Haltin Customs approved for Sport Truck bodies in 2011.

Starting in 2011, Haltin Customs will be providing the ONLY easy to install fiberglass body panels to all competitors in the Seekonk Sport Truck division. We will be using custom built molds to fit Seekonk Sport Trucks. It is the only body on the market to fit the SST ranging from 102” – 108” wheel base, also with the ability to fit the range of 64.5” – 68.5” tread width, the small 24” diameter tires, and the low roof height. We will have different headlight sticker kits to match different manufacturers. We are currently working on the molds to make high impact plastic nose and tail pieces right here in our local backyard. Along with the aero down force design of these covers, there will be no need to pay crazy shipping costs.

Seekonk Speedway sets rules meeting dates. 2011 on the agenda.

With the 2010 racing season completed, Seekonk Speedway management is already gearing up for the 66^th season at the Cement Palace. Once again, there will be two nights of action in this upcoming year, and this is a chance for all competitors to talk about the rules packages for their class of racers, and for the speedway itself.

The meetings will take place over two nights, and will be held at the American Legion Hall, at 350 Fall River Avenue in Seekonk. This is the same place that the meetings have been held at for the past several seasons. It is just past the Old Grist Mill, across from the Fire Fly golf course.

They will take place on Wednesday, October 27^th and Thursday, October 28. On Wednesday, the Pure Stocks will meet from 6:30-7:00pm. From 7:00 to 8:00, competitors from the Sport Truck class will gather, and at 8:00, the Pro Stocks will meet. On Thursday, the SYRA and Sport4 classes will gather together at 6:30-7:30. From then until 8:30, the Street Stocks will meet, with the Late Models going at 8:30.

We ask that drivers and owners only attend these meetings. It will be an open forum, allowing competitors to voice their opinions and concerns over the cars and help give positive feedback for the upcoming racing season.

2010 D.A.V. Fall Classic Results

DARLING DOMINANT IN DAV WIN

Rehoboth’s Dave Darling took the lead of the D. Anthony Venditti Memorial Pro Stock race coming off turn 4 of the eighth lap and clung steadfastly to his position for the remainder of the hundred circuits of Seekonk Speedway’s one-third mile bullring. He had started third, behind polesitter Russ Hersey, visiting from New Hampshire’s Monadnock Speedway. Hersey nabbed the lead off the green flag from Warwick driver Ryan Vanasse (who started the outside pole) and led through the first eight revolutions. Hersey clung to Darling’s rear bumper for the remainder of the race, providing a difficult affair for the winner. Darling’s margin of victory was just a half-second over Hersey.

Tom Scully, Jr. of Saunderstown, RI, finished third with division champ Fred Astle out of Westport, MA, on his bumper. Acushnet, MA driver Mike Brightman finished fifth. Returning drivers featured prominently in the top ten. Somerset’s Dave Hutchins, Sr. followed Brightman across the stripe. Hutch began the season with the division, but had taken most of the season off. Dick Houlihan of Bridgewater, MA, returned from retirement to drive the Ellis Racing 41 over the last few races and came home seventh. Tom Scully, Sr. joined his son in the fray and spent early parts of the race in pursuit of Hussey. Scully, Sr. claimed eighth on the day. Likewise Tiverton, RI driver Ray Parent, who also began the season, dropped out of the running then returned with a couple weeks remaining with a new car. Parent’s ninth place on the day rounded out returnees in the top 10. Tenth overall went to Pro Stock regular Jake Vanada of Berkley.

Hersey, starting alongside Vanasse, jumped quickly to the lead at the green. Darling had started immediately behind him, and moved up under Vanasse and into second. Hutchins eased under Vanasse and Vanada from his spot outside the third row and Dean Pettey, making just his second start on the season, followed into fourth. Vanada nabbed fifth spot. Darling chased Hersey through the first seven laps, when they began to lap Steve Desmaris, who was struggling with his car and headed for the pits.

But Desmaris’ car stalled in the pit tunnel, blocking the exit and brought out the first caution of the race. Darling lined up outside Hersey at the front with Hutchins and Pettey behind them. Vanasse and West Warwick’s Jeramee Lillie were row 3. At the green, Hersey and Darling went at it, door-to-door. Darling powered into the lead through turn four and crossed the stripe in front, not to be headed again in the remaining 92 laps.

Lap 10 saw Parent smoking badly from his left rear wheel well, down the front stretch, coming to rest near the wall between turns 1 and 2. At the same time, Vanasse and Lillie were together in front of the turn 4 pit entrance.

The restart saw Darling go to the lead again. Back in the pack, Kevin Casper, Vanasse and Lillie got into a 3-wide situation with Casper on the bottom and Vanasse in the middle. As the latter attempted to back out, he nosed into Lillie, and the duo got loose, catching Casper, who spun to the infield in turn 4. Lillie was able to continue, but Vanasse headed for the pits. Casper had to be taken off on the hook. A lap had not been completed, so the restart was again on the 10^th lap. Parent returned from the pits at this point, lucky to not be a lap down on the field.

As action resumed, Pettey tried to squeeze down to the groove, then backed off. Lillie caught him from behind and around he went. Pettey sat in turn 4 facing oncoming traffic, but all cars managed to get around him and he didn’t receive a single hit. Another restart had Darling leading Hersey. Hutchins tried to get his nose underneath for second, but had to fall back. Lap 11 found Tom Scully, Jr. rolling to a stop in front of the pit entrance, bringing out yet another caution.

Astle had improved his position from 12^th to 6^th in the early going.

Again, Darling went ahead with Hersey biting his back bumper. Hutchins made the underneath move stick, grabbing second away from Hersey. Houlihan began attempting the same move but was denied. By lap 15, the field was stringing out with Darling, Hutch, Hersey and Houlihan followed by Lillie, Mike Brightman, Astle, Vanasse and Ken Spencer. Houlihan continued to push at Hersey and finally took over third on the lap.

By lap 20, Rick Martin had come into fifth and was threatening Hersey.

The leaders came into lapped traffic on the 25^th circuit with the top 4 intact. Martin was pressing from fifth, followed by Brightman, Astle, Lillie, Vanasse, Spencer and Ron Smith. The field strung out and followed a pace line until lap 32, when Vanada, running twelfth, spun in turn 4, bringing out the caution.

On the restart, Darling went back to the front. Hersey took third from Houlihan. Spencer spun on the thirty-fourth lap in turn 3, bringing out the caution. Hutchins and Hersey then spun on the backstretch as cars locked up their brakes for Spencer. Since the yellow flag had already flown, the pair was not considered accident cars and were able to continue in their second and third slots.

Hutchins and Darling battled door-to-door at the green for an entire lap, but going into turn one on the next go-around, Smith spun up to the wall between turns one and two, coming to rest with his driver’s side against the wall. His 95 car was taken off by wrecker, ending his day.

Again it was wheel-to-wheel between Darling and Hutchins, until Darling gained the front at the starting line a lap later. Brightman edged Hersey for third, but a wild, 3-wide run between the pair and Hutchins saw Hersey come out behind Darling. Hutch fell back to third, while Astle used the moment to jump past Brightman to third. Elmer Wing III then had his right rear tire go down, marooning him in turn 2.

The lap 40 saw Darling to the lead on the backstretch. Astle went to the high side on Hutchins and they battled, with Astle winning the battle on lap 46’s first turn. Brightman went under Hutchins for third and Scully, Sr. moved him back to fifth with another underneath move. Hutchins then spun on lap 49’s second turn and Lillie, avoiding, spun to the infield just past the curve with a flat left rear after a collision with Vanada. Both Vanada and Lillie went to the pits for repairs.

Darling again had the pole with Hersey on his outside. Astle and Brightman were on their bumpers and Scully, Sr. and Martin made up row 3. Scully, Jr. and Parent followed. Darling went to the lead over Hersey with Brightman and Astle battling for third. Martin tried under Scully, Sr., but had to fall back. On lap 54, Darling had a car on Hersey and there was a 4-car gap back to Brightman and Astle.

By lap 62, the lead duo had a straightaway lead over the field. Astle went to the outside of Brightman for the pass two laps later and Scully, Sr. pulled up to the latter’s bumper. A raging battle ensued, but Astle was unable to power past the stubborn Brightman. Scully held on, awaiting an opportunity. The duel slowed the chase trio down and by lap 70; Darling and Hersey were a half lap ahead with only each other to worry over. Brightman, Astle, Scully Sr. and Jr., Martin and Hutchins followed in a group.

Into lap 79, Astle stayed on Brightman’s shoulder, refusing to give up his attempt at the third spot. Scully, Jr. had moved in behind the duo.

As the leaders approached Houlihan to put him a lap down, Lillie spun in front of him. All three were able to avoid the spinning car as the yellow flag waved. It took three attempts to make the restart on lap 83. Vanada spun in turn three on the first attempt, and then the next restart was called back when Hersey jumped early at the line. Darling again took the lead when the green stuck. Astle tried to run under Hersey but was denied. Scully, Jr. followed into third with Brightman, Martin, Vanada, Houlihan and Scully, Sr. behind.

With Martin trying to run under Brightman on lap 95, the two got tied together, with Martin’s right front wheel climbing over Brightman’s right rear and stopping atop the rear quarter. The pair came out of turn 4 and down the front stretch trailing a fogbank of tire smoke until Martin’s car dropped back to the pavement in the first turn.

On the restart, Scully, Jr. finessed his way past Astle for third behind Darling and Hersey.

The final 6 laps unwound with no change between the leaders, and Darling claiming the trophy at the checkers.

MCKENNEDY GOES GREEN TO CHECKERS IN MODIFIED RACING SERIES AT DAV

East Chelmsford, MA driver Jon McKennedy snared the lead of the Modified Racing Series 100-lapper at Seekonk’s D. Anthony Venditti Memorial Race, Sunday, and was not headed, executing a green-flag-to-checkers win for his third series victory on the season. The win edges him closer to the division’s championship with just two events remaining.

McKennedy had two challengers through the long competition: Richard Savary of Canton, MA and Todd Annarummo of Swansea. Both drivers are eminently familiar with the 1/3-mile Southeastern Massachusetts asphalt and both are sons of drivers with long histories of numerous victories at the oval.

Savary pushed McKennedy for the first 70 laps with a very fast car and then Annarummo, who won the previous MRS event at the Cement Palace, took over to press a challenge. “Todd has a lot of laps here; he’s the last guy I wanted back there. Luckily, we were able to hold him off, “said McKennedy after the finish.

Stephen Masse, Bellingham, MA, Ken Barry, Preston, CT, Dave Berghman, Seekonk, MA, Les Hinckley III, Windsor Locks, CT, Ryan Preece, Berlin, CT, Max Zachem, Preston, CT, Jack Bateman, Canaan, NH, and Louie Mechalides, Tyngsboro, MA rounded out the top 10.

McKennedy started the pole and had Savary on his shoulder at the start. The eventual winner jumped to the lead and Savary locked himself in behind, and stayed there for 70 grinding laps. Entering the 71^st lap, as the leaders came up to loop Pennsylvanian Rowan Pennink, he looped his car, coming out the fourth turn into the front stretch. McKennedy and Savary split to avoid and the rest of the lead pack, including Annarummo (third,) Vermonter Dwight Jarvis and Masse was able to avoid wrecking.

Series officials at this point called a red flag on the field as the sun was low over the stadium. Drivers, especially Bridgewater’s Jimmy Kuhn, had warned them that this time of the day created dangerous vision lapses on the course and they had planned in the event that drivers began to experience problems, to delay the race in progress until the situation abated. Approximately 10 minutes were required to wait until the sun dipped below the stadium wall.

The restart had McKennedy and Savary again on the front row with Annarummo low in the following pair. Jarvis was at his shoulder. Masse and Les Hinckley (a previous winner this year) made up row 3. McKennedy regained the lead, but Annarummo got under Savary, keeping him to the outside, and he began to fade back, finally able to settle into fourth behind Masse. Lap 76 saw Shelly Perry spin in turn one sending Rob Williams, Kuhn, Jim Dolan and Rob Goodenough into a stalled cluster up near the turn 2 wall. Dolan had to be towed from the track, ending his racing for the day.

McKennedy and Annarummo resumed their duel for another 2 laps, until another group got together in turn one. Kuhn, Jarvis, Ken Vogel, Jr. and Williams ground to a halt bringing out the caution. McKennedy was at the front in the restart once again, but Masse was trying to work his way under Annarummo. Todd held him off and went back to bother McKennedy’s rear bumper. Masse stayed on his quest and harried Annarummo for the rest of the race, working to get under again on lap 85.

The play between the pair gave McKennedy some small respite, but did not take away the challenge as he edged two cars on them. Annarummo briefly shook Masse and went back to finding a circuit around McKennedy.

With three laps remaining, McKennedy turned on a small reserve and moved a bit ahead of his challenger, but Annarummo pulled back in behind. The final two circuits were a catch-me-if-you-can proposition. But Annarummo was unable to generate a pass and they flashed under the checkers with McKennedy 2 tenths of a second ahead.

BERUBE LEADS TRUCKS FROM GREEN TO CHECKERS

Somerset’s Ted Berube went from the outside pole to victory lane with seeing a truck ahead for the entire 30 laps of the race. He had two harriers on the day: Sport Trucks divisional champ Radical Rick Martin, who had earned polesitter honors, and Ed Gannon. Gannon, from Fall River, got around Westporter Martin with two laps remaining to garner a second place on the event. Gannon had also led laps 7 through 14 up to the midpoint of the race.

Barry Shaw, making his second start in a new truck, finished a strong third on the field. The remainder of the top 10 were: Dan Leach N. Dighton, Ma, Mike Cavallaro, Seekonk, Russ Borges, Michael Ronhock, Mashpee, Ma, Lenny Guy, New Bedford, MA and Steve Dumas of Quincy.

The start had to be called back, as an aggressive Berube jumped and the yellow flew. Back for a second try, he leapt away from Martin into the lead.

With Berube having no problem moving away at the front, Gannon settled in to challenging Martin for second. But on lap 6, Dennisport driver Joseph Gardner spun off turn four and into the infield grass at the stripe. Berube went back to busying himself at the front while Gannon went low under Martin. Shaw was on their tails. Gannon went to second and Shaw dropped under Martin in a try to wrest third from him. He popped through and by lap 12 it was Berube, Gannon and Shaw, followed by Martin and Borges.

By the midway point, Berube was lapping Gardner. Dumas and Guy got together in the same lap, coming off turn 4, bringing out the caution.

Gannon was outside Berube on the restart, and as Berube went back to the lead, Martin nosed under to deprive Gannon of second. Shaw and Borges gave chase. With 10 to go, Martin began to close on Berube and as he neared, started for the outside for the pass. Martin seemed able to move closer on the corners, but Berube had the power to pull away on the straights. Gannon pulled up behind and the three were bunched with five laps remaining.

Lap 27 Martin once again on Berube’s back bumper, but Gannon got a nose under Martin, which pulled him away from the leader. Gannon pushed ahead and crossed the stripe just .056 in front to take second, relegating Martin to third.

ARSENAULT BRINGS HOME WIN IN STREET STOCKS

Mark Henshaw, Jr. of Raynham led off from the pole with Attleboro’s Sparky Arsenault on his shoulder. Scott Serydynski of W. Greenwich, RI started third. The trio shared the three places at the front throughout the race and Arsenault led the final 21 laps of the 30-lapper for the victory.

Henshaw went to the front and led the first nine laps. On lap 8 Crystal Serydynski of Johnston, RI, and Ryan Lineham, from Coventry, rubbed fenders at the stripe, with Lineham coming unglued from the surface, rotating 180 degrees and backing into the wall between turns 1 and 2, ending his day at the DAV. The wrecker had to lift the rear end clear of the track to tow it from the field.

On the restart, Arsenault and Henshaw (still on the pole) came out side-by-side. But Bob Bettencourt’s motor blew on the first circuit, earning him a black flag from the starter. Next time around, Henshaw got loose out of turn 4, going sideways and giving up the lead to Arsenault.

A lead he would not relinquish. Scott Serydynski was also able to get by Henshaw, who settled into third, ahead of Paul Lallier and Cumberland’s Mike Mitchell. Henshaw settled in and followed Serydynski for the next 9 laps.

On lap 16, Henshaw got his nose under Serydynski in an attempt to wrest second back. The two were wheel-to-wheel for a pair of laps before Henshaw could take advantage. Lapped traffic lay before them on the backstretch, and Henshaw was able to get underneath the lapped car, which peeled Serydynski off his outside, forcing him to drop in behind on lap 18.

With 10 to go, Arsenault had a 15-car lead over Henshaw and had upped the margin to a quarter-lap by lap 23. Henshaw held a 3-car margin over Serydynski with Woonsocket Rocket, Chris Beaulieu another 5 cars back.

At the finish, it was Arsenault with a 1.704 second lead over Henshaw, Serydynski and Beaulieu. Plymouth’s Paul Newcomb finished fifth. Mike Mitchell, Cumberland, RI, Justin Travis, E. Taunton, MA, Lallier, Chris DeMoura, N. Dighton, MA, and Westporter Bobby Trip rounded out the top 10.

LATE MODEL CHAMP VANASSE WINS LATE MODELS

Tiverton, RI driver Ray Parent went to the front on lap 9 of the 50-lap Late Model feature at the DAV Memorial race, then led the rest of the 50 laps to the finish, only to be disqualified during post race tech inspection. That left the rest of the story in Ryan Vanasse’s hands. The reigning divisional champ, from Warwick, RI, had chased Parent from the midpoint of the race to the finish and was waiting in the wings. Colbey Fournier from Berkley, MA, ran a strong second half to run home on Vanasse’s coattails, followed by Somerset’s Kyle Casper.

Gerry DeGasparre, Jr, Pawtucket, RI, Robert Pelland III, Cranston, RI, Matt Breault, Acushnet, MA, Mike Cavallaro, Seekonk, MA, Robert Hussey, Wellfleet, MA, John Paiva, Fall River, MA and Kevin Folan, Attleboro, MA, rounded out the top ten on the afternoon.

Folan started on the pole with Bridgewater’s Jimmy Rosenfield on his outside. DeGasparre and Parent were behind them and Middleboro’s Randy Burr and Vanasse made up the third row on the grid. Pelland and Cavallaro followed. Folan jumped off the pole but Pelland spun in turn one, collecting Dennis Stange, Paiva and Kyle DeSouza. Stange had extreme damage to his right front, and the right front wheel hung askew, and had to be towed to the pits. The wreck ended his participation. New to the division, Crystal Serydynski (moving up from Street Stocks) and Dylan Estrella (from Sport trucks) also retired at this point.

Without a lap complete, the race went back to a full restart. Rosenfield led lap one by a hair at the stripe, but Folan came back to take the lead on lap 2. DeGasparre came up to second as Rosenfield settled into third. Parent began working his way around Rosenfield on lap 5 and took control of third place on lap 6. On the next circuit, he aimed around DeGasparre, and then settled in behind Folan on the eighth revolution.

Lap nine saw him go to the front, settling in front of Folan at the stripe. As Parent pulled away from the field, Vanasse was moving forward. Suddenly, Folan, DeGasparre and Vanasse found themselves in a three-wide situation before Vanasse elected to back out. Parent was leading DeGasparre by 4 cars with Vanasse 3 behind DeGasparre in third.

On lap 15, Parent led DeGasparre and Vanasse, still; there was a long gap back to Rosenfield and Randy Burr. Rosenfield went around and collected Burr and Tyler Thompson. All three cars went to the pits. Burr and Thompson did not return.

From that point, Parent continued to pull away. Vanasse was able to get under DeGasparre for second on lap 16 and attempted to chase him down. At the midpoint on the race, Parent was 4 cars up on the rest of the field and 5 cars up to laps later.

Fournier made the pass under DeGasparre for third and Kyle Casper followed, dropping DeGasparre to fifth. With 10 laps remaining, Parent’s lead had slipped to 3 cars. Vanasse began to slowly close on Parent, but slipped back to 5 lengths. He put on another effort and cut the lead to 4 car lengths by lap 45. From there it was a dead heat with Parent crossing the line under the checkers.

Vanasse, however, brought home the win as Parent was disqualified in post race inspection.

BOTELHO NABS NEMA CROWN AT DAV

Attleboro driver Keith Botelho came back to the sport and midget racing after a long layoff, in a veteran car with a veteran motor and a veteran crew. The combination spelled victory for him as he took the lead away from John Zych, Jr. on lap 9 and lead the remaining 16 laps to the finish. “I was expecting somebody to come by me,” said Botelho of the surprising ease of his victory. “I knew Cicconi was back there and I was waiting for him or somebody else to come rolling by.” Nobody could do it, and Botelho found himself in Victory Lane at race’s end.

Greg Stoehr from Bridgewater, MA, took second and Zych finished third. Rounding out the top 10 were: Chris Leonard of Pelham, NH., Chris Deritis of Philadelphia, Anthony Nocella of Woburn, MA, Chris Abold of Pennellville, NY, Cicconi of Ashton, PA, Jim Miller of Weymouth, MA, and Russ Stoehr of Bridgewater. Russ Stoehr and Randy Cabral had come into the event with Cabral trailing the points leader by 22 points and Cabral had high hopes of gaining on Stoehr. But lap 4 trouble with a flat left front tire sidelined him from the race, dropping him to 21^st overall with just one event remaining in the NEMA season: the World Series at Thompson Speedway in Connecticut next weekend.

Zych, from Liverpool, NY, leapt off the pole and led the first nine circuits on the 63-year-old racetrack, designed originally for midget racing.

Zych had a firm handle on the early stages of the race, running away from the field after the lap 4 restart for Cabral’s flat. With Botelho on his outside shoulder, he wasted no time in blasting away and back into the top spot. He was easily moving away when, going into lap 10, Barry Kittredge’s motor quit on the backstretch, bringing out the caution.

On the restart, Botelho stood on his throttle and held it down until he was into the lead. Zych held onto second, and Greg Stoehr passed Chris Deritis for third. Now it was Botelho’s turn to run out to a big lead. Stoehr, who had taken over second from Zych on lap 13, gave chase. Over the last 10 laps, Stoehr ate up the distance and was on Botelho’s rear bumper on the 22^nd circuit. But Botelho reached down and pulled ahead a half car length, winning over Stoehr at the line by .155 seconds.

DAVE RICHARDI DAV VICTOR IN PRO-4 MODS

Dave Richardi Jr. of North Easton, MA took off from his pole position at the start to lead the Pro Four Modified Racing Series race from green to checkers. He had also taken the July Seekonk Pro 4 event. Phil Lausier of Hudson, NH, came off the outside pole to chase Richardi through the first part of the race. Norman Wrenn of Nashua worked his way from fifth to third by the third circuit. Adam Norton of Brookfield, MA, Brian Vincent of West Warwick and New Hampshire driver Tyler Anderson followed.

Richardi was into lapped traffic by lap 9 and Lausier joined him with Wrenn on his tail.

Robin Berghman went around off turn 4, bringing out a lap 12 restart. Richardi went to the lead. Wrenn followed him through underneath Lausier and claimed second. Wrenn remained hard on Richardi’s back bumper through lap 16, then nosed to the outside for a pass. Unable to get by, he pulled back in behind and was up on his back bumper again.

They began to encounter lapped traffic on lap 20, cutting chances for a good pass.

Richardi’s brother Dave looped off turn 4 and spun down in front of the starter to bring out the yellow flag. Rob Richardi pulled out to an edgy lead over Wrenn on the restart and took a full lap to get the door shut. Brewster, MA driver Dan Meservey, Jr. pulled into third behind Wrenn, just ahead of Brian Vincent of West Warwick.

Richardi built a car lead over Wrenn by lap 27, when Anderson spun in turn 2. He did a masterful job in saving, having gone almost to the wall.

Richardi had some share of relief as tour rules dictate single file restarts late in the race. Nonetheless, Wrenn stayed glued to his bumper with Meservey holding third. Richardi held on to the checkers with Wrenn second and Meservey third. Rounding out the top five were: Norton and Vincent, Lausier was sixth.

RUSS WOOD TAKES NEMA LITES

One week after a difficult time with the old Cement Palace and finishing 19^th in his ISMA Supermodified race, Russ Wood returned to Seekonk for the D. Anthony Venditti Memorial, hopped into his son’s NEMA Lite car and went out to dominate the field of competitors. Russ Wood, Jr. was forced out of the event by a foot injury, so dad gladly filled the seat for him. It was a win-win situation for Russ, Sr. and the fans.

Wood, from Pelham, NH, started fifth, behind Paul Bigelow of Berlin, CT and Ryan Bigelow of East Hampton, CT. New Ipswich, NH’s Andy Barrows and East Hampton, CT driver Randy Bigelow made up the second row. Joe Krawiek was on Wood’s shoulder. Also swelling the ranks were NEMA regulars Randy Cabral and Lou Cicconi, Jr. – both starting from the back of the pack.

Wood jumped to third on the green and motored for 6 laps, while Paul Bigelow and Barrows battled over third. On lap 6, Wood erupted, going around and into the lead, sending Bigelow to second. Bigelow held the spot until Cabral came up to pass on lap 18.

Wood began to stretch his lead, and was ahead by the length of a straightaway on lap 12. Cabral and Cicconi were trading places back in the pack until Cabral began to move steadily to the front, going from eighth to second, moving up a place per lap until he had the second spot. Cicconi went to fifth on lap 16 and held that position for 5 laps, moving past Barrows into fourth.

Krawiek had been moved back to fourth on Cabral’s pass into third, but he eased Barrows out to secure third on lap 20.

Wood completed the 25 laps in the lead, 1.111 seconds ahead of Cabral with Krawiek, Cicconi and Barrows in the top 5.

Rounding out the top 10 were Dave Moniz from Fairhaven, MA, Jim Santa Maria, Burlington, CT, Lanson Fornoro, Stroudsburg, PA, Paul Bigelow and Ryan Bigelow.

UHRIG TAKES PURE STOCKS FROM GREEN TO CHECKERs

Pure Stock champion for 2010, Nick Uhrig of Warwick, RI, leapt off the pole and led the field from start to finish. Jamie Salley of Taunton, MA, gave chase from the outside pole to the checkers, but could not overhaul the champ on his way to the DAV win. Ed Flanagan Jr. from Warwick finished third. Rounding out the top ten were Mark Boisvert, Uxbridge, Ma, Amy Arsenault, Concord, NC, Earl Curtin III West Warwick, RI, Bill Chouinard Swansea, MA, Randy Moretti West Warwick, Doug Benoit, Swansea, MA, and Kent Hopkins, East Taunton, MA.

Uhrig went to the lead off the green with Salley on his shoulder, battling. Flanagan tried to get underneath, but Salley kept it side-by-side with Uhrig and Flanagan fell back. Bill Chouinard followed with Moretti and Curtin behind.

On lap 6, with Salley clinging to Uhrig’s back bumper, Joe Carpenter had the rim fly off his car in turn 2 and over the wall, putting the 51 car into a spin. He went off on the hook and was gone for the duration.

On the restart, Uhrig and Salley again were door-to-door at the front and they battled at the green. Uhrig claimed the lead in turn 4. Flanagan briefly held second, but Salley would not yield and reclaimed the spot. Brendan Lord spun to the grass on lap 12,

As Uhrig again grabbed the front on the backstretch after the restart, Moretti looped between turns 1 and 2, but wasn’t hit and he kept it going. Then Benoit spun, causing Vinny Pangelinan and Jamie Burch to collide. The lap13restart had Uhrig and Salley followed by Flanagan and Arsenault. Boisvert and Chouinard made up row 3.

Uhrig leapt to a big lead with Salley falling in behind. It was a straight run for Uhrig to the checkers with no further cautions. Salley kept pace as Boisvert and Arsenault dueled behind him. Chouinard was on their back bumper, looking for an opportunity. Kent Hopkins and Curtin followed. Curtin moved past on lap 17.

Uhrig had Salley locked to his rear bumper through the last 7 laps to the checkers, but all Salley could do at that point was hold on for second.

LASCUOLA ADDS DAV TO SYRA 600 CHAMPIONSHIPS

Nick Lascuola from Brockton led all but 4 laps of the 25-lap SYRA 600 race, giving him the Venditti Memorial trophy to add to his divisional championship. He finished with a whopping 7-second lead over runnerup Jason Enos II of Assonet, MA. Branden Dion of Taunton was third. Rounding out the field were Chase Belcher of West Wareham, MA, Shelby Donovan, Waterford, CT, Curtis Rolando, Newport, RI, Christine Cavallaro, Seekonk, Willy Sanchez, Providence, Tylar Nailor, Marstons Mills, MA, David Lougee, Taunton, MA, Kieran Carpenter and Tyler Boudreau.

Tylar Nailor and Chase Belcher started the front row; they battled out of the green for position. On turn two, Kiera Carpenter spun in turn two, but she was able to gather it in and the race proceeded. Coming out of 4, Nailor got sideways. Cars scrambled and Rolando and Sanchez were tagged in the melee. Without a lap complete, the field came back for a restart. Belcher and Lascuola led off at the front with Rolando and Branden Dion behind them.

Belcher went to the lead, but Carpenter spun between turns 1 and 2. Cars scattered around her, but Shelby Donovan struck a glancing blow on Carpenter’s driver’s side. The car was pushed to the pits and ended its night.

On the ensuing restart, Belcher and Lascuola again battled. Coming to the stripe, Belcher got loose and Lascuola moved ahead to lead lap one. Dion settled on Belcher’s bumper wile Enos went under Dion to take third. As they battled door-to-door, Belcher and Lascuola exchanged the lead until lap 7, when Dion lost power at the end of the backstretch, bringing out the caution.

On the restart, Lascuola went to the lead as Belcher fell back and Enos went under to take second. By lap 7, Lascuola had built a 3 car lead as Belcher and Enos scrapped over second. Rolando, Dion, Donovan and Nailor followed. Seven laps later, Lascuola had built a quarter- lap lead while Belcher and Enos continued to duel.

Dion came up to pass Belcher, then move on to scrap with Enos over second place. On lap 20, he moved alongside and the two rubbed paint through turn 4. The battle continued through the checkered flag. Lascuola claimed victory, 7 seconds ahead then Enos edged Dion by a bumper for second.

KUHN COMES BACK TO WIN SYRA 750

Ashley Kuhn of Plymouth, MA survived a crash fest that grounded half her competitors, then hung tough after falling to the back of the field of 3 cars remaining to come from behind, then win going away in SYRA 750 action at the DAV.

Somerset’s Dave Hutchins, Jr. led off from the pole with Kaitlyn Donovan of Waterford, CT on his outside. Fairhaven, MA driver Adam Swift and Nate Bubello of Holliston, MA were the second row, with Jacob Swift of Fairhaven and Kuhn behind them.

Coming off the start, Hutchins spun in the second turn and went to the rear of the field. Donovan had Adam Swift on the outside got the start and went to the lead. Bubello went underneath and created a three-wide situation with Donavan and Swift above him. Bubello gained the lead in turn four, while Hutchins was coming around the whole field. Adam Swift tapped Hutchins and he spun, with the entire field scattering to avoid. Donovan did well, navigating through a cavorting group of mini cup cars to emerge unscathed. She moved into the lead over Jacob Swift. Adam spun in turn 4 and then Jacob was around a half lap later, on the backstretch. Both left for the pits. Only Adam was able to return. On the restart, Donovan and Kuhn led Bubello and Swift out of the box. Donovan grabbed the lead, and Kuhn settled into second.

With Donovan moving away, Swift began to attempt an underneath pass on Kuhn in lap 3. They diced it up for two laps with Swift going to second. Bubello began falling back and went to the pits on the next lap.

Into lap 8, Donovan led Swift and Kuhn. But Kuhn gathered it up and on lap 18 moved under Swift for second. Donovan had a 30-yard lead on lap 17. But Kuhn bore down and began edging up on the leader. On lap 20, the lead had narrowed to 15 yards.

Kuhn got under Donovan and into the lead on lap 23. Donovan began to overtake, but was unable to make up her distance before the checkered flag, giving Kuhn a well-earned victory. Donovan was second with Swift gaining third. Of the off-track cars, Bubello came in fourth, with 5 laps of 25 complete. Jacob Swift was fifth and Hutchins sixth, both with but one lap completed.

SILVA TOPS SPORT FOURS

Ken Silva dominated the Sport Four division at the Venditti Memorial, taking over at the green and leading the entire distance to the finish. The division champ can add another to the five wins he had already claimed this season.

Ed Gould powered around the field from his last place start to gain runnerup honors.

Silva and Keith Anderson car faced off at the front of the field with East Taunton’s Dave Westgate and Robert Henry of Cranston Behind him. Vincent Arrenegado and Christopher Bissell of Coventry were the third row with Gould starting scratch.

At the start, Silva went to the front while Westgate dived underneath, coming out in second. Anderson got loose and Arrenegado almost wrecked, falling to third and Anderson to fourth. Meanwhile, Gould was coming up fast.

Westgate spun coming off turn 4, up near the wall, and Gould, coming around high, barely made it between Silva and the wall, but came out unscathed. The restart on lap 3 had Arrenegado outside Silva. Westgate restarted from the rear as an accident car.

Silva was able to jump away from Arrenegado, as Gould quickly came up from fourth on the grid into second. Keith Anderson got up into Westgate, and the latter spun and back to the wall, but did not make hard contact.

This time, Gould started outside Silva at the front with Arrenegado and Bissell on the second row. Westgate was at the rear again.

Silva again nabbed the lead with Gould second. Arrenegado followed and Westgate jumped to third. Gould was working high trying to generate a pass, but Silva began pulling away. By lap 7 the two leaders led the pack by a quarter-lap.

Silva edged out to a three car lead and Westgate edged into fourth. As Arrenegado got sideways, Westgate got underneath and into third. By the midpoint, Silva had a 6-lap bulge over Gould and Westgate was a half-lap behind in third.

As the laps wound down, neither Gould nor Westgate could close up. With Bob Henry trying to get off the track and getting stuck at the pit entrance, a lap 19 caution was called. On the restart, Westgate was unable to hold position and both Arrenegado and Anderson were able to get by for the finish.

Johnny Benson, Jr., of Cornelius, NC, took 28 laps to place himself in front of the field of Supermodifieds at the Racing Against Breast Cancer event at Seekonk Speedway, then spent the rest of the 100 circuits defending his position against all-time ISMA win leader Chris Perley en route to a big win for the former NASCAR Winston Cup rookie of the year and 2008 Craftsman Truck Series champion. Benson muscled Brad Lichty’s Patco Transportation supermod through a field thorny with top competitors like Rob Summers, former ISMA champ Russ Wood and current points leader Mike
Lichty in the other Brad Lichty car.

Perley, the Rowley Rocket, points champion six of the past seven years, had been on a tear, winning three of the last five events on this International Supermodified Association tour. He’d also won three of the seven ISMA events at the Cement Palace. On the evening, he’d have been the toast of the field, but Benson was a half second better.

Rookie David Gruel, Justin Belfiore and Rob Summers rounded out the top 5.

“I can’t say thank you enough to the Lichty family and everybody who works in this organization,” said Benson after the race. “They are such a great family to me. It means more to me winning this race with Brad and this group. It definitely means a lot.”

Rob Summers, fresh from qualifying a modified at Stafford Motor Speedway in the afternoon, jumped from the pole position into the lead. Teammate Russ Wood, who was second in points to Lichty, pulled in behind (from his fifth place starting position) on lap 6 and took over the lead on the tenth circuit. Summers reclaimed the front on lap 14. Wood continued to dog his tracks until lap 24, when a charging Benson, moved past him into second. Wood suddenly slowed then went to the pits, losing laps. (He later returned to finish 19^th on the 25-car field, 22 laps down.)

Benson took four laps to set up a move to the front for good.

Perley had started ninth to Benson’s tenth. Benson, however, had leapt to seventh on the first lap. Perley took a more cautious place, nipping his way to second behind Benson on lap 34. If low-eleven second laps can be called cautious. However, in lapped traffic, a loosening car was problematic for Perley. While Benson could slalom through the myriad traffic, his challenger had to operate with care. “If I had made any sort of goofy move, I would have spun myself out,” he said after the race. Still, on the long grind, he was able to hold position and the leaders remained within a few lengths on stretches of open-track racing.

On the several cautions, however, Perley was stuck with lapped cars between himself and his quarry, having to pass them before he could set his sights on Benson again. Still, at the finish, Perley made a dash for his adversary, finishing just about a car-length back.

Oswego, NY native Gruel was making his first tour of Seekonk and driving his first race in a Super with a wing, having graduated from Oswego’s small-block Supermodifieds into the wingless supers common only to the upstate NY half mile. The ISMA rookie had started just behind Benson in 11^th place, and then slowly and carefully moved up through the field, pulling into fourth behind Lichty on the forty-fifth circuit. He was finally able to overhaul Lichty on lap 90 and hold him off through the checkers.

Summers, who had fallen back to ninth at midrace, moved into fifth place, with 3 circuits left, dropping Lichty back to sixth. Eric Lewis was able to pry his way past for sixth on the final lap, leaving Lichty in seventh.

Rounding out the top ten finishers were Mark Sammut, Joey Scanlon and Jon Gambutti.

Post-race activities saw Benson and ISMA presenting a $2500 check of the supers’ purse money to the Kraze’s Speed Equipment Racing Against Breast Cancer fund.

Super Dave Sanborn of Tilton, NH needed only two moves to bring home victory in the 350 cubic inch Supermodified event at the Racing Against Breast Cancer night at Seekonk: he moved up from his third place starting position on the first lap of the race, and then took over the lead on the tenth circuit. Polesitter Tom Tombarello of Haverhill and Sanborn were the only leaders in the feature, which started 13 cars. Butch Valley, Jr., PJ Stergios, Ed Witkum, Jr. and Mike Netishen rounded out the top 5.

Tombarello grabbed the lead from polesitter Ed Holewiak of Somerset, a Seekonk regular, driving a newly-acquired car in his first Supermodified feature race. Holewiak had neatly won his heat race earlier in the day. Tombarello quickly moved into second and began to chase Tombarello. Byfield, Mass. Driver Donny Bowles claimed third over Holewiak, who in turn was chased by Mike Caswell, Valley and Stergios.

On lap 7, a black flag flew for Witkum and the Westford, MA native headed for the pit entrance. Tony Carroll suddenly went up into the backstretch wall on the same circuit, bringing out a caution. Though the wreck retired Carroll from the race, it gave Witkum time to affect repairs and return to the field without losing any laps. Carroll’s car came off the wall and ground to a halt at the lower edge of the track, headed into turn 3. Carroll stepped from the car uninjured and began the long walk up the track to the turn 3 pit entrance. Tombarello had Sanborn on his outside for the restart with Bowes and Caswell behind them. Tombarello went to the lead again, with Sanborn and Bowes following. A gap opened up back to Witkum who was being shadowed by Valley.

Valley moved around into fourth. On lap 10, Sanborn got underneath Tombarello into the lead with Bowes following setting Tombarello into fourth ahead of Valley and Stergios. Lap 12 saw Valley move underneath into third. And going into lap 15, Sanborn led Bowes, Valley, Stergios and Tombarello.

The field wound around the oval until, on lap 27, Bowes got into a lapped car and looped in turn 4. Tombarello elected to turn into the pits and collected Caswell, who was about to go around him on the outside. The hit sprung Caswell’s radiator and dislocated his left front wheel, sending a cascade of coolant down turn 4. It ended Caswell’s night. Tombarello was able to affect repairs and return to the fray for the restart.

Sanborn and Valley faced off for the restart. The two went door-to-door for two laps, with Sanborn finally closing down a lead on lap 29. He began to edge away and spent the final 5 laps building an 8-car lead over Valley. Stergios edged Witkum into fourth with Mike Netishen behind at the checkers. Bowes finished 6^th, and Holewiak captured seventh. Daniel Lane, Tombarello and John Leonard rounded out the top 10.

Divisional leader Chris McKinstry claimed victory in a Northeast Mini Stock Association race amid a chorus of boos from an angry crowd of race fans at Seekonk Saturday night. The anger was not directed at the winner but at tour officials’ decision to black flag race leader Tim Jackson of Jeffery, NH with just two laps remaining – at a time that he was leading the race by nearly half a lap.

Tire softener had been detected on Jackson’s car earlier in the evening, but he had been allowed to start the race. Jackson had started 17^th in an 18-car field and began moving quickly to the front, while Mike Metcalf of Westminster, VT grabbed the lead, followed by Seekonk veteran Bill Schoeler of Warwick. Schoeler spun in turn two, but the field was able to avoid him and he kept it going. Foster, RI’s Roger Ducharm tried getting around Metcalf and edged ahead on lap four.

A lap 5 spin in turn 4 brought out the caution and the field regrouped with Metcalf and Ducharme on the front row. Metcalf again claimed the lead, but Ducharme was running him hard when Beth Adams and Dwayne Dorr got together in turn 4. A red flag was called and the ambulance rolled to Adams’ car. She was able to walk to the ambulance. John Kelley was dead in the water and had to be pushed to the pits.

The lap 6 restart saw Metcalf go to the lead again with Ducharme battling on the high side. Emerson Cayer managed to sandwich himself between them and into the lead with Metcalf getting loose in turn two. By lap 10, Cayer appeared to be running away from the field with Ducharme, Metcalf and Lauren Smith in pursuit. Seekonk’s Mike Viens, Calvin Rose, Jr., McKinstry and Jackson were also in pursuit.

Cayer continued to lead in lap 15 with Ducharme a distance back. Another gap to Rose and another to Jackson as caution flew again. The lap 14 restart had Cayer and Ducharme on the outside row with Rose and Jackson behind them. Cayer again nabbed the lead while Rose jumped under and into second. Ducharme went back under to reclaim second, but Jackson got under him to take it away on lap 17.

Jackson began to pressure Cayer and passed underneath into the lead on lap 18’s second turn. The very fast Jackson immediately began to pull away and by lap 20 had a lead on Cayer, Rose, McKinstry and Ducharme. By lap 25, he had forged a 1/3 lap lead over the field. On the 27^th circuit, he was into lapped traffic and had a full straightaway lead over the second place car.

Jackson was having little problem handling the oval, going deep underneath and 3-wide around lapped traffic.

At the midway point, Mike Metcalf went to the grass in turn 2 bringing out the caution, and had to be pushed to the pits. Jackson restarted with the lapped Chad Baxter on his shoulder and another lapped car, Louis Maher at his back. Cayer was on the outside of the second row. McKinstry and Rose were row three.

Jackson went to the lead like a rocket, while McKinstry went to the bottom of the track to gain second. Cayer nabbed third and Rose fourth. By lap 42, Jackson was enjoying a straightway lead over the trio. On lap 50, he had yet again forged a third-of-a-lap lead over his pursuers.

Schoeler looped into the grass in turn two on lap 65 and retired to the pits. Two lapped cars restarted between Jackson and McKinstry with Cayer and another lapped car behind them. Jackson again went effortlessly to the lead and Cayer nabbed second from McKinstry, who had a lapped car in his way. Rose went to fourth as Jackson again left the field rapidly falling behind him.

Cayer and McKinstry battled for second but Cayer shut the door. On lap 70, McKinstry tried again and edged into the lead. Jackson was a straightaway ahead with McKinstry and Cayer followed by Rose and Dwayne Dorr with a big gap back to Tim Higginbotham of North Dighton.

With two laps to go, tour officials announced that Jackson would be black-flagged for the earlier detection of the tire softener, changing the complexion of the race. As the move was announced, the crowd began to voice its displeasure with the decision.

McKinstry, Cayer, Rose, Dorr and Randy Churchill, Jr. of Oakdale, CT, were the next five finishers, making McKinstry the winner. A sea of displeasure was voiced throughout the victory lap and winners’ interview by crowds around the oval.

Stacey Krewko took advantage of lapped traffic and a timely caution to surge into the lead late in a wild powder-puff derby event at the Kraze’s Speed Equipment Racing Against Cancer event Saturday evening. Krewko and Lisa Butler had overhauled leader Michelle Heath in lapped traffic late in the event, and Butler successfully threaded through the mass amid a series of spinning vehicles.

When the field was called back to the previous lap, Krewko was placed in the lead with Heath and Butler among the lapped traffic.

On the restart, Krewko was able to run to the lead with Heath and Butler forced to pursue through the crowd of lapped cars. Both pursuers emerged to give chase as the final laps were circled and too far behind to overtake the speeding Krewko who sped home to the checkered flag.

MODIFIED SHOW DOWN AT SEEKONK’S RACING AGAINST BREAST CANCER

Modified Racing Series reigning champion, and current point’s leader Jon McKennedy, has filed his Super Modified entry for this Saturday’s Racing Against Breast Cancer, at Seekonk Speedway. Driving the # 79 Dunigan Super Modified, Jon will return to ISMA, after a two year absence, where he was the 2005 Rookie of the Year. McKennedy will return to the track that he first competed at in a Super Modified. “Seekonk is a great race track and I always enjoy racing there. This should be a lot of fun and it supports a great cause”, said Jon from his home in Chelmsford, Ma. McKennedy’s 2010 Modified Racing Series credentials include two victories; one each at Lee USA Speedway and The Waterford Speedbowl. He enjoys a 17 point lead with three races too go. Jon will be joined by the Whelan Modified Series current point’s leader Bobby Santos, III, of Franklin, Ma, driving the Clyde Booth # 61 Super Modified. Bobby’s 2010 Whelan Modified season has three wins; one each at Stafford Springs, Thompson, and Martinsville, Virginia. For the first time since June 25, 2005, the fastest short track cars in the world are set to invade The Action Track of the East. On Saturday, October 2, the ISMA Supers will compete in a 100 lap event at Seekonk Speedway.

Kraze Korlacki Speed Equipment, located in Case Avenue in Seekonk has stepped up to the plate, and put together a schedule of events, in a Race Against Breast Cancer. October has been named Breast Cancer Awareness Month, and Gary Sagar wanted to do his part in helping create awareness.

Former NASCAR Camping World Truck Champion, Johnny Benson has been signed to drive one of Brad Lichty’s cars for this event, marking the first time that Benson has been at the famous 1/3 mile oval. “I have never seen Seekonk Speedway, but I am aware of its rich racing history. Many of the ISMA teams tell me it is one of their favorite tracks. I am excited about competing at the famed “Cement Palace”, which should be a lot of fun while supporting a great cause in the fight against Breast Cancer”, said Benson from his race shop in Charlotte.

Former Seekonk winners include Liquid Lou Cicconi, Bentley Warren, Russ Wood, Rick Wentworth and 3-time winner, Chris Perley. Once added to the ISMA schedule, this became a “Look Forward To” by many of the ISMA competitors. Turing laps in the 11.0 second range, they have competed with the NEMA Midgets as speed record holders at the famed 1/3 mile oval. Unofficially, Jen Chesbro holds the record, at 10.893. This was reached during an open practice session back in 2003.

One of the events on the docket is the Powder Puff Enduro. What better way to honor women who survive this disease, than to have an event featuring ladies behind the wheel. It’s just another way to show support and help put the word out. In fact, once word had spread about this event, there was a call from the Chicago IL. area, with a young lady who wanted to show her support. Krysten Knievel has pledged her support for this event, and will be coming out to compete in the Enduro race. This is my first attempt at competing in any type of auto racing which should be a lot of fun while supporting a cause which has affected many people I know”, said Krysten by telephone from Chicago. In addition to competing in the powder-puff race, Krysten will also be singing the National Anthem during opening ceremonies. Kristen’s first experiences singing the National Anthem began at a young age singing at opening ceremonies for her daredevil father Kaptain Robbie Knievel. An original “Evel Knievel” custom chopper ’ will be on display during the event.

The Small Block Supermodifieds will also be on hand for a 35 lap main event. This is the first time these cars will compete south of NH. Regularly competing at the Lee USA Speedway, this is a super opportunity for the division to gain a larger fan base, and keep to the Super theme of the evening. The main difference between the 350 Supers and the ISMA cars are the engines and tires. They run a small block engine with a carburetor, vs. the big block fuel injected monsters of the ISMA Supers. They also run smaller tires than their cousins.

The New England Mini Stock Tour will make their first appearance at Seekonk, in a 75 lap Championship event. They have welcomed the competitors of Thompson Speedway’s Mini Stock class to compete, in a 4 cylinder event for the ages. They will crown their 2010 champion on this night. If enough cars warrant, there will be a non-qualifiers race to cap off the night.

In addition to the racing, there will be other activities available for the fans. Jackie, the Pink Fire Truck from the Coventry Central Firefighters Union will be on hand to help support the event, which is rumored to also act as a pace vehicle for the night. There will be helicopter rides for the folks that want to get a look at South Eastern Massachusetts from a birds’ eye view. John Ferreira of J & J Materials will be piloting from 2 – 4:30pm, for $30.00 per person. All proceeds will be donated to the Making Strides against Breast Cancer fund. Inflicting Ink Traveling Tattoo will have their 78 ½ foot mobile tattoo studio stationed inside the gates of Seekonk Speedway on Saturday, October 2nd from 2-6pm. Inflicting Ink will not be tattooing during the event but they have designed special breast cancer t-shirts where $3.00 from every t-shirt sale will benefit Making Strides Against Breast Cancer. An autograph session for all competitors will be part of the pre-race festivities as well. Gates open at 2pm; with the qualifying starting at 5pm. General Admission is $25.00 per adult, with $5.00 of each adult ticket going to Making Strides, a Breast Cancer support organization. Cat Country 98.1 will also be on hand to play your favorite Country Music.

Rick Martin picks up his fifth title, his first in the Sport Trucks to go along with his four in the Pro Stocks. Fred Astle makes it three in a row, and five total in the Pro Stocks, trying two records. Ryan Vanasse goes back to back in the Late Models. Steve Axon picks up his first Street Stock title. While Rick Martin won the Sport Truck drivers title, Jeff McCure won the owners' championship.

Fred Astle is the second driver with 3 consecutive Pro Stock titles, tying Norm Holden who did it in 1983, 84 and 85. He is also the second driver with 5 Pro Stock titles, joing Vinny Annarummo in that column.

Ryan Vanasse is the latest driver to win back to back Late Model championships. Doing both while also competing with the Pro Stocks as well.

Rick Martin picked up five wins on his way to his first Sport Truck title. This gives him a total of 5 at Seekonk. He also has 4 Pro Stock Championships on his resume. While Rick was the driver champion, he lost out on the owners portion of the title by 2 points. Jeff McCure, owner of the #46 driven by Dylan Estrella, won the owners title. The truck was driven by Dick Houlihan for one race while Dylan was absent. This is why the difference. Dylan finished second in the Sport Truck standings.

Steve Axon has been a consistent top competitor in the ultra competitive Street Stock ranks. His two wins helped him pick up his first Street Stock title in a tight battle.

Flanagan, Ivory, Donovan, Dion, and Maher pick up Fast Friday wins.

Warwick Whizz Ed Flanagan, Jr. held off Fall River’s John Robidoux at the finish line for his second win of the season in Pure Stocks. Robidoux has been trying to catch Flanagan, who holds fifth place in the division, where Robidoux stands sixth. Lakeville’s Jamie Burch roared in behind the leaders with all top 3 cars finishing on the same second. Mark Boisvert of Uxbridge and Griswold, CT’s Steve Larose rounded out the top 5. Flanagan had started sixth on the field, while Robidoux had to work his way up from seventeenth.

Swansea’s Mark Miranda started on the pole and outran Westporter Jeremy Lambert at the outset. Lambert and Kent Hopkins of Taunton got loose in the first turn, but came out in second and third behind Miranda. Robidoux, meanwhile, spent his first lap negotiating his way up from eighteenth to twelfth in that first, single circuit.

Into lap 2, Miranda held a 4 car lead over the field with Lambert and Hopkins trailing, followed by Burch, Flanagan, Dirk Eykelhoff of Oakdale CT. and Fairhavenite John Frias.

By lap 7, Flanagan had moved up to third, behind Miranda and Lambert. Miranda continued to move away from the rest of the field, holding an 8-car advantage by lap 10. Flanagan was all over Lambert’s rear bumper.

North Dighton driver Chris Lima and Tim Demarderosian of Bristol got together in turn 2, bringing out the caution. Both drove away from the spin, but the field came back together, pulling Miranda back to the pack. On the restart, Miranda and Lambert battled door-to-door briefly, but Lambert went back to the front. Flanagan then got under Lambert and secured second and two laps later, on the 17^th circuit, edged by Miranda for the lead. Robidoux had caught the leaders and passed Lambert into second and got briefly into Flanagan’s side. But the latter made a good save and continued at the front.

Flanagan forged a 4-car lead over Robidoux, Miranda, Burch and Lambert.

Lap 14 saw Lambert and Warwick’s Vinnie Pangelinan get into each other in turn for, creating a great deal of smoke and bringing out the yellow flag.

Flanagan lined up on the pole with Robidoux on his shoulder. Miranda and Burch made up the second row, with Swansea’s Bill Chouinard and Larose behind them. Division leader Nick Uhrig of Warwick was lurking just outside the top 10 in the eleventh spot, but had been finding tough going.

Flanagan nailed the lead again with Robidoux on his bumper but a turn one mass crash involved Kent Hopkins, Demarderosian, Dough Benoit, Dirk Eykelhoff and Chris Lima.

After an extensive cleanup, the field set up for the second restart on the lap. Flanagan edged Robidoux through turns 1 and 2, and then took the lead at the stripe. On the next lap, Burch was trying to work under Robidoux for second with Larose and Boisvert trailing. Behind them, Earl Curtin and Miranda were door-to-door as were Uhrig and Chouinard.

Into lap 23, with two to go, Flanagan led Robidoux and Burch. Into the penultimate circuit, Robidoux was working hard on Flanagan. A tap in turn 3 of the final circuit loosened Flanagan but he held it straight and thundered down the finishing straight to the victory by ¾ of a car over Robidoux.

Curtin, of West Warwick was sixth, followed by Miranda, Uhrig, and Chouinard. Frias rounded out the top 10.

Chris Ivory, on his first attempt among Seekonk’s Sport Four competitors, scored a decisive win in a growing field of competitors. The Waterford visitor claimed the lead going into lap 5 and was unassailable for the remainder of the race.

Cranston driver Robert Henry started on the pole with Vincent Arregado on his shoulder. Henry nabbed the lead on the second turn but Arregado got sideways in turn three and Warwick’s Ken Silva got into his side as a field of cars piled in.

The restart had Henry on the pole again with Coventry driver Taylor Therrien on his shoulder. Arthur Phillips was low in the second row and Ivory sat the outside, after avoiding the pileup.

Henry went ahead at the restart, but Therrien jumped to the front. Ivory came around into second and began to chase her down on lap 4. Ivory was sticking low and went under Therrien into the lad at the stripe on the next circuit. They led Arthur Phillips, Silva, and last week’s winner, Ed Gould of Warwick in Lap 7. On lap 9, Ivory had already increased his lead to 5 cars, and there was another 8 lengths between second and third.
By lap 13, Ivory was beginning to lap the field and had a comfortable 10-car lead over Therrien. It was another 3 cars back to Phillips. Another circuit gave Ivory a ¼-lap lead. But Therrien got into Arregado as she attempted to go under as she was lapping him, sending her up into the turn two wall on her drivers’ side. She was able to restart the car and drive it to the pits.

On the restart, Ivory was away like a rocket. Gould came around Phillips for second as Phillips got high and to the outside, allowing David Westgate, Jr, to move into third.

Ivory led by four cars in lap 17 and continued to pull away as the field became a pace line. He crossed the stripe at the finish ahead of Gould by 4 lengths. Westgate finished third, just ahead of Silva. Phillips rounded out the top 5. Bickford finished sixth, followed by Henry, Therrien and Arregado.

Westgate’s finish edges him two points closer to Silva in the championship points, where they stand 1-2. However, the lead stands in the area of 20 points, making the last Fast Friday competition a mountainous climb for Westgate to overtake Silva.

Kaitlyn Donovan led all but the first three of 25 laps in the SYRA 750 feature race, en route to tightening the contest between her and the division leader, David Hutchins, Jr. of Somerset. The Waterford driver started the outside pole against Holliston’s Nate Bubello, who (like Donovan) was looking for a first win on the season. He finished seven second back as Donovan built a half-track lead in the closing laps. Last week’s winner, Adam Swift of Fairhaven, claimed third. Division leader Hutchins suffered bearing problems and retired after 4 laps, in fourth place, while Plymouth’s Ashley Kuhn was sidelined after just three circuits.

At the outset, Bubello ran to the front as Donovan fell back. Swift got loose in turn 4. Bubello led the field into lap 2 over Donovan, Hutchins, Swift and Kuhn. On the second circuit, Hutchins car suddenly cut to the right in turn 3 and came to a stop in 4. He was able to get moving again and went around the oval to turn 2, where he stopped with smoke trailing from his right rear. He took the car off the track, came back out and stalled again in turn 4 and returned to the pits.

Bubello and Donovan faced off again and Bubello grabbed the lead with Donovan falling back in turn 2. Swift went under Bubello for the lead on lap 3, but spun between the third and fourth turns in front of Kuhn, who caught him on the driver’s door, and brought out a red flag and the ambulance. The EMT’s were waved off after a check of Swift by track stewards and both cars went to the pits.

Swift returned for the restart, but Kuhn’s night was ended. Donovan, Bubello and Swift lined up for the restart and Donovan came quickly off the pole to the lead, but the starter called a false start, bringing the field back. Hutchins returned to the track. On the second attempt, Donovan went to the lead again over Bubello. Swift and Hutchins followed. But Hutchins’ car smoked through turn two on the lap and then again on the following circuit. He retired from the race after four laps were complete, but the extra lap had moved him one lap ahead of Kuhn for race positioning.

The lap 5 restart saw Donovan go into the lead over Bubello again. Swift came alongside Bubello and the two began to dice over second spot, exchanging the lead several times over the next few laps. By lap 9, Donovan was nursing a straightaway lead.

Bubello assumed the second spot for good on lap 17 and by lap 19, Donovan was nearly a half lap ahead and still increasing the distance with each lap.

The final 5 laps were a parade to the finish with Donovan coming home to the checkered flag for the first time in the season.

Taunton driver Branden Dion brought his SYRA 600 car home four and a half seconds ahead of his nearest competitor for a convincing Fast Fridays victory in the late season and his second win on the season. Chase Belcher of West Wareham, who led off from the pole was runnerup.

Division leader Nicholas Lascuola lost the nose of his car in an early-race crash. He was able to return to the racing, but was severely hampered by the damage and was lapped twice as the racing unwound. The Brockton native finished the race in tenth position.

Belcher went to the lead at the start with outside polesitter Curtis Rolando of Newport on his tail. But Tyler Boudreau spun in turn two, collecting Waterford’s Shelby Donovan and Portsmouth’s Kara Carpenter. Carpenter retired to the pits and was done for the evening. Boudreau was able to continue and Donovan, after a push start, rejoined the field.

Again on the restart, Belcher was on the pole. But Jason Enos of Assonet had taken over the outside. Rolando started low on the second row with Tylar Nailor of Marston Mills on his shoulder. Dion and Providence’s Willy Sanchez were row three.

On the restart, Donovan and Lascuola collided between turns 1 and 2, and all the body metal on Lascuola’s nose was shorn off, leaving roll cage and underbody. The crash was severe enough to bring out a red flag and the ambulance for a check on the drivers. Lascuola’s car was taken back to the pit area and returned without the nose for the restart.

Again, Belcher went to the front on the green, this time battling with Dion, who got a nose past at the line. Donovan spun but was able to keep going, allowing the race to continue. By lap 5, Dion was showing a long lead and Donovan had been lapped. Dion was being pursued by Sanchez, Belcher and Rolando. By lap 7, Enos was battling Rolando for fourth.

David Lougee, Jr. spun on the front stretch, coming to rest in the infield in front of the starter. Dion again took the lead on the lap 6 restart and was not headed again. Belcher, Enos and Rolando pursued. The field stayed in an extended pace line with no positions changed.

On the final lap, however, Rolando and Sanchez were able to pass Enos into third and fourth, relegating Enos to fifth.

Louie Maher topped the field of V6 Mini Modifieds for a close win over Chris Kuebler in a shortened field of 5 competitors. Maher had started scratch on the field.

Eric Vilandre started at the pole with Wayne Brooks on the outside of the front row. Kuebler and Keith Caruso were the second rank, with Maher behind them.

Kuebler came on quickly at the starting line and ran around Vilandre and Brooks into the lead as the green flag fell on the field. Maher made the big leap from fifth to second on the start and Caruso followed him into third.

Three laps in, Maher attempted to go low under Kuebler and they ran nerf bar-to-nerf bar with Caruso giving chase. Vilandre and Brooks trailed the field distantly.

Maher took over the lead with Caruso attempting to pass Kuebler on the high side. There was another wheel-to-wheel duel between them before Kuebler edged back into second. He then put himself on Maher’s rear bumper. The lead trio had a 7 car lead on Brooks and Vilandre.

Maher began to encounter lapped traffic on lap 10 and into lap 11. Kuebler was still pestering his rear bumper and on lap 12, he was trying again to get underneath for the lead. Maher held him off for a lap and a half, running high, and edged out to a lead.

Kuebler began a tactic of turning down on the straights to get under Maher, but the latter continued to hold him off. A sudden dash at the finish line had Kuebler almost through to the win, but Maher held on for the victory by a fender. Caruso came around for the third spot.

Sculy, Martin, DeGasparre, & NewComb win the battle. Astle, Vanasse, Martin & Axon win the wars.

Westport’s Radical Rick Martin had an evening for himself, Saturday, coming on strong in his number 14 pickup to take it all. He won both heat and feature and made his commanding divisional lead stick for the championship over North Attleboro’s Dylan Estrella. In fact, winning the heat race, in which Estrella finished sixth, gave him enough points to haul down the championship before starting his motor for the feature race.

Into the feature, Martin started fifth on the field and within 5 laps was at the front and stayed there for the remaining 20 laps. Dan Leach, from North Dighton, gave Martin a good chase after Martin took the lead from him, all the way to the checkers, but Martin was not to be denied. Mike Cavallaro pulled a big third on the field, followed by Ed Gannon, Lenny guy and Estrella. Ted Berube, Michael Ronhock, Jariah Roderick and Ronny Cornell rounded out the top ten.

Seekonk’s Billy Clarke led from the pole through the first lap before Leach got underneath and into the lead from his spot low on the second row. Martin gunned through right behind Leach and Clarke was stuck on the outside and a parade was marching by beneath him. Estrella and Cornell got by while Gannon and Cavallaro were door-to-door behind them.

Quincy’s Michelle Dumas looped on lap four in the fourth turn, bringing out a caution which restarted with Leach on the pole and Martin on his shoulder. Leach was quick at the strip, gaining a nose lead, but Martin battled back and edged ahead, taking the lead to himself coming out of the fourth turn. Another lap and Barry Shaw was around in turn 4 with Bob Andreozzi spinning to avoid.

Martin had the pole with Leach on his shoulder for the restart. Estrella was immediately behind Martin with Fall Riverite Cornell on his shoulder. Gannon (also from Fall River) and Seekonk Cavallaro were row 3. As Martin edged out on the restart, Cavallaro suddenly went around Cornell, putting the second row 3 wide: Cornell was in a sandwich between Estrella on his low side and Cavallaro. Cornell fell back; Cavallaro passed Estrella into third by a nose.

Into lap 10, Martin led Leach, Cavallaro, Estrella, Gannon and Berube. Behind them, Guy and Ronhock were dicing for position. Guy finally made his way clear into seventh. Cavallaro went around to begin battling Leach for second. Behind them, Estrella and Gannon were door-to-door with Cornell in hot pursuit. By lap 20, the race had shaken out to Martin, Leach, Cavallaro, Gannon, Estrella and Cornell.

On the next lap, Cornell began to try around Estrella with Guy bothering him from behind. Martin was walking away with a 6-car lead. Leach, Cavallaro and Gannon followed and Guy was studying Estrella’s rear bumper.

Martin flashed under the checkers 1.293 seconds ahead of Leach, followed by Cavallaro and Gannon. Guy made a dash on the final straight to the strip and nipped Estrella at the line, by .068 of a second.

Paul Newcomb from Plymouth, MA, grabbed his first Street Stock win in the 25-lap feature. Attleboro driver Steve Axon iced the lead he had taken from Ryan Lineham a week earlier with a fifth place finish, giving him the championship in the division. Scott Serydynski, from West Greenwich, finished a spot ahead of Axon, but could not overcome Axon’s 15 point lead going into the evening. Lineham, from Coventry, was .462 second behind Newcomb, but couldn’t gain enough points over Axon to reclaim the points lead.

Newcomb started behind polesitter Patrick Delaney of Fall River. Delaney jumped out ahead of outside pole Gerard Berthelette of North Smithfield, and Delaney followed him through. Fifth place starter Rey Lovelace of Cranston also went under Berthelette before the latter could settle into the low groove, ahead of Johnston’s Crystal Serydynski.

On the third lap, Craig Pianka went around between turns one and two and spun into the infield. Newcomb had pushed his nose past Delaney, and was rewarded the pole on the restart with Delaney on the high side. Lovelace and Berthelette were the second row.

Newcomb went to the lead and Lovelace got under Delaney into second as the green fell. Serydynski and Michael Lema followed through. By lap six, Newcomb held the lead over Lovelace and Serydynski had moved into third. Berthelette held fourth with Lema Behind him and Scott Serydynski had moved into sixth. Delaney, experiencing mechanical problems, retired to the pits. However, Lineham, who had started eighth before slipping back to 10^th early on, was beginning to march forward and was in sixth.

At lap 10, Newcomb continued to lead Lovelace, Crystal Serydynski, Lema, Scott Serydynski and Lineham. Berthelette, Mike Mitchell and Ken Kohler followed. By lap 15, Newcomb had an 8-car lead over Lovelace, who in turn had Scott Serydynski all over his rear bumper. Lineham, Lema and Crystal Serydynski trailed. Caution followed, with Walter Carpenter’s car dying as he tried to nurse it out the pit exit.

Newcomb had many problems on the lap 15 restart: Lovelace on his shoulder, Serydynski behind him, and Lineham on the outside. Crystal followed her uncle and Lema was behind Lineham. Berthelette was low in the next row, but Axon was beginning to be felt and had the outside. It was a hungry wolf pack that charged out on Newcomb’s heels, and he did well to outrun them. Scott was able to get under Lovelace and into second. Lineham shortly followed to third, leaving Lovelace in fourth

Lap 17 saw Dick Cavallaro’s car die at the stripe, bringing out another caution. He drove it to the pits after getting it started. Now Scott was on Newcomb’s shoulder and Lineham was behind him. Lovelace and Lema were row two and Crystal shared row 3 with Axon. Newcomb had a nose on Scott as they crossed the stripe and Lineham on his bumper. Lema took fourth from Lovelace.

Into lap 20, Newcomb was nursing his lead over Scott, Lineham and Lema. Axon and Mitchell had edged past Lovelace who had Berthelette and Crystal on his bumper. Lineham and Lema squeezed past Scott over the next two laps.

The top 5 finishers had been established by lap 22: Newcomb, Lineham, Lema, Scott Serydynski and Axon. Mitchell, last season’s champion, Lovelace and Crystal followed.

At the end, the top six crossed as above. Crystal Serydynski edged Lovelace for seventh.

Berthelette and Rob Murray rounded out the top 10.

Pawtucket’s Gerry DeGasparre, Jr., won his third feature of the season, giving the four-time late model champ a lift in an up-and-down season while Ryan Vanasse of Warwick was propelled by his dominant lead in the division to the championship despite a twelfth place finish. That makes it two crowns in a row for Vanasse.

DeGasparre took control with six of the thirty laps remaining, moving up cautiously from his tenth starting position. Four drivers shared the lead, with Bob Pelland III holding the edge at 12 laps. Kevin Folan started at the front and held two laps before Pelland took over, then two laps at the midpoint of the race. Colbey Fournier led 8 laps before he yielded to DeGasparre. Pelland finished behind the winner, followed by Tyler Thompson, Jimmy Rosenfield and Dennis Stange. Fournier finished sixth.

Folan, of Attleboro, led off from the pole with Pelland on his right hand. At the green, Folan nabbed the lead, but two laps in, Robert Hussey from Wellfleet and Bridgewater driver Jimmy Rosenfield got into each other on the back stretch and spun to the infield.

On the restart, Pelland jumped to a lead, but went early and the start was called back. On the next attempt, Pelland grabbed and held on to the lead as Dennis Stange moved outside Folan. The Athol driver got loose and fell back, leaving Folan in second. The field began to string out.

Lap 7 saw Pelland leading Folan, Stange, Fournier, Somerset driver Kyle Casper and Mat Breault of Acushnet. DeGasparre was seventh and coming forward with Vanasse on his bumper. Rosenfield got together with Hussey in lap 9, setting a lap 4 spin and bringing out the caution.

Pelland and Folan led it off with Stange and Fournier at their backs. They ran door-to-door with Pelland taking the lead in turn 4. Stange got under Folan into second. Fournier suddenly lost speed and in the scramble, Rosenfield and DeGasparre got together up toward the turn 3 wall. Rosenfield pulled away, but DeGasparre was stuck in the turn.

This brought up a lap 10 restart. Stange, from the outside pole, nosed ahead of Pelland, winding it up on the outside, but Pelland put on a surge to get the lead back in turn 4. The start was disallowed, and called back for another restart. This time, the leaders staged a door-to-door battle with Pelland taking an edge at the stripe, then closing the door in turn four of lap 12. At midlap, Fall River’s John Paiva looped but was able to keep going without caution.

Pelland was holding a 1-car lead over Stange when he got sideways in turn 4. Stange bounced off his driver’s side and then Breault, Vanasse, and Casper piled in. Casper came out the worst with his nose crumpled back. Vanasse had a tire down and both went to the pits for emergency repair. Stange, Breault, Pelland and Mike Cavallaro, returning from the pits for an unrelated problem, lined up at the tail end. Vanasse and Casper remained in the pits.

Folan was on the pole again, with Fournier outside. Tyler Thompson was low in the second row and DeGasparre, having moved back to the front, was on the high side. Hussey and Rosenfield made up the third row.

Folan nabbed the lead at the green and Fournier settled in behind him. Thompson and DeGasparre diced it up for third position with Hussey in fifth, followed by Rosenfield. But Folan got sideways but a tap from Fournier, passing under, straightened the car out while Fournier went to the lead. Caution came out again on lap 19, as Rosenfield went around at the stripe.

Fournier had Thompson on his outside with DeGasparre and Hussey behind him. Breault and Folan followed. The start was called back as Thompson was quick on the trigger. The lined up a second time and again it was called back for a bad start. Officials sent Thompson to the rear for jumping the restart twice, which began a loud protest, including a crewmember climbing the fence behind the starter’s stand to argue with the starters.

Now DeGasparre was starting alongside Fournier and he edged ahead on the green, but Folan spun in turn four, again negating the lap. On the fourth restart, Fournier and DeGasparre went at it, door-to-door, but Kyle DeSouza went around bringing out a 5^th restart on the lap.

Fournier nosed ahead of DeGasparre, and Hussey went in underneath at the same time Breault tried around the outside, creating a 3-wide. DeGasparre split the trio, going into second, leaving Hussey to Battle Breault.

DeGasparre began to hunt Fournier down and on lap 23; the latter drifted up the track and had to hold on. DeGasparre went into the lead, with Hussey, Breault and Pelland following. Fournier settled into fifth but couldn’t settle into the groove and Rosenfield and Thompson went underneath.

By the 27^th circuit, DeGasparre was leading Hussey, Breault, Pelland and Rosenfield. Breault tapped Hussey, and Hussey looped, sending him to the rear and officials determined that Breault should join him for the assist.

Three laps remaining, and it became a parade to the finish, with DeGasparre taking a 2.97 second lead over Pelland, Thompson, Rosenfield and Stange. Rounding out the top 10 were Stange, Fournier, DeSouza, Folan, Paiva and Hussey. Vanasse finished two laps down, due to repair in the pits after the lap 12 accident. Still, it was not enough to deny his second championship in as many seasons.

Tom Scully, Jr. won his first feature of the season in a tight duel with Rick Martin to end the Pro Stock division’s championship season. Meanwhile, Fred Astle started at the rear of the 23 car field after failing the ride height inspection after finishing fourth in his heat race. His fourth place finish right behind his closest competitor, David Darling, insured his fifth championship, tying him with perennial champ, Vinny Annarummo. It also gave him 3 in a row, which ties him for consecutive titles with Norm Holden.

Scully started fifth on the field, with Martin seventh. They worked their way through the field for 13 laps, while Kevin Casper, then Dick Houlihan led the race, and broke into first and second together on lap 14. Martin tailed Scully, looking for an opportunity to be the first driver in Seekonk history to win two features on the same night (he had already won the Sport Trucks division on the evening and claimed the division championship there.) But the wily Scully was not about to let his opportunity for a win on the season slip from his grasp. Darling, Astle and Houlihan finished out the top five.

Kevin Casper of Somerset led off at the pole with Gardner hot shoe Phil Meany on the outside. Jeramee Lillie and Houlihan made up the second row; Rob Murphy and Scully were row 3. They came away from the green flag in that order, with Martin chasing Scully. By lap five, Scully was past Murphy. On the next lap, Meany went around entering turn 2 and Lillie went to the pits. Ray Parent, back with a newly purchased car, had picked up Mike Brightman’s left front fender under his rear axle and couldn’t get it dislodged. He retired to the pits for assistance.

The lap 6 restart had Casper and Houly facing off with Scully and Murphy now on the second row. Martin was behind Scully, and Darling had come up to start sixth from his original slot in tenth place.

Houlihan edged up on Casper at the start, and then the two went door-to-door. Scully went underneath to make the front grid a 3-wide. Casper got crossed up and fell back while Houlihan went to the front, towing Scully along with Murphy and Martin in pursuit.

Mike Parks, visiting from Monadnock Speedway, and Ryan Vanasse got together out of turn 2 and went up to the backstretch wall for a hard hit. After an extended period, both went off on the hooks of wreckers. Lowell’s Bill Antonellis, another visitor readying himself for the Venditti Memorial Race in October was off on the eighth lap. At this point, Darling, in pursuit of the championship, had moved up to seventh. Astle, driving very aggressively, had forged his way to tenth, three cars back.

Houlihan was on the pole for the lap 8 restart, with Scully on his shoulder. Casper and Martin were behind them with Murphy and Jake Vanada in the third grid. As the field queued up for the restart, smoke began to issue from under Antonellis’ hood and he stopped at the pit entrance for firemen to extinguish a small fire under the hood. He then retired to the pits.

On the restart, Lillie spun in turn two, bringing the field back for another go at the green. The second try got the field moving and Houly and Scully went at it door-to-door. Houlihan took an edge in turn 3 and Scully got loose. Houlihan took the lead with Scully and Martin on his tail.

Scully got his nose underneath and the two were again side-by-side. In the pack, Astle was dueling with Dean Pettey, who was back at The Konk after a long absence. Scully was into the lead on lap 14. At the same time, Darling was working around Casper into fifth. Astle claimed 8^th spot on lap 16. Into lap 20, Scully led Martin, followed by Houlihan, Darling, Casper and Vanada. Mike Brightman was on the move up from a 16^th place start and into seventh behind Vanada. Behind him, Astle was dueling Pettey for position.

Petty dived under Brightman and Astle went high, to make a 3-wide. Pettey backed out behind Brightman while Astle went forward into sixth behind Vanada. Into lap 26, the field behind Scully was Rick Martin, Darling, Houlihan, Vanada and Astle. On the 32^nd circuit, Astle went to the outside on Vanada and had the lead by the time they hit the stripe. Going into lap 35, Pettey spun on the backstretch, bringing out the caution.

Scully edged out on Martin on the restart, and Darling dived underneath to try to take second. Astle was working underneath Houlihan. Paul Reichert looped on the backstretch in lap 38, bringing out another caution, and a restart with three laps to the checkers.

Scully and Martin were still the front row; now Astle joined Darling in the second echelon. Houlihan and Brightman were followed by Ken Spencer and Vanada.

Scully held on to the lead with Martin falling back by half a car. Darling held on underneath Martin with Astle and Houlihan behind. The final laps unwound with the top 5 holding position all the way to the flag and Scully had his win on the season. Scully, Martin, Darling and Astle all finished on the same second, the pack was that close together. Spencer, Ray Parent, Mike Brightman, Vanada and Rob Murphy rounded out the top 10.

Mike Ronhock picks up first Truck win. DeMoura tops Street Stocks. Astle makes it 4 in a row and DeGasparre comes back to victory.

Fred Astle seemingly can’t be stopped this late in the season. Saturday, he hauled down his fourth consecutive win and fifth overall. And a fifth place finish by his nearest competitor, Dave Darling, eased pressure on Astle for season’s end championship points with but one race remaining in the season.

Six drivers held the lead through the race with Ryan Vanasse holding an edge in laps led at 16. Astle took over on Lap 29, after a bump from Rick Martin sent Darling into a spin. Astle led the remaining laps of the 40-circuit race with a hungry Jake Vanada pestering him to the finish line. Vanada finished seconds, with Tom Scully, Jr., Rob Murphy and Darling filling out the top five.

Bridgewater’s John Dabrowski started the pole and went to the lead, but outside polesitter Phil Meany fought it out through the first circuit and edged to the front. He took over the lead on lap 2 with Jeramee Lillie on his tail. Dabrowski experienced problems and began going backwards through the pack. By lap 5, Meany held the lead over Lillie, rick martin, Ryan Vanasse and Dick Houlihan.

Lap 7 saw Bobby Tripp go around off turn 4, bringing out a restart. Meany and Lillie were the front of the grid with Martin and Vanasse behind, followed by Houlihan and Kevin Casper. Off the start, Lillie began edging ahead and shot the door as they went into lap 8. But Rob Murphy was around off turn 4 and into the infield for another caution. The lap seven restart saw Lillie on the pole with Meany on his shoulder. Vanasse and Martin started behind them.

Vanasse went through to the lead on the start and Meany looped on the next lap in turn two, collecting a number of cars. The next green saw Vanasse and Lillie door to door for a lap before Vanasse went to the lead again and Kevin Casper went underneath into second as Lillie got hung outside.

Back in the pack, Astle and Darling were dicing it up, after starting twelfth and eleventh, respectively. By lap 10, Darling held sixth with Astle on his tail. They traded places on lap 11 and then Astle went through to fourth spot and Darling sixth with Lillie holding the interim spot.

Vanasse continued to hold the lead, chased by Casper. Into lap 13, Vanasse led Casper, Martin, Astle, Darling, Vanada, Lillie and Scully in a pace line. Darling went under Astle into fourth. Martin, running third, took second from Casper on lap 16, and then Darling moved past. Two laps later, Astle had gotten by. Vanasse was showing a 7-car lead over Martin when Scully got into the back of Lillie and Lillie spun, bringing out the caution.

The restart had Martin on Vanasse’s shoulder with Astle and Darling behind them. Casper and Vanada were the third row. Martin was trying to work Vanasse’s outside on the restart until Tripp was around in turn on, collecting Meany.

Martin now had the pole with Vanasse on his shoulder. Darling and Astle were behind them. Vanasse went to the front on two consecutive restarts, only to be called back for jumping ahead too early. The third start had Martin leaping to the lead and Darling getting underneath Vanasse. Astle followed on Darling’s tail. Though hung on the outside, Vanasse wouldn’t give up and battled Astle, but began to fall back.

Lap 23 saw Vanasse outside Casper, and contact was made with Casper’s right front into Vanasse’s left rear. They separated and retired to the pits under caution to get new rubber.

The new starting grid had Martin on the pole with Darling on his outside. Astle and Vanada came next, followed by Scully and Kenny Spencer. Again, Darling came out very fast into a big lead, but the start was called back again. Second time, Martin went to the lead and Astle went under Darling to battle for the second spot.

But Casper got into Lillie, sending him around and Ron Smith got involved.

Again, Martin and Darling took aim from the front row. It was an even start with Darling working hard on the outside. He went in front at the stripe but Martin made contact in turn two and Darling spun, bringing yet another caution. Darling went to the rear as an accident car and Martin for the assist on Darling’s spin. Both drivers had to be warned to the rear and went grudgingly. This placed Astle on the pole for the lap 29 restart with Vanada on the outside. Scully and Spencer made up the second row with Rob Murphy and Mike Brightman behind them.

Astle made for the front and had the door closed by turn3. Darling restarted in twelfth, but began to determinedly move toward the front with Martin on his tail. He had made it to sixth place by lap 35.

Vanada hounded Astle the final 10 laps but could not get past the rear bumper. Scully maintained third place with Murphy and Brightman in tow. With three to go, Darling made his way past Brightman for fifth.

At the finish, it was Astle with a .773 second lead over Vanada to take the Don Dionne Memorial Trophy. The award named after one of the original Pro Stock drivers at Seekonk Speedway, winner of the first Pro Stock championship and two of the first three. Dionne had died in the past year.

Four time late model champ Gerry DeGasparre, Jr. hauled down his second victory of the season with a hard-fought charge to the checkers over Tyler Thompson. The Pawtucket ace got past Thompson, of Somerset, with 10 laps remaining in the 30-lap challenge. Rocket Ryan Vanasse kept his hold on the points lead with a solid third place finish. The Warwick pilot’s lead over Somerset’s Kyle Casper extended when the latter finished six spots further back, in ninth place. DeGasparre’s win edged him closer to Casper for the runnerup spot in the overall points chase.

Matt Breault, of Acushnet, Mass, nailed down the fourth spot, and Jimmy Rosenfield, returning after an extended absence, rounded out the top five.

Bob Pelland III led off from the pole with Dennis Stange on the outside. Thompson started behind Pelland with Bob Hussey on his shoulder. Acushnet’s Kyle DeSouza and DeGasparre made up the third row.

Stange’s car got squirrelly at the green, and Pelland charged into the lead. Thompson inserted his nose under Stange, pinning the Athol driver on the outside. Hussey and DeSouza dueled for third, while Casper moved up from his seventh starting slot to enter combat with DeGasparre. Rosenfield and Breault were battling behind them.

Seven laps in, Pelland led Thompson, and Stange, with a four car gap back to Casper and DeGasparre and another gap to the rest of the field, led by Hussey and Breault. But John Paiva went around on lap 10, bringing out the caution.

Pelland had Thompson on his shoulder for the restart; Stange and Casper were behind them, followed by DeGasparre and Hussey. DeSouza was in and out of the pits during the caution. Thompson pushed ahead on the restart and Pelland worked to hold him off through the lap, but Thompson got a full car’s lead into turn one of the eleventh lap and shut the door. At the same time, Casper moved past Stange into fourth. Breault got past Hussey into sixth, and Rosenfield spring boarded from tenth into seventh. As they crossed into lap 12, Thompson led, with Pelland on his bumper, Casper, Stange, DeGasparre, Breault and Rosenfield. Three laps later, Thompson had extended his lead over Pelland to 3 cars.

Pelland and the pursuing Casper made contact coming out of turn 4 on the nineteenth circuit and Pelland got up into the frontstretch wall, scrubbing his right side most of its length. Casper managed to bring it to a stop in turn two with a flat, probably cut down in the contact. The crash ended Pelland’s night on lap 19; Casper pitted for new rubber and returned at the rear of the pack.

The restart had Thompson with DeGasparre on his outside at the front with Breault and Rosenfield behind them. Stange and Vanasse were the third row. Thompson and DeGasparre went door-to-door for a lap, until Thompson got loose and DeGasparre charged into the lead. Entering the 22nd circuit, DeGasparre led Thompson, Breault, Vanasse, Rosenfield and Stange. Vanasse attempted the pass on Breault on the next go-around although Breault made it difficult to get by.

By lap 25, with just 5 to go, DeGasparre had a 6 car lead over Thompson, while Breault and Vanasse were still dueling over third. Vanasse was high and clear into third on lap 28 and shut the door on Breault into 29.

DeGasparre won going away, with a 1.151 second edge over Thompson. Vanasse was .407 behind Thompson.

Cape Codder Michael Ronhock and Fall River’s Ron Cornell logged 25 out of 25 of the lead laps in the Sport Trucks race Saturday night, but the Mashpee Mauler led the latter half of the race through the checkers to garner his first-ever victory on the asphalt oval. The win tightens Ronhock up, closing on fourth place-holder, New Bedford’s Lenny Guy, and just a handful of points between them indicate a tight run for the spot in next week’s season-ender. Ronhock had come into the fray in fifth place, but was the only member of the elite five who did not have a win on the season. Twenty-five laps later, another member had joined the exclusive club.

Seekonk’s Michael Cavallaro nearly had his fifth win of the season, but Ronhock held him off in a wild charge at the finish line for a .040 second victory. Ed Gannon from Fall River nabbed a close third, while Somersetter Ted B Berube and Dan Leach from North Dighton filled out the top 5.

Cornell shot off the pole, taking the lead over outside polesitter, Jariah Roderick. After Portsmouth, Rhode Islander Rob Andreozzi tried under Roderick to nab second, and was held off, the East Taunton driver settled in behind Cornell and Andreozzi filled in the third slot. But entering lap 3, Quincy driver Michelle Dumas went around in turn four, bringing out the caution.

Cornell and Roderick lined up again, and Cornell went to the front with Andreozzi making the underneath move as before. Dane Saritelli move up under Roderick and they began a duel for third, while behind them Ted Berube and Rick Martin were jousting for fifth.

As the field headed for lap 4, Andreozzi got into the infield in turn 4 and looped his truck with his wheels spinning and sent up a huge cloud of dust that obscured vision in the turn. Out of the cloud came Dumas and Guy, already thrown together by the low visibility. Guy was able to continue on the track, albeit with the underside of his bed bent up to the frame. Dumas ended up in the infield on the front stretch with a cold motor. She had to be lifted from the field on the hook, finishing 21 laps down.

Ronhock had taken the two laps to move from fifth to second and started on Cornell’s shoulder after a long pause for track crew to sweep the silt from the racing surface in the turn. Cornell pulled the lead at the green and Ronhock pursued, with Roderick on his tail. Saritelli, Berube, Martin, Gannon and Dan Leach poured in behind them. Again, Berube and Martin were contesting position as were Gannon and Leach behind them. Martin slipped back a bit, and Gannon moved up under him, but he used a burst of speed to come even with Berube again.

By lap 8, Saritelli was up alongside Roderick, and Martin was behind him.

Andreozzi was off the track into the dirt once again on lap 11, this time in turn two, bringing out the caution and another restart. Cornell and Ronhock faced off again, with Saritelli and Roderick behind. Martin and Berube were paired, as were Gannon and Leach.

Cornell and Ronhock battled off the line; Saritelli moved to third while Martin and Roderick contested for fourth. Ronhock got by into the lead on the second turn of lap 13 with Saritelli, Martin, Gannon, Guy and Roderick lined up behind.

Cavallaro had been stuck among the rear of the pack until lap 16. He passed Leach, who had fallen back after the early contests into ninth, then edged past Estrella and Berube into 7th on lap 20. By this time, Ronhock was enjoying an 8-car lead over Cornell and Saritelli. Gannon had third, and Martin and Guy were duking it out for fourth. Cavallaro tried a three-wide move around them and succeeded in getting by Martin on the next lap. Next time around he got past guy and Saritelli into third.

Ronhock had a 2.3 second lead into lap 23. Saritelli and Guy were contesting when Saritelli went around, collecting Guy. Saritelli was able to continue, but the caution had already flown, setting up for a restart on lap 23, which would be a green-white-checkered finish. Ronhock and Cornell again made up the front row with Gannon and the surging Cavallaro behind them. Berube and Leach pursued from the third row.

Ronhock forged to the lead with Gannon getting under Cornell into second. Cavallaro was three wide again and coming on. Gannon bumped Ronhock from behind, but a great save kept the five truck going straight. Cavallaro came around the three-wide, taking second from Gannon in the last lap, then ran up alongside Ronhock in turn three of the white flag lap. It was a hard run to the finish, with Cavallaro gaining the front hubcap on Ronhock at the line, unable to overtake completely. Ronhock held on through the grit for the .040 second win.

Chris DeMoura out of North Dighton, Mass, ran from his outside pole starting position into the lead on lap 5, then spent 17 laps holding of a hungry Michael Lema for his first Street Stock victory of the season. DeMoura had to hold Lema off through a host of caution restarts before hanging tough for Lema’s final surge on the last straight to the finish. Sparky Arsenault and Paul Newcomb both finished within the same second as the leader, creating a very close finish. Steve Axon’s fifth place appears to have propelled him into the division lead over Ryan Lineham.

Lineham’s championship came into jeopardy in the second heat for the Streeters. A lap 8 tangle with Gerard Berthelette and Rey Negley sent him nose-first into the turn 3 wall, next to the entrance ramp from the pits, ending the night for his car. Lineham got his nose into Berthelette’s rear quarter on the backstretch and the two slowed. Negley had his nose into Lineham’s rear bumper and was pushing down the straight. When Berthelette broke away, Lineham’s nose went up the track and the push from behind sent him straight into the wall for a very hard hit. The crash brought out a red flag and the ambulance. After a few minutes, Lineham was able to walk to the ambulance under his own power for the ride back to the pits. His car was wreckered from the track. He was able to return for the feature after renumbering teammate Walter Carpenter’s 09 car to his 19 to continue to pursue the championship.

Fall Riverite Patrick Delaney started the pole with DeMoura on his shoulder. At the green, Lema shot up to make a 3-wide sandwich at the front, but backed out, settling into third behind Delaney and DeMoura, though he was contested by Tyler Jarvenpaa. The Taunton hot shoe would be a factor throughout the contest.

Five laps in, DeMoura had worked his way past Delaney. Lema held third, and Sparky Arsenault had move into fourth from his starting spot in seventh. Paul Newcomb followed with Scott Serydynski on his tail. Lineham was trying to get up from the back of the pack. Through his wheel slots, his front brake rotors could be seen glowing cherry red from the hard usage that they were being subjected to.

Chuck Taylor, Jr. looped his car between turns one and two on the twelfth circuit, bringing out a caution. DeMoura and Lema faced off at the front with Arsenault and Newcomb in the second row. Delaney and Axon followed. Ken Bamford and Brian Spillane were the fourth row. Serydynski had slipped back to ninth, just behind Brian Spillane. It took three tries to get the restart, with Jarvenpaa going around in turn two and Taylor in turn one on the first attempt. Ken Kohler rotated in the starting box on the second attempt.

Finally, a good start had DeMoura and Lema battling while behind them, Arsenault and Newcomb contested third; Beaulieu and Axon for fifth and Bamford and Spillane behind them. When things finally resolved, DeMoura was again leading Lema on the backstretch in lap 14. Next lap saw Jarvenpaa around in turn two.

On the restart, Rey Lovelace looped before the starters’ box. Officials penalized Negley for the assist and both Negley and Lovelace protested to the turn 3 trackside officials. When the protest went unresolved, the pair retired to the pits.

DeMoura went back to the lead again, with Arsenault trying under Lema for second. Newcomb and Beaulieu worked each other for fourth. By lap 20, the field had lined out with DeMoura leading Lema, followed by Arsenault, Newcomb and Axon fighting it out with Beaulieu.

Lap 22 saw Lema trying under DeMoura again, but had the door shut on him. Ever persistent, Lema made a final dash at the line but was nipped by the leader, DeMoura coming in ahead by .160 seconds. Arsenault took third, .465 back and Newcomb fourth at .891; the top four all finishing within the same second. Fifth went to Axon.

Lineham, in the unfamiliar car, managed a 17th place finish, allowing Axon to ease by in the points spread for yearend championships. Final competition for the point’s championships will be held next week.

Review of Saturdays actions have drawn the follow penalties from the General rules section 8.0

#80 Rob Murphy:
Rough riding/Excessive contact: Repositioning to the rear of the field.
Intentional contact after race completion: One race probation.

#27 Mike Brightman:
Intentional contact after race completion: One race probation.
Unsportsmanlike conduct/Endangering safety of others: $ 100 fine & DQ from race event.

Changes will be made to the September 4th race points and adjustments to purses paid that night to reflect these penalties.

Mark Boisvert picks up first Pure Stock win in front of packed house.

For several years, Mark Boisvert has been making the trip to Seekonk Speedway to compete in the Pure Stock division. Each time he’s headed home empty handed, falling short of victory lane. That all changes on Sunday, September 5th, in front of a packed stadium. Mark started 23rd in the 25 car field, and made quick work of the heavy traffic in front of him. With timely cautions at laps 5, 10 and 15, he was able to close up through the field. On the lap fifteenth restart, he moved to the inside, and went from fifth to first in a lap. From there, it was on a cruise to victory, as he had over an 8/10 lead by the time the checkered flag flew.

Melissa Charette and Kent Hopkins brought the field down to the green. Hopkins led lap one, but former champion Bill Chouinard moved up from his fifth place start to take over the lead. Chouinard held the lead through three restarts, keeping Hopkins, Doug Benoit and Randy Moretti behind him before Boisvert slid by for the lead on the 16th circuit.

Randy Moretti ran second for much of the middle portion of the race until he spun out from contact with points leader Nick Uhrig on lap 15. Uhrig was penalized for the contact, and sent to the rear of the field.

Over the final ten laps, Ed Flanagan Jr moved into third, but was too far behind to make any moves. Amy Arsenault finished fourth with John Frias rounding out the top five. Earl Curtin III, Jamie Salley, Doug Benoit, Jamie Burch and Vinny Pangelinan were sixth through tenth.

Astle, Vanasse, Mitchell & Cavallaro win ARC. Tyler Anderson picks up 1st Pro4 Mod win.

Flyin’ Freddy Astle took down his fourth feature win of the season, second in as many weeks, and kept his edge on the championship even over runnerup David Darling. It wasn’t as easy as it sounds for the Westport driver. The previous week saw him lead the final 30 laps to the checkers. This time around, he wasn’t in the lead until the thirty-fifth circuit. And his prime antagonist, Darling, had loomed in his windshield since the twelfth go-around. And the Rehoboth driver hung on his tail, challenging through the final laps.
Jake Vanada suffered a big disappointment as he had led from lap 8 to lap 34, only to be passed by Astle and Darling in the closing revolutions. The speed merchant from Berkley hung on for third place at the checkers.
The points race between Astle and Darling should remain with the 21-point spread at which they stood coming into the night’s confrontation. Darling had finished two up on Astle in their heat race, won by West Warwick’s Jeramee Lillie, earning two points; Astle got that pair back by finishing one-up on Darling.
Somerset’s Kevin Casper and Saunderstown, Rhode Islander Tom Scully, Jr. rounded out the top 5.
Casper led off from the pole, and outrushed Lillie to the front. Dick Houlihan came from the third starting spot underneath Lillie for second and began to duel Casper. Lillie settled into third for two laps before Vanada, moving up from his fifth place starting slot, grabbed third.
Back in the pack, Darling and Astle were already battling: Darling had started outside the fourth row and Astle was right behind him in row five. Astle edged ahead into ninth place on the third lap, and they began a slow climb through the field.
Mike Brightman squeezed under Lillie before the latter could finally gain the low groove on lap 7. But Kenny Spencer slowed to avoid and Scully was on his bumper. The two made contact and spun, bringing out a caution. Casper now had Houlihan beside him on the front, Vanada and Lillie backed them up. Mike Brightman, Astle, Darling and Rob Murphy made a tough combo restarting behind them.
Casper was auguring for the lead with Houlihan giving him a hard time when Vanada powered up to make it three wide at the front, coming out of turn 2. Houlihan eased back, out of the hotbox, and Vanada successfully challenged for the lead. Brightman passed Houlihan for third and Darling followed through into fourth. Astle and Murphy were chasing Houlihan followed by Lillie, Scully and Rick Martin.
By lap ten, Vanada had a one-car lead over Casper and it was 5 cars back to Darling, who had passed Brightman. Astle was on Darling’s tail and Brightman followed. The race had become a long pace line at this time. Lap 17 saw Vanada pulling away from Casper, and Darling moving in behind the latter with Astle for a shadow. On the next lap, Murphy got into Brightman and loosened him up, but an incredible save kept the 27 of Brightman going straight.
Vanada held a 6 car lead over Casper and Darling was trying to work his way underneath for second, finally getting by on lap 24, Astle riding through on his tail.
Paul Reichert and Phil Meany got together, spun, straightened out and appeared ready to continue, but the caution had already come out. Now, Vanada was restarting with Darling on his shoulder and Astle behind him. Casper was high on the second row, and Brightman and Scully backed them up.
Vanada went to the lead on the backstretch of the restart and a quick lead line developed with Vanada, Darling and Astle winding the track just inches apart. Vanada started getting a bit wide on lap 29, with Darling edging up. A caution came out for debris in turn three. The same trio set up for the restart with Casper high on the second row, Brightman, Scully, Murphy and Lillie followed.
Again Vanada went to the front. Darling tried to work underneath, but was held off and Astle then tried to get around him into second. Casper got back into third, passing Brightman, then Scully worked past into fourth. Murphy, coming up next, got together with Brightman, and Mike slid up the track and the field surged by under him.
Lap 32 saw Reichert spin at the stripe to set the yellow flying. Again Vanada surged to the front, but this time, Astle followed and got under Darling. On the next circuit, Fred went to the bottom and he and Vanada went door-to-door with Darling on their tails. Astle emerged into the lead on lap 35 and Darling moved Vanada back to third on the next trip around.
The final four laps saw Astle trying to shake Darling and Vanada, at best keeping it straight and heading for the checkers. Darling made every attempt he could to pass, but was held off. At the finish it was Astle, Darling, Vanada and Casper, all in the same second. Scully, Murphy, Houlihan and Spencer, followed by Lillie and John Dabrowski made up the top 10.

New Hampshire hot shoe Tyler Anderson pulled off a win from the pole in the Pro-four modified race in the Kraze’s Special 25-lapper. Anderson had to survive 7 restarts in the race which saw only 10 of the 18 starters finish the race.
First warning of the race’s nature was on the initial lap, when 3 cars ended up in a pile between turns 3 and 4. Cape Codder Dan Meservey, Jr., George Sherman of Framingham and Somerset’s Billy Joerres had to be separated, with Meservey and Joerres unable to finish. A lap had not been completed, so the original grid, minus the pitted duo, lined up to begin the race once again. But not before a second attempt was called back for a false start.
Anderson beat Whitinsville, MA driver Stan Metz off the line. Plymouth’s Cory Cleary ducked under Metz for second and Dave Richardi got door-to-door with Metz for third. With Cleary beginning to reel Anderson in, lap 6 saw Metz rotate in turn 3 and collect Henry Sirignano. Phil Lausier had to spin to miss the pile and the 3 lay stalled in the curve. Wreckers had to be called to separate Metz and Sirignano and they became the next casualties of the race.
Anderson faced off with Cleary on the restart. Cleary made a good lunge at the green flag, but Anderson went to the lead down the backstretch. Jeff Zuidema’s car began trailing sparks and he retired to the pits. A lap 8 spin in the first turn by Brian Vincent stopped the race again, and Zuidema returned, just one lap down. Vincent turned pit side and the field was relined.
Now, Anderson had Adam Norton on his shoulder with Easton Massachusetts’ Dave Richardi and Cleary behind. They ran under the green side-by-side, but Anderson was into the lead on turn 4. Richardi went under Norton to begin a battle for second, while Cleary worked below Norton, who wrestled with him for the spot but finally had to relinquish. Cleary quickly started working under Richardi on lap 13.
Dave Bedard spun between turns 3 and 4 and Lausier again spun to miss him, coming to a stop.
Anderson and Cleary faced off on the lap 13 restart and Anderson was at the front by the second turn. Richardi came quickly up behind Anderson and bumped his rear. He wiggled and slowed, but kept the lead. Cleary made for the pits on lap 15.Entering lap 18, Anderson was pursued by Richardi, Frank Perry, Norton and Sherman. But Bedard spun in turn 4. At the same time, Lausier was around in turn two and yet another caution was called.
Anderson won the restart over Richardi, but Lausier was again around in turn two. He was pushed to the pits. Ten cars were now left with 8 on the lead lap.
Anderson again went to the lead on the backstretch with Perry giving chase, followed by Dave Richardi and Norton, who was trying to get under Richardi. By lap 20, Anderson was moving easily at the front, but Rob Richardi, Jr. had been moving smoothly up through the field and now was past Norton into third and troubling his brother, Dave for second. Perry followed Norton.
Anderson came home for his first win as a Pro Four rookie. The Richardi's traded places, with Rob edging Dave for second. Norton captured fourth and Sherman was fifth. He was followed by Perry, Bedard, Jeff Zuidema (a lap down) as were Vincent and Charette to round out the top 10.
Following his lap with the checkered flag, Anderson made a rookie move directly to victory lane, leaving the announcer and trophy handlers flat-footed at the Start-Finish line.

Ryan Vanasse of Warwick, RI, hauled down his fourth win of the season and further tightened his grasp on the lead in the Late Models division with a going-away win. Only four drivers held the lead in the 30-lap race, and Vanasse led the most; the final 13. Acushnet driver Matt Breault finished second, followed by Tyler Thompson of Somerset, Kyle Casper of Somerset and Fairhaven’s Kyle DeSouza.
Bob Hussey led the first two laps off his pole position. On the second, Colbey Fournier and Bob Pelland III got together in turn one with Pelland ending up sideways on the track and a big pileup sending him, Kyle Casper, Gerry DeGasparre, Jr., and last week’s winner Randy Burr to the pits. DeGasparre and Burr suffered excess damage and were unable to return.
Cape Codder Hussey and Thompson faced off for the lap one restart. Thompson went to the lead on the backstretch. Matt Breault went around on the second lap, but continued and began challenging Thompson by the fourth circuit. He tried underneath on the sixth and seventh laps, then started outside on lap 8. By lap 10 Breault was edging a nose past.
On lap 11, Pelland slowed to a stop on the backstretch, and drove pit side after the caution flew. Officials penalized him a lap for causing a false caution. He did not return to racing.
Breault had Thompson on his shoulder for the lap ten restart, with Vanasse down low in the second row; Dennis Stange held the outside. DeSouza and Mike Cavallaro followed. Breault won the race for the lead and Vanasse ran in under Thompson, taking second on the backstretch on lap 11.
By lap 15, Breault was still leading with Vanasse chasing. Thompson, Stange, DeSouza, Casper and Cavallaro paraded behind them. Fournier’s spin out of turn four just as Vanasse was beginning to overtake Breault, brought out another yellow flag. Fournier went to the pits along with Kevin Folan and Cavallaro. They were all back for the lap 16 restart.
Breault and Vanasse waged withering warfare on the restart, but on lap 17, Breault’s car wiggled on the track coming out of turn four, allowing Vanasse to move to the lead, which he would not relinquish. Breault had a new problem, with Thompson, Casper and DeSouza on his tail.
Cavallaro’s right rear tire went down on him on lap 27, and he spun on the frontstretch. The tire could be seen deflating as the car came off the fourth turn.
Breault was too quick on the trigger on the restart, and they were called back to go it again.
This time, Vanasse grabbed the lead and Breault settled in to be hounded by Thompson and Casper. Stange and DeSouza diced it up for fifth spot.
Three more quick laps and Vanasse had locked down his fourth win of the season, breaking the three-win tie he had with Casper, his closest competition in the championship points race. The 38 point spread between them will extend a bit with Casper taking down fourth place to Vanasse’s win.

Mike Mitchell worked his way gradually from ninth on the starting grid to first under the checkered flag as the tight Street Stock division race saw competitors at the top coming closer together.
The Cumberland, RI driver saw his score closing up on leader Ryan Lineham of Coventry, who was held to an 11th place finish.
Scott Serydynski’s second place also closed his gap to the leader as did Steve Axon’s ninth. Axon, of Attleboro, held second to Lineham, and though the points were few between them, Axon gained.
With two races remaining in the season’s schedule, THE BALL is in everybody’s corner.
Brian Spillane, who finished third on the evening, had led from lap 2 to lap 18. The Attleboro driver has had ignition problems spoil his previous two races. This night, he raced to the finish for a solid third.
Spillane took the lead from Joe Kohler in the first lap, then survived challenges from the field and a host of cautions. Kohler had gone ahead at the green, but Woonsocket’s Gerard Berthelette worked under Kohler and Spillane took advantage to claim the lead. Paul Newcomb began working on Kohler on the high side with Berthelette on their tails. By lap 5, they’d settled in: Spillane, Kohler, Newcomb, Berthelette and Michael Lema.
On the next lap, Sparky Arsenault, Lineham and Serydynski were running in a group when Arsenault lost a tire and looped. The others scrambled to avoid him and Lineham took his car directly to the pits.
Newcomb hounded Spillane from lap 7 all the way to lap18, when Newcomb looked underneath Spillane for the lead. They traded paint in turn 4 and Newcomb took the lead on lap 19, when debris in turn 2 caused a caution, a large piece of sheet metal. Tyler Jarvenpaa went to the pits, and when the sheet metal was lifted from the track, it was Jarvenpaa’s door, as determined by the number.
On the restart, Mitchell was in the second row, behind Newcomb and Spillane. Spillane got underneath Newcomb and had the lead back to himself on lap 22. Mitchell was working his way under Newcomb. Newcomb had a tire go down just as Mitchell started to get under Spillane.
Serydynski had quickly closed to third on lap 24, when Newcomb got underneath Spillane and they were side-by-side. Serydynski lost no time on the white flag lap making the lead a 3-wide and Spillane was stuck in the middle. His car bobbled slightly and fell back, leaving Serydynski and Mitchell trading paint from turn 4 all the way to the finish line. Mitchell squeaked out a .041 second lead over Serydynski, with Spillane being forced to settle4 for third. Ken Bamford and Rey Lovelace rounded out the top 5.

It took Seekonk’s Mike Cavallaro just 11 laps to go from his eleventh starting position to the lead, and from there, he was unassailable to the finish of the Kraze’s Special 30 lap extended Trucks feature. He wasn’t without drama, as Fall River’s fast Ed Gannon picked him up on lap 12, and chased him to lap 23, where Westporter Rick Martin stepped in to bother Cavallaro the rest of the way to the finish line. Martin and Gannon nabbed second and third, while Dylan Estrella and Lenny Guy rounded out the top 5.
Billy Clarke led from the pole and outran Michelle Dumas of Quincy for the lead. When Lenny Guy spun in turn two, the field was called back to restart the race. Clarke again grabbed the front with Dumas still fighting him. Gannon jumped into third from his second row, outside start. Mashpee driver Mike Ronhock went to fourth and, while he was doing it, bumped Gannon in turn three. Gannon spun to the infield.
Ron Cornell got by Dumas and set his sights on Clarke. But Rob Andreozzi got around on the frontstretch on lap 4. Clarke restarted with Cornell alongside. Cornell was trying to power by Clarke on the outside when Ronhock went high for a 3-wide. Dumas went around and collected Russ Borges, bringing out the caution. Ronhock received a trip to the rear for the contact.
Clarke grabbed the lead again, while Dan Leach got by Cornell. Ronhock spun in turn 2, but continued. Clarke got wide and Leach wasted no time getting underneath for the lead. Cavallaro had been working his way up from his starting position back in eleventh. He followed Leach through into second and Gannon charged in to capture third. Martin grabbed fourth as Clarke was falling back on the outside. Gannon and Martin then edged Leach out on the next lap and guy passed on lap 13. By the fifteenth circuit, Cavallaro led Gannon in second. Martin was th8ird, followed by Guy, Estrella and Leach.
Cavallaro now was leading a parade around the oval, which continued until Dane Saritelli spun in turn four. His motor kept running, and he tried to get on with the race, but the caution was called. Cavallaro and Gannon battled on the restart, with Martin on Cavallaro’s tail. Estrella and Guy were at it for fourth.
Gannon got stuck to the outside with Martin on Cavallaro’s rear bumper and had to settle in for third. Ted Berube did a solo spin on lap 24, but continued.
With three laps remaining, Martin was all over Cavallaro’s tailgate and pestered him all the way to the finish line. Cavallaro edged him out by .25 seconds at the line. Gannon came across third. Estrella edged Guy for fourth and Lenny settled in ahead of Leach, Clarke, Ronhock, Andreozzi and Saritelli for the top 10.
Berube finished 13th and Martin’s second place adds more points to his first place lead over Berube, with just two races remaining on the regular season.

Jeff Abold repeats in Boston Louie. Nocella wins NEMA Lites. Astle, Burr, Guy & Bruneau alco victors.

Jeff Abold of Penniville, NY, started 10th on the NEMA midget field, too 10 laps to get to the front, then waltzed the rest of the way home in the 29 lap Boston Louie Memorial race for NEMA midgets. The win, in a Seymour Enterprises car made a sweep of the Boston Louie Memorial for the companies that Boston had founded. Anthony Nocella had won the NEMA Lites division also in a Seymour car.
Anthony Marvuglio started on the pole and saw outside pole Jim Miller grab a quick lead, but John Zych and Barry Kittredge tangled at the start. Kittredge was stopped in turn 2, facing the wrong direction. As Zych drove his car to the pits, a push start got Kittredge underway again. He returned to the pack.
On the lap 0 restart, Marvuglio took the lead Miller, who grabbed second, followed by Chris Deritis, Adam Cantor, Bridgewater’s Russ Stoehr, BJ MacDonald and Plymouth driver Randy Cabral.
With Marvuglio at the front, Miller, Deritis, Cabral, and Russ Stoehr were shadowed by a charging Abold who was moving his way up. Stoehr was his next victim as Abold went underneath into fifth place on lap 4. Cabral yielded to Abold on the backstretch of lap 6, who then began working under Deritis for third.
But Deritis passed Jim Miller for second, with Abold following him through into third. On lap 9, he took second from Deritis and a lap later he was by Marvuglio for the lead. He would not relinquish that lead for the remaining 20 laps. Deritis slipped back to third, as Marvuglio filled the spot, but moved back up on lap 15. Cabral chased him through into third, relegating Marvuglio to fourth.
Cabral worked his way into second place on lap 21 with an outside pass of Deritis. Russ Stoehr and Aaron Wall gave chase. Cabral couldn’t find a way to overhaul the rocketing Abold, who now had a half straightaway lead. On lap 26, MacDonald slowed and took his car off the track and then Brian Cleveland took a turn 4 spin on lap 27, bringing out caution with three laps remaining.
The lap 26 restart was single file with Abold leading Cabral, Stoehr, Deritis, Wall and Greg Stoehr. Abold dropped the hammer early, coming into turn 4. Cabral made a Herculean effort to chase him down, but Abold slipped away and into Victory Lane.

Flyin’ Fred Astle was living like his nickname, Saturday night at Seekonk Speedway. The Pro Stock multi- champ from Westport (he holds three Seekonk Pro crowns) had stormed his way to the front of the Phil’s Propane 75-lap race by lap 10 and refused to relinquish the top spot all the way to the checkered flag. It was a new jewel in Astle’s crown, as he had not yet won a 75-lap race at the Cement Palace.
The win also granted him breathing room over his nemesis this season, David Darling of Rehoboth. The duo entered the evening just one point apart in the standings and had see-sawed the lead over the past few weeks. Astle held two victories while his antagonist had nabbed three. Darling’s eleventh place finish, exacerbated by losing a tire on-track due to body metal rubbing the right front, will allow Astle some breathing room with three races remaining, but not much.
E for Effort honors on the evening go to Berkley, MA hot shoe Jake Vanada who came up to seriously hound Astle throughout the latter stages of the event. In the pre-race qualifying heat, Jake had outrun Astle to the finish line, and that was strong in the fans’ minds as the feature began to unwind. Vanada, who has seen a win on the year, has suffered a yin-yang series of fortunes with mechanical problems on his Pro Stock. It was running like a clock on the evening and Vanada was taking full advantage of his fortune.
Rob Murphy nabbed third, which should ease him ahead of Mike Brightman in the standings. Brightman managed sixth and will see Murphy overcome the one point lead, causing them to exchange places in the standings. Ken Spencer and Tom Scully, Jr. nailed down fourth and fifth, and the points exchange will further tighten their competition.
John Dabrowski of West Bridgewater started on the pole with West Warwick’s Jeramee Lillie on his shoulder. After the first start was called back due to Lillie pulling a quick trigger at the line, Dabrowski went to the lead, entering the backstretch. Lillie was hung on the outside by a quick charge from Dick Houlihan. Lillie battled back alongside Dabrowski and they were door-to-door through lap 4.
With Lillie edging ahead in lap 5, Dabrowski, whose car had been wiggling on the track, lost traction and spun in front of the pack. A mad scramble to avoid his car ensued, but little damage was done as all managed to steer clear. Dabrowski went to the rear as an accident car. Track officials sent Scully back to join him for an assist on the spin.
Lillie inherited the pole and diced it up with Houlihan on the lap 5 restart. Lillie spun coming off turn 4, but regained control and continued. At about the same moment, Dabrowski spun at the rear and this brought out the caution flag. Lillie went quickly to the pits.
Astle had been moving up steadily from his twelfth spot; up to sixth on the lap 5 restart and now was fourth, on the outside of the second row. Houlihan had the pole with Brightman on his shoulder. Warwick’s Ryan Vanasse was low on the second row. Vanada was behind Vanasse and Westport’s Rick Martin tailed Astle. Houlihan nabbed the lead over Brightman, and Astle sought immediately to go around Brightman. Paul Reichert looped on the frontstretch of lap 8 with a locked up wheel that sent him to the pits.
The lap 8 restart saw Astle now on Houlihan’s outside for the front row of the restart. Brightman and Vanasse and Vanada and Spencer were the next two rows. Houlihan grabbed the lead but Astle powered past into turn 3 as the green again flew. Vanasse went after Brightman for third, but Brightman pulled ahead, leaving him on the outside with Vanada under him. Martin had powered up to study their bumpers. On lap 13, Darling had moved into eighth. Going into lap 15, Astle led Houlihan, Brightman, Vanada, Martin, Murphy, Vanada and Darling in that order.
Vanada spotted an opening underneath Brightman and went low, taking Martin with him. Brightman was hung outside and unable to get back down into the racing groove until 7 cars had reeled past him. On lap 24, he spun in turn four and went to the pits to make some adjustments to his handling.
Astle went to the lead over Houlihan on the restart, and Vanada got underneath and into second. Murphy tailed him to third and on lap 26, Vanada was chasing Astle. There were 51 laps remaining.
Martin went wide and slapped the outside wall on the backstretch, but continued. It was a question of what might have happened in that brush.
By lap 29, Astle held a 3 car lead. Vanada, Murphy, Spencer, Scully and Vanasse followed. Darling was holding seventh on the field and moving well.
Astle was unable to shake Vanada and the latter was unable to overtake as the laps wound into the 30’s. Murphy was 4 behind Jake with Spencer on his tail. This remained unchanged at the halfway point, lap 38, with Astle, Vanada, Murphy, Spencer, Scully, Darling and Vanasse. Lap 41 saw Vanada closing and lapped traffic lay ahead, which they encountered on lap 45. The pair slipped easily under Phil Meany and Dabrowski. Slower traffic was moving to the outside and the leaders continued to pour it on.
On the 49th circuit, Spencer took aim at Murphy, but the latter held him off. Now Vanada was inspecting Astle’s rear bumper and Darling was trying to get under Spencer. But on lap 59, clouds of smoke were issuing from under Darling’s car from body metal pressing against the front tire. With the smoke getting worse, Murphy began pulling away once more.
With 10 laps remaining, Astle had one of his better leads over Vanada, about 5 cars.
But on the sixty-fifth circuit, Darling’s tortured right front finally let go in turn 4. The driver did a masterful job to keep his car off the wall. He and Martin went immediately to the pits. Both returned for the restart at the rear of the field.
Astle and Vanada faced off on the front row with Murphy and Scully behind them. Third echelon belonged to Spencer and Vanasse. Brightman and Craig Weinstein were behind them. As the green dropped with 11 to go, Astle grabbed an edge, but Vanada battled through the lap until Astle took over at the stripe. Murphy took the opportunity to go underneath for second. Vanasse got sideways going into turn 4, but a bump from Weinstein straightened him out. The field scattered, leaving Lillie immobile in turn 4.
Astle and Vanada set up for another face-off, with Fred taking the lead and Jake settling in. Murphy, getting loose, settled into third. Spencer was working his way underneath Scully, with Houlihan and Brightman giving chase. By lap 68, Astle was nursing a half-car lead and Darling was chasing Brightman. By lap 71, Astle led by three car lengths.
Then, Somerset’s Steve Desmaris went around in turn 4 with damage to his car. He went to the pits for the evening, with 5 laps remaining.
Astle and Vanada hunkered down for the restart again. This time, Astle went to the lead. Opportunist Murphy stayed on his tail and tried to work under Vanada, sticking him on the outside. This freed Astle to run ahead while the battle for second raged. Spencer, Scully, Brightman and Darling followed.
Astle crossed the line unharried, but Murphy and Vanada dueled bitterly to the line. Vanada, on the outside, managed to hold off the determined Murphy by inches -- .031 seconds. Spencer and Scully filled out the top 5.

Once the traffic was sorted and the early red flag situation was cleared, Lenny Guy put his Sport Truck into the lead on lap two and did not relinquish his hold on first place in a race that ran green flag for 24 of 25 laps. Seekonk’s Mike Cavallaro jumped into second and spent 20 laps doing everything he could to make life miserable for the leader, but could not, in the end, make the pass into first. In addition to his trophy and checkered flag lap, he was issued a big hug by his wife. “You won and you got a huge hug,” noted track announcer Kevin Boucher. What do you think of that? “I got lucky,” beamed Guy.
Quincy’s Michelle Dumas led off from the pole with Bob Andreozzi of Portsmouth on the outside. At the dropping of the green, Andreozzi went to the lead, but Dane Saritelli came through from the second row as Dumas got sideways in front of him. They came together amid clouds of smoke, but with little damage. The field scattered and avoided more contact
Dumas, Andreozzi, and Jariah Roderick restarted from the rear. Saritelli gained the pole with Dan Leach on the outside. Ed Gannon and Guy made up the second row. On the restart, Saritelli looped it coming off turn 2, and divisional leader Rick Martin, trying to avoid, went hard against the backstretch wall, throwing a tire from the right rear, which sailed high into the air before bouncing into the infield. Roderick got into Saritelli hard and Dumas spun around the wreck, ending up sliding to the infield in turn three.
Martin limped his truck from the backstretch to turn three before he realized his tire was down. He stopped by the wall. A red flag was thrown as Martin was unable to respond immediately, having had his breath knocked out of him. He was given a trip to the ambulance for a check, but found in acceptable condition.
It took a long time to separate Roderick from Saritelli, and Roderick’s truck came away with no fenders, hood or front bumper. The crash ended the evening for Martin, Saritelli and Roderick. Ed Gannon went to the rear for the assist on the spin.
With one lap complete, the trucks were again lined up. Dan Leach of North Dighton held the pole with Guy on his shoulder. Mike Cavallaro and Mike Ronhock were behind them. Ron Cornell, Andreozzi, Jim Hawkins, Gannon, Dumas, Dylan Estrella, Ted Berube and Saritelli made up the field in that order for the restart.
Guy edged into the lead on the second turn and had a door on Leach by the third. Cavallaro pursued with Ronhock at his back. Cavallaro was under Leach into second in lap 4. Ronhock also got through and Leach settled in on his tailgate. Ten laps in, Guy was leading with Cavallaro pursuing. Leach, Ronhock, Estrella and Gannon making up a fast pursuit team.
At the halfway point, Cavallaro had begun to close on Guy and was knocking on his tailgate by lap 13. It was the pair working each other without assistance as the nearest pursuer – Leach – was 10 lengths back.
On lap 18, Gannon was on Ronhock’s bumper and auguring for an underneath move, making it good on turn 2.
Now, it was a 5-lap parade to the finish of the 25-lapper. Cavallaro had tried and continued to the stripe, but Guy held straight for his second win of the season. Cavallaro grabbed second, followed by Leach, Gannon, Ronhock, Dylan Estrella and Ted Berube.

Tiverton driver Scott Bruneau found himself in a pursuit position for most of the Street Stock feature before finding himself in the lead when Chris DeMoura’s car broke down on the 23rd of 25 laps. DeMoura, of North Dighton, had started in the fourth row behind polesitter Ken Kohler and began to wend his way toward the front as numerous cautions slowed the field and eliminated competitors. Thirteen of 24 starters eventually finished the race.
In the championship challenge, where Scott Serydynski had led Ryan Lineham by a single point, fate was not kind to the former, as Serydynski, of West Greenwich, lost a wheel during one of the on track incidents and was forced to retire with a DNF just 13 laps in. He finished in23rd, while Lineham, from Coventry, RI, picked up after early race incidents and finished a solid 6th.
DeMoura had gone to the front early and picked up Attleboro driver, Brian Spillane on his tail in the fourth circuit. A crash brought out caution on the fifth lap and DeMoura and Spillane made up the front row. Kohler and Bruneau were now behind them, with Kenny Bamford and Justin Travis making up the third row. DeMoura won the run to the lead and was holding off Spillane until a lap 9 caution for debris on the track. Bamford, by this time, had moved into third with Bruneau behind him. Tony Oliveira and Travis followed.
DeMoura and Spillane were door-to-door again. They made contact off turn 4 and DeMoura edged into the lead as Spillane went very wide in turn two. Bamford got under Spillane in a bid for second leading to a real battle between them. But Bamford suddenly slowed on the frontstretch in lap 14. Lineham went around trying to avoid and Bamford went to the infield grass, to be pushed to the pits. Lineham also went to the pits.
Spillane started outside DeMoura on the front again, with Bruneau and Steve Axon behind them. Travis held the fifth spot and Chris Beaulieu sixth. DeMoura again went t ahead when Spillane’s car suddenly slowed on the backstretch with mechanical problems. It was the second consecutive week for Spillane, who had been leading the previous event late in the race, only to lose his distributor. The sudden loss of speed sent cars careening into each other. It was at this point that Scott Serydynski lost his left rear wheel and had to retire. Spillane was also off the track. Crystal Serydynski had spun in turn 4 to avoid, but was able to continue, and Woonsocket’s Gerard Berthelette was immobile in turn 4.
Now DeMoura squared off with Bruneau for the restart. They went side-by side, but DeMoura had begun to show smoke from his right rear. During a lap 18 caution, he was called aside, checked and deemed fit to continue. By this time, Lineham had made his way up to 10th place.
The lap 18 restart was called for a single-file to move the race ahead. DeMoura won the drag race for the lead and Lineham, in the middle, began one of his high groove runs toward the front. But on lap 20, Scott Cestodio dropped to the infield and another caution ensued.
Again, the single file restart put DeMoura ahead of Bruneau, Tony Oliveira, Travis and Axon. DeMoura went to the lead once more, while Oliveira went high and wide, then slid back to fifth. On lap 23, DeMoura’s car suddenly broke down on the frontstretch, but he limped it off turn two into the infield to allow the race to continue, and Bruneau suddenly found himself with the lead, a lap-and-a-half from the finish. He outpaced Travis through the white flag lap and across the line with a 1/3-second lead. Axon, of Attleboro, followed for third, Beaulieu fourth, Tivertonian Rob Murray fifth, Lineham holding down sixth, Cumberland, Rhode Islander Mike Mitchell seventh, Bamford returning to come in eighth, Ray Negley ninth and Rey Lovelace rounding out the top 10.

Anthony Nocella of Woburn, MA, drove a Seymour Enterprises NEMA Lite midget to victory in the memorial race named for the Enterprises’ founder, Boston Louie Seymour. Nocella came on shortly into the race to use great speed and handling to run to a clear cut victory on the third of a mile oval. Andy Barrows of New Ipswich, NH, followed him across for a well-earned second. Plymouth’s Randy Cabral took third. Taunton driver Ed LeClerc, who has won earlier in NEMA Lite competition in Fast Fridays Competition at Seekonk placed fourth, Russ Wood, Jr. of Pelham, NH claimed fifth.
First lap of the race was marred by a red flag accident, between front row starters Kevin Park and Eric Cabral. They had run hard from the start, and coming off turn 4 on the initial lap, they touched wheels, often a formula for disaster in open wheel racing. Cabral’s number 36 car spun, bouncing him off the wall between the end of turn 4 and the starter’s platform. The dynamics of the wheel contact launched Park’s car into the air and then brought him down hard and propelled him into the wall and then back to mid-track. Three of the four wheels on the car were either wrenched away from their mounts or broken off completely The right front was torn off and embedded in the right side of the body; the left front was bent back towards the cockpit. Only the left rear wheel was still in position.
Park immediately unstrapped and ran to check on Cabral, as the red lights came on around the track.
Cabral’s vehicle was towed from the track on its wheels, but Park’s had to be slid onto the ramp truck for the trip back to the pits.
This placed Lanson Fornoro on the pole with Paul Bigelow on the outside. Andy Barrows and Russ Wood, Jr. lined up behind them with Paul Lugelle and Nocella in the third row.
Fornoro snapped to the lead out of turn 1 with Bigelow and Barrows in full pursuit. But 3 cars locked wheels in turn two after a lap had passed. Lugelle was among the trio, and pulled away, leaving a large puddle, probably alcohol fuel, and came all the way around to the start/finish then into the infield, where he began spilling another large puddle of the liquid, indicative of a broken fuel line.
Again they lined up with Fornoro and Bigelow on the front, followed by Barrows and Wood. Nocella was low on the third row with Jesse State to his outside. At the green, Fornoro again grabbed the lead. Nocella went under Barrows and Wood into third. On lap 4, he got under Bigelow in turn 2 for the runnerup spot. Nocella set his sights on Fornoro and was setting up for an underneath pass when Ryan Tidman had his motor die while trying to get into the infield from turn 2 and the caution came out.
The lap 5 restart had Nocella on Fornoro’s high side with Bigelow and Barrows in the second row. Wood and state were behind them. Fornoro broke into the lead with Nocella on his tail. The latter waited, made an outside move then dived underneath through the turn to turn the advantage on Fornoro. He began to accelerate away, leaving Barrows to chase Fornoro.
Five laps later, Nocella had built a straightaway lead over Fornoro, who had Barrows to contend with, and on lap 13, Barrows went for an underneath move to take second. By lap 15, he had secured second place.
Lapped traffic loomed for the leader on the 19th circuit, but it hardly seemed to slow his progress. Barrows was still a good distance behind, with Randy Cabral following and Jim Santamaria at his back. Fornoro was now fifth. Eddie LeClerc was moving up rapidly and now was sixth.
Santamaria did a solo pirouette on lap 25 in turn 4 and a pair of cars got tied together. Bethany Viets and Carl Medeiros were pushed to the infield, leaving 10 cars in the field which had started 18. Five laps remained.
Nocella led a single file restart with Barrows on his tail, followed by Randy Cabral, Santamaria, LeClerc, State, Wood and Fornoro. Nocella jumped hard on the restart; Barrows made an attempt to battle him, but Nocella moved quickly away. Cabral was attempting to pass on the high side. Barrows pulled away on lap 26 as LeClerc passed Santamaria for the fourth spot.
It was parade laps for the finishers through to the 29th and final lap.

Earl Curtin III and Christine Cavallaro pick up career firsts. Taylor Therrien and Dave Hutchins Jr repeat.

On Friday, August 27, Earl Curtin III used the high line to pick up his first career Pure Stock Victory. Earl started eleventh in the 23 car field, and was able to use the high and low lanes to find himself up front. Curtin crossed into the top five on lap eleven, and into second with six laps remaining. A timely caution for Earl came out on lap 20, when Melissa Charette lost what was an eighth place run. Bill Chouinard was leading the race, and did all he could to hold off the rookie, but was they races wheel to wheel over the last five laps, Curtin was just a touch stronger. As the duo battled off turn four, they both slid high, and Curtin touched the outside wall with his right rear bumper cover. But it was not enough to slow his momentum, and he went on to edge the former champion by .018 at the finish line.

Outside pole sitter Jeremy Lambert followed Melissa Charette for the first eight circuits, but moved out front on lap nine. The Westport native was looking for his first win before Chouinard snuck in and took over the lead on the twelfth circuit. Lambert was able to get back out front for the next few laps as they swapped the lead back and forth several times. A caution on lap 16 paired them back up, and Chouinard held off Lambert and led until the final three laps.

Melissa Charette led the first eight laps. The Taunton native tried to hang out up front, but slid back through the top ten. She was sitting eights when she spun on lap 20. She was able to work her way back to sixteenth at the final rundown.

Points leader Nick Uhrig got caught in traffic early, and was only able to fight his way into fifth at the end. Randy Moretti was the fast mover of the night. Randy started sixteenth, and by the completion of lap one, he sat seventh. He made his way up to third, and spent the final ten laps swapping that position with Lambert, edging him out at the checkers. The top five were Curtin, Chouinard, Moretti, Lambert and Uhrig.

Taylor Therrien spent her birthday behind the wheel of the Sport4, and celebrated all the way to Victory Lane. It was the third win of the season for the 17 year old. Taylor moved through the 9 car field quickly, taking the lead from Ed Gould on lap 7. Once out front, she never looked back, pulling away from Gould and the rest of the pack. Dave Westgate finished third with Ken Silva and Jason Kusman, who was making his Seekonk Speedway debut.

Second generation racer Christine Cavallaro grew up with Pro Stocks, Late Models, Sport Trucks and more in her garage at home, so it was only natural for the young lade to want to follow in her fathers’ footsteps. When you dad is Mike Cavallaro, 3 time Sport Truck Champion, it can be hard to fill those shoes. On Friday, 8/27, she was able to join the list of speedway winners.

Christine moved into the lead on lap five, and set sail from there. Once out front, she was able to hold off David Lougee, Curtis Rolando, Tyler Nailor and Nick Lascoula to hold on to her first victory. David Lougee of Taunton grabbed the lead at the drop of the green, but could not hold off the determined Cavallaro. David would fall to the bottom end of the top ten in the final rundown. Following Cavallaro across the stripe was points leader Nick Lascoula, Chase Belcher, Jason Enos and Willie Sanchez.

The SYRA 750 class has belonged, for the most part, to Dave Hutchins Jr, and this week was no exception. From his fourth place starting position, Lil Hutch moved into second by lap two, and put pressure on Waterford CT’s Kaitlyn Donovan. Kaitlyn set in the lead from the drop of the green, and her only challenge was from Hutch. The Westport native moved to the outside, and raced wheel to wheel with Donovan for several laps, swapping the lead back and forth. Lap nine saw him take the lead for the final time, and he led to the checkers. He was followed by Donovan, Adam Swift, Ashley Kuhn and Nate Bubello.
