About two weeks ago, the Christmas season was in full effect. With some of the gifts I received, the receipts were included in the box. On most receipts, the return policy is included. Here’s probably why: You know that moment when you try on the jeans your aunt brought you, only to discover that you gained a few pounds. Oh, you know the moment…when you plug in the TV only to discover all sound, but no picture. Yes you know the moment, when you open that “interesting” gift, and what you see inside makes you wrap the gift right back up. There are times that we get things we simply want to give back.

Have you ever got to a point in your life when you wanted a change? Have you ever wanted God to give you something different?

God has given us all a return and exchange policy. He has given us an opportunity to come back and return our hearts to Him. What God offers us is greater than any material thing. Nothing can compare to His love.

This year, what if you exchanged your will with God’s will? What if you returned your trust and hope back to God? What if you exchanged your doubt, denial and fear with faith? What if you gave God every worry and negative thought? What if you gave God…YOU? This is a great year for us to return back to God.

God’s return and exchange policy is different; because it doesn’t expire…it’s a gift of forgiveness. Whatever happened…you are forgiven. No matter what it was. No matter who it was with. No matter how it happen or what happened next, give it to God, and watch what He gives back to you. He gives you and I, another chance…because Jesus is our policyholder.

In John 14:6 (NIV), Jesus answered, “I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.”

Let’s pray: This year, I need you more than anything. I belong to you God. Transform my life for your glory. Do what you do, and I will continue to trust you with everything I have. In Jesus name, the only name that matters…Amen.

18This is how the birth of Jesus the Messiah came about: His mother Mary was pledged to be married to Joseph, but before they came together, she was found to be pregnant through the Holy Spirit.19Because Joseph her husband was faithful to the law, and yet did not want to expose her to public disgrace, he had in mind to divorce her quietly.

20But after he had considered this, an angel of the Lord appeared to him in a dream and said, “Joseph son of David, do not be afraid to take Mary home as your wife, because what is conceived in her is from the Holy Spirit. 21She will give birth to a son, and you are to give him the name Jesus, because he will save his people from their sins.”

The past few weeks, I’ve been preparing for my finals for this semester. In one particular class, I really needed to do well on my final exam to get the grade I wanted. I studied for weeks preparing for this test. From late night study sessions, to my early morning copying-notes technique, I felt prepared and ready. So, as I took the final last week, I left out confident that I would get the grade I had hoped for. But in spite of all of my efforts, I passed, but not with the grade I wanted. I’m grateful…

But I was still disappointed. I felt so defeated. I couldn’t understand why I didn’t do better. I just knew I had this test in the bag. What happened? What went wrong?

Have you ever been disappointed?

All of us have…because unfortunately, life brings disappointments. We often put so much trust into each other, with so many expectations and high hopes. What happens when what we have in mind doesn’t play out? What happens when everything goes wrong?

We lose control. We make rash decisions. We sometimes think, say, and do things as result of our circumstances. We get so caught up in the moment, we sometimes don’t realistically think about what’s next.

Imagine how Joseph felt when his world turned upside down. The woman of his dreams, the love of his life was pregnant with a baby…that wasn’t his. Immediately, Mary’s character was put into question. At first Joseph mistrusted Mary, but after he calmed down, he was able to chill. Joe soon discovered, that this child (Jesus Christ) was a gift from God and a sign of God’s trust in them both.

Today, you may feel disappointed and defeated…

Maybe someone close to you has let you down, or maybe you let someone else down. But no need to worry, God…will never let you down.

When we trust in God, our disappointments are easier to manage. Embrace every experience and learn from it. I believe God has placed a gift inside of you…to change your disappointments, into moments of greatness. This gift is from the Holy Spirit…it may not be what you had in mind, but it’s exactly what you need.

So, no matter what happens today, you have everything you need to rise above your disappointments. Be encouraged.

Let’s Pray: God thank you for trusting me enough to experience some letdowns. Thank you for your grace, because it always picks me back up. I love you and thank you for loving me back. There’s no doubt about it, Your name is the only one that matters…

Still…Be Thankful

“No matter what happens, always be thankful, for this is God’s will for you who belong to Christ Jesus.” 1 Thessalonians 5:18 (NLT)

Yesterday, I went to one of my favorite restaurants. I went in and I knew what and how I wanted my food. As I was receiving my meal, it didn’t look right, it didn’t taste right, and it was not what I expected. I still said, “thank you.”

There will always be moments in our lives, when being thankful doesn’t make sense. Everything won’t always look or feel right, but we must challenge ourselves to still…say thank you.

Today, take a moment to think about everything that has happened in your life.

If you’re like me, you have a lot to be thankful for:

The car that almost hit you…

The sickness that went away…

The relationship that was restored…

The second chance that was given…

The gift of forgiveness…

The blessing of family and friends…

The roof over your head…

The clothes on your back…

The job that you have…

The job that you lost…

YOU AND I, HAVE A LOT TO BE THANKFUL FOR!

We must be thankful for the fact that we belong to God, not to ourselves or to anyone else. God’s will is for us to belong to Christ Jesus. We must be thankful for that.

Today, be thankful for everything…For the good and the bad, be thankful.

Be thankful, today is another chance for your bad to turn into something good.

Let’s Pray: Thank you God! Today, I will be thankful for everything. It’s my best option. You are working in my favor, and turning “it” around for me. You have been good to me. I love you Jesus. In your name I pray, the only name that matters. Amen.

Our Election Results

Yesterday, we exercised our right to re-elect President Barack Obama and many other candidates throughout our nation. In the days and months leading up to this pivotal moment, the issues were brought up, we were energized, and billions of dollars were spent. Both candidates fought a good fight, which displayed their passion and love for America.

I believe that anyone can be a good leader, but great leaders are made of a great character. And I do believe that we have elected a great leader, with an incredible amount of character. When I vote for a candidate, I examine the character of the person; their intelligence, class, integrity, honesty, humility, and strength. Do you? God does…

God has elected us too; He has chosen us for such a time as this.

In Colossians 3:12-14 (MSG), it says this: “So, chosen by God for this new life of love, dress in the wardrobe God picked out for you: compassion, kindness, humility, quiet strength, discipline. Be even-tempered, content with second place, quick to forgive an offense. Forgive as quickly and completely as the Master forgave you. And regardless of what else you put on, wear love. It’s your basic, all-purpose garment. Never be without it.”

In the New King James Version, it says that we are the, “elect of God.”

This reminds me of the polls yesterday. In some local elections, on the voting machine the option was given to, “write-in,” a candidate if that person wasn’t on the ballot. You may have thought you wasn’t on the ballot for grace and mercy, but God wrote your name in. God voted you in, so that you can experience His love. The new life that you desire, it’s a free gift.

So, start writing your concession speech. In order to enjoy your elected position, you must concede to any old way of living, any old way of thinking. Then you can write your acceptance speech, accepting the new life of love that God has chosen you for.

Let’s Pray: God thank you, for voting me in. Help me not to let you down. I love you. Your name is the only one that matters, JESUS. Amen.

Patience

Due to my recent $60 parking ticket back at home, I was very cautious this weekend when I was in Washington, D.C.

In D.C., there’s always something to do; so at times, parking can be a nightmare. It can sometimes take 30 min or more to find a space on the street. Let’s just say if you’re not patient, you might want to take the METRO.

In some of the situations that rise up in our lives, “patience” may not be the first thing we think of.

Aren’t you glad that God’s always patient with us, even when aren’t always patient with Him? Our thoughts and our words, God is even patient in His response to what we choose to do. God’s patience is His gift to us, in which we don’t deserve.

We are beyond imperfect and impatient people; but in spite of our imperfections and impatience, we can grow to become more like God.

Today, embrace God’s patience.

Let God’s patience rub off on you. When stress arises or when something sets you off…remember God’s patience. If He’s patient with us, we can be patient with others.

2 Peter 3:9 (NLT) says, “The Lord isn’t really being slow about his promise, as some people think. No, he is being patient for your sake. He does not want anyone to be destroyed, but wants everyone to repent.”

God is patient with us, because He loves us. As we request things from God, sometimes it may seem that His response is slow. It’s not… God is always on time, always knowing what’s best for us. Our text tells us, that as God gives us the gift of patience…we should give our lives back to Him. Repentance is how we are able to “park” in God’s presence.

Let’s pray: God, today help me to be more patient. Thank you for always being patient with me. No matter what, remind me that your patience is a result of your love. Your love was exemplified through the sacrifice of your son, Jesus Christ. You are incredible…

Risky Faith

“Have faith in God,” Jesus answered.

Earlier this week, my girlfriend and I went to IKEA to shop for furniture for my office. As we were shopping we stumbled across a unique conference table; of course she suggested I should get it, and I instantly agreed with her. The table was smooth—it was just nice. So I brought the table, along with other pieces of furniture for my office.

My car however, is not a big car. Let’s just say, that the table was bigger than my car. We tried putting the table in the car in different angles, that didn’t work. We tried putting it in the trunk, that didn’t work. We even tried sitting the table in the front seat; that still didn’t work. So at this point, we’re frustrated, tired, and flustered. So I went in the store with three options in mind: 1) Return the table. 2) Ship it (Which was more expensive than the actual table). 3) Buy straps and hooks that would allow us to secure the table on top of my vehicle. So choice #3 was the clear winner.

I still doubted that this could work. Why would I take a risk and put something so valuable on top of my car? That’s crazy. What if it fell off, or even hurt someone as it was falling? I was paranoid, and I was not to impress with the idea. I couldn’t help but to doubt for these reasons…it was raining (not good for a cardboard box), DC traffic is crazy (no offense), and the ride back to Richmond is about 2 hours (Hmmmm). However, in spite of my doubt and fear, I made it back to Richmond, and my fancy table did too.

I believe our lives are the same way. We must trust God even when it’s not convenient. We must have faith in God, even when it seems risky. When we consume our lives with what we think can fall apart, we miss our opportunity to trust God. God is like a strap that secures us. God secures and protects our dreams, goals, visions, families, relationships, and our futures. God does this, because we are valuable to Him. No matter what you think, or what they said, or what you did, YOU ARE STILL GOD’S TREASURE. Believe me, God can take what we think will fall apart; He’ll turn it around and use the same thing to make us whole. “Have Faith In God,” don’t doubt Him.

Let’s Pray: God, thank you for securing and protecting my life. Thank you for saving me, from my brokenness. You have the power to restore, heal, and forgive. I’m grateful that is what you do for me. Jesus, your name is the only one that matters…Amen.

Proverbs 3:5-6

5 Trust in the Lord with all your heart

and lean not on your own understanding;

6 in all your ways submit to him,

and he will make your paths straight.

When you call someone, send a text message, email, or instant message to someone, your hope is that the person on the other side (who you can’t physically see) receives what you are trying to say and replies back to what you send/say.

The same model works with God in prayer; even though we can’t physically see Him, be encouraged and know that He hears your prayers, knows your voice, and responds to your tears.

God’s desire is for us to simply TRUST Him in everything and in every situation. God’s desire for us, is to have faith in Him…no matter what.

Let’s Pray: God help us to keep our faith in you, even as we wait on your response as to what to do in life. Keep us focused, patient, and always ready to move when you tell us it’s time. In Jesus name, Amen.

In order to fully understand what God wants you to focus on, you have to lighten your load. When you carry on a lot of stuff at one time, it’s hard for God to put the essentials in your life because you have no room… It’s time to prioritize what’s most important and what can wait.. We must balance our lives. Get rid of what you aren’t using or has no value to your life so you will have room for the new things that you will need for this season in your life. God wants to do some great things with you only if you are obedient. Only you and Him know what needs to happen…

“There is a time for everything, and a season for every activity under the heavens…” Ecclesiastes 3:1

Let’s Pray: God for this season in my life, remove what doesn’t fit, clean off what needs a polish, show me your will so that I may attach my plans to align with what u expect. Help me to balance my life so I can be prepared for your promise, in Jesus name. Amen.

Romans 8:28-29

²⁸And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who^[a] have been called according to his purpose. ²⁹For those God foreknew he also predestined to be conformed to the image of his Son, that he might be the firstborn among many brothers and sisters.

I absolutely love watching action shows and movies. I find great joy in watching things get blown up on Mission:Impossible, the adventures of 007, Fast & Furious, Rush Hour, and of course re-runs of 24 (and yes I still love Jesus). What makes action movies so great…are the chase scenes. Usually, there is a good guy and not-so-good guy. Whether it’s a BMW, a Bugatti, or even a hoopty, one of these guys usually gets chased.

Here’s the point: God is faster than any car and more powerful than anyone. God’s love and grace is instantaneous, immediate, indescribable…simply incredible. I’m so grateful that God is chasing after us, more than we chase after Him. Because can we really catch up to Him? I believe what we can do, is accept the invitation to get in the “car” with Him. It doesn’t matter where you are coming from (your past), with God as your driver his only concern is where you’re going to (your future). That’s why God pursues us (all of us).

I dare you to let God chase after you. Romans 8:28-29 tells us that, “We know that in all things God works for good with those who love him, those whom he has called according to his purpose. Those whom God had already chosen he also set apart to become like his Son, so that the Son would be the first among many believers, (GNT).” Give God your heart, He pursues those who love Him. Let’s be obedient to His will. I can only speak for myself, I know I sometimes chase after everything but God; my dreams, my goals, my desires. Whenever I chase after those things, I always crash. But God…always out of His concern for me forgives me, and rushes quickly to my rescue. Join me in letting God be our driver, because He alone can take us to where we’re suppose to be in the first place.

Let’s pray: Wonderful and loving God, I now give you the keys of my life. I’m yours and thanks for taking me as I am. Transform me from the inside-out. Please continue to lead and guide me. Show me the beauty of your purpose and plan for my life. I trust you and thank you for chasing after me. In the matchless name of Jesus I pray…Amen.

Let’s Pray! : Adoration

1 Chronicles 29:10-13 (NIV)

David praised the Lord in the presence of the whole assembly, saying, “Praise be to you, Lord, the God of our father Israel, from everlasting to everlasting. Yours, Lord, is the greatness and the power and the glory and the majesty and the splendor for everything in heaven and earth is yours. Yours, Lord, is the kingdom; you are exalted as head over all. Wealth and honor come from you; you are the ruler of all things. In your hands are strength and power to exalt and give strength to all. Now, our God, we give you thanks, and praise your glorious name.”

Many of us are discouraged with prayer. We wait-and-wait for the response we think we should get from God. Sometimes we treat God’s grace, as if it’s a menu. “Hey God, can I get this? And can I get that? Oh, please I’ll take some of this too!” And then we come back for more…

I’m thankful, that prayer is not just about what we can get from God; prayer is our way to become closer with Him. In his book, Transforming Prayer, Daniel Henderson says that many of us, “seek God’s hand rather than His face.” Above all else, let us seek God first.

I believe as we seek God’s face, that’s how we find hope. As we seek God’s face through prayer, the Bible shows us many ways how to do it. Over the next few days, we are going to focus on some.

Today let’s focus on one: Adoration.

Adoration is when we worship God, not just for what He can do for us, but just for who He is. My life changed, when I stopped praying selfishly. It changed when I began to worship God (for who He is) through prayer.

Throughout your day, try keeping your heart open in prayer. Worship God all day. Thank Him for everything. If you are frustrated at work, worship God for the fact you have a job. If you’re in class, worship and adore God for your right mind. If you’re stuck in traffic, worship God that He’s taking you places.

Adoration is our intimacy with God. It’s how we are captivated with who He is. When we focus on who He is…it’s hard to focus on our issues and problems.

Let’s pray: God we adore you. In spite of everything, you are incredible. In Jesus name, Amen.

Let’s Pray! A simple overview of this week’s topic

A new semester…

An engaging career…

A budding relationship…

Life…can get busy.

Unfortunately, sometimes we get so busy; we don’t spend time with God. Sometimes we get so busy, we don’t take time to pray.

What is prayer?

It’s simply, communication with God. You can go to God about anything, any issue, any struggle, and any addiction. It doesn’t matter; God will always listen to you and your heart.

Why Pray? Great question…

Prayer strengthens our relationship with God.

God loves you and He desires a relationship with you. Just as in a relationship with someone you love, communication is key. Communication is important to God as well. Praying to God is more than a monologue; it’s a dialogue. Prayer requires us to listen.

“So faith comes from hearing, and hearing by the word of Christ.” Romans 10:17 (NASB)

Prayer strengthens our lives.

Having a growing prayer life can change your life. Praying is a habit…the more we do it, the more it becomes a lifestyle.

“Pray continually…” 1 Thessalonians 5:17 (NIV)

Prayer strengthens our relationship with others.

“The quickest way to change a relationship from bad to good is to start thanking God for people you are having difficulty getting along with.” – Rick Warren

Is anyone among you suffering? Let him pray. Is anyone cheerful? Let him sing praise.” James 5:13 (ESV)

The Pill

Our Text: Philippians 4:6 (CEV)

About two weeks ago I wasn’t feeling my best, and couldn’t figure out what the problem was. I tried taking it in my on hands, testing out different pain meds that I thought would stop the pain. One week has now gone by, and I wasn’t feeling any better; in fact, I felt worse. My face was swollen, my throat was way past sore, and I was exhausted.

So, I began to call on the name of JESUS, and the Holy Ghost said fool go to the doctor, lol. So I got myself together and headed to the doctor. On my way there, im thinking what can this doctor do that I can’t do for myself? Sitting in the doctors office I see all different types of people and everyone of them had an issue, and my issue compared to there’s was nothing. At my sickest point I began to thank GOD, because it could have been alot worse than it was.

On that day, I put my faith in that doctor, and believed that this medicine she was giving me would take the pain away. The doctor told me to take the pill, even after I felt better. Right at that moment, I had a revelation from GOD.

We tend to take life into our on hands, thinking we can handle it all on our own, and not using the resources we have as believers. It seems like we only turn to GOD when we can’t fix it ourselves. We need to seek him daily so that it will be natural for us to pray and use the resources he has placed here for the believer.

Philippians 4:6 (CEV) says,
“Don’t worry about anything, but pray about everything with thankful hearts offer up your prayers and request to GOD.”

GOD is waiting to give us a hand and show us the correct way to go, but we must move ourselves out of the way. We can’t be so prideful, that we think we don’t need help from GOD. When we don’t acknowledge Him, we are basically saying, “I got this far by myself with no help.”

The Bible (God’s word) is filled with His promises, I believe it’s the pill of life. Take it in everyday, and everything will go smoothly. How can you say you love GOD and not keep His commandments? No matter how good you feel, keep taking in this pill of life. Without GOD, we are nothing with out this pill…we will fail.

Let’s Pray: Hey GOD thank you for waking me up this morning, and letting see this beautiful day that you’ve made. Thank you for letting me learn from my mess-ups and thank you for helping me make the correct choices. GOD, I want to ask you to forgive me for my wrongs ways; I know I’m not the best I can be. Help me to be a better person. Help me to be thankful in all situations. Help me to bring all my issues to you and not worry, but pray about it all. GOD, I am not ashamed to say I need your help…I can’t live this life with out you! It was you that got me this far and only you can help me to keep going and not give up. Walk with me Lord GOD, please walk with me! In JESUS name, Amen.

GOD gives us the choice to do right, and the devil doesn’t have the power to make us do wrong. The choice is ours…

Life is full of choices. Everywhere we turn, in everything we do, we have to make choices; but it’s up to us to make the correct choices. We may not realize it at the moment, but every choice we make affects people around us.

Making the best choices can get hard when we get caught up with life. Every choice that we make fits the moment that we are in. We tend to only choose for these moments and we neglect the outcome. Sometimes our choices are not always the best. God has given us another choice…to live for Him.

GOD’S HEART HURTS to see us making the wrong choices, living carefree. (YOLO so make the best out of it). We must be mindful of how of our emotions; how we think, say, and do things. Life and death is a choice, I just want to encourage you to live for God.

Deuteronomy 30:19 (ESV) says, “ I call heaven and earth to witness against you today, that I have set before you life and death, blessing and curse. Therefore choose life, that you and your offspring may live.”

Let’s Pray: Hey GOD, it’s me again… just want to thank you for all that you do for me, and all you didn’t let happen to me. Without you, I would be nothing. Thank you for never giving up on me. GOD please forgive me for all my wrong ways, and help me to have the right spirit; not just right in my eyes, but right in your eyes. Help me to do the right thing when my flesh wants to do wrong. I pray that you will help me to think before I act or speak. In JESUS name…Amen!!
