Hi everybody..

I have been home for a little while. I'm not sure how long. but i guess long enough to have cleaned and baked a few delicious things and feel like a normal person.
Just so you know, there is a video for Paper Airplane coming out this monday. It's a song from Buck 65's new album "20 odd years" and i was lucky to be a part of a few songs in this project in the writing and singing department.
i know honeymoon punch has only been out since January 11th but i am already starting to get a writing/recording fever where i want to get away from my mailbox and internet and instead curl up with a box? of wine (to share of course!) in a cabin somewhere locked away. spring is the best time for singing. and my favorite time to record.

I am writing to you from a hotel room that I am crashing.

We're here for Nova Scotia Music Week.... I met some peeps, a sound man was fired... wines were drank.....
I've been trying to do the internet related things, so that I can be a part of the new amazing future with you, but myspace has been driving me crazy. So. i'm sorry if there is a stranger rapping to you if you visit the site, i'm working on it. Why so weird myspace? I hear it's going under..
anyway. bla bla bla.
There are some maritime dates coming up, to keep us happy before the new record drops in january.

In October I made an EP in the kitchen. It's a limited edition - of the individually painted homeade variety- but you can also get it on ITunes.
I can't remember if I told you that one of the songs is by my friend Tanya Davis. I think I did, but it's ok because it's worth repeating.

I plan to go to all of your towns once January hits.
Honeymoon Punch is coming out on January 11th. 11/01/11

Hellloo!
I have finished and sold the first set of abstract paintings, and i am getting a lot of emails about prices. So i am just going to list them here and you can email me if you like one- because i'll be doing another batch to be ready just before christmas.
Also i will post some pictures soon.
Prices are as follows. But you can make your own measurements up. It comes to be about $1 per every square inch.

14 x 18 = $250
16 x 20= $320
20x 24= $500
24 x 30 = $700
30 x 36 = $1000

In other news, the album is getting mastered in less than 2 weeks.

in more news, I am obsessed with Mad Men.

The end is near for bells i hear

Hi.

Here i am.
It has been many moons, or a lifetime or so since I have been on the road.
But i have made you a new record. It's almost done. It will be out in February. You can listen to it then if you like, when the snow is fallen. Or falling.

it's a joyful, fun, exciting record. To me anyway. I hope you like it but it's okay if you don't. but it would be so great if you just do without any pressure. and that you are might want to dance a little bit or just feel really happy. I just want you to feel really happy.

To make sure that the Universe is still in balance with happy and sad, my livingroom is covered in litte painted cd pockets- half painted so far. Inside the cd pockets I am going to put an EP of a few weepy willow songs. oh, maybe i should call it that.
I was going to call it "Songs for summer nights"
but it won't be available til the fall. Because that's the next time I will be on tour - in October with my lovely and talented friend Justin Rutledge... So we thought maybe to call it "Songs for Starry Nights"

But what about songs for weeping willows?

or songs for starry nights and weeping willows.
no, that's crazy.

well anyway.

One of the songs I am recording is by my very very good friend Tanya Davis. You can check out her songs and poems at www.tanyadavis.ca
She is also currently experiencing a craze of You Tube stardom, due to a very beautiful video she made with Andrea Dorfman (also in Halifax) called "How to be alone".

So Tanya is one of my favorite people, with or without you tube! (in this case, we love you tube!) And I think you should go see her play sometime. it is very special and heartwarming. You should sit up close and listen but sometimes you will laugh or snap your fingers.

This week I just got back from 6 days of Back country camping, and i turned 30, and i am also getting married now. i am engaged. i am engaged to be married!

and my fiance Dan the man Ledwell is who produced this happy forthcoming record of ours.
he will also be hitting the "record" button tonight in the kitchen or basement.
But that is all he is going to do because I really feel like making something very minimal.
I'm sure he does to.

There will be wine anyway so it will be great. He is a great producer, as well as wine handler.

I hope you are all doing well this summer. I miss you. And I miss your beautiful faces.
I miss you so much that I am losing my mind. See you again right?

Symphony calling

our tour ended at the olympics with just enough time to fly home for 2 rehearsals for our show with the symphony tonight. I am so very tired though i won't be tonight, and need a rest, but wanted to say i am so excited slash (oh my god) feeling about the show tonight.
i am reading anne murray's autiobiography right now and listening to her records this afternoon. very interesting woman indeed.

Hello!

I have just woken from a great sleep. It didn't start off great because my arms are always cold because cold air shoots from the back of the bus and onto my uncovered arms. Where is my sweater? It shrunk. yes it did. but Kinley Dowling, she gave me her sweater last night. And then I slept like a dream.
Today, Shelley our tour manager is doing something great again. She is currently booking a badminton court for us to rock the badminton off of regina. I have played Badminton a few times with teenagers. I remember it being very enjoyable. I hope Regina's Badminton experience does not disappoint!
We've had some lovely shows since I wrote last. In Thunder Bay I forgot the lyrics to the cover song we were doing and so on the spot we created a song called.. Thunder Bay.
Last night we played in Winnipeg which is always nice, and got to meet up with a few old friends.
So I don't know what Regina is like yet. All I can see is snow and a couple of trucks out this window, but I've got high hopes.
And I'm on the look out for a little paper paracelle.
I don't know if Regina will have one of these though.

Beautiful Freezing Quebec

hello Dearests,

Quebec city is a beautiful crisp town full of beautiful things and people and freezing cold air that will freeze your face into one place.
We are currently at sound check, and I wait for my turn. but today is especially exciting. I lost my microphone somehow in Nfld but I guess it wasn't meant to be, because today I found my real microphone..i hope! it was quite $$$ (perdiems, put to good use) It's a rode (road?) condenser mic. it is also silver. it sounded good in the store. Lets see what happens!
The other night we went for dinner on our night off to the only place open we could find. We dined on vietnamese and bring your own wine. and boy did we wine and dine. it was very fun, especially when Shelley our tour manager who was in a touring theater group previous to this showed us how she could magically turn into a monster. it was amazing, and I fed her a peice of paper which she ate like a lizard.
After the show tonight we're sleeping in the bus for our first night/sleeping drive.
To Wakefield, Quebec- to the Blacksheep Inn! My favorite venue, quite possibly.
This venue, Le Cercle, is awesome too. A club show. We go on at 11. More like the old days, it's going to be fun!
My french is not the best, but i like to speak it. And today it got me a tirimasu tea. So good.
Sorry I don't have pictures. I guess I don't know what I'm doing yet. Soon I hope.

On the Bus

We are riding on the bus.. the motorcoach.. and have just left Fredericton, NB and today we will be driving for 7 hours or so on our way to Quebec City. (so far we've played Wolfville, St.John's, and Charlottetown and they were all great nights) Last night felt magical. I love playing at the Charlotte Street Art Center. And the audience in Fredericton is always really fun and supportive- last night was probably my favorite show there yet. I like the wooden stage there, and the feeling of the old school. But I am really excited to get to Quebec City. It's a very romantic town, right?! And we will be there for 3 nights! Tomorrow's a day off and I'm hoping to find some cozy dimly lit restaurant where there might be delicious food and good wine. I don't think that will be too hard to find. It's really wonderful having the whole band with me this time. I love playing the songs with them, they are bringing elements to the music that I can't do on my own. It's definitely not lonely this tour since there are 11 of us including Jason Plumb's band. And Shelley our tour manager has turned out to be "fabulous".
I will hopefully post some pictures of the bus soon. We need to do that anyway for Kinley's mom- who is a teacher in PEI and her class is following us from her classroom while we tour. And they are pretty interested in what the bus looks like. (grade 3) So maybe you are too! So, pictures soon. I can show you my little bunk (which is not as little as David's, Sean's or Mike's..)

Dan and I have been listening to Laura Veirs' new album "July Flame" and it's making me want to paint her something and send it in the snail mail. So i think i will, and get it in the post before we leave for the crossing of the Canada....
Today is Kinley's birthday and she shall be 27.
I am making her a lactose free cake with lemon boiled icing. And we will watch movies tonight with Tara and Rose.
I have been writing a bit.... a bit for the symphony with Buck 65.... and for the next album. I miss the ocean though and kind of want to run away to there and write there.
Today I'm meeting Erin Costello for a piano lesson. I think I am bringing Charlie, the new puppy, to meet her dog Mason who is much bigger. So who knows what will get done?
Charlie is amazing. I will miss him when we go away, but I'm getting excited to see Canada through a window rolling by. And will get to see some friends who are living far from Nova Scotia. The whole band is coming, and Dan is coming as our sound person as well.
We will be locking up the house and turning off the twinkly lights on January 27th.
I was talking to Meaghan Smith the other night and she has made little paintings for her merch. She said it was okay to steal her idea of amazing gold and so today I'm copying her by going to a craft store and buying tiny tiny frames..... I'm hoping to paint on the bus... and do some yoga. Do you think that's possible? i think so. i will let you know.

Hello Again

hello! from...albany! Kinley and I have been playing shows in Chicago, Pittsfield, and tomorrow we are headed back to NYC to play with Hawksley Workman. It's been a very nice tour. We've met lovely people and today we hiked through a wildlife reservation park and visited a Yoga retreat in Massachussets. We've visited Times Square and Central Park on John Lennon's birthday with Sean and David and on saturday night played to the most wonderful home crowd in Halifax with everyone. (Mike Belyea took a train down to play drums and it was grand) It made all the travelling seem worthwhile again.
Just a few more shows to go and then it's home for a few weeks! I've certainly been writing songs and getting things ready to the next record, but that won't be for a while. I think songs will be written while snowflakes are falling.
Hope everyone is dressing up for Halloween!

Summer calling

dear everyone,

we had a very nice tour this past month and have been home for five days and are hitting the road again in the morning. Between our shows this month in Ontario we will sometimes be camping so you might hear a bit about that.
I planted a garden this week but I'm not done. I was going to plant flowers in a desk drawer but it's very dark outside now and it doesn't feel the same. the soil is a little too cold on my feet.
I guess it will have to wait til i am home again at the end of the month.
I also lost my computer in calgary but i think it's coming back to me in the mail.
I do have a GPS system, though i have yet to build an emotional attachment to any of the voices they offer without downloading new ones.

Also this weekend i was recording some things on Buck 65's next album. we have co written a few songs and i am very, very excited about it! Rich is amazing. I have never co written before. he is the best. It is very cool but i was not the greatest today as I was singing and dancing and screaming at the Joel Plaskett show last night at Alderney Landing losing my voices and didn't sleep that well. two very fabulous young men though.

I guess i should continue packing things until my suitcase is too heavy.

Maybe I will see you at one of these summer festivals, or maybe you will be working at a gas station when I am asking for directions with Kinley and we are buying vitamin waters.

Oh, I am so happy. My album is coming out on February 3rd. It's called Echoes. We recorded it this summer at Puck's Farm in Ontario.

It's all happening!

The snow is falling in Halifax and it's beautiful. I'm hibernating for the rest of the month til we hit the road. I hope you can come out to a show. See you soon! xoxoxox

well hello.

it is a day off today you know and i have been listening to music and eating cookies and perhaps spending too much time looking up stuff about the beatles.

The cookies are chocolate chip oatmeat with coconut.

the whole band is getting back today and tomorrow morning we are going back to the farm for a few days.

toronto is quite a big city. it's too big for me actually so i am reading all the time.

recording is very good because it changes the way i listen to music. i can hear all the parts. and i am listening to so much today that my brain is going to explode into a little star.

i am writing to you from a basement in toronto.

it's a nice basement though.

i am listening to pretty music and soon my head is going to fall on my pillow.

and when I wake up i'm going to sing out all the memories that are floating around in my head from this year, and the year before that, and the year before that.

i think i was in pei for the right amount of days.

it was just enough to fill up my soul with some hugs.

and maybe i will wrap them up around songs and send them off to tape.

ok, i don't know if this is going to work. i just wanted to write out some things while making the record so everyone could share a little bit. so, maybe this will work. sean was going to show me how but he has gone to ... TORONTO!!! But he's coming back, so he says. Dave, Kinley and I are just hanging out in our bunk bed palace which is located above the studio at puck's farm. we love it here.

maybe you should know we're playing with a drummer named gary craig. he is so great.

and jonathan goldsmith is producing the record. i love jonathan.

and walter is the engineer. he has great moves.

and sheena and friends are bringing us sandwiches from sheena's lunch place.

and that we are eating way too many smarties.

we have done four songs in the last four days.

everything is going to tape.

i am using a microphone that bob dylan might have used in NYC one time ago.

i am playing jonathan's old gibson that his friend finally gave to him for his 50th birthday.

there are lama's here. they have funny mouths. are they trying to kiss us or bite us? or are they just hungry? if anyone knows, we'd love to know.

it seems like out of all the animals, that the lama is the most curious and/or suspicious of us.

I haven't yet been able to get to know all of the farm animals, but so far, this lama (if it is a lama) is the one i really love. maybe i can find out some more information on this and tell you tomorrow. such as, is he or she a lama? what is the name of this little friend? i'm probably allergic to him so i'm going to have to dress up in a space outfit. i think he/she is sleeping right now.

we are listening to music.

we have flashlights.

when you go downstairs in the middle of the night there are cats meowing.

we are making a record. it's the best august ever.
