Sony Ericssons första Android-mobil X10 är en stor pekskärmsmobil med 4 tums skärm och tydligt fokus på multimedia. Sony Ericssons uppger att operativsystemet kommer att vara version 1.6 av Android, vilket kan tyckas märkligt med tanke på att 2.0 redan lanserats och att X10 är en kraftfull telefon som inte kommer ut på marknaden förrän under nästa år. Det handlar dock troligen om att man under en längre tid jobbat med att ta fram egna applikationer och anpassningar av gränssnittet som går under samlingsnamnet UX, som ska utläsas ”user experience”.

Där finns bland annat något som tillverkaren kallar Timescape. Funktionen samlar all kommunikation med en person, oavsett om den skett exempelvis via mejl, sms, Facebook eller Twitter. Det finns även en funktion för att känna igen ansikten på bilder. Den kan identifiera upp till fem personer på samma foto och koppla ihop nya bilder med kontakter som finns inlagda med bild i telefonboken.

Sony Ericsson har också tagit fram ett eget mediagränssnitt som man kallar Mediascape. Utöver bilder och film som finns lagrat i telefonen och på minneskortet ger det också tillgång till innehåll från Youtube och Sony Ericssons PlayNow-portal.
Själv ska man kunna skapa bilder och film med telefonens kamera. Den kan ta stillbilder med upplösningen 8,1 megapixel och är utrustad med autofokus och fotolampa. Bland funktionerna kan nämnas ansikts- och leendeigenkänning samt bildstabilisering för bilder och videoinspelning.

Att det är en Android-telefon innebär att man som användare bör ha ett konto hos Google och använda Googles tjänster om man vill utnyttja telefonen fullt ut. En del applikationer, som exempelvis Gmail och Google Calendar, finns förinstallerade i telefonen men man får också till ett stort och snabbt växande utbud av applikationer i Googles programbutik Market. Man är dock inte helt beroende av Google eftersom det går bra att använda ett eget epost-konto med pop eller imap-protokoll. Det finns även stöd för Microsofts Exchange-lösning och Sony Ericssons har försett telefonen med en egen synk-lösing.

X10 ska börja säljas under första kvartalet 2010. Priset kommer att ligga på cirka 6000 kronor. Telefonen ska finnas i färgerna Sensuous Black och Luster White.

Mac OS X is renowned for its simplicity, its reliability, and its ease of use. So when it came to designing Snow Leopard, Apple engineers had a single goal: to make a great thing even better. They searched for areas to refine, further simplify, and speed up — from little things like ejecting external drives to big things like installing the OS. New look, new features for Exposé and Stacks.

Exposé is refined and more convenient. It’s now integrated in the Dock, so you can just click and hold an application icon in the Dock and all the windows for that application will unshuffle so you can quickly change to another one. Exposé also has a whole new look. Windows are displayed in an organized grid, making it even easier to find what you’re looking for. And stacks — Dock items that give you fast access to a folder of files — are now scrollable, so you can easily view all items. You can also navigate through folders in a stack to see all the files inside it.

Quicker Time Machine backup.

Introduced in Mac OS X Leopard, the revolutionary Time Machine made backing up your hard drive easy for the first time. Time Capsule took backup even further with its wireless hard drive that works seamlessly with Time Machine. Now Snow Leopard makes Time Machine up to 80 percent faster and reduces the time it takes to complete your initial backup to Time Capsule.¹

Faster to wake up and shut down.

With Snow Leopard, your Mac wakes from sleep up to twice as quickly when you have screen locking enabled. And shutting down is up to 80 percent faster, saving precious moments when you’re trying to head home or to the airport.¹

Faster, more reliable installation.

Upgrading your Mac has never been easier. For Snow Leopard, the entire process has been simplified, streamlined, and is up to 50 percent faster, yet more comprehensive and reliable.² For example, Snow Leopard checks your applications to make sure they’re compatible and sets aside any programs known to be incompatible. In case a power outage interrupts your installation, it can start again without losing any data.

Smaller footprint.

Snow Leopard takes up less than half the disk space of the previous version, freeing about 7GB for you — enough for about 1,750 more songs³ or a few thousand more photos.

Another leap forward for QuickTime.

QuickTime X is the next-generation media technology that powers the audio and video experience in Mac OS X Snow Leopard. It includes a completely new QuickTime Player application with a clean, uncluttered design, a new trimming interface, and easy uploads to YouTube and MobileMe. And it delivers more efficient media playback, HTTP-based live streaming, and greater color accuracy.

Innovative Chinese character input.

Until Snow Leopard, if you wanted to enter Chinese characters on a computer, you had to type in the phonetic spelling of Chinese words and the computer would convert them into proper Chinese characters. Snow Leopard offers a breakthrough new way to enter characters: You write them directly on the Multi-Touch trackpad in your Mac notebook. They’ll appear on the screen in a new input window, which recommends characters based on what you drew and lets you choose the right one. The input window even offers suggestions for subsequent characters based on what you chose.

More reliable, higher-resolution iChat.

Having a video chat using iChat is more reliable and more accessible than ever in Snow Leopard.⁴ It includes technology to address many common router incompatibilities that can interfere with connections. And if iChat can’t make a direct connection, it will use the AIM relay server to create a successful chat session.

Now more people can have high-resolution, 640-by-480-pixel video chats, because the technical requirements are less demanding: You need only one-third the upstream bandwidth previously required — 300 Kbps instead of 900 Kbps. And finally, iChat Theater now offers 640-by-480 resolution, four times greater than before.

The right service at the right time.

The Services menu in Mac OS X lets you use features of one application while working in another. In Snow Leopard, services are more simplified, streamlined, and helpful. The Services menu is contextual, so it shows just the services appropriate for the application you’re using or content you’re viewing rather than all available services. You can access services with a right click of your mouse or Control-click of your trackpad. You can configure the menu to show only the services you want, and you can even create your own services using Automator.

Automatic updates for printer drivers.

Snow Leopard makes sure you always have the most up-to-date driver so you can get the most from your printer. When you plug in a printer, Mac OS X can download the latest driver available over the Internet. And it periodically checks to make sure it has the latest driver. If not, it downloads the newest version through Software Update. Easy.

Automatic time
zone setup.

If you’re traveling around the world, the last thing you want to worry about is whether your computer is set to the correct time zone. Snow Leopard takes care of that for you. Using the Core Location technology, it locates known Wi-Fi hotspots to set the time zone automatically, so you’ll always know the right time no matter where you are.⁵

Easy PDF text selection.

Here’s an enhancement that exemplifies the pursuit of perfection. When using a PDF viewer such as Preview, have you ever tried to copy text from a PDF document that has more than one column? It’s almost impossible. Instead of selecting only the text you want, your cursor selects all the text across the page, so you end up with a mix of words from every column. Mac OS X Snow Leopard applies sophisticated artificial intelligence algorithms to fix the problem. It analyzes the layout of each page in the PDF to identify columns of text. So when you use the cursor to select text, you get only the words you want. That’s a real time-saver.

Faster, more powerful Safari.

Safari 4 is the latest version of the blazing-fast web browser. It renders web pages at high speed and delivers a range of new features, including full history search, smart address and search fields, an innovative way to display your top sites, industry-leading support for web standards, and more.

With Snow Leopard, Safari 4 delivers up to 50 percent faster JavaScript performance thanks to its 64-bit support.⁶ In addition, Safari is even more resistant to crashes. It turns out that the number one cause of crashes in Mac OS X is browser plug-ins. So Apple engineers redesigned Safari to make plug-ins run separately. If a plug-in crashes on a web page, Safari will keep running.

More efficient file sharing.

The Bonjour technology in every Mac makes file and media sharing virtually effortless. Now Bonjour in Snow Leopard makes sharing more energy efficient. If you have a computer in your home or office that shares files — like media files for your Apple TV — you have to leave the computer on all the time, which isn’t very energy efficient. With Snow Leopard and a compatible AirPort Extreme or Time Capsule base station, however, your computer can go to sleep yet continue to share its files with other computers and devices, waking when you need it and sleeping when you don’t.

More reliable disk eject.

Snow Leopard improves the reliability of ejecting discs and external drives. Sometimes when an application or process is using the files on a drive, Mac OS X prevents you from ejecting it, but you don’t always know why. In Snow Leopard, you’ll get fewer of those errors and when you do get them, you’ll see exactly which application is using the drive, so you can quit it and eject the drive properly.

Agreement are limited to the first fourteen (14) days
after you first install the Software unless you supply
information required to activate your licensed copy in
the manner described during the setup sequence of the
Software. You can activate the Software through the
use of the Internet or telephone; toll charges may apply.
You may also need to reactivate the Software if you
modify your computer hardware or alter the Software.
There are technological measures in this Software that
are designed to prevent unlicensed use of the Software.
You agree that Microsoft may use those measures.
If you are not using a licensed copy of the Software,
you are not allowed to install the Software or, to
the extent any are offered, future Software updates.

1.4 System Activation.
You acknowledge and understand that the Software contains
components requiring the periodic use of a Microsoft
Internet-based service. Installation and use of this
service is called System Activation for Windows Rights
Management ("System Activation"). During System
Activation, your computer will be connected automatically
via the Internet or via an entity's proxy server in order
to create and save to your computer certain system
components ("Component[s]") for your particular computer.
The Component is used by the Windows Rights Management
("RM") portion of the Software to allow you to access
information that is protected by the RM features of the
Software.

1.5 Windows Rights Management ("RM").
Creators of information such as Web content, e-mail messages,
and documents ("Information") may use this RM technology to
specify permitted uses of their Information. Applications,
such as Web Services, e-mail messaging, and word processing,
may use RM to publish and/or consume Information
("RM-Enabled Applications"). If an RM-Enabled Application
has been compromised, the RM features of that application,
and access to RM-protected Information created for use with
that application, may be disabled; however, you will still
have the ability to use that application to access
Information that has not been protected using RM technology.
In order to re-enable the compromised Application andccess
RM-protected Information, you may need to upgrade the RM
components of the Software, repeat System Activation, and/or
upgrade the compromised RM-Enabled Application. If an
upgrade to the RM components or a repeat of System Activation
is required, Microsoft will ask for your consent before such
upgrade or activation.

1.6 Windows Rights Management Services ("RMS").
Windows Rights Management Services software ("RMS") is a
service of Windows Server 2003 which is designed to work
in conjunction with RM-enabled Applications and RM components
of the Software to let users specify permitted uses of their
Information. This Agreement does not grant you any use
rights to Windows Server 2003. You must obtain a validly
licensed copy of Windows Server 2003 to use the RM features
of the Software with Windows Server 2003 RMS.

1.7 Reservation of Rights.
Microsoft and its suppliers shall retain title and all
ownership rights to the Software, and this Agreement shall
not be construed in any manner as transferring any rights
of ownership to the Software or to the features or
information therein. Microsoft reserves all rights not
expressly granted to you in this Agreement. This Agreement
shall not be construed in any manner as transferring any
rights of ownership or license to the Software or to the
features or information therein, except as specifically
stated herein. This Agreement does not grant you any rights
to use the trademarks or trade names "Microsoft", "Windows",
"WinFX" or any other trademarks, service marks or logos
belonging to Microsoft. You agree to take reasonable
measures to comply with Microsoft's trademark guidelines
when referencing the Software in your materials. Microsoft's
trademark guidelines may be found at

2. TERM OF AGREEMENT.
YOUR RIGHT TO USE THE SOFTWARE SHALL
BE EFFECTIVE FROM THE DATE YOU
FIRST INSTALL THE SOFTWARE ON
ANY WORKSTATION COMPUTER FOR
A PERIOD OF ONE HUNDRED AND EIGHTY
(180) DAYS. THE SOFTWARE IS
TIME SENSITIVE AND WILL NOT
FUNCTION UPON EXPIRATION OF THE
180 DAY PERIOD. NOTICE OF
EXPIRATION WILL NOT ACTIVELY
BE GIVEN, SO YOU NEED TO PLAN
FOR THE EXPIRATION DATE AND MAKE
A COPY OF AND REMOVE IMPORTANT
DATA BEFORE EXPIRATION. IF YOU
DESIRE TO USE THE SOFTWARE AFTER
THIS AGREEMENT HAS EXPIRED, YOU
WILL NEED TO ACQUIRE A VALIDLY
LICENSED COPY OF A SUBSEQUENT
PRE-RELEASE VERSION OF THE SOFTWARE
OR THE COMMERCIAL RELEASE VERSION
OF THE SOFTWARE.
Without prejudice to any other rights, Microsoft may
terminate this Agreement if you fail to abide by the
terms and conditions of this Agreement. Upon
termination of this Agreement, you shall cease use
of the Software, and if so requested, promptly return
to Microsoft, or certify destruction of, all full or
partial copies of the Software provided by Microsoft.
The following sections shall survive termination or
expiration of this Agreement: Reservation of Rights;
Feedback; Disclaimer of Warranties; Exclusion of
Incidental, Consequential and Certain Other Damages;
Governing Law/Jurisdiction/Attorneys' Fees; Limitation
of Liability and Remedies; U.S. Government Rights;
Applicable Law; and Entire Agreement, Severability.

3. AUTOMATIC INTERNET-BASED SERVICES.
The Software features described below are enabled by default
to connect via the Internet to Microsoft computer systems
automatically, without separate notice to you. You consent
to the operation of these features, unless you choose to
switch them off or not use them. Microsoft does not collect
any information that will be used to identify you or contact
you. For more information about these features, please see
the privacy statement at:
http://www.microsoft.com/windows/longhorn/privacy.mspx.

3.1 Windows Update Features.
If you connect a hardware device to your Workstation
Computer, it may not have the drivers needed to communicate
with that hardware. The Software's update feature can
obtain the correct drivers from Microsoft and install them
on your device. You can switch this update feature off.

3.2 Web Content Features.
Under the Software's default configuration, if you are
connected to the Internet, several features of the Software
are enabled by default to retrieve content from Microsoft
computer systems and display it to you. When you activate
such a feature, it uses standard Internet protocols, which
transmit the type of operating system, browser and language
code of your Workstation Computer to the Microsoft computer
system so that the content can be viewed properly from your
Workstation Computer. These features only operate when you
activate them, and you may choose to switch them off or not
use them. Examples of these features include Windows
Catalog, Search Assistant, and the Headlines and Search
features of Help and Support Center.

3.3 Digital Certificates.
The Software uses digital certificates based on the x.509
standard. These digital certificates confirm the identity
of Internet users sending x.509 standard encrypted
information. The Software retrieves certificates and updates
certificate revocation lists. These security features operate
only when you use the Internet.

3.4 Auto Root Update.
The Auto Root Update feature updates the list of trusted
certificate authorities. You can switch off the Auto Root
Update feature.

3.5 Windows Media Player.
Some features of Windows Media Player automatically contact
Microsoft computer systems if you use Windows Media Player
or specific features of it: features that (A) check for new
codecs if your Workstation Computer does not have the
correct ones for content you attempt to play (this feature
may be switched off), and (B) check for new versions of
Windows Media Player (this feature will operate only when
you are using Windows Media Player).

3.6 Windows Media Digital Rights Management.
Content providers are using the digital rights management
technology for Windows Media contained in this Software
("WM-DRM") to protect the integrity of their content
("Secure Content") so that their intellectual property,
including copyright, in such content is not misappropriated.
Portions of this Software and third party applications such
as media players use WM-DRM to play Secure Content
("WM-DRM Software"). If the WM-DRM Software's security
has been compromised, owners of Secure Content ("Secure
Content Owners") may request that Microsoft revoke the WM-DRM
Software's right to copy, display and/or play Secure Content.
Revocation does not alter the WM-DRM Software's ability to
play unprotected content. A list of revoked WM-DRM Software
is sent to your Workstation Computer whenever you download
a license for Secure Content from the Internet. Microsoft
may, in conjunction with such license, also download
revocation lists onto your Workstation Computer on behalf of
Secure Content Owners. Secure Content Owners may also
require you to upgrade some of the WM-DRM components in this
Software ("WM-DRM Upgrades") before accessing their content.
When you attempt to play such content, WM-DRM Software built
by Microsoft will notify you that a WM-DRM Upgrade is
required and then ask for your consent before the WM-DRM
Upgrade is downloaded. WM-DRM Software built by third
parties may do the same. If you decline the upgrade, you
will not be able to access content that requires the WM-DRM
Upgrade; however, you will still be able to access
unprotected content and Secure Content that does not require
the upgrade. WM-DRM features that access the Internet, such
as acquiring new licenses and/or performing a required WM-DRM
Upgrade, can be switched off. When these features are
switched off, you will still be able to play Secure Content
if you have a valid license for such content already stored
on your Workstation Computer.

4. SOFTWARE MAINTENANCE/UPDATES.
Microsoft is not obligated to provide maintenance, technical
support or updates to you for the Software provided pursuant
to this Agreement. However, Microsoft may, in its sole
discretion, provide further pre-release versions, technical
support, updates and/or supplements of the Software, add-on
components, or Internet-based services components, and/or
related information ("Updates") to you hereunder in which
case such Updates shall also be deemed to be included in the
"Software" and therefore governed by this Agreement, unless
other terms of use are provided by Microsoft with such
Updates. In no event shall Microsoft be obligated to
provide you, free of charge, a copy of the commercial
release version of the Software in connection with your
participation in the testing program. Microsoft is not
obligated to make the Software commercially available.
Microsoft reserves the right to discontinue any
Internet-based services provided to you or made available
to you through the use of the Software. Features supported
on 32-bit and 64-bit versions of the Software, including
some features mentioned in this Agreement, may not be
identical or available in both versions; please refer to
Software documentation for a list of specific features
included with each version.

5. LIMITATION ON REVERSE ENGINEERING,
DECOMPILATION, AND DISASSEMBLY.
You may not reverse engineer, decompile or disassemble any
portion of the Software, except and only to the extent
that such activity is expressly permitted by applicable
law notwithstanding this limitation. Further, with
respect to RM contained within the Software you may not
otherwise seek to discover the formats or protocols of RM.

6. LINKS TO THIRD PARTY SITES.
You may link to third party sites through the use of the
Software. The third party sites are not under the control
of Microsoft, and Microsoft is not responsible for the
contents of any third party sites, any links contained in
third party sites, or any changes or updates to third party
sites. Microsoft is not responsible for webcasting or any
other form of transmission received from any third party
sites. Microsoft is providing these links to third party
sites to you only as a convenience, and the inclusion of any
link does not imply an endorsement by Microsoft of the third
party site.

7. DISCLAIMER OF WARRANTIES.
THE SOFTWARE IS DEEMED ACCEPTED BY
YOU. THE SOFTWARE CONTAINS PRE-RELEASE
SOFTWARE AND MAY BE CHANGED
SUBSTANTIALLY BEFORE COMMERCIAL RELEASE.
TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY
APPLICABLE LAW, MICROSOFT AND ITS

MERCHANTABILITY, OF FITNESS FOR
A PARTICULAR PURPOSE, OF RELIABILITY
OR AVAILABILITY, OF ACCURACY OR
COMPLETENESS OF RESPONSES, OF
RESULTS, OF WORKMANLIKE EFFORT, OF
LACK OF VIRUSES, AND LACK OF
NEGLIGENCE, ALL WITH REGARD TO THE
SOFTWARE, AND THE PROVISION OF OR
FAILURE TO PROVIDE SUPPORT OR OTHER
SERVICES, INFORMATION, SOFTWARE,
AND RELATED CONTENT THROUGH THE
SOFTWARE OR OTHERWISE ARISING
OUT OF THE USE OF THE SOFTWARE. ALSO,
THERE IS NO WARRANTY, DUTY OR CONDITION
OF TITLE, QUIET ENJOYMENT, QUIET
POSSESSION, CORRESPONDENCE TO DESCRIPTION
OR NON-INFRINGEMENT WITH REGARD TO THE
SOFTWARE. THE ENTIRE RISK AS TO THE
QUALITY, OR ARISING OUT OF THE USE OR
PERFORMANCE OF THE SOFTWARE AND ANY
SUPPORT SERVICES, REMAINS WITH YOU.

8. EXCLUSION OF INCIDENTAL,

OF THIS AGREEMENT, EVEN IN THE
EVENT OF THE FAULT, TORT (INCLUDING
NEGLIGENCE), MISREPRESENTATION, STRICT
LIABILITY, BREACH OF CONTRACT OR BREACH
OF WARRANTY OF MICROSOFT OR ANY SUPPLIER,
AND EVEN IF MICROSOFT OR ANY SUPPLIER
HAS BEEN ADVISED OF THE POSSIBILITY
OF SUCH DAMAGES. BECAUSE SOME
STATES/JURISDICTIONS DO NOT ALLOW
THE EXCLUSION OR LIMITATION OF
LIABILITY FOR CONSEQUENTIAL OR
INCIDENTAL DAMAGES, THE ABOVE

9. LIMITATION OF LIABILITY AND REMEDIES.

TO THE AMOUNT ACTUALLY PAID BY YOU FOR
THE SOFTWARE OR US$5.00. THE FOREGOING
LIMITATIONS, EXCLUSIONS AND DISCLAIMERS
(INCLUDING THE FOLLOWING SECTIONS:

10. GOVERNING LAW/JURISDICTION/ATTORNEYS' FEES.
This Agreement shall be construed and controlled by the laws
of the State of Washington, and you consent to exclusive
jurisdiction and venue in the federal courts sitting in King
County, Washington, unless no federal jurisdiction exists,
in which case you consent to exclusive jurisdiction and
venue in the Superior Court of King County, Washington.
You waive all defenses of lack of personal jurisdiction and
forum non conveniens. Process may be served on either party
in the manner authorized by applicable law or court rule.
If either party employs attorneys to enforce any rights
arising out of or relating to this Agreement, the prevailing
party shall be entitled to recover its reasonable attorneys'
fees, costs and other expenses.

11. U.S. GOVERNMENT LICENSE RIGHTS.
All Software provided to the U.S. Government pursuant to
solicitations issued on or after December 1, 1995 is provided
with the commercial license rights and restrictions described
elsewhere herein. All Software provided to the U.S.
Government pursuant to solicitations issued prior to
December 1, 1995 is provided with "Restricted Rights" as
provided for in FAR, 48 CFR 52.227-14 (JUNE 1987) or DFAR,
48 CFR 252.227-7013 (OCT 1988), as applicable.

12. EXPORT RESTRICTIONS.
You acknowledge that the Software is of U.S. origin and
subject to U.S. export jurisdiction. You agree to comply
with all applicable international and national laws that
apply to the Software, including the U.S. Export
Administration Regulations, as well as end-user, end-use,
and destination restrictions issued by U.S. and other
governments. For additional information see

13. APPLICABLE LAW.
If you acquired this Software in the United States, this
Agreement is governed by the laws of the State of Washington.
If you acquired this Software in Canada, unless expressly
prohibited by local law, this Agreement is governed by the
laws in force in the Province of Ontario, Canada; and, in
respect of any dispute which may arise hereunder, you consent
to the jurisdiction of the federal and provincial courts
sitting in Toronto, Ontario. If this Software was acquired
outside the United States, then local law may apply.

14 ENTIRE AGREEMENT; SEVERABILITY.
This Agreement (including any addendum or amendment to
this Agreement which is included with the Software)
constitutes the complete and exclusive Agreement between
Microsoft and you with respect to the subject matter hereof,
and supersedes all prior or contemporaneous oral or written
communications, proposals, representations, understandings,
or agreements not specifically incorporated herein. If any
provision of this Agreement is held to be void, invalid,
unenforceable or illegal, the other provisions shall
continue in full force and effect.

Read before you install this product

File systems: offline files

If you have used your current operating system to store any information in the cache, be sure to write the information in the cache back to the server before you install Windows Code Name "Longhorn." The cache is not maintained during a "Longhorn" installation, even if you use the offline-files feature.

Important information about Setup

This information about Setup applies only to this release of Windows Code Name "Longhorn."

You should install "Longhorn" only on a clean partition or hard disk and only in a test environment. This version of "Longhorn" is not intended for use in a production environment.
You can start a "clean installation" of "Longhorn" from the installation medium while you are running Microsoft Windows 2000, Microsoft Windows XP, or a Microsoft Windows Server™ 2003 family operating system. If you want to perform a clean installation, be sure to format the target partition before you start the installation. If you have no operating system installed, or you are running an operating system other than Windows 2000, Windows XP, or a Windows Server 2003 family operating system, start the computer from the installation medium and perform a clean installation. If you want to use this method, and you have an existing operating system, you can format the partition during Setup.

We recommend that you start the computer from the Windows Code Name "Longhorn" installation medium, click Clean installation, format the target partition, and then install "Longhorn."

Important

When you format a partition, all data contained on the partition is deleted.

You cannot upgrade your computer to "Longhorn"; you can only perform a clean installation.
If you want to use the "Longhorn" Contacts feature, during the installation, you must install "Longhorn" on an NTFS file system partition or disk drive. Although you cannot choose a format other than NTFS during the installation, if you install "Longhorn" on a drive or partition that was previously formatted as a FAT file system, you must reformat the drive to NTFS if you want to use Contacts.
You cannot install "Longhorn" while you are running MS-DOS.
Setup installs "Longhorn" in the Windows directory only. You are not given the option to specify the directory name where "Longhorn" is installed.
You can install "Longhorn" onto a partition or drive that meets the following criteria:

It has a minimum of 3 gigabytes (GB) of free space.
It has a driver that has been provided by Microsoft or another source. (In the latter case, see Installing "Longhorn" if Microsoft does not currently provide a driver for your hard-disk controller.)
It is not a hidden partition or reserved for use by your OEM.
It is not a dynamic disk.

By default, the installation partition is assigned the drive letter C: when the "Longhorn" installation starts. If you want to specify a different drive letter, you can use an unattended installation with the following parameter (where X: is the drive you want to specify):

The user interface for "Longhorn" Setup does not currently support joining a domain. If you want to join a domain, you can do one of the following:

Install "Longhorn" using Unattend.xml. (You can find Unattend.xml in the /docs folder of your "Longhorn" installation medium.)

-or-

Join the domain just as you would join a domain for Windows XP after Setup has completed. To do this, open Control Panel, click User Accounts, and then click Start the Network Identification Wizard.

To install "Longhorn" on the same hard disk as Windows XP, you must do the following:

Before you install "Longhorn," install Windows XP Professional with Service Pack 1 (SP1) or later or Windows XP Home Edition with SP1 or later.
Install "Longhorn" on a partition that is separate from the partition on which Windows XP is installed.
If you want to run "Longhorn" as part of a dual-boot system, you can do so only on a computer that is running either Windows XP Professional or Windows XP Home Edition.

Installing "Longhorn" if Microsoft does not currently provide a driver for your hard-disk controller

This note applies if Microsoft does not currently provide a driver for your hard-disk controller, and you must therefore use a driver supplied by the storage device manufacturer. Before you install "Longhorn," you must use Windows Preinstallation Environment (Windows PE) to install the driver that the manufacturer has supplied.

This is explained in the following procedure.

To install "Longhorn" if Microsoft does not currently provide a driver for your hard-disk controller

When you are prompted to install a non-Microsoft SCSI driver or redundant array of independent disks (RAID) driver, press F6.
Insert the floppy disk provided by the storage device manufacturer.
Setup then starts Windows Preinstallation Environment (Windows PE).
After Windows PE starts, if you installed one of the drivers described in Step 1, press F6 again when you are prompted to do so.
Setup searches for and installs drivers from the device-driver floppy disk.
After Step 5 is completed, Setup will finish installing "Longhorn."

Automatic Updates

The Automatic Updates feature, which helps keep your computer current with critical updates, is not included in this version of Windows Code Name "Longhorn." To help keep your computer secure, you can obtain the latest updates for this version of Windows from the Microsoft Download Center.

Windows File Protection

Windows File Protection has been disabled for this preliminary release of "Longhorn." The SfcGetNextProtectedFile and SfcIsFileProtected application programming interfaces (APIs) are also not supported in this preliminary release. As a result, Windows File Protection cannot help protect the critical Windows system files.

This document provides general information and step-by-step instructions for setting up Microsoft® Windows® Code Name "Longhorn."

Note

The following installation instructions are for a preliminary release of a product that is still in development. Any or all of the following information might change.

Information you must provide during the setup process

During the setup process, you will be asked for the information listed in this section. Be sure to have this information ready so that you can provide it when you are prompted to do so.

Windows Code Name "Longhorn" installation medium.
Product key (25 characters).
Pen or pencil. You might need to write down settings and other important information.
Internet information. If you plan to connect to the Internet, you might need the name of your Internet service provider (ISP) and other information provided by your ISP. You can configure your settings during the setup process, or you can postpone this until after Setup is complete.
Network information. If your computer is currently connected to a network, obtain the following information before you run Setup:

Name of your computer.
Name of the workgroup or domain.
If your computer is a member of a domain, your domain user name and password.
IP address (if your network does not have a DHCP server).

Upgrading to Windows Code Name "Longhorn"

The option to upgrade is not available in this pre-release version of "Longhorn."

Performing a clean installation of Windows Code Name "Longhorn"

You can use the clean installation option to install "Longhorn" on a new hard disk or computer. You can replace an existing Windows installation, removing all of its files and settings. You must reinstall your programs when Setup is done.

You can also use this option to install "Longhorn" on a different drive or partition if you want to have more than one operating system on the same computer. This is called a dual-boot or multi-boot configuration.

Note

Before installing "Longhorn," you should remove virus-protection software. In addition, you might want to run the Windows Memory Diagnostic tool to test your computer's random access memory (RAM). To use the Windows Memory Diagnostic tool, follow the instructions at the Microsoft Web site.

To perform a clean installation

With Windows running, insert the Windows Code Name "Longhorn" installation medium into your computer's CD-ROM or DVD-ROM drive.
Restart your computer.
When the message "Press any key to boot from CD" appears, press a key. Setup begins.
On the What do you want to do? page, click Install Longhorn.
On the Welcome to Windows Setup page, click Next.

Next

On the Type your product key page, type the 25-character product key.
On the Review the Microsoft Windows License Agreement page, read the agreement, and if you accept the terms, click Yes, I accept the terms of this agreement.
On the Which type of setup do you want? page, click Clean installation.
On the Setup will use these settings page, change settings as appropriate.
To reconfigure partitions, click Installation location, and then follow the instructions on the screen. To return to the Setup will use these settings page after making changes, click Continue.
Continue to follow the instructions on your screen.

Important

Be sure to reinstall your virus-protection software after Setup is finished.

Add a Language to Windows Setup

The easiest way to install a language pack is to use Windows System Image Manager which is available in the Windows AIK.
Before we start anything, you'll need to copy the contents of your Vista DVD to C:\windows-distribution, have a copy of the language pack you wish to install, and the Windows AIK.

Using Windows SIM, you will need to create an answer file. Once created, scroll down to Packages, right-click and select Insert Package(s). Locate the language pack you intend to install (lp.cab) and click OK.. It will now be listed under Packages -> LanguagePack in the answer file. Now go to File -> Save Answer File and name it unattend.xml

Next, we'll want to mount the Windows Image File using the following command:
imagex /mountrw C:\windows-distribution\sources\install.wim 1 C:\wim_mount

Now, use Package Manager to apply the answer file to the mounted image using this command:
start /w pkgmgr /o:"C:\wim_mount;C:\wim_mount\Windows" /n:"C:\unattend.xml"

The language pack is now installed to the Windows Image. When we add or remove a language pack from a Windows Image we are required to recreate the lang.ini file. To do so use the following command:
intlcfg -genlangini -dist:C:\windows-distribution -image:C:\wim_mount -defaultlang:fr-FR -all:fr-FR

The Lang.ini file is recreated and includes a list of the installed language packs. Additionally, the default language to use during Windows Setup and the default language of the Windows installation are set to fr-FR.

To verify this has worked correctly, use the report feature to display the available languages on the image:
intlcfg -report -dist:C:\windows-distribution -image:C:\wim_mount

Now to finalize the changes and commit the changes use the following command:
imagex /unmount /commit C:\wim_mount

If we want to change the language during Windows Setup we'll have to add the Windows Setup localized resources to the windows distribution.
To do so, firstly we'll need to expand all the contents of the lp.cab file using the command:
expand.exe C:\LP\fr-FR\lp.cab -f:* C:\LP\fr-FR\extracted_files

Now create a new directory in the Windows distribution for the localized setup files:
mkdir C:\windows-distribution\sources\fr-FR

Next step is to copy the setup and license files to the windows distribution:
xcopy C:\LP\fr-FR\extracted_files\setup\sources\fr-FR\* C:\windows-distribution\sources\fr-FR\ /cheryki
xcopy C:\LP\fr-FR\extracted_files\sources\license\* C:\windows-distribution\sources\license /cheryki

Again, we'll have to mount the Windows image, recreate the lang.ini file, and unmount the Windows image with the following commands:
imagex /mountrw C:\windows-distribution\sources\install.wim 1 C:\wim_mount
intlcfg -genlangini -dist:C:\windows-distribution -image:C:\wim_mount
imagex /unmount /commit C:\wim_mount

If you added a language pack to the Windows distribution, these languages must be added to the lang.ini file. The lang.ini file must be similar to the following example.

If you are creating a bootable DVD, you must also add the Windows Setup localized resource files to the boot.wim file.

Mount the boot.wim file:
imagex /mountrw C:\windows-distribution\sources\boot.wim 1 C:\bootwim_mount

Copy the Windows Setup localized resources to the boot.wim file:
xcopy C:\LP\fr-FR\extracted_files\setup\* C:\bootwim_mount\sources\fr-FR\ /cheryki

Copy the Windows Setup license files to the boot.wim file:
xcopy C:\LP\fr-FR\extracted_files\sources\license\* C:\bootwim_mount\sources\fr-FR\ /cheryki

Copy the Windows distribution lang.ini file to the boot.wim file:
xcopy C:\windows-distribution\sources\lang.ini C:\bootwim_mount\sources\ /cheryki

Commit the changes and unmount the boot.wim file:
imagex /unmount /commit C:\bootwim_mount

Now burn the Windows Distribution, and continue with the installed second language!
We'll be creating the Vista image using the UDF file system, as that is what the original Vista DVD uses.

The image creator is located under the Windows AIK -> Tools -> PETools directory
cd "C:\Program Files\Windows AIK\Tools\PETools"

Depending on the architecture of your image you will need to find the appropriate eftsboot.com file (either in amd64\boot or x86\boot)
oscdimg -b\amd64\boot\etfsboot.com -h -u2 -m -lVISTA_EN_DVD C:\windows-distribution\ C:\VISTA_EN_DVD.iso

If you'd just like to copy the language pack to a Windows distribution to enable a multilingual Windows operating system follow these steps:

ANVÄNDA PRODUKTEN. NI KAN DOCK RETURNERA DEN TILL ERT INKÖPSSTÄLLE,
VARVID KÖPET ÅTERGÅR OCH KÖPESKILLINGEN ÅTERBETALAS.

1. BEVILJANDE AV LICENS. Microsoft beviljar Er följande rättigheter,
under förutsättning att Ni uppfyller villkoren i Licensavtalet:

* Installation och användning. Ni har rätt att installera, använda,
ha tillgång till, visa och köra ett exemplar av Produkten på en
enskild dator, t ex en arbetsstation, terminal eller annan
anordning ("Arbetsstationsdator"). Produkten får inte användas
samtidigt av fler än två (2) processorer på en enskild
Arbetsstationsdator. Ni har rätt att tillåta högst tio (10) datorer
eller andra elektroniska anordningar (en dylik benämns "Anordning")
att ansluta till Arbetsstationsdatorn för att använda Produktens
tjänster endast för arkiv- och utskriftstjänster, Internet-
informationstjänster och fjärråtkomst (inklusive delad anslutning
och telefonitjänster). Begränsningen till maximalt tio (10)
anslutningar inkluderar eventuella indirekta anslutningar som görs
via "multiplexing"- eller annan programvara eller maskinvara för
delning eller sammanläggning av anslutningar. Med undantag för vad
som tillåts av funktionerna NetMeeting, Fjärrhjälp och
Fjärrskrivbord enligt nedan har Ni inte rätt att använda Produkten
för att låta en Anordning använda, ha tillgång till, visa eller
köra annan körbar programvara på Arbetsstationsdatorn. Ni har inte
heller rätt att låta en Anordning använda, ha tillgång till, visa
eller köra Produkten eller Produktens användargränssnitt, såvida
inte Anordningen har en separat licens för Produkten.

* Obligatorisk aktivering. De licensrättigheter som beviljas enligt
detta Licensavtal är begränsade till de första trettio (30) dagarna
efter den tidpunkt då Ni först installerade Produkten såvida inte
Ni lämnar den information som krävs för att aktivera Ert
licensierade exemplar på det sätt som beskrivs under installationen
av Produkten. Ni kan aktivera Produkten genom att använda Internet
eller telefon, debiteringsavgifter kan tillkomma. Ni kanske också
måste aktivera om Produkten om Ni modifierar maskinvaran eller
ändrar Produkten. I Produkten har vidtagits tekniska åtgärder för
att förhindra olicensierad eller otillåten användning av Produkten.
Ni accepterar att Microsoft kan använda sig av dessa åtgärder.

* Lagring/nätverksanvändning. Ni har också rätt att installera ett
exemplar av Produkten på en lagringsenhet, t ex en nätverksserver,
vilken endast används för att installera eller använda Produkten
på Era andra Arbetsstationsdatorer via ett internt nätverk. Ni
måste dock förvärva och tilldela en licens för varje enskild
Arbetsstationsdator på eller från vilken Produkten installeras,
används, visas eller körs. En licens för Produkten får inte delas
eller användas samtidigt på olika Arbetsstationsdatorer.

* Förbehåll för rättigheter. Microsoft förbehåller sig alla
rättigheter som inte uttryckligen beviljats Er i detta Licensavtal.

2. UPPGRADERINGAR. För att ha rätt att använda en Produkt som är en
uppgradering måste Ni inneha en licens att använda produkten som
enligt Microsoft berättigar till uppgraderingen. Efter
uppgraderingen har Ni inte längre rätt att använda produkten som
berättigade Er till uppgraderingen.

3. YTTERLIGARE PROGRAMVARA/TJÄNSTER. Detta Licensavtal gäller för
uppdateringar av, tillägg till, tilläggskomponenter eller
komponenter för Internetbaserade tjänster för Produkten som
Microsoft kan tillhandahålla Er efter det datum Ni förvärvade
Ert första exemplar av Produkten, såvida inte Microsoft
tillhandahåller andra villkor tillsammans med uppdateringen,
tillägget, tilläggskomponenten eller komponenten för Internet-
baserade tjänster. Microsoft förbehåller sig rätten att upphöra
med de Internetbaserade tjänster som tillhandahålls Er eller som
görs tillgängliga för Er genom användning av Produkten. Detta
Licensavtal beviljar Er inte rätten att använda "WMFSDK"-
komponenterna (Windows Media Format Software Development Kit) som
ingår i Produkten för att utveckla en programvaruapplikation som
använder Windows Media technology. Om Ni vill använda WMFSDK för
att utveckla en sådan applikation, besök
http://msdn.microsoft.com/workshop/imedia/windowsmedia/sdk/wmsdk.asp,
acceptera en separat licens för WMFSDK, hämta önskat WMFSDK och
installera den.

4. FÖRFLYTTNING - Intern. Ni har rätt att flytta Produkten till en
annan Arbetsstationsdator. Efter förflyttningen måste Ni helt ta
bort Produkten från den tidigare Arbetsstationsdatorn. Överlåtelse
till tredje part. Den första användaren av Produkten har rätt att
endast en gång överlåta Produkten till en annan slutanvändare. En
sådan överlåtelse skall innehålla samtliga komponenter, media,
skriftligt material, detta Licensavtal och, i förekommande fall,
Äkthetsbeviset. Överlåtelsen får inte ske indirekt, exempelvis via
ombud. Slutanvändaren som är mottagare av den överlåtna Produkten
måste acceptera alla villkor i detta Licensavtal före överlåtelsen.
Ingen uthyrning. Ni har inte rätt att hyra ut, leasa ut, låna ut
eller tillhandahålla kommersiella driftstjänster till tredje part
med Produkten.

5. REVERSE ENGINEERING, DEKOMPILERING M M. Ni har inte, förutom vad
som är uttryckligen tillåtet enligt lag, rätt att förändra,
dekompilera eller på annat sätt utnyttja koden till Produkten.

6. UPPSÄGNING. Microsoft har rätt att säga upp detta Licensavtal om
Ni bryter mot något av villkoren i Licensavtalet. I sådant fall
måste Ni förstöra samtliga exemplar av Produkten och samtliga
dess komponenter.

7. BESKRIVNING AV ÖVRIGA RÄTTIGHETER OCH BEGRÄNSNINGAR.

* NetMeeting/Fjärrhjälp/Fjärrskrivbord. Produkten innehåller
funktionerna NetMeeting, Fjärrhjälp och Fjärrskrivbord som gör
att Produkten eller andra program installerade på
Arbetsstationsdatorn kan fjärranvändas mellan två eller flera
datorer, även om Produkten eller programmet är installerat på
endast en Arbetsstationsdator. Ni har rätt att använda NetMeeting,
Fjärrhjälp och Fjärrskrivbord med alla Microsoft-produkter.
Användning av dessa funktioner med vissa Microsoft-produkter kan
dock kräva en ytterligare licens. Beträffande Microsoft-produkter
och icke-Microsoft-produkter finns information i licensavtalet
som medföljer den aktuella produkten. Ni kan också kontakta
aktuell licensgivare för att kontrollera att användning av
NetMeeting, Fjärrhjälp eller Fjärrskrivbord är tillåtet utan en
ytterligare licens.

* Medgivande till användning av data. Microsoft och dess
intressebolag har rätt att lagra och använda teknisk information
som inhämtats på något sätt i samband med eventuell produktsupport
till er avseende Produkten. Microsoft har rätt att använda denna
information endast för att förbättra sina produkter eller för att
tillhandahålla er anpassade tjänster eller tekniker. Microsoft har
rätt att avslöja denna information för andra, men inte på ett sätt
som avslöjar er identitet.

* Internet Gaming/Update. Om Ni väljer att använda Internet gaming
eller uppdateringsfunktionen (Update) som ingår i Produkten är det
nödvändigt att använda viss system-, maskinvaru- och
programvaruinformation för att implementera funktionerna. Genom
att Ni använder dessa funktioner tillåter Ni uttryckligen
Microsoft eller dess utsedda ombud att ha tillgång till och
använda den nödvändiga informationen för Internet gaming- och/eller
uppdateringsändamål. Microsoft har rätt att använda denna
information endast för att förbättra sina produkter eller för att
tillhandahålla er anpassade tjänster eller tekniker: Microsoft
har rätt att avslöja denna information för andra, men inte på ett
sätt som avslöjar er identitet.

* Komponenter för Internetbaserade tjänster. Produkten innehåller
komponenter som möjliggör och förenklar användningen av vissa
Internetbaserade tjänster. Ni accepterar att Microsoft automatiskt
kan kontrollera versionen av Produkten och/eller dess komponenter
som Ni använder och kan tillhandahålla uppgraderingar eller
korrigeringar för Produkten som automatiskt laddas ner på Er
Arbetsstationsdator.

* Säkerhetsuppdateringar. Leverantörer av innehåll använder
Microsofts DRM-teknologi (digital rights management technology)
som ingår i Produkten för att skydda integriteten hos deras
innehåll ("Säkrat innehåll") så att deras immaterialrättigheter,
inklusive upphovsrätt, till sådant innehåll inte kommer i någon
annans besittning. Ägare till sådant Säkrat innehåll ("Ägare till
säkrat innehåll") kan, då och då, begära att Microsoft
tillhandahåller säkerhetsrelaterade uppdateringar för Microsoft
DRM-komponenterna av Produkten ("Säkerhetsuppdateringar") som kan
påverka er möjlighet att kopiera, visa och/eller spela Säkrat
innehåll i programvara från Microsoft eller program från andra
leverantörer som använder Microsoft DRM. Om ni väljer att hämta
en licens från Internet som gör att ni kan använda Säkrat innehåll
accepterar ni att Microsoft, med en sådan licens, har rätt att
till er dator hämta sådana säkerhetsuppdateringar som en Ägare
av säkrat innehåll har begärt att Microsoft ska distribuera.
Microsoft kommer inte att hämta identitetsavslöjande information,
eller annan information, från er dator genom att hämta sådana
Säkerhetsuppdateringar.

8. PROGRAM SOM EJ FÅR ÅTERFÖRSÄLJAS. Om denna Produkt är märkt "Ej
För Återförsäljning" eller "EFÅ", har Ni inte rätt att
vidareförsälja, överlåta eller använda Produkten i annat än
demonstrations-, test- eller utvärderingssyfte.

9. UTBILDNINGSPROGRAMVARA (ACADEMIC EDITION). Om denna Produkt är
märkt "Utbildningsversion" eller "AE" (Academic Edition) måste Ni
vara en "Kvalificerad Utbildningsanvändare" för att ha rätt att
använda den. Kontakta Microsoft Sales Information Center/
One Microsoft Way/Redmond, WA 98052-6399/USA eller Microsofts
dotterbolag i Ert land för kvalifikationsrelaterade frågor.

10. EXPORTRESTRIKTIONER.
Ni är införstådd med att Produkten kommer från USA och omfattas av
USA:s lagar beträffande export. Ni accepterar att rätta Er efter
all tillämplig internationell och nationell lagstiftning avseende
Produkten, inklusive U.S. Export Administration Regulations och
begränsningar utfärdade av amerikanska och andra myndigheter
avseende slutanvändare, slutanvändning och destination. För
ytterligare information, se .

11. INGET GARANTIANSVAR. Den begränsade garanti som anges nedan är den
enda uttryckliga garanti Ni erhåller och gäller i stället för alla
andra uttryckliga garantier som kan ha förekommit i dokumentation,
förpackningar eller annan information. Med undantag av den
begränsade garantin och vad som följer av tvingande lag,
tillhandahåller Microsoft och dess leverantörer Produkten samt
eventuella supporttjänster I BEFINTLIGT SKICK, och friskriver sig
från allt ytterligare garantiansvar avseende Produkten, såväl
uttryckligen som underförstått, inklusive eventuella garantier
eller skyldigheter avseende Produktens allmänna lämplighet eller
lämplighet för ett särskilt ändamål, korrekta och fullständiga
svar, resultat, fackmannamässigt utförande, frånvaro av virus
eller frånvaro av vårdslöshet, eller tillhandahållande av eller
uteblivna supporttjänster eller andra tjänster, information,
programvara och relaterat innehåll genom Produkten eller som på
annat sätt uppstått genom användning av Produkten. INGA GARANTIER
LÄMNAS HELLER AVSEENDE ÄGANDERÄTTIGHETER, BESITTNING,
ÖVERENSSTÄMMELSE MED BESKRIVNING ELLER FRÅNVARO AV INTRÅNG I
TREDJE MANS RÄTTIGHETER AVSEENDE PRODUKTEN.

12. BEGRÄNSNING AV ANSVAR FÖR INDIREKTA SKADOR, FÖLJDSKADOR OCH ANDRA
SKADOR. MED UNDANTAG AV VAD SOM FÖLJER AV TVINGANDE LAG, ANSVARAR
MICROSOFT ELLER DESS LEVERANTÖRER UNDER INGA OMSTÄNDIGHETER FÖR
INDIREKTA SKADOR, FÖLJDSKADOR ELLER NÅGRA SOM HELST ANDRA SKADOR
(INKLUSIVE PERSONSKADA, UTEBLIVEN VINST, DRIFTAVBROTT, FÖRLUST AV
KONFIDENTIELL ELLER ANNAN INFORMATION, INTEGRITETSSKADA, SKADA
ORSAKAD AV BRISTANDE UPPFYLLELSE AV FÖRPLIKTELSE (INKLUSIVE MED
ANLEDNING AV GOD TRO ELLER SKÄLIG AKTSAMHET), SKADA ORSAKAD AV
VÅRDSLÖSHET TILL FÖLJD AV ANVÄNDNING AV ELLER SVÅRIGHET ELLER
OMÖJLIGHET ATT ANVÄNDA PRODUKTEN, TILLHANDAHÅLLANDE AV ELLER
UTEBLIVEN SUPPORT ELLER ANDRA TJÄNSTER, INFORMATION, PROGRAMVARA
OCH RELATERAT INNEHÅLL GENOM PRODUKTEN ELLER PÅ ANNAT SÄTT TILL
FÖLJD AV ANVÄNDNING AV PRODUKTEN, ELLER ANNARS I SAMBAND MED
DENNA LICENS, OAVSETT RÄTTSLIG GRUND OCH OAVSETT EVENTUELLT
KONTRAKTSBROTT, INKLUSIVE BROTT MOT GARANTIVILLKOR AV MICROSOFT
ELLER NÅGON LEVERANTÖR, ÄVEN OM MICROSOFT ELLER NÅGON LEVERANTÖRER
UPPMÄRKSAMMATS PÅ RISKEN FÖR SÅDANA SKADOR.

13. LÄNKAR TILL TREDJEPARTSWEBBPLATSER. Ni har rätt att länka till
tredjepartswebbplatser genom att använda Produkten.
Tredjepartswebbplatserna kontrolleras inte av Microsoft och
Microsoft ansvarar inte för innehållet på några
tredjepartswebbplatser, länkar som ingår på tredjepartswebbplatser
eller ändringar eller uppdateringar av tredjepartswebbplatser.
Microsoft ansvarar inte för webcasting eller någon annan form av
sändning från tredjepartswebbplatser. Microsoft tillhandahåller
Er endast dessa länkar till tredjepartswebbplatser som en extra
förmån och medtagande av länkar innebär inte att Microsoft stödjer
tredjepartswebbplatsen.

14. ANSVARSBEGRÄNSNING. Oavsett vilka skador Ni orsakas och oavsett
orsak (inklusive samtliga skador som anges ovan och i den
begränsade garantin samt samtliga direkta eller ekonomiska
skador), är Microsofts och dess leverantörers totala ansvar under
villkoren i detta Licensavtal (med undantag av reparation eller
utbyte av Microsoft i samband med brott mot villkor i den
begränsade garantin) begränsad till det större av antingen det
belopp som faktiskt erlagts av Er för Produkten eller USD 5,00.
Ovanstående ansvarsbegränsningar och friskrivningar (inklusive
punkt 11 och 12 ovan och enligt vad som anges i Begränsad garanti)
gäller om inte annat följer av tvingande lag, även om en påföljd
därmed förlorar sitt huvudsakliga syfte.

15. TILLÄMPLIG LAG. Om Ni förvärvade denna Produkt i Sverige är svensk
lag tillämplig på detta Licensavtal. Om denna Produkt förvärvades
utanför Sverige kan lokal lag vara tillämplig.

16. HELA AVTALET. Detta Licensavtal (inklusive eventuella tillägg til
Licensavtalet som medföljer Produkten) utgör hela avtalet mellan
Er och Microsoft avseende Produkten och eventuella supporttjänster
och dessa ersätter alla tidigare eller samtidiga muntliga eller
skriftliga meddelanden, förslag och uppgifter avseende Produkten
eller något annat som omfattas av detta Licensavtal. Om några
bestämmelser för Microsofts supporttjänster står i konflikt med
villkoren i detta Licensavtal, skall villkoren i detta Licensavtal
gälla.

17. Produkten skyddas av upphovsrättslig lagstiftning samt andra
immaterialrättsliga lagar och konventioner. Äganderätten,
upphovsrätten och de immateriella rättigheterna till Produkten
tillkommer Microsoft eller dess leverantörer. Produkten säljs
inte, den licensieras.

LAND HÄNVISAS TILL DEN GARANTIBROSCHYR SOM MEDFÖLJER DENNA FÖRPACKNING
ELLER ÅTERFINNS I DET SKRIFTLIGA MATERIALET TILL PROGRAMVARUPRODUKTEN.

Midori is the code name for a managed code operating system being developed by Microsoft Research. It has been reported^[1]^[2] to be a possible commercial implementation of the Singularity operating system, a research project started in 2003 to build a highly-dependable operating system in which the kernel, device drivers, and applications are all written in managed code. It was designed for concurrency, and can run applications in multiple places.^[3] It also features an entirely new security model that sandboxes applications for increased security.^[4] Microsoft has mapped out several possible migration paths from Windows to Midori.^[5] In a possible link to Microsoft’s Oslo composite application initiative, the programming model will have a dependence on metadata, with the aim of allowing the system to more reliably manage applications.^[6]

The code name Midori was first discovered through the PowerPoint presentation CHESS: A systematic testing tool for concurrent software.^[7]

It is also the Japanese word for 'Green'

Midori has also been rumoured by some IT journalists as a possible replacement to Microsoft Windows^[2] and Windows CE.^[8]

In April 2009, Jonathan S. Shapiro, a driving force behind both the BitC programming language and the Coyotos operating systemannounced that he had accepted a position at Microsoft to work on the Midori project, and that after August 2009 he would not be working further on BitC.

Med Snow Leopard, nästa större version av världens mest avancerade operativsystem, ändrar Mac OS X mer än fläckarna på pälsen, det byter fokus. Microsoft Exchange-stöd

Snow Leopard innehåller ett fixat och färdigt stöd för Microsoft Exchange 2007 inbyggt i Mail, Adressbok och iCal. Mac OS X använder protokollet Exchange Web Services som ger tillgång till Exchange Server 2007. Eftersom Exchange stöds på din Mac och iPhone kommer du att kunna använda dem var som helst med full tillgång till e-post, kontakter och kalender.

64 bitar

För att bättre kunna hantera de enorma mängder minne som ingår i avancerad maskinvara utökar Snow Leopard 64-bitarstekniken i Mac OS X så att den stöder banbrytande mängder RAM-minne – upp till teoretiska 16 TB, eller 500 gånger mer än vad som är möjligt idag. Mer RAM-minne gör att program går snabbare eftersom fler instruktioner kan rymmas i det snabba RAM-minnet istället för på den betydligt långsammare hårddisken.

Flera kärnor

”Grand Central” är en ny uppsättning tekniker inbyggda i Snow Leopard som ger Mac OS X ett oöverträffat stöd för flerkärniga datorer. Det är fler kärnor istället för snabbare klockhastigheter som ger prestandaökningarna i dagens processorer. Grand Central drar full nytta av detta genom att anpassa hela Mac OS X för flera kärnor och optimera det för att tilldela bearbetningar till flera kärnor och processorer. Grand Central underlättar även för utvecklare att skapa program som verkligen utnyttjar kraften hos flerkärniga datorer.

Medier och Internet

Snow Leopard drar nytta av medietekniker som först använts i OS X iPhone och introducerar QuickTime X, en strömlinjeformad plattform för nästa generation som driver utvecklingen framåt för moderna medie- och Internetstandarder. QuickTime X har optimerat stöd för moderna kodekar och effektivare medieuppspelning, vilket gör det perfekt för alla program som behöver kunna spela upp medieinnehåll.

Eftersom Snow Leopard ger den snabbaste tillämpningen hittills av JavaScript blir webbprogram effektivare. Safari kör JavaScript upp till 53 procent snabbare med Snow Leopard.*

OpenCL

En annan kraftfull teknik i Snow Leopard, OpenCL (Open Compute Library), gör det möjligt för utvecklare att effektivt utnyttja de oerhörda mängder gigaflop av beräkningskraft som idag är låsta i grafikprocessorn. Windows 7 is the next version of the Windows client operating system. This version incorporates hundreds of improvements based on your feedback. It works the way you want: it's responsive, reliable, and runs smoothly. It starts and shuts down faster, and is designed to make your battery last longer. Plus, it's really easy to connect to things you care about—from people to printers. You'll also be able to do everyday things faster, from getting around the desktop and managing open windows, to finding files and programs, and using the web. We hope you love it, because it's got your fingerprints all over it.
This is a very important question. The Windows 7 Beta will expire on August 1, 2009 and the RC will expire on July 1, 2010. To avoid interruption, you'll need to rebuild your test machine using a valid version of Windows before the software expires. Windows will notify you that the expiration process is beginning, and two weeks later your PC will begin shutting down every two hours.
The RC is free and will be available at least through July 2009. However, because Microsoft isn't providing technical support for the the RC, we strongly recommend that only experienced computer users sign up. How experienced? At minimum, you should be comfortable backing up a computer, formatting a hard drive, burning an ISO file to DVD, and installing an operating system from scratch. You should also be comfortable troubleshooting problems on your own.
You help just by using it. That's because the Windows 7 RC automatically reports crashes and bugs to Microsoft over the Internet. The information sent in automatic reporting is called "telemetry." Our engineers updated Windows 7 based on Beta test results. During the Release Candidate phase, they use the telemetry data to verify that the fixes and changes they made are working correctly.

Leopard är världens mest avancerade operativsystem. Så avancerat att du faktiskt kan köra Windows om det finns ett PC-program du behöver använda. Skaffa bara ett Windows-exemplar och starta Boot Camp, som nu ingår i Leopard. Installationen är enkel och okomplicerad - precis som du väntar dig av en Mac.

Kör Windows i full fart.

Boot Camp fungerar med de flesta vanliga 32-bitars versioner av Windows XP och Windows Vista. När du använder något av operativsystemen på din Mac kan du köra Windows-programmen i full fart. Windows-program har full tillgång till flera processorer och flera processorkärnor, accelererad 3D-grafik och snabba anslutningsmöjligheter som USB, FireWire, Wi-Fi och gigabit Ethernet.
