I remember a couple of days ago I was arguing with a couple of friends who kept insisting they had other places that performed better. When it comes to MUSIC and DANCING everyone should know this originated from the mother continent and we've perfected every type of dance. Yes, we have maybe copied and also adapted western ways but no one gets down like an AFRICAN. First off it's a continent so comparing an entire CONTINENT to the likes of small nations like Jamaica or even large nations like Brazil wouldn't be fair.

Lagos, 17 June 2012: MTV Base Meets...with MTN returns to television screens across Africa on 1 August 2012 on the back of a highly successful first season that saw African youth make positive life-changing decisions after meeting their heroes on the show.

First initiated in 2011, MTV Base Meets…with MTN is a motivational youth empowerment and mentorship initiative and multimedia campaign that connects African youth with the thought leaders, opinion formers, decision makers and role models who shape their world.

Sponsored by Africa’s leading mobile operator, MTN, Season 2 of MTV Base Meets…With MTNfeatures an exciting and varied line-up of interviewees, including leading figures from the realms of entertainment, politics, fashion and sport, hand-picked to inspire African youth to fulfil their full potential. Liberian-born singer Jerrilyn Mulbah was inspired by Nigerian businessman Aliko Dangote to echo his 18-hour a day work ethic. Subsequently, Jerrilyn saw her career take off, with three successful singles getting great traction on radio in Nigeria and Liberia, and a new music video due for release at the end of June. Jerrilyn’s first album release follows soon, and her first national tour of Nigeria is due to be announced in the coming months.

South African event organiser Sizie Modise was one of a group of young people who met withBen Murray-Bruce of the Silverbird Group. She made such an impression on Murray-Bruce during the interview that the media mogul offered her a job.

Ghanaian Arnold Sarfo-Kantanka met with British entrepreneur and humanitarian Sir Richard Branson as part of the series and afterwards decided to concentrate full-time on helping young Ghanaians achieve their full potential through his role as the Operations Director of youth outreach project, WAM Campaign, and fashion line, Ma FIRI Ghana.

Season 2 of MTV Base Meets…with MTN, hosted by MTV VJs Sizwe Dhlomo and Vanessa Mdee, will air across Africa from 1 August on MTV Base (DSTV Channel 322) and on terrestrial stations across the continent, including STV and NTA (Nigeria), Spectrum TV (Cameroon), Viasat (Ghana), Rwanda TV (Rwanda), Swazi TV (Swaziland), Muvi TV (Zambia) and NTV and WBS (Uganda).

This was a NITE to remember, the most difficult part was to let a person like JESS approve a budget to be able to party like we wanted to. Balling on a budget is never fun! We were able to meet in the middle and did not spend too much. At this event people showed up from every corner, from DC to Ohio all the way even from Texas. Everyone was delightfully dressed in their top African wear and as the nite passed they changed clothing to throw down. Anywhere, where kuna wabongo it's guaranteed you have to start MDUARA for them to get hyped. As a DIASPORA for the TZ Community the best example we can serve for people back home is showing unity. Maybe politics and business isn't our best endeavor but just by simply getting together and having fun, gives our people back home HOPE & HEART. People miss BONGO, meeting up gives you a little bit of that back.

I just read this article it's actually in SWAHILI.

These kids are gangsta and much respect to them.

I think when matters get to this point the FACULTY is at fault.

One student doing something terrible is one thing,

a small group is always common but the entire campus?

Primary reason was because the lil hommies wanted RICE

and I guess the new people in charge weren't having it.

In turn they flipped the SCHOOL upside down and ended

causing structual damage and looted the school's computers.

So these kids actually had a TEST the next day & got a CLEVER PLAN to throw out those Exam papers

Their behavior was terrible but I know the majority of these Tanzanian kids wouldn't do it just for kicks and giggles. Someone really pissed them off and was acting unjustly, hence the breaking of windows.

Students under ARREST, I know someone got slapped, kicked but it woulda been worth it for me.

Even the head of state for that particular REGION showed up, that's equivalent to a Senator or Governor
The only way these people get the message is when things like this happen, Shit I wouldn't have known

They'll BE OUT OF SCHOOL until July 2nd, 2012 until the school gets the perpetrators and CLEANS up this mess.

I wish this happened in AMERICA. STUDENTS over there HONOR their Education and actually use their brain to reach a common goal. If you hate your teacher or you hate your school, it's not because school sucks. Maybe it's because the teacher is terrible or you aren't getting the proper FOOD or classes begin too early. All these things affect students and at times they speak up for change.

I BET YOU THEY'LL BE EATING RICE from NOW on, LOL.

Stand up for what you believe in, here dropping out is usually the solution for the system.

I remember a time in my boarding the entire campus refused to go into their classrooms.

1. Tokyo, Japan

The city has risen from the number two spot last year and has been ranked either first or second for the past five years. While the cost of renting in Asia’s most expensive city has remained relatively the same, the cost of other goods like a cup of coffee, fuel and a fast-food meal has gone up over the past year. By comparison, Tokyo is about one-third more expensive than Karachi, which is the least expensive city for expats among the 214 cities surveyed by Mercer.

As Japan’s most important economic center, Tokyo is the most desirable place for expats to live in. But the city's real estate market is expected to be hit by shrinking demand from expatriates in 2012 due to corporate cost-cutting and downsizing, according to Knight Frank.

2. Luanda, Angola

An oil boom has helped Angola become the third-largest economy in sub-Saharan Africa after South Africa and Nigeria. Crude oil sales account for over 95 percent of its export revenue, and the government expects GDP growth of 12.8 percent in 2012.

The most costly expense in Luanda is renting property, similar to number 8th ranked N’Djamena. Despite the average monthly cost of renting a luxury two-bedroom apartment falling $500 compared to last year, it still remains high at $6,500. Consumer inflation in Angola was more than 11 percent year-on-year in March.

The country is the largest recipient of foreign direct investment in sub-Saharan Africa with inflows of nearly $10 billion in 2010, according to the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD). Its main overseas investors include China, Portugal, Brazil and the U.S. and expatriates from these countries are sent to oversee local operations in Luanda.

3. Osaka, Japan

Known as an important commercial center for Japan, about 1.1 million people commute into the city during the day, according to the Japanese Statistics Bureau. The city has high rental prices because of its dense population, a limited amount of accommodation and high expatriate demand. A relatively strong yen has also heightened the cost of living for expatriates. The cost of buying daily goods like a cup of coffee, fuel, an international newspaper and fast food have all gone up from last year.

Osaka is also a key industrial hub and home to nearly 44,000 manufacturers, which creates added pressure on resources. But a strong yen and an aging labor pool have hit the once mighty industrial hub in recent decades. The city has seen a decline in manufacturing with three firms closing shop every day since the peak year of 1983.

4. Moscow, Russia

Despite widespread concerns over corruption, red tape, pollution and growing traffic congestion, Moscow’s place as Russia’s main political and business capital makes it the top destination for expat workers. The city attracts more investment than other Russian cities and accounts for about a quarter of the country’s $1.5 trillion economy. Daily issues like power outages and safety also drive up the cost of living for foreigners.
The rising cost of renting property is the most substantial increase in living costs for 2012, according to Mercer, with a luxury two-bedroom apartment going up by $200 compared to last year. Demand for luxury property in Moscow is also high because of growing wealth from the country’s oil and commodities boom. Moscow is home to the most billionaires in the world at 79, according to Forbes.

5. Geneva, Switzerland

It is Switzerland’s second-largest city after Zurich. Together, the two cities represent the high cost of living in Switzerland, the only Western European country to make the top 10 list.

Geneva is the country’s most expensive metropolitan area and like Zurich, the Swiss franc’s appreciation has raised the cost of living for expatriates. The average monthly rent for a luxury two-bedroom apartment in the city has gone up by nearly $300 from last year to around $4,800.

Geneva is home to 20 international organizations such as the United Nations, World Trade Organization and Red Cross, making it a big draw for expats. Over 44 percent of the city’s population is made up of foreigners. The cosmopolitan hub is also home to the world’s most expensive private schools and is said to have one of the best education systems, further adding to the high cost of living for families.

6. Zurich, Switzerland (Tied)

Zurich is an attractive location for international firms looking to take advantage of Switzerland’s low tax rates. Expatriates are also drawn to Zurich’s high quality of life. The city ranks third in the world when it comes to education, tax, and security as motives for purchasers to buy luxury property, according to Knight Frank.

While most European cities have dropped in the rankings, the strength of the local currency, the Swiss franc, has boosted the cost of living in Zurich. While Mercer ranks Zurich as the sixth most expensive city, the Economist Intelligence Unit (EIU) ranks it as number one. EIU’s survey covers 130 cities and takes into account 160 products and services.

6. Singapore (Tied)

The city has been moving up Mercer’s most expensive cities list, rising two spots this year from eighth in 2011 and 11 th in 2010. Known for its high property prices and rents compared to the rest of Southeast Asia, Singapore is also an extremely expensive place to own a car. The permit to buy a new car can cost anywhere between $46,000 to over $67,000. Prices of these 10-year permits, known as Certificate of Entitlement (COE), have jumped 40 percent since the beginning of this year.

An average Toyota Vios subcompact costs $85,700 including the permit, up from about $60,000 at the beginning of the year, according to motoring website SGcarmart.com.

Given the steep cost of living in Singapore, expat salaries are also correspondingly high. According to a survey by HSBC more than half of expats in Singapore earned more than $200,000 in 2011, making it the country with the highest expat salaries in Asia. Expats in Singapore need to have larger incomes than their home countries to maintain their standard of living. About 82 percent of expats surveyed said they were more likely to spend more money on accommodation, while 65 percent said they would spend more on food in 2011 compared to the global average of around 50 percent.

8. N’ Djamena, Chad

The key reason behind the high cost of living in N’Djamena is the difficulty in finding suitable and safe accommodations for expatriates, making the few available places extremely expensive. Companies must also take into account the personal safety of employees in the violence-mired city, further adding to costs.

The influx of expatriates working in Chad’s oil industry has pushed up the cost of living, with a fast-food meal costing as much as $25. Chad’s oil fields have attracted a number of international energy giants such as China National Petroleum Corporation (CNPC), Exxon Mobil, Chevron and Malaysia’s state-run Petronas. Chad saw investments of more than $8 billion in 2011 by Chinese firms keen to cash in on the country’s energy industry.

9. Hong Kong

One of the most substantial increases in the cost of living in Hong Kong has been in renting property. The average monthly rent for a luxury two-bedroom apartment jumped around $1,300 from $5,800 in 2011 to almost $7,100 this year. As one of the most densely populated cities in the world with limited housing supply, average house prices have skyrocketed over 93 percent between 2006 and 2011 — making Hong Kong the world’s second-hottest property market, according to real estate consultancy Knight Frank.

Hong Kong’s reputation as a major global financial center remains a big draw for international businesses and expatriates, which in turn pushes up the cost of living. The cost of food and fuel has also gone up from last year with headline inflation jumping nearly 5 percent in April.

10. Nagoya, Japan

Nagoya is Japan’s auto manufacturing hub, and an important place of business for some of the world’s leading carmakers like Toyota, Honda, General Motors and Volkswagen.

Expats are generally drawn to the city because of its large industrial sector. Demand for housing in the densely populated area, which is the third-largest in Japan, has driven up the cost of housing.

Still, the cost of renting a luxury two-bedroom apartment in Nagoya is around half the cost of renting in Tokyo. But Nagoya is as expensive as Tokyo when it comes to the cost of a cup of coffee, fuel or a fast-food meal. To top it off, a surging yen has resulted in higher prices in general for expats living in Japan.

SEASON 2 PREVIEW

Hello to everyone out there from Dar es salaam to Nairobi to Kampala and abroad in the States, Europe also Asia.

Since last year, people have been buzzing and talking about this new reality show that just transcends several barriers.

"Growing Up African" was an idea based upon a Tanzanian family. In this family are five siblings and a mother but their struggles,

personalities and attitudes can reflect the lives of any African household.

The family started out with their concept through internet based feedback primarily Blogs & Youtube in October 2010. Through the

support of blogs like yours they were able to garner enough support to breakthrough as a viable reality show. At the beginning of 2011

the family sent the producer of the show (Johnson Lujwangana) to Dar es salaam to speak with various Tv Networks.

Upon his arrival in Dar es salaam with the guidance of manager Herry Nasser, the concept received an overwhelming response.

People in East Africa love watching reality tv and shows like The Kardishians have been a focal point.

"Growing Up African" is unlike any other reality show presented because now the people of East Africa can relate to who they see.

It took hard work and convincing for EATV execs to foster the show onto their weekly program but everyone was excited.

The show is going on to it's second season of syndication and we would like to give a sneak preview of what they should expect.

And guess who DIRECTED this entire masterpiece. It was a great shoot, CHIDI is the consummate professional. He knew exactly what he wanted and how he wanted to be portrayed so it made my job that much easier. This video was recorded less than two weeks ago and within that time period it's already out. Usually I am able to record, edit and deliver the video within a week or so but this song needed that much more time to look the part. It was a long shoot that evening, lasting from 6pm to almost the morning but everyone was a trooper and we got all the necessary shots. Thanks to CHIDI for giving me the opportunity to do my job and I hope everyone is happy with my work. Everyday is a learning lesson and am just trying to set the bar higher & higher each time.

Even though there was an obvious LANGUAGE BARRIER I think these two did a great job.
Fally's music is generated from BOLINGO which even in Africa is considered OLD SKOOL.
He's one of Africa's most talented musicians and this was a great performance that show how modern music can co-exist with African ballads.

Singer Fally Ipupa is a Congolese-born recording artist who first made a musical impact with hits like "Eternellement" and "Ko Ko Ko Ko," alongside veteran Koffi Olomide. Seif Kabelele: Tell those who don’t know about you,your background in brief..
Johnson Lujwangana: My name is Johnson Lujwangana, I was born in Kibaha au Dar and I grew up in
                                 Bukoba. Since like age 3 or 4 I was raised by my grandmother, well two grandmothers
                                 but my favorite was my grandmother's sister. She had no kids but she took care of all
                                of us while my mom was still in the U.S. Right now am 25 years old and just living day
                                to day. I   attended boarding school in UGANDA for five years and been in New York
                                since 98.

Seif Kabelele: What are your favourite memories?

Johnson Lujwangana: My favorite memories are those I share with my family and closest friends. One of my recent fond memories was going out one nite to Maisha with Nuru Magram a.k.a Nuru the light & Martin and we stayed up till dawn. Also remember that day you (Seif kabelele) and Kahema Madafa picked me up and we had a ball enjoyin beers and food at Richie Mziray and Cynthia Masasi's crib. I basically enjoy every minute that I breath even when life sucks and am sad I still cherish those moments.

Seif Kabelele: What has been your greatest achievement so far?
Johnson Lujwangana: My greatest achievement so far, well I don't really think I've achieved anything more than the regular person. I am most proud of being able to be considered TANZANIAN and people allowing me to work with them. I love when I am able to EARN someone's trust, the rest is in the future.
