For the past few years one of the biggest topics in America has been our education system. We hear talks about how it’s a huge scam, it has failed our children etc. Plenty of documentaries have come out showing the education boards corruption and how it’s not about the kids it’s about the money they recieve.

Don’t get me wrong these arguments are valid and the facts are presented well, but I haven’t seen many answers to fix this mess. For one, not all the schools in this country private or public are corrupt. I refuse to believe that at all because there are good people as well as bad people in any profession period. During this recession many college graduates have failed to find jobs and some have. But, of course our media will only show one side of the story, which are the kids who are graduating with a lot of college debt and no job. It is hard for me to have sympathy for anyone who graduates college with debt and can’t find a job.

For some reason these students thought that if they went to school and graduated a job will magically appear. Those same people will be the same one to tell me that I am lucky to have a job after school. Lucky? I refuse to call my success luck at all. I worked my butt off to be where I am today. And if you look at my background I am from the same “hood” a lot of people use as an excuse for not succeeding.

One thing I do believe is that colleges & schools in general do not focus the student on a field where they will more than likely be successful. Successful meaning having a career and etc. A lot of kids go to school and think “oh I like that so I will major in that subject”. In that whole process not one person thinks “will this get me a good career?”. I personally feel that one question will help reduce some of these horrible numbers we have seen for unemployment among the youth.
Another helpful tip in seeking employment would be to check outside of ones bubble (city, state). When a young adult graduates from college, they most likely move back in with their parents to start their new journey. I am sure very few ever look outside their hometown to seek employment even if it is garunteed to be a huge struggle. I don’t have all the answers, but those two things I feel will help a huge deal. I know many people say that our economy is horrible blah blah blah, but have you looked at other states in America? There are plenty of cities & states that have great economies and are creating jobs. When it comes down to it people need to think outside the box and be willing to make changes as times change. I know that one day for a fact the languages I use to code on the web will change. I am more than willing to keep learning whatever I need to learn to stay at the top of my profession.

One thing that my points and assumptions won’t help is the laziness factor. A lot of people within our country have become extremely lazy and have more time for television shows than to study to help improve themselves. They know the timetable for the latest shows, latest sneakers and video games, but have no idea what profession is in need of workers within the job market. Nothing stays the same and you must be willing to change or get left back. The market has no sympathy for the weak. I remember when I graduated from my university I refused to leave my mothers apartment before I got a job/interview. My friends would IM me or call me and say I was crazy to stay in for that or I should enjoy life. I still kept at it and literally stayed in and on my computer everyday until what I wanted happened. It worked and things started to change for the better.

I sit in a way better position that I was in five years ago and those same memories are what keep me humble. These are just my random thoughts I usually have and felt I should share them. Hopefully this motivates someone to keep pushing and reach for that goal. Also, hopefully this will help current students pay more attention to their major and job market. We will see.

Ever since my days at my College C.W Post LIU, I have benfitted from great service of a Credit Union. They didn’t charge crazy fees and I felt my money was safer because they are Not for profit and their profits came to me a member not some investor.

Here we are in 2010 and a lot of people are jumping on the bandwagon and pushing this move your money campaign. I think this is great and hopefully everyone takes the info and move their money away from theses huge evil banks.

Im tired of hearing the complaining of these Banks stupidity and want to see all of us take action. We do have choices and power. You can check out the campaign at Move Your Money and read up on it. If you are looking to join a Credit Union please go to “Find a Credit Union” to see which ones are close by and which ones you qualify for. Also, if you are one of those people who think Credit Unions don’t have as much Branches to service you. Please check out CU Service Centers to locate all shared branching for your credit union. This service gives you branch access is any state or country and is a great help to us members. Enjoy and switch now.

TomTom $99 GPS app heads to iPhone
Of course this is a game changer. especially for the millions of iphone owners. Just a download a way you can have a gps system. Now will more companies follow their lead? I think they should, this gives people more options.

I feel that with websites like Flickr or Facebook our “personal” moments aren’t personal at all anymore. People fail to realize that uploading any pictures to these third party sites isn’t always the smartest thing to do. I realized this even more when I have been asked to see my wedding pics so many times by someone that really doesn’t need to see them anyway. So from this point on I refuse to upload any personal pics on Facebook and will only upload those pics to my personal server. Even a “personal server” or sending an email isn’t that personal being we have to use a third party site.

I was also inspired and impressed with my favorite browser Opera new add on called Opera Unite. They made things simple by taking away the third party websites and made it possible for two computers to share content with eachother directly from a web browser. To some this might sound weird, but trust me this will make a persons life so much easier. I’m not saying that this should replace all third party sites, but we shouldn’t trust so many with so much personal info. For that matter using Opera Unite is still using something third party, but obviously it’s a lot different from uploading my personal content onto a server that later stays with them even if I think I deleted that photo or info.

We assume the best, but that’s still a chance we are all taking. Opera Unite at least brings it up and gives everyone a choice. The more choices we all have the better. I think Opera Unite will make a lot of third party vendors upset and I can careless. At the end of the day it’s all about the consumer and making them feel safe. What do you guys think?

So it’s officially a year since Carmen and I moved to Austin and it doesn’t even feel that long. I must say that it’s an amazing feeling when you accomplish the goals you set in such a short time. Carmen and I were fed up living in our home town Brooklyn, NY because we couldn’t get a decent apartment, and just felt that we outgrew the place. Within a year I got a cool job paying a wage I deserved, carmen got herself a car and is a driver, we got an amazing apartment, we got our puppy Brooklyn and we got married.

Yup I said it, we got married. Besides all those things the most important thing is the fact that we got peace of mind. That is the most precious gift a man can recieve to me personally. I would like to thank my family and friends because without their support non of this would be done so easily. Also with our current social technology because that has made our transition easier too.

Answer is no. So there goes another waste of budget money that could go to actually improving their web experience and maybe even create a mobile site. Get it together marketers for you will always fail if you just jump to the new thing without common sense.

Now really Austin? Look we are in a recession and beginning part of a depression. Spending 8.4 million on these new parking kiosks is stupid. The old ones cost you 500,000 in fines because they were broken, but who cares? How does that justify getting new ones for that amount of money now? Also, you want to make people pay for parking later in the day, so instead of free parking after 5:30pm it will be Midnight and also no more free parking on saturday. All this will do is make people who come out to eat on a weekend in downtown basically stay in North Austin and this will create money losses for the local businesses and retaraunts, which make the ustin culture in the first place. It seems liek lately that since Brarack Obama has been in office every state, city, banks and Government have been spending stupid ammounts of money. This will not help anything at this time, so get it together idiots!

I think this article brings up a great point in usability and the many netbooks out there. I was thinking of purchasing one lately for a family member, but as much as I love the price and cool size, it seems just too small to do certain work on it even if someone is on a budget. To me if these developers are going to create custom OSs for these netbooks no problem, but wouldnt that just make the netbook a bigger version of a mobile device like the iPhone, blackberry and etc. Most people want to use it as an extension of their desktop to get work done on the road, but in a much smaller package than most laptops. I still think they are usefull for some students and etc, but from the picture above I just see mobile and that to me is a turn off when it comes to any for of computer system because I already have a phone than can do that. I know the Netbook isnt a Notebook, but its still supposed to offer more to me than just a bigger screen and storage space.

If you do have a Blackberry or iPhone try out these cool eBook readers and you will realize why I make that statement.

So many times I hear people say “oh the iPhone is just pretty blah blah”, but that’s the point it is pretty and its also a great device. In this business we learn that without some type of glamor the device will lack appeal to the general public even though its a great device on its own. Has anyone willingly wanted to purchase a G1 lately? exactly. The iPhone is pretty with its glossy icons and etc, but the applications bring so much to it that its makes someone’s life simple by having everything in one device. Well that’s my rant on this for the day, let me know what apps are the best ones.
