There’s a lot of challenges shooting on location in an industrial environment, it’s hard on the gear and the many dangers can sometimes restrict movement but I really enjoy the problem solving. I try to speak to people to understand their job a little better and see what I think will make a picture. It’s then a matter of working around the issues in getting to the right spots, setting up lights if needed, avoiding the hazards and capturing the key moments.

I was really chuffed to be asked to create the imagery for the 2012 Guide Dogs Queensland Calendar. They do amazing work, the dogs are incredibly intelligent and super cute – I was up for the challenge. Thanks to the dedicated and skilled staff at GDQ – it was a really fun and rewarding project. Here are a few images from a recent assignment for advertising agency DMS Creative. They asked me to create a suite of images from the Toowoomba Carnival of Flowers. There was a lot to photograph, it’s a pretty awesome event. The work that goes into the carnival and to the gardens is mind boggling!

It was great to be asked back to cover the EKKA again this year. When I turned up for the first day of shooting I was confronted with some massive images I shot last year covering the fencing around the RNA Showgrounds renovations. Great to see such a big run!

Everyday my studio is somewhere different. On this occasion it was in a a cotton field as the sun was setting. I love assignments that give me a glimpse into another world.

Wallabies playmaker Quade Cooper photographed for the Sydney Morning Herald. I wanted to get something different, a quiet moment with a hint of the location. A busy boxing gym can be tricky especially with a low ceiling and fluros but I used a simple two light setup to give the image some mood. Quade was a good sport and really helpful.

I was asked to create a time lapse of  something quite cool recently. A group of creative people participated in a workshop to use Design Thinking to address some of the problems facing the homeless and disadvantaged. The design challenge was focused around new products, services, strategies, programs and projects for the 139 Club, a day shelter for the homeless in Brisbane. With so much going on in all directions it was pretty full on. Props to Fairweather Creative Culture – A really interesting day and good karma all round.

Very exciting project! We were asked to produce the images for the 2011 Concert Season Calendar of the Queensland Conservatorium. The brief was to express the feeling of music through our photography and with the help of many amazingly talented students we created the images below.  The creative freedom we were given was awesome and a big thanks to the Q Con for their trust. Also there are a couple of frames of the finished calendar designed by Liveworm Studio.

We thought stop motion was the best way to show off one of our promo packages and tell a story which is what we always try to do with our pictures. It took some time to shoot and an amazing amount of patience to move the elements in the frame a few millimeters and shoot another frame… and repeat….. 400 times!  It’s a good thing it only lasts 25 seconds.
