Dad Takes His Daughter to Church in a Morris Minor Convertible

Tony Garton hired our Morris Minor Conviertible to take his daughter to her wedding and then drove the happy couple on to their Reception after the ceremony. The wedding is in April although you would believe it was summer to look at the pictures. I think they had one of the few good weekends this Spring!

Thank you for making my daughters day so perfect we really had a fantastic time.

My Dream Jaguar MkII Arrives

I have wanted a MkII Jaguar for years; I guess that being brought up with Inspector Morse and Heartbeat, as well as memories of rich uncles driving them when I was a child, they sort of get into your blood.

Since I started my classic car hire business I have been on the look out for a good example and it is safe to say that they are very thin on the ground unless you are willing to pay silly money for them. It was Phillip, a good friend of ours who found this one advertised. Phillip knows his Jaguars having owned a MkI for many years, in fact, his Jaguar featured in Heartbeat a couple of times whe it was driven up from London by a couple of Gangsters no doubt intent on misdeeds!

This lovely car was owned by a chap in Macclesfield who has a fantastic collection of cars that he is thinning out a bit. She has wire wheels and is finished in quite a dark British Racing Green, which I am told may actually be Jaguar Racing Green - I'm sure someone out there can tell me :-)

She runs like a dream and has obviously been well maintained. Anyway, come and have a look at her and judge for yourself.

1969 Daimler V8-250

Our beautiful Daimler V8 is a variant of the MkII Jaguar. The bodywork is the same, but is fitted with a lovely 2.5litre V8 engine.

She is finished in classic Old English White with deep red leather interior and superb wlanut woodwork. A gorgeous car that is ideal for touring and perfect if you want to hire a self-drive car for your wedding.

Our Weekend was a Triumph

We took CCHY's Triumph TR6 out for a weekend break and drove across the North York Moors to Whitby. We had to have the hood up on the first day due to the typical British weather, which was a shame, but we enjoyed the drive nevertheless. The car is in fantastic condition and a real ‘driver’s’ car – it’s not like a modern vehicle, you have to put some work in to your driving, but it’s well worth the effort! We stayed at Sherwood Glen Guest House outside Whitby – a perfect place to stay as there is secluded parking which meant the car was totally safe. The guest house owners loved the car and came out to see it when they heard us approaching.

The sun came out on the second day and we had a fabulous time driving back across the moors with the top down, listening to the engine roar (she’s a noisy beast!). The car attracted many admiring glances at the country pub where we stopped for lunch, and we wished that it actually did belong to us instead of just being on loan…We can definitely recommend hiring a classic car from Classic Car Hire Yorkshire, and would love to do it again sometime.

A York breast cancer patient is organising a huge prize draw and grand charity ball to say “thank you” to the staff at York Hospital who have been helping her through her illness.

Angela Grinham, owner of The Cake Boutique (York), originally intended just to make a cake and raffle it in aid of the Macmillan Breast Cancer Nurses; but when her contacts in the wedding industry heard what she was doing many of them wanted to help too – with the result that she is now able to offer a prize consisting of a spectacular package of wedding services worth around ten thousand pounds!

The lucky winner will receive almost everything they need for a fabulous wedding day, including a dress, menswear, a car, photography, flowers, a cake, stationery, favours, hair and beauty services, plus help from a wedding planner to organise everything. Angela is also hoping that local companies will come forward to offer a honeymoon and rings. The prize can be used by those celebrating civil and vow renewal ceremonies as well as weddings.

Tickets for the draw cost £5 and are available from now until September, with all proceeds going directly to the Macmillan breast cancer care nurses in York. They can be bought online and at various wedding events over the next few months. The winner’s name will be drawn at a fabulous charity ball to be held at the Park Inn on Saturday 9th October.

The competition will be officially launched at a Wedding Showcase at the Park Inn in York on Sunday 7th March. The event, which runs from noon until 4 pm, will also feature performances by York dance school Dance Factory. Entry costs £2, which will be donated to the charity; or for a donation of £5 visitors will also receive a prize draw ticket.

Angela says “I had intended to make a small gesture myself to show my appreciation for the treatment I’d received at York Hospital and give something back. But when my friends in the wedding world found out about my little raffle, they were only too happy to offer their own contributions and things just snowballed! To do justice to the amazing prize and raise as much money as possible we then decided to run the draw over several months and top it off with a ball. It’s an amazing opportunity for any couple getting married in 2011”.

On a more serious note, Angela adds “As well as raising money for the Macmillan nurses I’d also love it if we could raise awareness of the great work the cancer care staff do at York Hospital, especially the fantastic specialist nurses. I really can’t emphasise how much they have helped me and so many other people. Being diagnosed with cancer is very scary, both for yourself and your family. You feel really vulnerable, but don’t always want to burden your loved ones with your concerns, so it was really comforting to know there was – and still is – somebody I can speak to at any time if I need to”.
