Some people say that success is not for everybody, and the truth is, it isn’t. However, the strange thing is that anybody can achieve it. Confusing? Well, to put it into simple terms, success requires strong undying determination to excel in whatever you choose to be. And while anyone, regardless of gender, culture, or background, is capable of having determination; many people fall short on it and just give up before reaching their goals. Thus, it is within anyone’s power to be successful, but not everyone will achieve it.

There are a few steps which can assist you into attaining success and I am going to share it with you today. Keep in mind that having determination and perseverance is crucial throughout the whole process, and without it, it is for sure that you won’t be able to go far.

Well, the first step in becoming a successful person is simply to know what you want to be successful in. Many a times, we tend to chase after goals that end up less than satisfactory or even failing in them. This is because what we were pursuing weren’t really what we wanted.

Some of these goals may not even be ours, but instead, they are the dreams of our family members or even friends, who have passed down the responsibilities of what they couldn’t achieve to you. In some cases, your desires may coincide with theirs, and it’s a ‘happy ever after’ ending once you have achieved it. But on the other hand, what you are trying to achieve for their sake, may not be what you truly want, and this is when trouble starts brewing. Remember, determination is brought about by passion, and passion comes about by truly loving what you are doing. Thus, make sure you know what you really want to achieve and that it is your dream.

So once you have your goal in sight, work towards it step by step. Write down the steps that you need to take in order to be a step closer to changing your dream into a reality. For example, if you need capital to start up a business, what are you going to do to raise that amount of money? Will it be by networking and getting more contacts, borrowing from family, friends or the bank? Whatever it is, write it down and start doing it. Planning what to do is important and should be done at every step of the way. Fail to plan and you will plan to fail.

Last but not least, do not be afraid of failure. Every stumble and every obstacle you meet only transforms you to becoming a better person than the day before, if you learn from your mistakes. There will definitely be sudden changes and shocks in your life and sometimes, you may find your priorities changing a little. Your goals are not set in stone and it is always possible to change them whenever you want, as long as that is what you truly desire.

So start thinking about your goals and desires today! It’s never too late to join the hall of success!

Prevention is better than cure. There are many ways in which we can make our bodies stronger and decrease the likelihood of getting cancer. One of the most direct methods is to simply change our diet.

What goes into our body plays a very important role in equipping it to be prepared for any viruses and diseases. Always make it a daily affair to be cautious and conscience of what you eat. Studies have shown that there are certain types of food that can help fight against cancer and you should start including in your meals today! Here are some of them.

1. Tomatoes

Tomatoes are rich in antioxidants especially vitamin C and ‘lycopene’. Antioxidants protect the body from cell and tissue damage, which is caused by harmful molecules called free radicals. Adding tomatoes in your foods such as spaghetti sauce can actually boost their ability to fight cancers.

2. Green Vegetables

Broccoli, cabbage, cauliflower, and Brussels sprouts are the best known varieties of the ‘cruciferous’ vegetables and all have good records as cancer fighters because they’re rich in ‘phytochemicals’ such as sulforaphane.

3. Garlic

Garlic is renowned for its therapeutic benefits, especially for cardiovascular conditions. Studies have shown that eating garlic lowers blood cholesterol and offers protection against cancer development and progression. Garlic also boost general immunity and has been proven to reduce the occurrence of stomach, breast, and esophagus tumors.

4. Olive Oil

If you have to use oil in your meals, it is best to use olive oil in most cases. This is one of the best and healthiest types of fat and it is high in phytochemical antioxidants and vitamin E. This type of oil is also helpful in prevention of breast and colon cancer.

5. Berries

Many different kinds of berries like strawberries, blueberries, and even red or purple grapes contain high amounts of ‘ellagic acid’, which has protective effects against oesophageal and colon cancer in animals. The powerful anthocyanins in berries will help to turn off the growth of cancer. These berries are also rich in powerful antioxidant flavonoids.

6. Tea

Tea contains antioxidants ‘polyphenols’ called catechins, of which green tea contains the highest levels of catechins, followed by oolong and black teas. These antioxidants halt tumor cells and protect healthy cells from damage. It is advised to drink three coffee-sized mugs of tea d day to provide you body with the appropriate amount of polyphenols.

7. Beans

Rich in isoflavones, a type of phytochemical, beans are thought to equip the body to provide protection against prostate cancer. It has also been shown those soy beans have breast cancer-fighting properties as well as protective effects against cardiovascular disease.

There are many other types of cancer fighting food other than the seven listed above. So be sure to research more about the different kinds of food that you can incorporate into your diet to help fight against cancer. All in all, you should always eat in moderation. Have a variety of these kinds of food in your meal. The sooner you start changing your diet for the better, the better the odds of you not developing cancer at all. And even if you already have cancer, all the more reasons for you to make changes in your diet to help assist your body in fighting cancer.

With that in mind, to prepare your bodies to be fighting machines against cancer, you should also take notice of your weight, NOT smoke, and exercise regularly. Remember to always include fruits and green vegetables into you meals daily. Take care of your body and have a wonderful meal today!

Hair loss is normally seen as a ‘guy’s issue’ as it is quite a common sight to see bald men or men with receding hairline. However, what many people don’t realize (or rather, what many women manage to hide) is that hair loss in women is just as common. Moreover, it is more devastating for the woman when it does happen. This is because women see their hair as the main part of their beauty, it is something that most women take pride in and thus, the psychological impact of hair loss in women is much greater than in men. The good thing about hair loss in women is that it normally does not result in total hair loss unlike the male counterparts.

There are many reasons for hair loss in women. Hereditary could be one of the reasons, though it is very rare in females. One more common cause is due to pregnancy. Women are notice that they tend to lose hair about 3 months after they have given birth. This is due to a sudden decrease in hormones. During pregnancy, the female body contains high levels of certain hormones which keep hair that would normally fall out. Thus, when the hormone level returns to normal, the sudden drop in hormones causes the hair to fall out.

The treatment for hair loss differs for males and females because some of these treatments cause hair growth on other parts of the body. Thus, for females, many doctors prescribe treatments of estrogen, though there are no proven studies that show a lack of estrogen does lead to hair loss in women.

Androgenic alopecia is a condition that affects about 2% of the population, resulting in total hair loss all over the body. There is no cure for hair loss in women or men who have this condition, but doctors can prescribe treatments to help lessen the symptoms. Some of these hair loss treatments for women include glucocorticoids, topical treatments, of which Minoxodil is the only one recommended for women, or anthralin. Mild cases of hair loss in women respond better to these treatments than more severe cases.

Patterns of hair loss in women are different than in men. Rather than experiencing total hair loss, women usually have small patches of baldness and the hair thins only in those areas. Such things as severe stress, an illness or even surgery can cause sudden hair loss in women.

When a woman consults her doctor about a hair loss problem, the doctor will look for the root causes. Once the cause is identified then he/she will be able to prescribe the proper hair loss treatment for women.

Hair loss in women is more common than you may realize, but can often be treated.

When you are trying to relieve some stress in your life, activities like exercising, yoga, and writing in your diary would come to your mind. However, have you ever thought about keeping a pet to reduce stress in your life? Humans indeed can offer support and comfort but one should not rule out keeping pets at home as they are also another source of social support. Added to the fact that keeping pets have will bring about certain health benefits to your life, you should definitely consider keeping one (that is IF you like having pets around AND that you have the time to raise one).

When I say pets, I don’t only mean cats and dogs but any kind of pets. They can be fishes, birds, terrapins or any other creature, as long that animal is of interest to you. Though, it is important to choose a pet that suits your temperament, living environment, and lifestyle. For example, if you’re living in a small studio apartment, it may not be wise to raise a Golden Retriever (a type of dog) as they need plenty of space to run around. So before deciding on what kind of pet to keep, make sure you do the proper research on whether it will be suitable for you to cohabit with the pet, if not this can cause additional stress to your life.

So here are a few ways in which having pets in your life can benefit you greatly!

1. Pets can help you reduce stress

Pet are great stress relievers and sometimes even better so than people. Research shows that people doing a stressful task while with their pets around actually experience less stressful moments then doing it with another person around. This may be because of the fact that pet can’t judge us. Thus we will be able to complete the task more smoothly.

2. Pets can help you socialize more

Keeping pets is a very enriching experience. It is also a great way to start a conversation with anyone, especially if the other person keeps similar pets as you. Moreover, if you have dog and take it out for a walk, it goes the impression that you are more approachable and more often than not, people will find reasons to stop and talk to you. This way, your network of friends increases.

3. Pets can make you feel emotionally better

If you simply adore animals, then nothing is more heartwarming to have your pet by your side while you sulk. The sight of their innocent puppy eyes or the touch of their silk-like fur seems to brighten up your life. Studies have shown the mood-enhancing advantages of keeping pets as men with AIDS are less likely to suffer from depression if they owned a pet. On the other hand, those that do not keep pets are THREE times more likely to show symptoms of depression. Therefore, if you know someone that is ill and loves animals, try bringing a pet around and see whether it will lighten their moods.

So if you love animals but don’t own any yet, give this one a shot! They will definitely change your life for the better. But remember to research on what kind of pets you can keep in your household first and if you can keep one, I say why not!

Do you find yourself constantly yawning while working, having trouble concentrating with the task at hand, or even having difficulty remembering certain things? This may be a signal to show that you are sleep deprived and it’s time to make some changes to your life.

An average person spends 1/3 of his life sleeping and this is estimated to be around 25 years in a life span of 75 years. The amount of sleep needed for humans differs at different stages of our life. For example, a newborn baby needs at least 18 hours of sleep per day, whereas an adult needs only 7-8 hours.

I am proud to say that nowadays, I sleep 7.5 hours a day; going to bed by 11pm and waking up at 630am and I tell you, this has definitely changed my life for the better. I feel younger and more energized. My days are more productive as I have more time to complete my work and I am able to focus more. And here’s the best part—I seldom fall sick! It has been such a long time since my last visit to the doctor (though I can’t say that I missed him) and being healthy and full of vigor is really a wonderful feeling.

Healthy sleep is crucial in maintaining a healthy lifestyle. Many people may think that sleep is a waste of time and sleep as little as possible. But on the contrary, sleep is an important time of rest and it rejuvenates the body and our minds in many different ways. As a matter of fact, when you get less than 6-7 hours of sleep daily, you are at a higher risk of harming your body by developing diabetes, obesity, cardiovascular diseases and other damaging effects. However, sleeping too much (9 hours and more) causes harm to your body too as it will weaken your sleep system. Thus you may still feel lethargic and tired the next morning even after a long nap. What you need is healthy sleep.

Healthy sleeping means that you need to get deep restorative sleep. This is when the brain attempts to recover and restore you immune system.

Sleeping healthily has many benefits. And here’s a few of them: reduce stress, more alertness, higher memory retention, helps the body repair itself (your cells produce more proteins when you are asleep), and it can also help you lose weight! So here are some tips to help you get the rest you need!

1.	Create a good sleeping environment

One of the ways to deepen your sleep is to create a suitable sleeping environment. Make your bed comfortable for sleeping and use it for sleep ONLY! Don’t use your bed to do your work or worst, have your meals there. Our bodies are used to routines, thus, if you tend to use your bed for other purposes, it takes a longer time for your body to relax and fall asleep at night. Also, make sure to keep the surrounding noise level down. Too much noise will cause distraction and make it harder to fall asleep. If you really can’t help with the noise, using ear plugs might do the job (however, don’t forget to wake up on time!)

2.	Have a sleeping routine

As I said before, the body is accustomed to routines. Thus, make sure you have a consistent sleeping routine; meaning that you sleep and wake up at a consistent timings everyday. If you normally sleep and wake up at erratic timings, using this method might be a little hard getting used to, but definitely not impossible. After the first week or so, your body clock will start to adapt well to your routine and you’ll start to see amazing results after that.

3.	Be conscious of what you eat

Try to avoid consuming any stimulus that keeps you awake (i.e. caffeine, nicotine) at least 6 hours before you sleep. This can interrupt your sleeping time when you go to bed at night. Instead of drinking caffeinated drinks, try drinking something warm like milk, or a chocolate drink, or even plain water will do. Also, do make an effort to minimize your food intake (especially fatty and rick food) during dinner times. This is because these kinds of food take a lot of work for your stomach to digest and may again, disrupt your sleeping pattern.

4.	Exercise regularly

To put it simply, exercising makes it easier to fall asleep, and what is more, you will tend to sleep better. You don’t need to exercise vigorously to get that effect, but just 20-30 minutes of the activity 3 times a week is enough to send you to la-la land, getting the right kind of sleep.

So start adjusting your sleep pattern today! There is no need to take big giant steps, but start by taking little ones such as not pressing the snooze button when the alarm rings. Just gradually make little changes to your sleeping routine and you will be surprised by how big it transforms your life for the better.

Better to starve free than be a fat slave.-Aesop

The quote from Aesop, the legendary Greek fables writer, rightly depicts the attitudes of most people today. It is easier to say that, especially in societies and countries which are highly affluence. Each of us yearns for our rights, our freedom to do the things that we want to. We believe that that is the right way and the only way in which we can find true happiness.

The definition of freedom is subjective. One online dictionary in itself has 17 various definitions of ‘freedom’. It encompasses personal, institutional, regional and even national rights to the things that each deserves. Wouldn’t our lives simply be perfect, if we can do the things that we want, and receive fair treatment from people or the system? Unfortunately, this world just does not function this way. Most often, we will find ourselves trap in a situation or a circumstance where we feel uncomfortable, treated unjustly, or forfeited of certain rights that we deserve or worked hard for.

So if that is the case, does that mean that freedom is an illusion that we will never be able to have? And worse still, what if all we have in life is what we have now and there is nothing left to work for in the next phase of it?

True freedom can be found in looking beyond the circumstance we are in, to find happiness and contentment whatever it may be. The difference between us human beings and animals, is that we have the power and choice to determine what we want to make out of life. That in itself, is a freedom that we’d possess. It is the exercising of that freedom that is difficult.

There is always a cost to freedom. The funny thing is freedom does not come free. The cost for freedom usually has a high debt attached and always with the shedding of blood. Just ask any soldier returning from war.

Freedom can be a high price to pay. We find freedom when we can willingly lay down our lives for others, regard them as better than us, love whether or not it will be returned, and all for the greater good. Freedom isn’t about us as individuals, it’s about giving up the right to yourself. Even giving up the right to your own life, if necessary.

Through the rough struggles to choose freedom, to choose to be happy in whatever circumstances we land in life, we will be able to find true freedom.

Once we are able to do this, we will no longer be fearful of our circumstances. Instead, we will be the master of it and have the power to control how we react to each situation.

“We can only be said to be alive in those moments when our hearts are conscious of our treasures.” — Thornton Wilder

If you’re reading this, you may or may not have come across articles or books about this topic before. If you have, this article will not be a waste of your time. The fact is, gratitude is something that we often forget to exercise. And hence, it often becomes the root cause of unhappiness, greed, envy or even physical illnesses. All these will trap and plague us, blinding our eyes to the treasures in our lives laid before us everyday.

Of course, you may think that this is an extreme point of view. Why should I even care about missing the treasures in my every day life? My life is fine the way that it is, and I have the right to pursue my next big house or car, or that up and rising colleague whom I can make use of to advance my career plan. However readers, I strongly urge you to read on to know how you can discover the secret of abundance and wealth and riches.

Gratitude is an important discipline to exercise. As mentioned in the quote above, we are alive only when our hearts are aware of the treasures that we already have. This refers to everything that we possess in our everyday lives. Be it our family, health, bank account, pet dog, neighbors or computer. Of course, you can have many reasons why each of these things is a hassle and frustrating problem instead of being a treasure. However, the fact is that we have the power to change the way we perceive the things around us. And only when we start seeing the things around us as blessings and treasures, then will we discover life in riches and abundance and happiness.

Below are several steps that will help you exercise gratitude.

1)	Set aside time to be thankful, to remember the happy and nice things that have been happening in your life Your first thought for each day will pretty much determine how the rest of your day will be like… Only if you set your mind to do it. Force yourself to look at the bright side. It will surely be tough and seem pointless initially, but in the long run, you will see life in a positive light, and the daily challenges of life will seem much more manageable. You do not need too much time to practice this, simply take one minute each morning. It will make a lot of difference.

2)	Look at the things you have, and not the things you don’t This is definitely something that does not come naturally. With the media and society bombarding us with messages that what we have is not enough, we are always open to greed and desiring things that others have and we don’t. A. Frank Clark once said that, “If a fellow isn’t thankful for what he’s got, he isn’t likely to be thankful for what he’s going to get.” And this is definitely well said. When we are contented with the things that we have, we will not be in a constant state of pursuing after things that we don’t have.

3)	when you face a challenge, be grateful for it Aspire to learn something from each challenge, instead of grumbling about it. That way, challenges will be seen as invaluable periods of growing and learning rather than parts of life that we fear and strive to avoid at all costs. Most people who have a positive and successful outlook of life do not have things easy for them, nor are they problem- free. But they are determined to overcome the problem, and not allow the problem to overcome them.

Of course, the list is non exhaustive. And, different people will have different ways of finding contentment. For some, it may be spending the night having a simple meal with his family. Or for others, it can be a short walk in the park admiring nature and the environment around us. It may also be sitting still, wherever we are, listening to our breathing and being conscious of our body functioning.

Whatever it may be, do not delay anymore. Make it a priority to practice gratitude. And from there, you will find the power, treasures and wealth that you are already possessing.

I’m sure many of you have heard your mum have said at one point of time to “Eat your breakfast!” And for all that its worth, her naggings held a very valid point—breakfast IS the most important meal of the day.

Glucose is the main source of energy for the brain and thus, it goes without saying that a continuous supply of glucose is needed to enhance the brain’s performance which includes improving one’s concentration, mental performance and memory.

As the name “breakfast” suggest—to break fast, it is vital that you should NOT skip breakfast. This is simply because the brain has been derived of ‘food’ during the time when you were asleep. Thus, if you carry out your activities without first having breakfast, you are essentially performing below your normal potential. Studies have revealed that having meals first thing in the morning helps to replenish blood glucose levels in the brain. Forgoing your breakfast often leads to poor concentration, irritability, and a high craving for food during the meals taken after that. This, more often than not, leads to overeating and weight gain.

In actual fact, if you are trying to shed some pounds, you should never skip breakfast. Control your diet by eating smaller meals and healthy snacks rather than having to resort to skipping meals. Ironically, if you are trying to diet, you can start off by having a healthy breakfast everyday as this will decrease the tendency to overeat for subsequent meals.

Also, if you have kids at home, make sure that they have their breakfast before heading off to school as research has shown that children who eat a good breakfast do better than those who do not.

Excuses like ‘not enough time’ and ‘too complicated to make’ are not good enough reasons for skipping the most important meal. Making a healthy breakfast is as simply as having a glass of milk, fruits (which you could have prepared the night before), and cereal (which simply comes out from the box!).

Here are some breakfast tips:

1.	A healthy breakfast consists of a balance of carbohydrates, protein, fats, and fiber. Protein can come from meat, eggs, beans or soy products, whereas fiber can be found in whole grain cereals, or in fruits. So mix and match these food groups when having your meal.

2.	Prepare your breakfast the night before. You could always pack your fruits in a ready-to-go container the night before or even prepare a mini breakfast box to bring to work the next day if you do not have time to do so in the morning.

3.	Eat last night’s leftovers. Another easy solution to not having enough time to prepare for your breakfast.

4.	Eat mindfully. Be it just 5 minutes or more, try and enjoy your breakfast. If you rush to have your breakfast, you won’t really feel like you had a meal. You don’t have to sit still and just focus on eating, but rather, just relax while having your breakfast instead of just wolfing it down.

So start eating your breakfast today! As someone once said, “eat breakfast like a king, lunch like a prince, and dine like a pauper.” Never discount the fact that breakfast is the most important meal of the day. So have a blast while you’re eating it!

You should always equip yourself with the appropriate tools to assist you in attaining your goals.

Just like one would need weapons, battle strategies and a whole load of soldiers to be able to engage in a war, you would need to have the right skill sets and information if you wanted to achieve your goal.

So plan out precisely what is going to be required to make your dreams come true, and that you meet these criteria and are capable of the sustained effort necessary.

For example, if you wanted to be the pitcher for the Yankees, you would obviously need to have a certain set of basic skill and physical attributes to qualify for the role. Moreover, these skills have to be honed to perfection as you are aiming to play in Major League Baseball where only the best are chosen.

However, sometimes just being talented in a certain area is not enough; you need to learn how to take advantage of your abilities. So no matter how good a pitcher you are, if you do not know how to advertise yourself, no one will know of your talent. So make sure you do not pass off any opportunity to take part in any activity that will allow to a step closer to your dreams. It would make sense to take part in a Major League Baseball Camp to pit yourself against other potential competitors.

Do not be afraid to ask for help during your path to success. Arrogance and complacency can be your greatest downfall. So if you are unsure whether or not you have what it takes to be a national pitcher, ask someone who does know—and make sure that person is reliable! If you want advice about making the Major League, ask someone with that sort of inside information like a scouting-level college baseball coach, a sports agent, etc.

Don’t ask your cousin Tom just because he watches the game all the time and knows everyone’s stats. Family and friends are normally the worst options to go for when looking for fair and objective evaluation, even if they are professionals in whatever field holds your interest. Only in the rarest of cases can someone be a professional first and a family member second.

So there! Once you have double-checked that you have all the necessary equipments (like time, money, commitment, etc) needed to reach your goal and if you’re still sure you have what it takes—go for it!
