John Church, MMC, a member of the U.S. Marine Corps Reserve, recently completed a successful tour as the Civil-Military Future Operations Planner for the 2nd Marine Expeditionary Brigade in Helmand Province, Afghanistan. He was responsible for facilitating the interaction between coalition military forces and the local Afghan leadership. After a short stop in Camp Lejeune, N.C., Church returned to Washington, D.C., where he is the Operations Officer for 4th Civil Affairs Group, and then back home to his wife, Mary Kay; sons JC, 5, and Travis, 3; and twin daughters Harper and Claire, 11 months. <p>Lt. Col. John Church, MMC, a member of the U.S. Marine Corps Reserve, recently completed a successful tour as the Civil-Military Future Operations Planner for the 2nd Marine Expeditionary Brigade in Helmand Province, Afghanistan. He was responsible for facilitating the interaction between coalition military forces and the local Afghan leadership. After a short stop in Camp Lejeune, N.C., Church returned to Washington, D.C., where he is the Operations Officer for 4th Civil Affairs Group, and then back home to his wife, Mary Kay; sons JC, 5, and Travis, 3; and twin daughters Harper and Claire, 11 months. Church will resume his doctoral work in the fall after spending some time with his family and standing up in MMC student Sam Srauy’s July wedding. While deployed, Church recorded a segment of &#8220;This I Believe&#8221; with Corey Flintoff of National Public Radio, met with Soraya Nelson of National Public Radio and Geraldo Rivera of Fox News, and was featured on NBC 10 Philadelphia and MSNBC.</p>
