Sadly, it is now official

Bryn Oh Resigns from LEA over LL TOS

This news had already been mentioned by the newly created United Content Creators of SL (UCCSL), but now she has formally announced it in her own blog with a full explanation of her decision. This is another MAJOR BLOW to LL's credibility on their recent TOS Change that hi-Jacks IP content rights of all creators and artists of SecondLife.

Bryn Oh, one of SecondLife's most notable and famous Artists and a huge supporter of the art community in SecondLife has decided to resign from the Linden Endowment for the Arts (LEA) committee as a direct result of LL's recent TOS changes on Aug 16th.

Bryn Oh

In her first life, Bryn Oh lives in Toronto, Canada, and makes her living there as a painter whose work is sold by a major galley to collectors around the world. Having received her art education in Toronto and Florence, Italy, her paintings have been exhibited in many galleries in North America and Europe. A meticulous and highly skillful landscape painter, she uses high quality oils and acrylics that she makes herself from raw materials, working the paint with a wide variety of layering and sculptural brush techniques, on large canvasses that engulf the viewer in an almost immersive experience of the human impact on the natural world. In fact it is her interest in immersion that led her to experiment with the art of virtual worlds, and over the past year she has established herself as one of the finest builders and installation artists in Second Life.

Below is one of my favorite snapshots which I took at Immersiva which was one of Bryn's Worlds and I call it, UnScene Understanding.

Second Life Real Life Artist: Bryn Oh. Genius! Awesome!

Art can be found anywhere. From the whorl of a fingerprint to cloud formations across a clear blue sky. The world is a canvas and creativity abounds. So, I don’t know why I was so surprised to find that stunning works art also exist in virtual reality. Yes, obviously it makes sense in hindsight – computer programmers have done some amazing things with technology.

But I’m not talking about perfectly written HTML (although, a totally compliant script can be a thing of beauty), I’m talking about an artist who, stepping away from his physical canvas, has developed a cult like following for the work he exhibits under his persona on the MMORPG, Second Life (SL).

Bryn Oh (he won’t tell me his real name, which I think adds to the mystique) is a Canadian kid who, like most of us, started from humble beginnings – building little things in the snow (“winter clay”). Before heading to the Ontario College of Art and Design to work on his God-given artistic talent (and spending a requisite semester abroad in Florence, Italy), he tried his hand at studying Psychology in Montreal. He dropped out (to his parents dismay). After OCAD, Seneca to study computer animation, then the Toronto School of Art for Zbrush (a digital sculpting tool that combines 3D/2.5D modeling, texturing, and painting). It seems like such a technical leap from wielding a paint brush, but the end result – whether tactile or purely explorational – is an exceptionally crafted piece of fine art.

“Building in Second Life can be a very social experience with regular feedback from people wandering about, whereas the studio artist often spends months alone in their workspace creating a series of artworks with the social aspect and feedback being mostly just the opening night,” Bryn explains.

Apparently, there are somewhere over 25 million inhabitants world wide wandering around SL. I had only heard of it in passing, so if this is the first time you’ve encountered it, or the mysterious artist Bryn Oh, don’t beat yourself up. He’s something of a phenom in the virtual world, but his creative successes are also garnering international recognition in real life. Case in point? He was recently featured in an issue of Italian Vogue. How’s that for impressive? For the anonymous guy who likes to keep a low profile, even he found the experience “a bit bizarre, to be honest.”

This artist is quite modest, seeing that the fact that he/she was given an entire sim for a year!

Once upon a pixel time,

He was tough as tough could be,

Once upon a pixel field,
A very different cow!
Who walked and stood and ran around,
On two hind legs, somehow.
She thought she was a human,
So the farmer sat her down,

Miniature Streaker!

In some pixel forest,
On some pixel sim somewhere,
Was a tiny little blue man,
And all he did was hang out there.

He picked his new guitar up
And he landed them a shocker,
When he walked out of the village,

There was a pixel scientist,
Who had a pixel plan,
He was going to cross and clone,
A Smurf, a cat and man!
All his Science buddies
Thought his plan was kinda lame,
But he locked himself up in his lab
And tried it all the same.
With ears and tails and skin so blue,
So much from which to choose,
The hardest part was knowing
What to keep and what to lose!
Days and weeks and months went by,
In fact, almost a year,
Many thought the guy was dead,
When one day he appeared.
And by his side, a tiny guy,
Blue with tail and ears!
Everyone around was stunned,
Including all his peers!
‘What the heck is that?’ they shrieked,
‘What on this sweet Earth?’
‘This,’ the Scientist answered,
‘Is a mini Neko Smurf!’

There was once a real tiny guy,
Maybe known as Smurf to you and I,
But inspired by that flick,
Where Depp gets the chick,
Started wearing a patch on his eye!
He started to say things like ‘aaarrr,’

Wore an odd hat for leisure,
Started looking for treasure
So inspired was he by that film star.
So one day his blue friends said, ‘Look here,
This behaviour is all very queer!
Papa’s not pleased,
Really thinks you should leave,’
And the lil’ guy let out a huge cheer.
He took his friends’ hands and he shook,
Then he left with an ecstatic look!
Took himself out to sea,
Just as pleased as could be
And he swapped his right hand for a hook.

There's plenty of time but I suggest you begin the hunt ASAP because there are 200 stores and I had difficulty finding several of those gifts. They are very tiny and well hidden.
