I found this *beautiful* acoustic recording of Bruno Mars’ Count on Me. Lead vocal, gutar, and first-harmony is all Liz Schorr. Liz is a second-year vocal performance and music education (double) major at the Hartt School of Music in Hartford, Connecticut.

As soon as I heard this song, I HAD to add another harmony to it. So here it is.

Every few years I find a song that just screams “harmonize me!!!”. This is the first in a long while. So so pretty. I heard this for the first time at 9am on Saturday, and came up with and recorded and mixed the harmony track by 2:30 that afternoon. Made my day.

Cover of Weekend In New England, by Barry Manilow, recorded on April 20, 2013. Barry Manilow’s Greatest Hits–in 8-track format–was one of the big albums of my childhood. This is my favorite slow song by him.

Of the 31 songs currently posted on SeeJeffSing, this vocal is my personal favorite. This vocal is a milestone in how I “trusted” the microphone–allowing myself sing much quieter than usual in the beginning, and “let” the microphone do its job and pick me up. Many Barry Manilow songs start off intense, and just grow and grow in intensity until you’re inevitably popping veins at the end. Therefore, starting the song off softly gave me much more room to grow.

I got the first two parts of harmony just fine, but was having a hard time figuring out the third part. I finally realized there aren’t three parts. There’s two parts with two people on each, one person in each speaker. So that’s what I did: four tracks of harmony.

The harmony adds so much.

Islands In The Stream, originally by Kenny Rogers and Dolly Parton. This is a duet with Rebecca Brand, the fearless leader and founder of my acapella group, The City Line Singers. In the summer of 2009, Rebecca started an acapella meetup.com group, through which we met–four of our current members came from this meetup. We are now seven members strong, and still chugging along after all this time.

Rebecca is a rare musical soul. I am blessed to have met her.

A beast of a song.

Out of the twenty-seven songs I’ve posted on this blog so far, this is easily the most challenging. By that I mean, I do not even *attempt* to sing this unless I am in PERFECTLY warmed up and stretched.

The second-most challenging song I’ve posted is Out There (from Disney’s Hunchback) (http://www.facebook.com/SeeJeffSing/posts/152859328212941), although since I am more emotionally connected to that one, it somehow makes it easier—I think by giving me more adrenaline to get through the high-notes.

I have some serious respect for Josh Groban.

This is a duet with one of my oldest friends: Adam Weitz.

This song is the culmination of decades of history, friendship and a deep love of Billy Joel’s music. Much of my relationship with Adam has been spent listening to and singing Billy Joel. There is no song that represents this more than Baby Grand. It is “our song”.

So many thanks to him for helping me make this happen. One major item is now checked off of my bucket list.

Hello by Lionel Richie.

In 1987, eleven years before we started dating, my wife and I were at a summer-camp that went on daily bus trips. One day we went to Great Adventure. It was the only trip of the whole summer where the two of us spent the day together. That day I sang Hello in one of those sing-it-yourself studio/stores. It was one of the best memories of that summer for both of us (when I find the tape, I’ll post it).

This recording is my third attempt. I liked–and spent hours fully mixing–the first two, but she was not satisfied until this one. This is the only song in which she is granted this veto power :)
