:53:00.005+01:00

This is another cake combo for a wedding fair this weekend at a Thornbury Golf Club. I was hoping to get cake pops and mini cakes made as well but, life conspired against me. I have had a terrible cold and my poor little cat Peppa had to be given an emergency c-section on Thursday to deliver her one remaining kitten.

Graduation Cake

2012-09-14T10:33:00.000+01:00

My latest cake is for a young lady named Shona who is the daughter of my best friend Helen.

Shona has just graduated from UWE Bristol in Uniformed Services and is lucky to be starting a job with the police in October.

The cake is a vanilla and almond poppy seed with a vanilla buttercream filling, and I have just had the top for my breakfast and it was yummy

Libby's 10th birthday cake!

2012-09-08T19:04:00.000+01:00

Just a quick peep at my daughter Libby's 10th birthday cake. A combination of vanilla sponge, white chocolate ganache buttercream, fresh raspberries all topped of with a white chocolate ganache coating more raspberries and a pastillage no 10 and L.

Old Down Manor Wedding Fair

2012-09-08T18:52:00.000+01:00

Last Wednesday I exhibited my cakes at the amazing venue of Old Down Manor. I had a thoroughly enjoyable evening and whilst I was busy trying to woo customers my daughter set about taking some pictures. She managed to capture a fantastic shot across the Severn which a professional would be proud of.

I also managed to get hold of the camera long enough to get a quick shot of my cupcake tower which I handed out as tasters on the night.

Lovebirds 3 Tier Wedding Cake

2012-09-04T13:49:00.001+01:00

This is the last of my cake quartet for the wedding fayre tomorrow at Old Down Manor. Again, it is quite different from the other 3, and while simple it is still quite stylish, and the lovebirds can be adjusted to conform with the brides colours.

4 Tier Monogram 'LOVE' Wedding Cake

2012-09-02T10:13:00.002+01:00

Cake no3 in the wedding fayre collection is very elegant and quite different to my usual style.

I have used pastillage for the first time and it has been coated with silver leaf, which was a rather time consuming and messy process, but the finished result is quite lovely.

I made monogram letters with the pastillage which were covered in the silver leaf and then adorned with Swarovski crystals which catch the light beautifully.

If the tiers were made up with a chocolate truffle on the base and sponge for the other three tiers this cake would feed approximately 150 which makes it fantastic for larger celebrations!

Lace trim blocked hydrangea wedding cake

2012-09-02T10:00:00.000+01:00

I now have another cake to share with you for the three wedding fayres that I have coming up.

This cake has used a new technique for trimming it which uses rice paper to make an edible trim for the edge which obviously needs to be very neat on a blocked cake.

My aim has been to produce 4 very different cakes aimed at different price brackets and also varying tastes. I will also be producing a cupcake tower (free on the day) and other lovely samples.

Just to remind you, the dates for the three wedding fares I will be exhibiting at are:-

Wednesday 5th September 5pm - 9pm Old Down Manor

Sunday 23rd September 11am - 4pm. Thornbury Golf Club

Sunday. 7th. September 11am - 4pm. Chipping Sodbury Town Hall

I hope some of you will be able to come along and meet me!

Wedding dress inspired wedding cake

2012-08-23T08:11:00.001+01:00

This cake is the first of my new collection for two wedding fayres in September. I am so grateful to Sara at CourtHouse Cake Company who created such an easy to follow ruffles tutorial on Cakesdecor.

I wasn’t meant to be posting any of them until the collection was finished, but just couldn’t resist!

Lion and Prairie Dog Afternoon Tea Wedding Cake

2012-08-18T08:28:00.001+01:00

This cake has been a real challenge but I am so pleased with the finished result.

My client and her partner are marrying this Saturday in The Woodland Hall at Westonbirt Aboretum and I am reliably informed that they are affectionately referred to as a prairie dog and a lion by family members. Therefore, my remit was to produce a cake reflecting these characters and also to set the scene around an afternoon tea party.

The bottom cake is a 12" chocolate truffle with a chocolate ganache buttercream. The upper tier is a lusciously sticky lemon cake with a lemon curd buttercream.

I hope they like it as much as I do!

love birds and bird cage golden wedding anniversary cake

2012-08-10T11:42:00.000+01:00

Well, here it is. let's just hope that after all the hard work it doesn't melt in this heat!

Slings and Wedding Fayres!

2012-08-09T21:51:00.003+01:00

WOW, managed to finish this week's cake even with one arm in a sling! Hopefully I can get my injection next week and normal services can be resumed.

On a more up beat note I can now confirm that I will be exhibiting at Old Down Manor on Wednesday 5th September and also at Thornbury Golf Club (date in September to be confirmed). Sooo.... excited!

If you are getting married in the next couple of years please come along and check out the standard of my work close up and try some tasty samples.

Looking forward to putting some faces to names xx

Cosmos Daisy and Hydrangea 90th Birthday Cake

2012-08-03T19:15:00.000+01:00

This is my final offering at the end of what feels like a very long week! My spinal injection can't come soon enough. Why is it that the part of cake designing that I enjoy the most is that which causes me the most discomfort? Never mind, good excuse for a nice back tickle later!

The lady that ordered the cake, Jackie found my number through Yellow pages which is quite reassuring to know, as there are so many entries these days. The brief she gave me was floral, lilac/lavender, and no roses. Just in time, my order arrived from The States with all my new cutters (can't wait to try out the magnolia) and I decided to go the cosmos daisy which in nature is found in the requisite colour.
As I mentioned yesterday, I have found the heat and humidity rather challenging and while binding my individual filler flowers several of them broke, resulting in me having to make a fresh batch. Thank goodness I took the Jacqueline Butler flower making course and can now make them in my sleep!

Next week I am going to working on a wedding cake for a photo shoot with Thornbury Golf Club and also a Golden wedding anniversary cake. Can't wait to get going....

Peony Golden Wedding Anniversary Cake

2012-08-02T10:52:00.001+01:00

This cake is very simple but I love it. Now I've got my spray gun out I don't want to put it away!

The cake is for a couple celebrating their Golden Wedding Anniversary (not sure I'm going to be making too many of these in years to come)!

I had a hell of a time covering it because it was coated with chocolate buttercream rather than ganache for speed and with the heat of my kitchen things didn't go to plan. however, I got there in the end and I am so pleased with the finished cake.
