To do this, you have to be certified by a scuba instructor. It is important to remember that the instructor should be licensed and should teach you all the water skills you need in order to have a safe and enjoyable dive. Here's what you should look for in a scuba instructor:

Scuba Diving Certification

There are many people who can call themselves scuba instructors even if they are not. It is important to remember that scuba instructors should be licensed by scuba diving certification agencies, such as PADI, NAUI and/or SSI.

It is up to you to choose which certification agency you want to be certified in. If you ask most scuba divers, they will usually recommend PADI or NAUI. This is because these two certification agencies are two of the world's largest and are well-known to provide comprehensive knowledge about the different skills you need in order to have a safe and enjoyable dive.

If you don't have any experience in diving, you will first be certified as an open water scuba diver in PADI. Or, if you want a crash course in scuba diving where you can learn the basic skills and have a feel of what's it like breathing underwater, you can get an introductory dive.

The difference between these two is that in an open water scuba diving course, you will learn about the different water skills you need to have in order to dive safely. The certification in the open water scuba diving course lasts a lifetime. However, in the introductory dive, you will only learn the basic water skills needed to dive, such as underwater mask clearing, and underwater regulator recovery. The certification with introductory dive lasts only a year in PADI.

When choosing a scuba instructor, you have to find out if they are certified or not. PADI and NAUI can offer you information whether the instructor is indeed certified by their agency.
