A colleague of mine recently asked me if it was possible to install the Xen Hypervisor on the VMware Hypervisor. The answer, of course is yes you can install it. However, don’t expect to run any virtual machines on the Xen hypervisor instance. The reason this is not possible is that Xen requires Intel-VT or AMD-V hardware assisted virtualization to function.

This functionality is reserved for the actual Hypervisor that is installed on the physical hardware. The Virtual Machines themselves do not see these advanced processor features. No Virtualized Intel-VT, no Xen VM’s running.

So, technically you can install Xen. However, you will not be able to run any virtual machines on it once you do. What would be the point? Happy Virtualizing.

Here’s how to get it back.

1- Install iTunes 10.1
2- Download AirPrint.zip (airprint.exe, libairprint.dll, XpdfPrint.dll)
3- Unzip it.
4- Make a folder, “C:\Program Files (x86)\AirPrint\”
5- Copy the files to “C:\Program Files (x86)\AirPrint\”
6- Run “cmd.exe” as administrator
7- Run the following commands (There should be a space between ‘=’ and ‘”‘)

Windows 64bits:
sc.exe create AirPrint binPath= “C:\Program Files (x86)\AirPrint\airprint.exe -s” depend= “Bonjour Service” start= auto
sc.exe start AirPrint

Windows 32bits:
sc.exe create AirPrint binPath= “C:\Program Files\AirPrint\airprint.exe -s” depend= “Bonjour Service” start= auto
sc.exe start AirPrint

8- Let Windows Firewall allow AirPrint to communicate on the networks (Double click on the airprint.exe)

I recently started a Tumblr Blog to have an online place to store my Fun PowerShell Code Snippets. I wanted to track subscribers with Feedburner so I claimed my feed. I just needed to figure out how to add the new Feed URL to my Tumblr Blog template. The solution is actually quite easy. After some googling, I found the excellent Tumblr Hacks Tumblr Blog.

Basically, all you do is:

• Open up Customize, Theme, enable custom HTML
• Then in your HTML replace all the { RSS } tags with the URL for your Feedburner feed

Recently, I helped a customer restore a SQL Server 2005 database. The only problem was that the default restore was leaving the database in Standby / Read-only mode. The solution to this problem was really quite simple. After some googling I came across this MSDN Thread.

Basically to restore the database from a backup and put it back into production mode, just run the following SQL query:

RESTORE DATABASE <database_name> FROM <full_backup> WITH RECOVERY;

My wife loves her MAC. Ever since we switched her to it from a PC, I have not had to do tech support at home. However, sometimes even MACs do strange things. My wife noticed that not all of the pictures were showing up in her iPhoto Library. I took a look and was about to resort to the daily backup that we do on her MAC.

However, Google came to the rescue again. After a quick search, I found the answer on the Apple Forums. Basically, I had to rebuild the iPhoto database by taking these steps:

• Launch iPhoto with the Command + Option keys depressed.
• Follow the onscreen instructions to rebuild the iPhoto database and thumbnail cache.

That’s it! After about 10 Minutes the iPhoto database had been rebuilt and the pictures were showing up again. Happy Photo browsing!

• Cannot delete file: Access is denied
• There has been a sharing violation.
• The source or destination file may be in use.
• The file is in use by another program or user.
• Make sure the disk is not full or write-protected and that the file is not currently in use.

I found a slick utility today that will help you release the locks on a file and solve this problem without having to reboot your PC. It’s called Unlocker.

• Look for a *.vmx file in the directory that your VM is stored in.
• Open up this file in notepad or your favorite text editor (make sure the VM is shut down).
• Look for a line that looks like this: memsize = “256″
• Change the number to equal the amount of RAM that you want in your VM
• Start the VM and enjoy your new RAM

So there you have it. Just edit a simple text file and your VM has more RAM. Happy Virtualizing!

If any of you have ever worked with offline folders in Windows, you know how frustrating it is when a server changes or is no longer available and Windows still tries to keep the offline folders synchronized. This is not only annoying for one user, but is extremely annoying in a shared computing environment where multiple users log on to the same PC. This is because offline files stores files for every user that logs on and it tries to synchronize every users’ offline files every time.

When offline files become a burden, there is a simple trick to reset the offline file cache on Windows XP (it is not obvious if you have never done it before). The steps are below:

-You must be logged on as a user with Administrator Rights.

-Open up Windows Explorer by pressing “Windows Key + E” (or by using the myriad of other ways to open Windows Explorer).

-Navigate to Tools -> Folder Options

-Go to the Offline Files tab

-Now hold down “CTRL+SHIFT” and left click on the “Delete Files…” option.

-A confirmation message will appear.

-Click “Yes”

-Click “OK” on the Offline Files option window.

-Reboot your computer.

-Now the offline files cache has been reset and you can start corrupting it again from scratch!
