<p>We had so much fun bidding at the auction, and our donation went towards the Jump Rope for Heart scheme run by The Heart Foundation.</p>

<p>My first week on the job was at the 2013 Australian Fitness and Health Expo in Sydney and what a great way to start!</p>

<p>This expo is the largest gathering of its kind in the southern hemisphere and the number one event for those who live, breath and work in fitness and health (http://www.fitnessexpo.com.au/). There was everything and anything you could think of! I had never seen anything like it – it was massive!</p>
<p>It was a three day show – Friday, Saturday and Sunday and boy were we busy!!</p>

<p>Representing the Slim Secret’s team at the Expo was my mum, Sharon, who is the founder of Slim Secrets and myself. We shared our stand with Michael Klim’s Milk &amp; Co food range. Michael was there with us all day Friday and Saturday morning, which drew quite a bit of attention to our stand. I couldn’t quite work out why everyone wanted photos with him and not with me?! Haha but I happily took the photos for him. He also had Paul and Kylie helping him, which was great fun for us.</p>

<p>When we were unpacking the stock to setup on the Thursday – we couldn’t believe how much we had and we’re really quite sure where it was all going to fit. But by the time we got to Saturday afternoon, it was looking like we were going to run out. We got through Sunday but by the end we managed to sell out of all EVERYTHING!!</p>

<p>Overall the Expo was a huge success for us. It was really amazing to see the interest people took in Slim Secret’s. There were lots of people who already knew the brand and were coming past to see what was new and to stock up on their favourite products. And then there were people who had never heard of us and couldn’t believe how good the products tasted considering how good they are for you. The expo is a great way for us to meet existing customers and to build our database.</p>

<p>We gave out free samples of our Daily Fibre Power Bar, which will be launched in about 6 weeks time. This bar is full of seeds, goji, tahini and high in fibre and personally I LOVE IT! We received a tweet on our Twitter page on the Sunday from a fan who just raved about the new bar. So hopefully you all love it too. So make sure to watch our social media pages for the launch of this new bar.</p>

Lie on your back and pull your knees towards your chest, then straighten out your legs and hold them, stretching your hamstrings. Flip over onto your stomach and point your fingers and toes, stretching the entire length of your body. </p>
<p>Lemon Water &#8211; A glass of warm water with lemon is perfect in the morning. Not only does it cleanse your system, increase your energy, metabolism and improve digestion, but it also eliminate toxins. </p>
<p>Get Active &#8211; Do you find it hard to get moving? No motivation for the gym? Try this simple energy booster: 20 seconds jumping jacks, 20 pushups, 20 seconds running on the spot. Repeat x 3. This will instantly get the blood pumping throughout your entire body!</p>
<p>Sunlight &#8211; Spending your morning in a dark room can make you feel lethargic. Open the curtains and let the natural light shine in. This will tell your body to &#8220;wake up&#8221;, stimulating the formation of vitamin D and setting your biological rhythm.</p>

<p>Now that Winter is over and Spring is here, it is time to dust off those running shoes (hopefully you have been using them so they shouldn&#8217;t be too dusty!) and enjoy the warmer weather!</p>
<p>It is also the time that many people re-start their exercise routines. I have had many questions regarding the right programs for people and which fitness plans are best suited for them and their lifestyle.  </p>
<p>If you are new to exercising or simply returning after a bit of a hiatus, finding the right plan can be difficult. Everyone wants to jump straight in to the &#8220;all or nothing&#8221; routine, however from observation, I know that after a few short weeks (or even days) people can lose focus, motivation and momentum, slowly falling back into old habits.</p>
<p>This can usually be the result of a few things:</p>
<p>The &#8220;total action hero&#8221;  Approach<br />
You desperately want to lose weight (right now!) so you choose the most extreme fitness routine/DVD/program in the market, that has amazing transformation photos, however after playing the DVD/starting the program, you realize that your body is not cut out for 100 burpees in a row or explosive pushups with double claps. You then feel defeated and throw the DVD into the drawer (while icing your aching joints and sore back) and then watch more fitness infomercials, hoping to find the next fitness solution!</p>
<p>The &#8220;I am confused about what I am doing&#8221; Approach<br />
You decide you are going to exercise, so you head to the gym, walk around, lift a few weights (without any plan or without knowing what to do), walk for 10 minutes on the treadmill and go home. You repeat this for 2 weeks, don&#8217;t see any results, then give up, deciding that nothing will ever work for you.</p>
<p> The &#8220;I want to look like Angelina Jolie&#8221; Approach<br />
You look through the internet and find a fitness routine that a celebrity, model or bodybuilder follows. You print this out and take it to the gym. After following it diligently for weeks, your body doesn&#8217;t look anything like theirs does in the picture! How could this be? You thought that following Angelina&#8217;s exact routine would magically transform your body into hers! This routine goes into the trash and you then start looking for a new celebrity, model or bodybuilder routine on the internet to follow&#8230;</p>
<p>The &#8220;cardio bunny&#8221; Approach<br />
You are scared of doing weights so just stick to cardio. After doing an hour a day on the treadmill, you notice that your clothes are a bit looser, but your body is not really changing shape. You decide that you will now do 2 hours a day. After a week you realize that you simply exhausted and all this cardio is not sculpting your butt like you wanted or giving you definition in your arms. You can&#8217;t work it out though &#8211; all the women are on the cardio machines so it must be the right thing to do? </p>
<p>The &#8220;I can eat anything because I went to the gym&#8221; Approach<br />
You find a plan that fits into your lifestyle and work out religiously. You start to see great results, so think that you can start to &#8220;slack off&#8221; now and have dessert every night, &#8220;because you deserve it&#8221;. You then notice your results are lagging, so work out even harder. Your body is looking great! Time to treat yourself again, so out comes the cupcakes. Back at the gym again &#8211; things are looking good! Now for some biscuits and chocolate at work&#8230;this cycle continues endlessly!</p>
<p>Do any of these examples ring a bell? There are many more I could list, however these are the most common ones that I have observed.</p>
<p>So how can you choose a plan that will work for you and your goals?</p>
<p>Here are 10 important things to consider:</p>
<p>1. What are you trying to achieve? Set clear goals on your dream body!<br />
2. When do I want to achieve this by?<br />
3. How much time can you realistically set aside for training?<br />
4. What is your skill level?<br />
5. Do you have any injuries that may stop you from doing certain exercises?<br />
6. What type of activities do you enjoy?<br />
7. What keeps you motivated?<br />
8. Do you prefer to work out at home or in the gym?<br />
9. Are you able to follow a plan exactly?<br />
10. Are you serious about making real changes to your body, or are you looking for a quick fix?</p>
<p>Ask yourself these questions to work out what NEW approach will work for you. Following the same routine (that has not given you results in the past) is a surefire way to achieve very little progress.</p>
<p>Be honest and make sure you choosing an approach that will fit in with your lifestyle!</p>

<p>Hi Slim Secrets Fans!</p>
<p>I&#8217;m sure most of you are battling the cold at the moment, but enjoying nice warm heated rooms, hot chocolates (skinny of course <img src='http://www.slimsecrets.com.au/blog/wp-includes/images/smilies/icon_smile.gif' alt=':)' class='wp-smiley' />  and big warm winter coats! These are some of the great things about a colder climate, but sometimes we forget to think about how our body is feeling under all those layers.</p>
<p>Heaters, hot showers, blow dryers etc all play havoc on our hair and skin, leaving us feeling extremely dry and dehydrated. Because we are constantly covering up, it can be hard to see exactly how our skin is holding up through the winter months. </p>
<p>Winter is also a common time for cellulite to reappear, as we might not be as active due to the weather and our skin is not receiving its normal amount of circulation. </p>
<p>What can we do about this? Well don&#8217;t worry! I have put together a great nourishing routine for you to try this week. This routine will leave you feeling refreshed and rejuvenated and you will honestly see the difference in your skin&#8217;s texture immediately. </p>
<p>The important thing is to stimulate the circulation in our lower body and also slough off those dead skin cells. I would recommend doing this once per week and see how you go. As you progress, you can do this routine twice per week.</p>
<p>Save Your Skin Routine &#8211; 20 mins</p>
<p>Step 1. Start by applying a clay mask to your face. This will dry while you begin on the other parts of the routine. This is great because it draws out all those impurities in your face and leaves it feeling soft and smooth.</p>
<p>Step 2. While the mask is drying, grab a long handled body brush (you can buy them at most supermarkets) and dry brush your body. Start at your feet and brush up towards your heart. Use nice, long strokes and be sure to get the back of your thighs and glutes.</p>
<p>Step 3. Now jump in the shower (or bath) and wash of your clay mask, while exfoliating your whole body using a body scrub. This can be in the form of a sugar scrub, coffee granule scrub or walnut scrub. There are many brands on the market, just be sure to find one that is &#8220;grainy&#8221;. Make sure you concentrate on your on your knees, elbows, feet and hands. </p>
<p>Step 4. Wash the scrub off and then shampoo your hair. Apply a deep conditioner or mask to your hair and leave on for 5 minutes. During this time, you can use a pumice stone to scrub your feet, making sure you concentrate on your heels and the balls of your feet.</p>
<p>Step 5. After lightly towel drying your body, apply a thick layer of rich moisturizer or body butter all over your body. It is important to focus on any areas where you are likely to develop cellulite. Massage it in. </p>
<p>Step 6. Apply a leave in conditioner or Moroccan oil to your hair and wrap it up in a warm towel.  </p>
<p>Step 7. Put on your favorite robe, pop on some socks (make sure your feet were moisturised too) and enjoy a lovely Slim Secrets treat after all amazing work!</p>

<p>Hello Slim Secrets Fans,</p>
<p>Hopefully by now you have been able to try one of the amazing snacks by Slim Secrets! If you haven&#8217;t, you are seriously missing out on all the delicious flavours, packed full of protein, high in fibre, low in sugar and wheat and gluten free! Slim Secrets bars and shakes are my &#8220;go to&#8221; snack and I carry a bunch of them around with me wherever I go, keeping my metabolism stoked and repairing my body with muscle building protein.</p>
<p>Once I find a healthy snack that fits in with my lifestyle, I usually end up eating it everyday, however come up with new and innovative ways to enjoy the product. With all the great Slim Secrets products available, I have come up with 5 different ways you can enjoy them, especially when you are craving sweets or want something that looks like a dessert, but is actually a healthy option!</p>
<p>All you need is your favourite Slim Secrets snacks and a bit of creativity! <img src='http://www.slimsecrets.com.au/blog/wp-includes/images/smilies/icon_smile.gif' alt=':)' class='wp-smiley' /> </p>
<p> Gooey Chocolate Nut Lava </p>
<p>Make it: Using either the Mintabolim Boost or Afternoon Snack Attack Bar, break it into small pieces in a bowl and pop it into the microwave for 10 &#8211; 30 seconds (depending on how melted you want it to be). Take it out and pop in some natural almonds, pecans and pistachios. Make sure the chocolate covers everything and enjoy! This is delicious on a cold night when you want a warm chocolate bowl (filled with protein and healthy fats!)</p>
<p> White Chocolate Berry Bowl</p>
<p>Make it: Using the Night Time Binge Buster Bar, follow the same directions as the Gooey Chocolate Nut Lava recipe, however once you take it out of the microwave, dip fresh strawberries or raspberries into the white chocolate, then eat the remaining bits of the bar. So yummy!</p>
<p>Creamy Cookie Delight</p>
<p>Make it: Using the Designer Choc Chip Cookie, heat it in the microwave until is nice and warm. Immediately top the cookie with a scoop of low fat greek yoghurt (or for something special), a scoop of low fat ice-cream. Top the ice cream with crushed natural nuts and a sift on some cocoa. </p>
<p>Chocolate Banana Protein Thickshake</p>
<p>Make it: Using the Heavenly Chocolate Protein Shot, tip the contents into a blender with lots of ice cubes, water, banana and a few drops of chocolate essence. Blend until mixed and enjoy!</p>
<p>Tasty Trail Mix</p>
<p>Make it: Using the Choc Mint Chip Fit Balls and the Wanted! Less than 100 Calorie Bars, cut them into pieces and combine with natural nuts, blueberries, sunflower seeds, unsalted popcorn etc in a bowl. Separate the mixture into zip lock bags and enjoy this trail mix at work or even in the car when you are feeling hungry. </p>

<p>Happy Friday Slim Secrets Readers!</p>
<p>On Friday we always have great ideas for the weekend and usually have a huge &#8220;To Do&#8221; list, however have you noticed how quickly those two days slip through our fingers, only to wake up on Monday morning having hardly crossed off anything on our list!<br />
The rest of the week then seems like a huge game of &#8220;catch up&#8221;, trying to finish our tasks from the previous week while adding more items to our list each day! (Don&#8217;t worry, I know what it&#8217;s like!)</p>
<p>The same can be said for weekend fitness and health. We have grand plans to go for a run on Saturday or attend a new fitness class on Sunday, however tasks always come up and somehow our exercise plans go straight out the window! Friends pop over, family activities run longer than expected and then we find ourselves waking up Monday morning feeling less than healthy after our missed workouts.</p>
<p>So how do we make sure that we reclaim those two wonderful weekend days and fit in some healthy activities? Read my tips below&#8230;</p>
<p>Morning Exercise &#8211; Try to schedule in your exercise first thing in the morning. Many times we push our workouts back to the afternoon, however after spending all day in the hot sun (or rain) or commuting through traffic, the last thing you want to think about is find the energy for a solid workout.</p>
<p>Combine Friends &#038; Fitness &#8211; You&#8217;re supposed to meet your friend for coffee over the weekend, why not invite her to your morning exercise class or go for a walk together? That way you can tick off both your exercise and social time and your friend also has the added benefit of getting in an extra workout with you also!</p>
<p>Clutter Free &#8211; When your work space or home is a mess, it can be hard to focus on more important tasks. A great way to fix this problem is to spend some time organising on Friday afternoon or evening. It will clear up a lot of time on the weekend to do the things you want to do. When you wake up on Saturday and everything is in its place, it is amazing how much better you feel!</p>
<p>Plan it &#8211; After you have finished your organising on Friday, spend 10 minutes planning your weekend. What workouts are you going to do? What healthy meals could you prepare? What other activities are important? By planning your weekend, you will find that there is actually a lot more time than you realised.</p>
<p>Just do it &#8211; How many times have you considered getting out for some exercise, however sat down on the couch and ended up watching 3 hours of old &#8220;Friends&#8221; re-runs! When you get the inkling to workout &#8211; just do it! Don&#8217;t wait for the &#8220;right time&#8221; or say to yourself that you will decide after you &#8220;do this or that.&#8221; Just pop those shoes on and go! <p>Hope you all had a great weekend! Did you get up to anything new, fun or exciting? I have been busy trying out all the new Slim Secrets Speedy Recipes which are delicious! There have been so many great submissions and congratulations to the winners! If you haven&#8217;t yet checked out the recipes then make sure you do. Super easy to make and they take no time at all.</p>
<p>Over the past week I&#8217;ve had a few questions from readers regarding ways that they can improve their diets, without making drastic changes. If you consider yourself someone that eats quite healthy, but could improve in a few areas, this this post is for you.</p>
<p>Sometimes we have those little &#8220;extras&#8221;, which might not seem like a lot at the time, but could be adding a few kilograms to our waistline each year. It&#8217;s important to make small changes which you wont even notice! Most people eat out of habit and are not consciously thinking about their food as they prepare or eat it. We go into an auto-pilot mode. ie. pick up the coffee, add 2 sugars, fill up half the cup with milk and we are on our way. All we have to do is change those habits and you could be saving yourself a lot of calories and extra time at the gym.</p>
<p>I have put together 7 ways you can improve your eating habits this week &#8211; read on to find out what they are&#8230;</p>
<p>Old Habit: Full fat milk in your coffee</p>
<p>Swap it for: Small amount of skim/low fat milk               </p>
<p>Even better: No milk (yes I know most of us are horrified about the though of black coffee, but I have been drinking it for years and once you get used to it its great!)</p>
<p>Old Habit: x 2 slices of white toast with breakfast (even worse, the really thick, white, cafe toast!)</p>
<p>Swap it for: x 1 slice of wholemeal toast            </p>
<p>Even better: Swap toast for more protein (scrambled egg whites) or even some fresh fruit or low fat, low sugar yoghurt. </p>
<p>Old Habit: Orange/Fruit juice from a bottle</p>
<p>Swap it for: Freshly squeezed juice from a blender with some vegetables added (beetroot, celery, spinach are great additions)<br />
Even better: Blend whey protein with some berries/fruit for a high protein, after workout, repair drink!</p>
<p>Old Habit: The 3pm chocolate fix (Giant Freddo Frog, KitKat&#8230;whatever is in your desk!)</p>
<p>Swap it for: x 2 squares of Organic 72% Dark Chocolate </p>
<p>Even better: Slim Secrets Afternoon Snack Attack Bar. Delicious, high protein and low fat, this will fill you up way more than x 2 squares of dark chocolate will!</p>
<p>Old Habit: Eating dessert every time you have dinner at a restaurant</p>
<p>Swap it for: Ask the server if they make you a fresh bowl of berries (raspberry, strawberries, blueberries) or fruit salad.</p>
<p>Old Habit: Adding sugar to your beverages</p>
<p>Swap it for: Sachet of Splenda</p>
<p>Even better: Buying your own packets of natural sweetener Stevia and taking them with you in your bag.</p>
<p>Old Habit: Snacking on roasted, salted nut mixes with dried fruit</p>
<p>Swap it for: Non-salted nut mix (no dried fruit)</p>
<p>Even better: Natural almonds, pecans, walnuts (non salted).</p>
