Review of Tools for Life

The following is a paid review:

Tools to Life is a Self Help community web site which provides you with online, interactive self-help programs. Essentially, from what I can see it is a website/hub where you create an account for yourself and it provides you with an interactive learning platform.

The platform allow syou to choose “Tools to Life Programs” which you activate into your dashboard, kind of like signing up for a course at school. The the programs available now “Tools to Life - Coach Steele” and “Tools to Optimal Health - Dr. Carlos Santo” are provided free of charge and available immediately. Another program “Quit Smoking Tools - Coach Steele” say “Coming Soon” at the moment and I am unsure whether it will be a Free program or not when it comes out.

My review of this program is somewhat un-opinionated. Meaning, I think this idea could totally work or it could completely flop and I think that will solely depend on the actual content (programs) that are offered and whether they are offered at a price or for free etc. I would venture a guess that the website was built on the idea of setting up the structure, building a community and THEN figuring out what programs to put together and offer them. I suppose if you can attract a large enough user base you could then attract top of the line self-help authors and content writers to make programs for the system, but that does put the website in a sort of “chicken and the egg” scenario because I think in today’s Internet people demand good content up front in order to attract a large enough audience in the first place.

My suggestion for the website creators would be to stop building the “System” around the content and focus all their efforts on producing content right now. If I logged into the system and saw 500 programs availabe to be taken RIGHT NOW I would have been a lot more impressed than seeing just 2 (Even 25 would be good). Of course everyone has to start somewhere, but I know that people tend to follow social proof and having more courses, possibly with some of them being “FULL” might be enough to convince people to pay attention to the Tools to Life website more seriously. Right now I’ve created my free account and I just feel like waiting to see what they fill it with as far as content before I decide whether or not to use it or recommend it to all my friends.

Focusing My Efforts on InspiredMoneyMaker.com

Is Massive Action the Answer to All Your Problems?

Very often I will hear people say that the solution to all problems is to just take massive action to solve all the problems in your life, and then you’ll have a wonderful life. As wonderful and logical as that sounds, it doesn’t work. Why? Because whatever we focus on multiplies. People like Mother Teresa knew this, and that is why she would never attend an Anti-War rally. She would come to a Peace rally, but not an Anti-War rally.

Does this mean that we should take no action? No. When you place your hand on a burning hot element, it would be wise to pull your hand away before you cause first degree burns to your skin. However, we must not rely on action alone as the solution to everything. We should seek to take action only when it is necessary.

This is an especially difficult concept to grasp for people who are primarily action oriented. They fight and battle this idea saying “What do you mean? Just take massive action and work hard and eventually you’ll succeed! Don’t be lazy!”

How Spirituality Affects Diet and Nutrition

In my last post I spoke about how my beliefs broke my diet. There are basically two parts to the challenge I’m encountering and today I figured out one part.

How Spirituality Affects Diet and Nutrition

Is a slimy cheeseburger dripping with fat bad for you? Does it harm your body? Or is it only bad for you if you believe it is bad for you?

Common sense tells us that eating crappy foods is bad for you. However, spiritual teachers such as Dr. How Len and Deepak Chopra as well as many others have made references to the fact that the foods themselves might only be “bad” for us if we believe they are bad for us. If you believe in a purely subjective reality model of the universe, this would obviously make total sense. Since in a subjective reality model we create everything we see, the food we eat doesn’t even exist, it is all just energy. It is only our beliefs and expectations that cause the effect. In this model it is only because we think chocolate cake makes us fat, that it makes us fat.

This line of thinking has been somewhat messing with my head lately and I know it’s at least partly to blame for my inability to stick to my 98% Diet and Fitness Plan . Today I found a logical solution.

Let’s assume for a moment that we do in fact live in a purely subjective reality model of the universe. Everything we see in front of us is purely created by us, by our subconscious beliefs. If so, does that mean then that we can eat whatever we want and as long as we believe that it is good for us we will be ok?

Yes and No. The challenge, as always is belief. In a subjective reality model yes you could eat whatever you wanted if you could somehow replace all of your subconscious beliefs and totally eliminate all reference to certain foods being bad for you. Practically speaking though, that is not easy to do.

For myself specifically, I realized that I have beliefs such as these already present in my conscious / subconscious mind:

There are some foods that are good for me and some that are bad
Some foods that are bad for me are …
Some foods that are good for me are …
When I eat foods that are bad for me, I am essentially slowly poisoning my body
When I eat foods that are bad for me my body stores fat to protect itself from the toxins I ingest
etc.

Because of this, when I do eat something that I know intellectually to be unhealthy such as a sloppy cheeseburger dripping with fat I will suffer, my body will suffer and a simple “Oh cmon, it can’t be that bad for me, it’s only bad for me if I believe it’s bad and I don’t really believe it’s bad” is NOT going to work (not for me). Yes, hypothetically speaking to a purely enlightened being food does nothing, but such a being can also drive nails through it’s hands and still be ok.

So, I’ve concluded my thinking on this with this simple experiment you can also do for yourself at home:

Step 1) Ask yourself - “Am I far enough with my spiritual studies that I can consider myself fully enlightened where I can do cool stuff like walking through walls and raising myself from the dead?”

Step 2)

If you answered YES, it is probably ok to eat cheeseburgers all day long. If you die, just raise yourself and keep eating.

If you answered NO, then you are probably not enlightened enough yet to be able to get away with eating whatever you want, therefore refer to step 3.

Step 3) If you want to be healthy and save yourself from years of pain going through countless debilitating degenerative diseases, eat healthy and continue your spiritual studies until you can answer step 1 with a YES.

How My Beliefs Broke My Diet

This is going to be a somewhat unusual post by me. I normally don’t like writing articles presenting a problem. I prefer to write articles presenting a solution to a problem once I’ve actually already solved it. However, today I felt compelled to share my problem even though I have no solution yet. Maybe someone else can relate.

Here’s my “problem” summarized. I have all the tools, the knowledge, the resources and know-how of how to eat healthy, what to eat, how to exercise, how to work-out etc. I am certified as a sports nutrition consultant so I can tell anyone what they need to eat in order to have optimal nutrition for the sports they are participating in etc. I have a home gym setup with a treadmill, an elliptical machine, a bowflex, freeweights etc. I have the money to purchase and prepare foods that are healthy and I have no doubt that I know which foods are healthy and which aren’t.

The “problem” is that I can’t seem to identify a reason to do it. I am healthy, I haven’t been sick with anything for over two years (no cold, no flu, no allergies, no pains, nothing). Yesterday at 2am I had a giant piece of cake that my wife made and I drank a coke before going to bed. It didn’t even phase me. The only difference for me between eating crappy and eating healthy is that I naturally gravitate towards the 195lb range when I eat like crap and I gravitate towards the 175lb range when I eat healthy.

I think the reason I’m getting “stuck” is that unlike some other people out there who get things like cancers or diabetes or aches or pains or headaches or whatever from eating like crap, I don’t really get any of those.

To add fuel to the fire, I’ve been reading a lot of books that dive into the spiritual side of things a lot in the last few years and I constantly run into a similar train of thought. To illustrate let me quote a sentence from Joe Vitale’s new book “Zero Limits”. On Page 166 Joe describes an evening out with Dr. Hew Len. They went out and Dr. Len ordered a big burger with meat, cheese on a white bun. Joe was stunned. He asked Dr. Len “Aren’t you worried about the cheese and meat and bread?” to which Dr. Len answered “Not at all. I have a chilli dog every morning for breakfast. I love this stuff.” … “It’s not the food that is dangerous,” he explained to Joe “It’s what you think about the food.”

I’ve heard similar messages from others, such as Deepak Chopra and other teachers. I think where I’m having problems is that I actually do believe them. I totally agree that it is only our belief that the foods we eat are bad for us that makes them bad for us. So then I think that is why I’m having such a hard time sticking to a “healthy” diet, even though I know “scientifically” that it is healthy.

I mean, it doesn’t take a genius to know that eating whole, live foods is better than some greasy burger right? But is the burger really bad for you, or is it only bad for you because you believe it’s bad for you?

When I was 19 years old I went to a doctor for a physical check up. She said I was as healthy as a horse. I used to play hours and hours of sports every week, but I ate like crap. I ate chocolate bars, drank slurpees and didn’t really care what I ate. However, at the time I had no interest in proper nutrition, eating healthy, worrying about cancers or anything. I just ate food because it tasted good. Then as I got older I started hearing about healthy foods and non-healthy foods and what’s good for you and what’s bad for you, etc. Now I’m not sure anymore. Was I healthy because I was young? Was I healthy because my doctor was an idiot and didn’t know the truth? Or was I healthy because the thoughts of cancer, tomours, bad foods, trans fats, saturated fats and stuff didn’t even enter my mind?

Has anyone reconciled this link between the spiritual belief of “it is so because we believe it to be so” and how it fits with diet? I’ll keep seeking answers, but just wanted to know if anyone else out there had this “issue”.
