<p>And the list can go on.  Regardless of the reason most of us are looking for ways to improve our lives and be happier. However most of us don't get what we want because we don't know exactly what it is that we want.  Most of us fail because we never begin.  Most of us need to change the way we see ourselves.  Some of us just need a little boost of confidence.</p>
<p>A good self image is a constant and continuous journey.  All of us have quality personal assets.  We are just unsure of what they are so they need to be discovered. Some of them us are unaware of how to use them.  There are countless ways to achieve the discovery of those qualities.</p>
<p>Listening to audio messages, sometimes several times, is helpful and can prove to be quite educational.  If you do not reinforce the information you receive, the chances are likely that you will not act upon it. Remember intending to do something does not mean it will ever get done.  We must actively participate in the process of developing those qualities we have.</p>
<p>Another thing that can be done is to read books.  There are a large number of books on the market for self help and self improvement.  Personal development involves self growth as well.  There is one book in particular that can give you a mountain of insight and help you to find lessons to achieve the success you desire in your personal development. Debt induced stress is one of the most problematic plagues that weaken both the mind and body of those it affects. Managing a busy life, keeping a family together, dealing with inherent health problems all these are things that can become quite overwhelming. When we add the constant stress created by being in debt, the feeling that everything you own is in danger of being lost, anxiety, depression and chronic stress are often experienced. Credit cards are of course, a useful and benefic economical element, a tool that helps us make our lives easier and more convenient. But they do come with a price tag that is often neglected - the interest rates and the freedom to buy without any limits are often too tempting, and many people end up owing large amounts of money to their creditors.

Debt related stress and anxiety
<p>
The repeated notices, calls and visits from your creditors remind you just how stringent your problem really is. However, you can use anxiety in your favor, once you learn how to master it. Letting it dominate your every move and combining it with depression is the exact opposite of finding a solution to your financial difficulties. But stop for a second and examine your anxiety, try to see beyond the immediate effects it has on you. You will notice that anxiety and aggravated credit card debt related stress have an irrational side that is completely blown out of proportion by our own minds. Many self help techniques recommend escaping anxiety by transposing your mind into a different reality. From one perspective, this works, since it gives you the peace and quiet you need to gather your energies and channel them towards achieving your goal and paying off the debt. However, there are many who never want to return to their own reality and prefer to stay hidden in the imagined universe and this will soon turn into a completely detrimental factor in their lives.
<p>
Turning anxiety into an ally
<p>
The opposite method is to accept your fears and see them as a whole. Don't try to avoid the situation, don't shift blame on others. Rationalize the reality around you, see why your credit card problems escalated and brainstorm for ideas on how to solve them. If you run away, they will only grow stronger. Jot down a few ideas and consult with your friends or family, as well as with financial advisors. There are always solutions of getting out of credit card debt, but more than often you will have to invest some energy in finding the one that is perfect for your individual case. The moment when you feel your stress levels reach their peak, when your debt related anxiety seems to be close to bursting, you should put your foot down and start walking your way, the rational way - the "getting out of debt way".

Affirmations and positive thinking
<p>
One of the characteristics we all share is the impression that, at certain points during our lives, we are completely helpless. That's not true and self pity is an immobilizing and energy draining disease. Positive thinking is the best medicine against such negative thoughts. It uses affirmations - phrases that define your personality or actions, phrases that you repeat over and over so that your mind can use them as weapons against self pity, low self esteem and anxiety. Repeating the affirmations turns them into beliefs and they become reality, not just some nice words that you would like to associate to yourself. Our beliefs are flexible and we can change them. "I'm never going to repay my credit card debt" is often some of the phrases you hear from those who are having financial problems. This negative thought, repeated, out loud or in their minds, becomes their belief, and their actions are doomed to fail. If the same person were to say "I WILL repay my debt" - and complement this saying with the appropriate actions, such as better finance management, a more economical life style and so on - he or she would turn the tide in their favor. Try to set a few goals for yourself and turn them into short but symbolic affirmations, which you will then repeat as often as possible. Correlate your thoughts and actions and you will soon start seeing the first signs of success.<br />

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>There are five areas of personality and success that are very helpful in helping you to create the life of your dreams. These five areas and a good understanding of each will allow you to have anything, and anyone you desire, if you so choose. These are extremely powerful forces of creation and understanding, and when used properly, will create your life in any way you choose. Though they are simple in concept, they are not always easy to work on or understand. Though they are not always easy, they are extremely powerful and well worth the time and energy it takes to create balance and results in your life.</p>
<p>The five areas are labeled based upon natural elements in nature and what those natural elements represent. The five elements are earth, water, fire, wind, and void. Each represents certain aspects of our personality, our approach and view of the world, as well as strategies for getting what we want. The trick is to understand these different traits and to develop each of the five traits within yourself. Once you understand these traits and are able to open yourself up to them and utilize them on a regular basis, there is nothing you cannot have in this world.</p>
<p>Most people naturally fit into one or two of these traits. Due to upbringing and experiences in life, these are the elements that naturally fit our personality. One might ask why it is important to develop a balance between the five elements if we already come from one or two of them. The answer to that question is options. The more options you have, the more tools you have to work with. A carpenter doesn't try to build a house with just a hammer. He uses saws, and screws, and nails, and screw drivers, and sockets, and nuts and bolts, and a ton of other tools. Our lives are no different and an understanding and application of these elements in our daily lives gives us more options to work with to get the results we want.</p>
<p>Sometimes we need to be flexible and adaptable, while other times we need to be strong and firm. Sometimes we need to be direct and committed while other times we need to flow with the punches. The element of void is really about this ability. Void is about your ability to shift from one element to the next and use it effectively for different situations. Void is also your ability to recognize which element will get the best results for this situation. This also works in the negative. Negative void is someone who holds many of the negative traits of each element and gets little to no results because of it. <p>Ray was on a tear.
<p>
"All that self-help stuff is okay, I guess, but it has never worked for me. Ever." He was starting to get excited, waving his arms and pacing around.
<p>
"In fact," he went on, "it usually makes things worse for me."
<p>
I asked Ray for examples.
<p>
"Well, like, I'm out of work - you know that, right? - and I've wasted the last two months trying to affirm myself a job." He sat down, dejected. "Heck, it would have worked better if I'd just gone and seen about all the jobs in the classified ads or visited the employment agencies."
<p>
"You didn't physically do anything to find a job?" I asked.
<p>
"Well no," he almost shouted. "I didn't want to drain my energy away from the affirmations. I mean, that'd show a lack of faith, right?"
<p>
Ray was running a pattern I'd seen him do before.
<p>
One time he had told me about the expensive new "good luck charm" he'd ordered. Paid a couple of hundred dollars for it, so it was sure to work. But it didn't - at least not for Ray - and the next time I saw him, he was complaining bitterly about how he'd been "taken."
<p>
Another time, he was attending a series of classes by a rising new teacher. This also bombed.
<p>
And now Ray was telling me that, other than doing his affirmations, he'd made no physical effort to receive the benefits he was programming for - had avoided it, in fact.
<p>
Sooner or later, everything disappointed Ray. Nothing "worked" for him.
<p>
Ever had a little of that feeling?
<p>
Now, maybe most of us are not as extreme (nor as obvious) as Ray, but we've all had times when neither our best intentions nor our best efforts were rewarded. We got no results and we didn't know why.
<p>
Well, here's the short answer: for everything that happens (or doesn't happen) to us, all the causes are within ourselves.
<p>
That may sound a little too fuzzy-edged to grab hold of, or to do anything with, so let's break it down into smaller, simpler pieces.
<p>
PIECE ONE:<br />
What you spend your time thinking about shows up in your life.
<p>
Buddha said it. One way or another, all the religious teachers and philosophers have said it. And virtually every successful person who ever lived has told us this.
<p>
They all told us that the thoughts we think become real and happen to us.
<p>
PIECE TWO:<br />
Positive thinking is not just repeating some phrases over and over.
<p>
Positive thinking - ANY thinking - is what you're expecting to happen to you this afternoon. It's how you feel about yourself, and about me, and about your neighbors and co-workers and family members.
<p>
Your thinking is more than just words. It's your feelings. It's your attitude toward yourself and others. It's what you expect to happen to you today and next week. And it's your determination never to give up when things get tough and don't go the way you had planned.
<p>
Your thinking is far, far more than just the words you repeat.
<p>
If you see somebody at your level or below and think they're not worthy of your notice, or if you see someone richer or more successful and you feel jealous of them, then that's not positive thinking. It's negative because it's expressing feelings of lack and limitation.
<p>
PIECE THREE:<br />
If you don't know why events happen to you, then you don't know what you're thinking.
<p>
How can you control your life if you haven't yet learned to take control of what's going on in your own head? But the sad truth is, most of us are grossly unaware of what flits around in our skulls.
<p>
The enlightened being knows what's happening in their inner landscape, and can choose thoughts, select emotions and feelings, and direct their expectations with the same ease that you and I click buttons on the remote control. That's why they seem to have the events of their life under control.
<p>
And no matter how faraway that ideal may seem, you can learn to do some of that "enlightened" stuff too.
<p>
Here's a quick tip: Reverse engineer your life.
<p>
To find out exactly what thoughts, feelings and expectations are in your mind, look around at your physical life. Painful as it may be to admit, your life is solid evidence of what's emanating from your head.
<p>
Don't like what you see? That's good. In a moment we'll learn a way to use this to our advantage.
<p>
PIECE FOUR:<br />
Accept yourself, warts, hiccups and all.
<p>
Ray was always looking for something or somebody to "save" him. He had no belief in his own power, so he constantly sought out some outside power to lean on. Something to make up for his own powerlessness. He was seeking a guru or savior when it would have been more profitable to find a mentor that he could imitate.
<p>
Of course, he unknowingly felt he was incapable of being saved, so that outside guru or lucky charm or new technique always failed him. Naturally it failed - all of his natural, inherent power (of which he was completely unaware) was being directed by his belief in his powerlessness.
<p>
Ask Ray if he was ready to recognize his limitations, and he would talk all around the subject, telling you why this book or that amulet didn't perform as promised. It was always "their" fault, not his.
<p>
We've all done this - every one of us - and it's a big stumbling block. We simply hate to see ourselves as we really are.
<p>
But if you want to get past this stumbling block, you'll have to give up the concept of "fault." Their fault AND yours.
<p>
In its place, you'll need to start using "responsibility."
<p>
What's the difference? Mainly resentment and guilt.
<p>
When anybody talks about fault, don't they usually go directly from that subject to WHOSE fault it was? And how badly it inconvenienced them? There's no power in fault.
<p>
On the other hand, if you take responsibility for an event, this implies that some kind of control is possible. It's a description of who has the power and how they CHOSE to use it.
<p>
PIECE FIVE<br />
Everyone has power, even though they don't know it.
<p>
As we saw with Ray, he was using his natural power to form his world in a backwards way, keeping himself blinded to what he was doing.
<p>
And he was doing this by assuming that the power was "out there" somewhere. He was desperately seeking something or someone to lend him that power. But it always remained out there, out of reach, outside himself.
<p>
Okay, now let's talk about getting your self-help to really start helping.
<p>
STEP 1
<p>
List what's not working. What are the things in your life that are not the way you want them? Make a list, on paper.
<p>
This is a word-map showing exactly where you're unable to feel or accept your own power.
<p>
STEP 2
<p>
Take all those items on your list and spend 5 or 10 minutes fantasizing. Imagine what it would be like if you COULD control them. What if they were working perfectly for you? How would that look and feel?
<p>
Yes, I know that life never works out that way, and this excuse or that excuse is always in the way. Never mind any of that. Just sit yourself down and do it anyway. I mean, little else is working for you, right? So what's to lose?
<p>
STEP 3
<p>
Keep doing this regularly. Don't stop at one tepid toe-in-the-water trial. Do it often and get some enthusiasm into it.
<p>
STEP 4
<p>
When you get a hunch or idea or intuition, write it down before you forget it. Then go do it. Immediately.
<p>
Again, you should ignore any fears that "this won't work either" and just go ahead and give it an honest try.
<p>
Whether one particular effort brings smashing success or turns out to be a dud, keep on doing this. It makes just as much sense to do things this way as to continue on with your other method (that wasn't working).
<p>
STEP 5
<p>
Anytime you get results, whether good, bad or indifferent - anytime anything happens - deliberately repeat to yourself, "I caused everything about this situation. Nobody else stood in my way. It was ALL my doing, from start to finish, and I'm the power here."
<p>
WILL THIS REALLY WORK?
<p>
I guarantee this method will work at least as well as what you've been doing up till now, and you may be surprised to find it working far better. Why? because you're starting to fill your mind with things you want, emotions that support you, and expectations that these good things might actually be for you.
<p>
Furthermore, you're starting to practice control over what goes careening around in your head.
<p>

<p>  <P>Is fear holding you back from achieving your dreams? Do you hesitate when you have the chance to move forward in life because you are paralysed by your own imagination - thinking of all the terrible things that could happen?</P><P>Have you ever been in a situation where you were prepared for the worst to happen? Your mind ran wild with terrible imaginings and you were literally paralysed by fear! Soon the feared event happened! Yet when you eventually passed through the actual experience you realised that the fear you had was much worse than the actual event!</P><P>Most of us have had such experiences.</P><P>On the other hand have you ever feared the worst and it didn't happen?</P><P>In both the above situations you probably worked yourself into a frenzy in anticipation of this terrible thing that was about to happen only to find out later that your fears were unfounded. Your fears were worse than the eventual experience.</P><P>"The only thing we have to fear is fear itself" Franklin D. Roosevelt 1933.</P><P>So what is fear and how do we defeat it?</P><P>Fear is the result of negative mental programming. Fear enters your mind when your automatic thinking is negative. It rears its ugly head when you find yourself out of your comfort zone! It is the unknown outcome that produces fear in any situation and the collection of many thoughts that direct your consciousness to the worst possible scenario.</P><P>Fear is false!</P><P>The truth is that most of your fears never actually happen! Those fears that do happen are never as bad you have anticipated.</P><P>The key to conquering fear lies in your thinking and questioning. In future when you are confronted with a fear you should stop for a moment and take a very deep breath. Breathing deeply relaxes the body and removes the tension that the fear is creating in your body. Then look closely at the way you have just been thinking. You will find that your mind was filled with the worst possible images connected to your fear.</P><P>Reverse the thoughts! Begin by questioning the fear. Use the following four questions to paralyse the fear!</P><P>1. Is your feared based in reality?</P><P>2. If this fear were to come to pass and be manifested in your life would the experience really be as bad as you are imagining it would be?</P><P>3. Is it possible that you may actually gain something from experiencing the feared event?</P><P>This last question may sound like a strange thing to ask yourself but there is a two-fold reason for asking it. Firstly, any thought in a different direction breaks the runaway train of negative fearful thought! Secondly, it forces you to look at the fear from a different perspective and neutralizes its power.</P><P>4. Is it possible that if I change my thinking now I can actually create what I want instead of being fearful?</P><P>When we change how we think we change how we act. A great majority of people who experience the things that they have feared for a long time have actually brought about the feared event themselves because they have constantly focused on their fears. By focusing on your fears you tend to act in ways that are connected to the fears and thus you unconsciously create the feared event. An example would be a person who fears they will lose their partner. In order to keep the person they will try to control everything they do, constantly question their actions and scrutinize their every move in order to ensure they never leave them. I am sure you can see that this behaviour will actually push the person away. Yet to them they are ensuring they keep the person! 			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>Jeff and I had been dating for almost a year.  With Valentine's Day rapidly approaching, I was wondering if this would be the day that he would propose marriage.  I did not know what to expect when the special day finally came.  However, it was not a box of candy and a small plastic bobble for my key ring called Heart Attack Weapon that I was expecting.  I was disappointed but tried very hard not to show it.  Jeff was so thrilled with the Heart Attack Weapon that I bit my tongue and was thankful that he remembered Valentine's Day at all.</p>
<p>Jeff is a police officer in our small town and is always prepared for any possibility.  He spent a great deal of time to explain how the Heart Attack Weapon was an extremely better and more effective self defense weapon than my car keys.</p>
<p>I grew up in this small town and nothing bad ever happened, so I was never particularly concerned about my safety.  All that changed one evening as I left work late.  I was walking to my car in the deserted parking lot when I saw a large dark figure approaching me.  My first thought was that it was another coworker leaving late but realized that mine was the only car there.</p>
<p>Everything happened so quickly.  One moment I was standing there watching this large dark figure and in the next moment he was grabbing at me and trying to drag me out of the parking lot into the bushes.   How could this be happening to me?  I was kicking and screaming and trying to get away when I felt the keys and the Heart Attack Weapon in my hand.</p>
<p>The many discussions Jeff had with me about protecting myself came flooding back into my head.    I remembered that I should try to remain calm and to use every resource available to protect myself.   This man was so big and strong that I knew I would never overpower him, so I went completely limp and let him continue dragging me into the bushes.  He thought that this was his lucky night?an easy target to rape.</p>
<p>I laid there for a moment carefully watching him and as he came forward I plunged the Heart Attack Weapon directly into the middle of his chest?just like Jeff had showed me.  I put every ounce of my strength into that punch with my upward swing?added to this, was the weight of his own body as he was coming down to rape me.</p>
<p>The sound of his screaming was unbelievable as he fell to the ground grabbing his chest.  He just rolled up in a ball crying out and holding his chest.</p>
<p>Seizing the moment, I made a mad dash to my car, got in and drove away.  I had escaped a terrible fate, all because my boyfriend had the insight to buy me the Heart Attack Weapon, a gift that I did not appreciate.</p>
<p>I will be forever grateful for the small plastic Heart Attack Weapon.  I was able to protect myself during an attack and I survived to tell about it.</p>

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>If you are looking for a way to be successful in whatever you do, you may be struggling to find the best formula to help you do so.  The truth is that it takes two main components in order to be a success in anything.  </p>
<p>The first component is motivation and the second is goal setting.  In order to be successful, you need to have a balance of these two components. </p>
<p>Without one, the other is useless.  There are many people who are great at setting goals and then follow up with no motivation.  They tend to get confused when they rarely meet their goals. </p>
<p>It can be difficult to have the right balance.  If you are someone who wants to be a success but will continue to get lost along the way, read more to figure out what you can do to get on the right track.  </p>
<p>Finding Motivation:<br />Motivation is a difficult thing to stir up on your own. We are often motivated naturally to do things.  For instance, when we are hungry, we are motivated to find a place to eat.  When someone says they lack motivation, they are not being honest with themselves. </p>
<p>Everyone has motivation inside of them. The difficult part may be funneling your natural motivation supply to specific goals you have in mind.  Once you know how to motivate yourself, you will find it easier to stay on task.</p>
<p>Each person can be motivated in a different way.  Some people work great on a reward motivation system.  In this system the participants reward themselves each time they meet a goal.  </p>
<p>If you are trying to lose weight, then you can reward yourself with a new outfit each time you meet a goal in your plan.  If you are trying to spend less, you can reward yourself with a night out each month you follow your budget exactly. </p>
<p>Many people respond well to this type of reward system, especially if they were raised in a home that practiced the same system.  </p>
<p>Setting Goals:<br />Along with finding your motivation, the other equally important aspect of being a success is learning to set goals. </p>
<p>The most important thing to remember when setting goals is that you should always set realistic goals.  Be aware of your capabilities. </p>
<p>It is fine to push yourself a little, but if you create goals that are not realistic, then you will likely give up trying to meet them.  Often people who set unrealistic goals are capable of the goal itself, but are exhausted at trying to reach it all at once.  </p>
<p>With many goals, like weight loss goals, you should break them up into smaller goals.  You can work on part of the goal at a time. </p>
<p>For instance, if you want to lose 100 pounds, it can be difficult to stay motivated with that huge number in mind, especially when the average person can lose a few pounds a week.  Try setting a weekly goal of losing two pounds.  If you exceed that goal then you can celebrate, but you may find that each goal is right on target. </p>
<p>The less pressure you put on yourself to succeed, the easier it will come.  </p>
<p>When you do set a goal, make sure that you are constantly reminded of your goal.  You can tell those around you of your goal so you will feel accountable for following through.  </p>
<p>You can also create notes to post around your home, office, or car in order to help you keep on track.  No matter what your goal is, it must be remembered each day.  As creatures of habit, we can easily train ourselves to be successful and meet our goals.  </p>
<p>When we are constantly focused on the goal at hand, we will be better able to do so.  </p>
<p>When you put 50% motivation and 50% goal setting into something you can guarantee you will succeed.  Remember that everyone has the ability to be motivated. </p>
<p>Each person may require a different technique, but we can all be motivated just the same.  Also, be sure to set goals often.  </p>
<p>Reasonable goals are those that you are capable of meeting.  Never push yourself too hard with your goal or you might risk getting burned-out and quitting.  </p>
<p>Creating a balance between motivation and goal setting is the key to all success however, so keep trying and you will get it right!</p>

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>I know this might sound silly coming from someone who skirts the perimeter of the self-help industry. However, it supports the way I coach, so accurately, I have no other choice than to proclaim 'there's no such thing as the Self-Help Industry?.</p>
<p>There are consultants that seep into the self-help industry. Being a business coach as well as a consultant can be an attractive offer. It might seem like one heck of a deal to get two rolled up in one. And this story is not about maligning the business consulting industry. When it comes to getting business advice they are the greatest.</p>
<p>Consider this. You have a business in trouble and you call up a consultant/coach to help you out. Here is where the difference lies. A consultant listens to, and reviews all aspects of your business and offers advice, suggestions and changes to your business. If that is what you want then a consultant is for you. My job as a coach is totally different.</p>
<p>To say that business is just business is the biggest contradiction I've ever run in to.  A business is ALL about relationships.  What kind of relationship do you have with your colleagues, staff or employees?  How good of a leader are you, even if you are the bottom of the staffing hierarchy? Every business needs and should have every person involved, thinking and acting like a leader.</p>
<p>What kind of relationship do you have with vendors, suppliers, customers? If you don't want to even think about it, this is an area for coaching.  How about all the fires you are putting out? Want to get to a place where you are responding to events in your business and not reacting?</p>
<p>What kind of personal relationships do you have outside your business?  To say that these are unimportant is misleading. They are VERY important. Show me a person who says my work stays at work and my personal life is for home?.well sorry I don't believe them.  I doubt very much the mind shuts off automatically when you walk into the office building. And I am willing to bet the minute you walk through the front door of your home your mind does not totally shut out work.  When you have problems at work they place stress on personal relationships. When you have problems at home, unless you are a computer with a solid filing system, they walk through the front door of your office. It's normal.</p>
<p>Coaching deals with handling the issues that in some way affect your business.  Get to a place where you respond and not react to things in your business as well as your personal life.  To believe that your business acts in isolation to the rest of your life is just not helpful or even true.</p>
<p>Do I know much about business? Well actually I do but I don't give advice. My assumption is that you already know the solutions to what is vexing you. You already surrounded your business with people you admire and trust to show you how to run your business. If not, then you might want to reconsider the lack of business support.  I would prefer you come up with THAT solution on your own and almost always my clients do.</p>
<p>?Hey! I should call up that consultant and get some help with my business plan!?</p>
<p>And my response would be, ?Yes that is a great idea!?</p>
<p>If you run into a consultant who will give you business advice as well as coaching then that IS a good deal but they aren't going to be cheap. If they are cheap then I would be suspicious.</p>
<p>What has this got to do with the self-help industry, not existing? Well all those books that tell you now to do things the ?right? way?well there IS no right way. Exploring consulting vs. coaching was just a way to show the difference.There is only your way. I will never write a book on self-help.  I don't believe any one book is going to offer you the solution that is going to inspire, motivate and MAINTAIN the excitement that comes with ?flow?.</p>
<p>I believe that I am a thought provoker and nothing more. You are the expert in your life and my job is to support you and ask the right questions. I know when I've followed my intuition and asked the right question, all sorts of lights start to come on.  My clients walk away inspired, motivated and excited to try out what THEY figured out all on their own. I offer support as delayed feedback because my goal is to not have my clients accountable to me.  My goal is to keep that fire burning that started with the spark of inspiration.</p>
<p>So is there a self-help industry? Well there are a lot of people out there that believe there is and make a million dollar business out of it. But I like to think that everyone I run into is an expert in their own lives. I'm just the catalyst.</p>

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>Have you ever heard someone say something like, "I haven't felt motivated lately," or, "I'll do it as soon as I feel motivated enough?" I know that I have and, truth be known, am guilty of using these and similar phrases myself. You see, I, like many others, used to believe that action only happens through motivation. That, I must wait around for the so-called "feeling to move me" before I will get anything accomplished.
<p>
Well, I was wrong. And I believe that I was wrong for two reasons. First is that I was unable to see the 'big picture' - the reason that the 'thing' had to be done in the first place and how that 'thing' relates to other things that I wanted to accomplish, do, enjoy, etc.
<p>
And secondly because, quite frankly, I just didn't know how I operated. Oh sure, I liked to believe that I was in control of myself, but why then was I not able to motivate myself if I did indeed have so much control?
<p>
Motivation is really like creativity, or any other drive or impulse. We can wait around for it to magically appear, which it often does and often at the most inopportune times (remember all the really great ideas you've had while driving down the road without a notebook or tape recorder to capture it? Or how about the times we're motivated to do something cool that our friends or family would really like but everyone else's schedule doesn't fit our 'moment of brilliance.' Remember?
<p>
No, the secret with motivation is to realize that it cannot be relied on to create action. It does, but in no predictable, usable way. Without the unpredictable variable such as luck, coincidence and the like, to rely on an emotional impulse such as motivation to drive us forward is like waiting for food to appear in your cupboards without going to the store to buy it.
<p>
How then do we create motivation? The answer, ironically, is in the question itself. How do we create . . .?
<p>
To create anything, we take action - we have to 'do' something. And actions themselves come in three forms - as thoughts - as speech - and, of course, as physical deeds. It is here that we find the necessary ingredients for 'creating' the motivation we need.
<p>
How? Let's take a look at the grocery scenario and ask another question: "What motivates us to go shopping for groceries in the first place?
<p>
Most people would answer, "I don't have any food in the house." But, a Ninja looking at the bigger picture would ask another question focused on the "why." Why don't I have groceries in the house? Because I or someone else ate them. Actions preceding the need for motivation is precisly what 'causes' the motivation to occur. Once we understand this little secret, we are then free to use the same formula to do it again and again.
<p>
Groceries are one thing, you say but, what about my goals. After all, groceries are a necessity, my goals are just dreams, wants, and wishes.
<p>
Here-in lies the answer to my first problem. Remember?
<p>
Right. The inability to 'see' (a mental action) how my goal was a necessary part of living the life I wanted to live. Because, once I was able to see how vital it was that I attain my goal - how I could not accomplish other things I wanted to do, I was then endowed with all the motivation I could handle to do what needed to be done.
<p>
So, it is true that motivation leads to action, but only, and I mean only, after it is caused into being by a previous action. There must be something in place, a thought or dream, a promise (verbal action), or something that must be handled (like an assailant's attack) that requires action NOW, before motivation will be the compelling drive for us to move.
<p>
Can you imagine using the same excuse for not achieving the goal you want when confronted by an attacker? I really don't think that "I'm not motivated to do anything right now," is going to make him or her go away - do you?<br /><b>About The Author</b></p>

<p>To acquaint the Sarpanches and other epresentatives of U.T. Villages about the importance and benefits of Self Help Groups in generating and increasing the income of the villagers , a training programme was arranged by the NABARD, Chandigarh on 30.1.2006 in collaboration with the Rural Development Department of Chandigarh Administration. The training programme was attended by the Managers of the different Rural Bank Branches and the Sarpanches of GramPanchayats of U.T. Chandigarh.To begin with Shri Amar Nath , Director Rural Development, advised the Sarpanches to take the benefit of different income generating schemes of the departments of the Chandigarh Administration. He specially emphasized on the creation of Self Help Groups of the poor and needy villagers, whowant to generate their income. For creating Self Help Group, he sought the help of Sarpanches , so that the programme of SHGs proves a success.The Director Rural Development requested that Sarpanches to identify the villagers for the formation of SHGs.There after, the Chief General Manager of NABARD explained in detail the purpose and objective of forming the Self Help Groups, the advantages which the members of the Self Help Groups could take, the working and constitution of the SHGs. He further informed that various Government departments are ready to help the rural people by arranging loans and subsidies, if they come forward by forming SHGs. He asked the Bankers andthe Sarpanches to identify the prospective beneficiaries in their villageand the NABARD authorities will provide full cooperation and help insecuring loans/subsidies to the SHGs.On this occasion, the NABARD authorities also arranged a presentation regarding the working and usefulness of the SHGs in the upliftment of economic standard of the rural people. The Sarpanches agreed to identify the beneficiaries. However, they requested that the NABARD authoritiesmay also arrange such presentations in the villages with the collaborationof the rural bank branches and the Panchayat Department, so that a good impact is brought out on the beneficiaries for the success of the programme. As a start, a programme for arranging the training camps was chalked out for following villages:-1. Khuda Lahora/Khuda Jassu 08.2.20062. Khuda Alisher 15.2.20063. Dadumajra 17.2.20064. Dhanas 24.2.2006Such training camps will be arranged in other villages also thereafter.<br />
