Selling My Oak Plantation Resort Timeshare Unit (Or Maybe Not)!

I Am Running For Spot As Board Member of Oak Plantation Resort

Due to the decline in value at Oak Plantation Resort and all it's mismanagement, I have decided to run for a spot on the Board of Directors. I am not exactly sure how difficult this will be, since Owners like myself were sent notification of the Annual Meeting which I believe will be held on September 12, 2012 at the Oak Plantation Resort in Kissimmee, FL.

I am running because at a trip that AI took to the Resort 2 years ago, several things caught my eye. First off, when I checked into the front desk for my annual unit, discovered that my unit had been rented out to someone! Now, mind you, I am an owner, with annual usage since 2008, and this NEVER should have happened. Secondly, upon their granting me another room and upgrading the size to make up for the mistake, I discovered upon entering the unit that the front door had cobwebs caked onto it. If you were a guest somewhere, the front door is among the first things that you see. As you can imagine, this set the tone of my visit.

Once inside the unit, I noticed that they still had VHS cassette players, yet in the lobby they rented DVDs. A quick complaint call led them to bring us a DVD player, which was good. Another thing apparent inside the unit was that some things that were obviously worn - carpet, scratches and dents in the walls, etc. apparently had been that way for some time. There was a fair amount of dust on things in the unit.

Later on I used the Fitness Room, which had a treadmill machine whic must have been as old as the Resort - 20 years. Also the other equipment there was old, including the television.

Despite all the bad things that I have since read about the Resort- the horrible service, bedbugs, run- down amenities in the units and more, I believe that this once fabulous Resort, which is located on a nice, quaint spot with oak trees and is only about a 6 mile drive to Walt Disney World's gates, can be rejuvenated and made to become a premier destination spot in the Orlando area. With better management, housekeeping, repairs, maintenance, and service, the value of this Resort will increase over time for all owners. Value means fetching higher prices for room stays. Value comes from the Resort being sold-out. Value means that an owner can sell his interest quickly, due to high demand.

These are the reasons that I want to be on this board- so that some accountability will take place!

Why Can't I Sell My Oak Plantation Resort Timeshare Week for Even $200? Because it sucks!

Hey. I like going to Walt Disney World, and I used to enjoy my week at Oak Plantation, but the reality is, it now sucks. Why? I will go into tons of details why the Management of Oak Plantation Resort sucks. It has decreased the value of the resort for all Owners. It undercuts the other current owners by renting rooms for cheaper than what the Owners pay in dues. They have mismanaged the Resort, let it get run down, and they won't even let a dissatisfied owner (like me) simply give them my week back. If the Resort were really such a deal, wouldn't they let me give them back one or both of my weeks? Right? I will be blogging about the mismanagement of the resort again really soon!

That's a good price- the Resort would have charged you $14,000 for it, so I think it's a good deal for someone who likes this Property, and who likes to visit the Orlando/Walt Disney World area. Priceline.com is my favorite website for booking rooms for 1 or 2 nights anywhere. You can go to that website and look at how much rooms are going for generally, and then name your own price, in an attempt to get the rates that you want. I used Priceline to book 2 nights in Fort Lauderdale on my last trip to Florida last month. I paid $63 per night, tax included. I also got a mid-sized rental car for 9 days for $16 per day through Priceline.

What's Near Oak Plantation Resort?

Close-by to Oak Plantation Resort in Kissimmee are plenty of restaurants. Highway 192 offers lots of choices- KFC, Rally's, Outback Steakhouse, Macaroni Grill, and more. There's a huge Walmart Supercenter about a half a mile from the Resort. Not far down the road is a Super Target. Gator Land is also close. A Publix market is down the road, too. If you head down 192 toward Disney World and turn right at 535, you will wind up near Cross Roads, and at the entrance of Walt Disney World. Cross Roads has lots of restaurants. Downtown Disney also offers plenty of food and entertainment.

Timeshares can be a cool tool for vacationing regularly, but owning one can also force you to vacation regularly, whether you want to or not. Therefore, you must make sure that you can pay your yearly dues. Timeshare dues can go up over time. The dues usually consist of maintenance fees and taxes. Sometimes you may also get a special assessment- like if the whole timeshare resort needs some kind of special construction- in order to help pay for the new construction or repairs. I was once assessed that from the Oak Plantation Resort a few years back when a couple of hurricanes wrought havoc at the resort and all over Florida.

I belong to RCI, and I own 2 weeks at Oak Planation Resort, so I usually bank one week with RCI and use that week to travel to somewhere besides Disney World. I've been to Fort Lauderdale, FL, to Lake Tahoe (three times), to L'Anse St.-Jean (in Quebec, Canada), to Canmore, Canada (near Calgary, Alberta), to Avon, Colorado (where Oprah and Gayle passed through on their famous road trip together), and Anaheim (at a Resort near Disneyland). I even stayed at the Vistana Resort near Walt Disney World. Three years ago I also stayed at a nice Timeshare hotel in New Orleans, which was really close to the French Quarter and was right off Canal Street (I loved this trip- I learned about so much history there!)

I love traveling, and being able to use RCI is the best thing about owning a timeshare, in my opinion.

A Good Way To Visit Walt Disney World Inexpensively

When I first bought this Timeshare at Oak Plantation Resort in Kissimmee, FL, it was great- brand new, in fact. Being built, in fact- the pool wasn't even finished, but it looked like a nice thing. I turned out to be one of the first 25 Owners to buy into this property.

The next year, I went and it was open, and it was beautiful. All the units seemed rented, and the place was teeming with life. It even has a nice lake in the middle. Tennis courts. Basketball courts. A laundry room. A game room. A fitness center.

Years later, they even added a General Store.

The last time I went, I noticed that they had an Internet Cafe (which came in handy, big-time).
