How To Activate Anonymous Comments in Blogger Blogs

One of the ways you can increase your blog comments is by allowing your readers to comment on your blog, anonymously i.e without having to include their names nor their web address in the comment form when commenting on your blog post. If you do not allow anonymous comments on your blog, some readers will never comment on your blog.

The default Blogger's comment settings prevent anonymous readers from commenting on Blogger blogs. Hence if your blog is a Blogger/Blogspot blog, you will have to set "who can comment" to "anyone" via the comment settings before anonymous readers can be able to comment on your blog.

How To Get Started

==> Login to your Blogger dashboard and select the blog you want to edit (if you have more than one)

==> Go to Settings ==> Posts and Comments. You should see something similar to the picture below:

==> Set the "who can comment" to "anyone" and click Save.

If you view one of your blog posts, you should now see an "anonymous" option in the "comment as" box of the Blogger comment form as seen in the picture below:

How I Convert Microsoft Excel xlsx Files To Xls Format of Excel 2003 at Zamzar.com

When I purchased my Samsung Solar netbook, I uninstalled the trial Microsoft office that came with it and installed the full version of Office 2003 onto the netbook. Last week Monday, a friend sent me an Excel document ending with .xlsx extension. It failed to open on my netbook, telling me "the file is not in a recognizable format". Instantly I googled for the cause and solution and I decided to share my findings with you today.

As a fact, if you installed Microsoft Excel 2003 on your PC, you will not be able to open a Microsoft Excel file created with Microsoft Office 2007. Excel documents created with Office 2003 ends with .xls while those created with Office 2007 ends with .xlsx.

If you would like to open, edit, and save workbooks that were created in the newer versions Excel with Excel 2003, you either install Microsoft compatibility pack or use a free online document conversion service.

In this post, I am sharing with you how to use zamzar.com, a free online file converter which I use to convert .xlsx files to .xls files.

STEPS FOR EXCEL FILE CONVERSION

==> Go to www.zamzar.com on your PC

==> Use the "Browse" button to select the file you want to convert

==> Choose the format you want to convert to. In this instance, you choose "xls" as seen in the picture below:

==> Enter your email address and click convert.

==> After some minutes, check your email inbox and you should receive an email from zamzar.com

==> Click the download link in the email to download the converted file.

You should now be able to open the file with your Microsoft Excel 2003.

How To Create a blogspot.com blog FREE

You can blog for free, if you open a free blog. There are lots of free blogging platforms out there but the one I recommend is Blogger, powered by Google. Blogger blogs end with ".blogspot.com", though the .blogspot.com part can be removed if you buy a custom domain for your blog. Today, I am explaining to you, how to open a free blogspot.com blog free of charge. This is a very good tutorial for you if you are interested in how to create a blog on blogspot.com.

If you don't know what you can use a blog for, well, you can use a blog to share anything online. You can use it to share news, tutorials, pictures, videos etc to the world and even be making money while doing it. You can read my previous post titled "What is a Blog?" if you need more explanation on what a blog is.

Let's get started.

STEP 1

Go to www.blogger.com or www.blogspot.com ( They are the same, just different addresses)

STEP 2

Click on "Get Started" as seen in the picture above. Then, you will see a page similar to the one below:

STEP 3

On the page, you will create a Google account which you will use for your blog and other Google services. If you already have a Gmail account, please click on the "Sign in first" link at the top of the page. If you do not have a Gmail account, fill the form accordingly.

Display Name: This is the name that will appear under your blog posts, like a signature. You can enter your name or your nickname.

Tick the "I accept the terms of service" box, then click on "Continue".

STEP 4

You will see a new page similar to the one below:

Blog Title: This will be seen at the top of your blog and should be relevant to what you intend posting to your blog.

Blog Address: Let the address relate directly to what you will be blogging about. Let's say for example you want to be blogging about "Fuel Subsidy", then you can try "fuelsubsidyinfos". You don't have to include your name to show people you own it. You can click the "check availability" to see if your address is available for use. If not available, use another address. If available, click on "continue".

STEP 5

You will see a new page where you can choose your template as seen in the picture below:

Choose the template you like. It doesn't really matter which template you choose, you can always change it at a later date but for this example, I will choose the "Simple" template.

Avoid the "Dynamic Views" for now, should in case you see it as part of the options.

Once you have chosen your template, click on "continue".

Your blog is now created. You can now start blogging.

Please, take note of your address because that is what you will be sharing with people for them to be visiting your blog.

Whenever you want to login to your blog, all you just have to do is go to www.blogger.com or www.blogspot.com and log in with the Gmail details you used when you created the blog.

So, subscribe to my blog if you want to be receiving the tutorials in your email inbox even if you are not online when I post the tutorials. Make sure you verify your subscription by clicking on the link that will be in the mail that will be sent to you once you subscribe.

How To Block Facebook Tags

Facebook tags can be so annoying atimes especially when you are been tagged in some useless pictures. There was a time my Facebook profile was bombarded with meaningless tags and I decided to hunt for a solution to the mess. Unfortunately, as at the time of publishing this post, you cannot block your Facebook friends from tagging you but there are ways you can block Facebook tags so that your friends won't be seeing them.

The best solution of course, is to edit your Privacy Settings. Via your Privacy Settings, you can control what appears on your profile. I have edited my Privacy settings in such a way that ONLY ME can see posts/pictures I have been tagged in. So, any friend who tags me in a picture, thinking my friends will see it, is just wasting his/ her time. This way, I can be catching fun offline, without having to worry about been tagged in useless pictures on Facebook.

Remember, when you are tagged in a picture, some friends see it as if you are the one who posted it on your wall. Just imagine been tagged in an adult-rated picture, what do you think will be going on in the mind of your friends?

To edit your tagging Preferences, login to your Facebook account via a computer and go to : http://www.facebook.com/settings/?tab=privacy

Click the "edit settings" beside the "How Tags Work" option as seen in the picture below.

A window will pop-up. Choose the "custom" option from the drop-down box beside the "Profile Visibility..." as seen in the picture below.

Another window will pop-up. Choose "ONLY ME" from the drop-down box you will see under the "make this visible to" option as seen in the picture below.

If you want some selected friends to be seeing the tags, you can select the "Specify people" option instead of the "ONLY ME" option and type in the names of the friends.

That's all.

By using this trick and disabling wall posting on your profile, your wall will always be neat and free of all those spams out there on Facebook.

How To Add Custom Domain To Blogger Settings

After you might have purchased your domain name here or somewhere else and configured the A and CName records to point to Google, you must add the custom domain to your blog via Blogger publishing settings before the .blosgpot address of your Blogger blog can start redirecting automatically to your new custom domain.

Before you update your Blogger settings with your new custom domain, you must wait for your DNS settings to activate. You know if it has been activated when you see "Google error" displayed whenever you visit your new custom domain. If you attempt to change the Blogger publishing settings before the DNS changes activate, your blog will not be accessible but Blogger will let you know with a warning message.

How To Get Started

==> Login to your Blogger dashboard (New Blogger interface)

==> Go to Settings and click on the Basic tab. Find the area for "Publishing" as seen in the picture below:

==> Click the "Add a custom domain" link and you should see something similar to the picture below:

==> Click on the "Switch to advanced settings" link and you will see something similar to the picture below:

==> Enter in the URL for your custom domain in the text box provided, and click Save.

That's all

Your blogspot.com address will soon redirect to your new custom domain -- be patient, as it might take up to 24 hours for the redirect to start working. Atimes, it works immediately or after few minutes.

Some helpful notes:

If your new domain isn't taking you to your blog, wait another day or two to make sure all the DNS servers have been updated. If it still isn't working, contact your registrar to make sure you entered the DNS settings correctly or let me do it for you as explained here.
Your original Blogspot address will automatically forward to your new domain. That way, any existing links or bookmarks to your site will still work.

How To Activate Airtel SIM On iPad Nigeria For Internet Browsing

If you want to use an Airtel Nigeria SIM card on your Apple 3G iPad, you will have to buy the Airtel micro SIM from an Airtel office, register the SIM and wait for it to be activated. Once activated, you can insert it into the iPad for you to start surfing the internet with your iPad but before that can be possible, you will have to configure your iPad with Airtel internet settings (Airtel APN settings).

How To Configure Airtel APN Settings on Apple iPad

==> Tap the Settings icon on your iPad screen

==> Tap "Mobile data" or "Cellular data". You should now see "APN settings" as seen in the picture below

==> Tap the "APN Settings" and input the settings below:

APN: internet.ng.airtel.com

Username: internet

Password: internet

==> You can now press the "Home button" to exit the "settings" page.
==> Launch your safari browser and you should now be able to browse the internet with your iPad using an Airtel Nigeria SIM.

NOTE: You must have recharged and subscribed to Airtel Internet bundles before you can browse the net. You can easily do this by inserting your micro SIM into your phone before inserting it into your iPad.

You will also have to follow the same steps if you want to use your Etisalat SIM, GloMobile SIM or MTN SIM on your iPad, though you have to configure each network with its own APN settings.

How I Use Picstory App to Combine Pictures on BlackBerry

If you own a Blackberry phone and interested in combining two or more pictures into one, you can easily get it done with the PictStory app downloadable for free from the Blackberry app world. You can use the Picstory app for blackberry to create stories with pics.

I used it to merge three pictures into one as seen below:

In this tutorial, I am sharing with you how I created the picture above and how I saved the pictsory picture to my blackberry.

STEPS

==> Download Picstory from Blackberry app world and install it to your BB
==> Launch the app and you should see a page similar to the one below:

==> select "Share My Picture"

==> You will see thr layout page as seen below:

You can select the icon highlighted in yellow on the right hand side of the screen to change the layout for your picture story. Below are samples of layouts you can use:

==> Click on each column in the layout to add picture to it from your phone. After adding a picture to a column, a control box will appear which contains tools you can use to adjust the picture added to the column.

==> Use the Zoom tools to zoom your picture till it perfectly fits the Layout space. Add pictures to the other columns and adjust accordingly.

==> Once satisfied, click on the Arrow Icon (=>) at the top left of the Tools Bar as seen in the picture below:

==> Click the icon next to "tag your picture" as indicated in the picture below:

==> Click on the Share Button. (You can add caption etc on the page)

That's all.

How To Save PictStory Picture to BB

As at the time of publishing this, there is no SAVE button but if you authorize Picstory to use the picture you shared as your MMB dispay picture, you will see the picture in your BB Pictures folder.

7 Reasons Why Most Nigerian Bloggers Don't Make Money Online

It is no more news that for you to make real money online, the best advice you can get is to first get a blog or website. As a result of this, thousands of blogs keep been published everyday, yet over 80% of these blogs owned by Nigerians are not fetching them money as been expected.

Why I cannot claim to have make millions with my blog, with the little experience I have, I can still briefly explain some reasons why most Nigerian Bloggers are not making money online.

1. Blogging Only For Money

This might come as a big surprise to you but the fact is that, if you just blog to make money, you will likely not make money. If you check most Nigerian blogs, over 70% are sales page,just advertising this or that with no useful content. When a blog just have 5 pages,with 4 of the pages advertising a product or service, how do you expect to make money with it?

Yes, you can make good money with a blog, but it takes a lot more than "no effort". If you really want to make money with your blog, just keep blogging with passion and money will come naturally after you might have put some things in place e.g good traffic, rich content, SEO etc. To be honest to you,if the only reason you are blogging is to get rich, you will fail.

2. Not Updating

Nothing kills a blog faster than lack of updates. A non-updated blog is a dead blog. Many Nigerian bloggers fail to make money because most of their blogs are dead. Most of them blog in niches that they have no passion for and eventually get bored fast, hence, living their blog un-updated for a long time.

Even, if you just want to be making money on your blog via Google Adsense, if you fail to keep updating your blog, it might take you 2 years before you make $100. Yes, I mean it.

So, for you to be making money with your blog,pick a niche you will love to be writing about and also make sure you make a commitment to keep your blog updated, even if it is just one post per week or ten posts per day.

3. Not Willing To Learn First

Most Nigeria bloggers are not willing to learn before they earn. For example, if you do not know how to create channels for Adsense ads, don't know how to use the Competitive Ad Filter, don't know how to use the Adsense Preview tool, then how do you want to make good money from Google Adsense?

If you don't know how Paypal or clickbank works, then how do you want to make money through Affiliate marketing? If you don't know how to get free articles you can use to write an ebook or don't know how to resell other people ebooks, then how do you want to make money though information marketing?

To make good money online as a blogger, there are many things you must learn before you earn and unfortunately, there is no end to learning. You must also learn to write well,learn how to drive good traffic to your blog, how to really monetize your blog, how to tweak your blog so that your blog posts can be showing in the top results of search engine queries and many more.

I keep learning everyday and the more I learn, the more I get to know new tricks which I keep using to fetch me more money online. Basically, you will and must continue to learn if you want to earn big.

4. Being a Copycat

Many Nigerian bloggers fail to make money online because their blogs have no difference whatsoever as long as other blogs are concerned. They do what others are doing, say exactly what others are saying, infact, they are just COPYCAT BLOGGERS.

I am certainly not the first Nigerian to write about making money online or about blogging tricks, so what makes me not a copycat?

Well, the simple truth is that you can write about the same thing as the next blog, but you need to add your own views to make it unique. Don't just copy and paste what another blog posted. Give your opinion because that's what blogging is all about. The most unique thing about your blog is YOU.

If your blog is not different from others by content, design, ideas, opinion etc, then you might not make huge impact. There is not other way;BE DIFFERENT OR DIE TRYING.

5. No Commitment And Seriousness

This is another reason why most Nigerian Bloggers fail. Most of them are not committed and are not really serious about blogging especially when they have made no financial commitment for the blogs.

Blogging requires your time, money and energy. If you are not willing to make that commitment, then you will likely fail as a blogger.

6. Not Connecting With Other Bloggers

Many Nigerian Bloggers don't really make money online because they fail to realize the fact that they need to interact with other bloggers in the blogosphere for them to really make it online.

With facebook, Twitter, Mybloglog and other social communities online, you can easily connect with other bloggers. If you are active in these communities, before you know it, more traffic will be flowing to your blog, which obviously will help you in making more money with your blog.

7. Not reading Ogbongeblog

Though my blog might not be the biggest in Nigeria, but I am sure you will agree with me that this is the biggest mistake any Nigerian blogger can make. Smiles******

As you can see, you might be frustrated blogging online if you fail to consider the points that I have explained in this report.

If you wish to make good money from blogging,I encourage you to take blogging as a business because if you do not take it as a business,you will not give it what a business needs, which simply means you might fail. I pray, you don't. Amen.

How I Take Screenshots With Samsung Galaxy Y Pro Duos Without Using APP

After setting up my new Samsung Galaxy Y Pro Duos Android phone, I decided to search Google Play (formerly Android Marketplace) for an app I can use in taking screenshots. Thought I could get something similar to the Screen Muncher app for Blackberry, unfortunately, I realized that most of the apps in Google Play will demand you root your Android phone before you can use them in taking screen captures. After some serious research, I stumbled on a solution that works for me and I decided to share it with you.

Similar to the way I take screen shots with my IPad, I now easily take screen captures with my Samsung Galaxy Y Pro Duos without using any application by holding the “Home” button and pressing the “lock” button at the same time. This secret “Screen capture” function of the phone will take a print screen of the phone exactly how it is without you having to root your phone.

Below are some of the screen shots I captured with my Samsung Dual SIM Android phone:

If you are successful in capturing the screen, the phone will vibrate and you will see “Screen captured. Saved as image file” message displayed on the screen.

If you scroll to the to the "Gallery" of your phone, you will see the image files in a "Screen Capture" folder.

Note:
==> keep trying if If your phone keeps locking or going to the menu while trying to capture the screen
==> Hold the "home" button for a slight moment before pressing the lock button (to stop the phone from locking)

I hope this guide helps you take screen captures with your Samsung Galaxy Y Pro Duos smartphone.

How To Add Text To Pictures Online at Pixlr.com

You can add text to any photo online without using a software. I do this alot to add my blog address to some pictures I use in my blog post. This helps in creating more awareness for my blog, should in case some people use the image in their posts or some copycats copied my post without editing.

How To Get Started

==> Go to http://pixlr.com/editor/

==> Choose from the available options to open the picture you want to add text to

==> From the "Tools" box on the left hand side of the page, click on the text tool inidcated by the "A" sign

==> After clicking on the "A" sign, click anywhere on the picture. You should now see a text box like the one below:

==> Type the text in the box and choose the font, size, style and color of your choice.

==> As you type in the box, the text will appear above the box, right on the picture and you will be seeing all the changes you apply to it.

==> Once satisfied, click the OK button.

==> If you want to drag the text to another location on the picture, click the "move tool" (the first tool by the right indicated by arrow sign)

==> After clicking the "move tool", click on the text and drag it to the location of your choice,

==> Once satisfied, click on File ==> Save to save the picture to the computer.

That's all.

If you have readers from around the world reading your blog, they can now easily translate your blog to the language of their choice using the new Google Translate gadget for Blogger blogs.

With the Google Translate gadget, visitors to your blog can select their preferred language from the drop-down menu, and using Google’s free translation service, it will display your posts in any of the 50+ languages Google Translate supports.

I have added the gadget to my blog and from my STATS, I could see many of my readers making use of it.

8 Reasons Students Should Not be friends with their Teachers on Facebook

People are becoming Facebook friends with old classmates, long lost cousins and the neighbour across the street. Teens especially seem to have a tendency to add almost everyone to their friends list that asks. So, if one of their teachers should send them a friend request, they’re likely to accept it. If they randomly came across a teacher’s profile on Facebook, they might also send a friend request too, without thinking much about it. A teacher, however, should give the situation some consideration.

There are some very good reasons why a teacher should NOT be Facebook friends with their students.

Privacy – The teacher’s privacy and the student’s privacy are compromised when they become Facebook friends. A student (and that student’s friends) may learn things about their teacher that they otherwise wouldn’t have access to. This could be detrimental in the class setting.
Harassment – Again, this can go both ways. If the relationship between the teacher and the student is not a positive one, or deteriorates in the classroom, Facebook connections could be used to harass one another outside the confines of the school building.
Favoritism – Since teachers have many different students each day, if they were Facebook friends with some of their students and not others, they would likely be accused of showing favoritism to those students they had befriended on Facebook.
Intimidation – Some students might see a teacher’s Facebook friendship intimidating. They may be hesitant to accept the friendship because of not wanting their teacher to be privy to their conversations with friends. At the same time, they may fear saying no to a friend request from a teacher, for fear that they will offend the teacher and negatively affect the teacher’s treatment of them.
Age appropriate – Since a teacher would be an adult, there may be postings from friends on their Facebook page, which would not be age appropriate content for their students to be reading or viewing..
Prejudice – As much as teachers try not to allow outside knowledge affect their treatment of their students, it still can have a subliminal effect. A Facebook friendship may cause a teacher to see the student in a whole different light than they did in the classroom previously.
Misunderstandings – Online communications are often filled with misunderstandings about what a person meant by something they typed or did online. A teacher/student friendship on Facebook could create more opportunities for these types of misunderstandings.
Expectations – A student who has a teacher as a Facebook friend may expect special treatment from that teacher. The student may also expect the teacher to answer questions regarding assignments and homework via their Facebook friendship, that should be reserved for the classroom.

If you’re a teacher and haven’t given this situation any thought, now is the time to do so. The easiest solution is to simply make it a matter of personal policy to not be Facebook friends with any student at your school. That way, no one can be offended by your rejecting their friend request, and you can’t be put in a position that you may later regret.

Fiverr.com Not Opening On Your PC? The Solutions

I have been making money online at fiverr.com for a while now but recently I noticed that the site no longer opens on my PC, though opens on my Blackberry. If you are facing similar problem, worry no more as am sharing with you in this post, how to fix the problem.

It is still not clear to me if it is fiverr that blocks some IP or if it is some Internet Service Providers that are blocking www.fiverr.com on their servers. Which ever way, you can unblock www.fiverr.com and keep making money on the website.

Solutions

1. If you are using network A to browse and fiverr no longer opens, try browsing with other networks. If you want to keep browsing with network A for reasons best known to you, try the second solution below.

2. Unblock fiverr.com with the help of softwares that hide your IP and ensure anonymous browsing. There are loads of them out there including the Your-Freedom Software, Ultrasurf, FreeGate, Hotspotshield etc. As at the time of publishing this, I use the free version of the HotspotShield software on my PC to access fiverr.com.

Proxy sites like ninjacloak and VPN softwares will also work for you. If you own a Blackberry phone, you can easily access your fiverr account without using any other software or proxy. I use my Blackberry a lot just to log in to my account to prevent suspension because if you fail to log in to fiverr.com after some weeks, your account might be suspended.

How To Use Nigeria Voter's Card to Verify Google Adsense Account

Making money online with Google adsense is not that easy as every bloggers says it is, there are so many hassles, challenges and difficulties in it but as they come, we face them defeat them and stand up tall to write our experience in the history book. Today, I am sharing with you how I verified my Adsense account with my Voter's card right here in Nigeria after I coudn't receive the Adsense verification PIN.

Many people has written quick and simple ways you can receive Google adsense verification pin and verify your account instantly but the truth is that your PIN can only reach you if you provided the right address where you want your pin to be delivered and you will get it depending on the region or distance your address is located. Here in Nigeria, it normally takes 4 to 5 weeks but if you live in places like Lagos, Port-Harcourt, Abuja or other big cities, it can take less than 5 weeks.

If you did not receive your PIN after Google might have sent it to you, you can request for re-issue right from your Adsense account. Google can reissue it for you for a maximum of three times.

So what happens if I still can’t receive my pin from Google after requesting the 3rd time?

If you have requested for reissue of pin for the third time and you still didn’t receive your pin, Google brings up another alternative to verify your account. You will be ask to send a digital picture of a government issued ID card, bank statement, utility or telephone bill, displaying your picture (for the ID card) full names and contact address.

If you are a Nigerian, you can successfully use your voter’s card to verify your account because that is what I used and it was accepted in less that 24hours. All I did was scan my voter’s card and sent it to them. You can also use your national ID card, Drivers license, PHCN bill etc I guess what they want to see is your picture on the ID card, full names, and contact address and off course federal republic of Nigeria written at the top of the document you are sending.

Note that all details in your account must correspond with the document you intend to send.

You should be aware of the fact that Google can stop displaying ads on your blog if you do not verify it as soon as possible.
