I have just recently attended a 2 day seminar which was held by Dr Alexander Elder, which is famous in the psychology field in trading. Basically he presented his ideas about trading from some of his famous books, trading for a living & come to my trading room.

Despite having already read both of his books before attending the event, I still enjoyed a great deal of it as he presented it with constant jokes, and of course, insightful trading ideas

On 1st day of the event, he touched really basic stuffs, such as the difference between Price and Value, money management, and always look at more than 1 time frame to get an additional edge. He also run through a handful of stocks, and explained to us how to analyze and what he is looking at when he sees a chart.He always looks at weekly chart to sort of to know whether he is bullish or bearish. He then proceeds to Daily chart to see whether or not there is an entry opportunity. If there is, he would grade it as A, B, or C trade. A trade is an immediate trade. B trade, is the trade that he might enter in the next few days as he is waiting for some pull back in price, and trade C, as potential trade that he would look at in weeks. He also continued with emphasizing that missing trade is OK. In the case of trade B, if the price went up / down without having some pull backs for him to get in, he would be OK, and move on.

Overall, excellent revision for me and I enjoyed it.Similar Posts:

I attended “Invest Wisely In 2012″ 2 weeks ago, it was organised by PhillipsCapital, the main speak was Dr Alexander Elder, MD , who is a professional trader, an expert in technical analysis, and a practicing psychiatrist. In 1988, he founded Financial Trading Seminars, Inc., an educational firm for traders, a firm that provides intensive trading camps for traders worldwide. His first book, Trading for a living, and it’s companion Study Guide have sold over 160,000 copies. Dr Elder believes that successful trading is based on 3 M’s: Mind, Method and Money. It was great to hear from a expert in trading, what are the fundamentals in trading, who should trade, and who should not trade. There are other tips which the good Dr provides, below are the summary of what I learn from the first day (11th Feb 2012);

Who should trade, who should not trade.

When the markets are emotional, it is best time to enter. Emotion is the reason why most people cannot make money trading. They are attached to the trade with feelings, and why most people closed their eyes when there is a problem. (Like a ostrich, thinking by putting their head in the ground, the predator will not see them.)

He recommended to start trading part time first before going into full time.

People with addictions and impulsive are not good traders.

3M’s of successful trading

Mind – discipline and focus. A lot of people thinks that the stock market can make money easily. Instead Dr Elder commented that “The stock market is the hardest place to make easy money”. He recommended that to write down the reasons why you buy, why you sell, and take pictures.

Method - Set trading rules for all traders. Most traders do not have rules for their trading, they are like gamblers.

Money – Money management is like walking wire in circus with a safety belt wire. So Dr Elder suggested 1) keeping a journal, 2) what is the value of stock and buy below the value. 3) Use at least 2 different time flames for technical analysis (daily chart and weekly chart). Use end of day (EOD) data as live data are for the pros. They are dangerous for beginners, but impulse traders love it.

There are 2 different type of trading, 1 of them Dr Elder called it the elephant hunting, where it will happen once in a lifetime for that stock. Take for example “Apple” stock, it was worth USD$3.02 in 7th Sept 1984, and USD$522.41 in 24th Feb 2012. Meaning you would not know the stock will become an elephant. Dr Elder recommended to do rabbit hunting instead, where the trade is a win but small in profit. Keep doing the rabbit hunting, one day you might find an elephant instead.

I like what the good Dr presented, and it sound easy to execute. But the main issue is to faithfully executing the trade, and following the rules of the trade you have set for yourself. This is the most difficult part for most traders, because it is very boring. And most traders wants to find excitement, so they break their own rules. This is also the reason why intelligent people lost money.

In summary, fundamentals are important in trading, without holding on to it. You will find it hard being a successful trader who make money constantly.Similar Posts:

I have attended the Advanced SEO Certification in Nov 2010, last month just re-attended it again in Clickevents @ Starhub Building. So this post has been delayed for more than a year now. Hahahaha.If you want to read another Advance SEO Review by Aidah, click on the link.

This year’s Advanced SEO seminar is very different from last year, maybe it’s because the more I re-learn it, the more I understand on SEO. So what is the main difference this year compare to last?

The Difference

1) For myself, it became more clear that SEO is a science and art. The science is that, if you follow these steps, you will receive the same or almost the same result, like in a chemistry lab. The art comes in when most have the same science or formula like you, how can you be different and be the leader? This is where the art comes in. To me, the art of SEO is more to marketing, with the amount of SEO knowledge, how can you beat your competitors online?

2) Social Media is a MUST For Online Business. Yes, it’s true. If you do not have a Facebook, Twitter, FourSquare, Linkedin, etc… It will spell doom for online business. Why is social media a must now. Actually if you are doing it now, you are quite late in marketing, but nevertheless it’s better late than never. The reason is that we are in the information generation, where information sharing is free and easy to find. So in order to verify if the product or service is good is through the past customers who used them. If the past customers are happy with it, they will talk about it to their friends, and even become your die hard fans. Google, Yahoo and Bing understands this factor, so they added social media as part of the formula to ranking the website.

Of course, a website is still a must and is the foundation for online business. That is why it starts first on your on-page SEO then off-page SEO, then social media. Google is now taking serious action for bad websites that do not give good user experience, you will find out the hard way that your SEO ranking will drop to nowhere.

3) Recommendation On Off-Page SEO Linking. This year, we actually have recommendation on how to generate links from authority and related websites. I will not share which are the websites and how it can be done, you can learn it when you signed up for it. To tell you the truth, these are really authority websites that will help your online business website rise in ranking easily. I have tested one of the websites, it was not easy, but worth the affect for doing this. Because I see my website rise in ranking, increase in traffic and of course in sales as well.

There’s a lot of different ways you can do to develop your leadership skills. A developing leadership skill is very beneficial to every individual. It allows a person to maximize his productivity and chances to have better life. This skill can be learned or reinforced through various aspect of life. Some methods involve voicing out ideas and thought like writing, speaking and conversing to people. Some is about community service and clubs or group involvement.

You maybe feel dread about speaking in front of people but there are lots of way you can try to voice out your ideas and thought without facing them. You can try to speak to them through radio or internet. You will be able maximize your communicating skills through this. You can also try writing. There are different forms of writing on which you can express you feeling and thoughts. You can try blogging, essay and articles writing or white paper. Who knows, your simple writing today might be a prestigious book someday. Just write, speak and communicate with people. This will help you develop your leadership skill as we all know that you can’t be an effective leader if are not able to communicate with people.

Another method is community involvement. You can try joining as volunteer in community service organizations. This will help a person to bring out the leader out of him. A rotary club is an example of organization that you can involve yourself in. Who knows, in the future, you can have your own organizations to lead in. Just remember, a great leader is open for all experience and ideas. Help others if there’s a chance that you have to. It’s a noble cause to help others and this is the basic foundation of a great leader.

Being a leader is not “in born”. You have to bring out the leader out of you by developing it through those aforementioned methods. Actually, there are still different method you can try to develop your leadership skills. It depends on what you want to practice. I was watching “Coach Carter” a few days ago (actually I have been watching it for a couple of times). I can’t help to watch it over and over again.

In this movie, coach Carter is a basketball coach for Richmond Oilers. Most of the the students in Richmond are below average grade, and are involve in gangs, etc… Not a easy type of students to coach basketball.
