Analysis of iron content in selected vegetarian food items in Pokhara.

Analysis of iron content of 10 vegetarian food samples belonging to three different food (spices, lentils and locally available vegetables) categories was the objective of this study. UV-Vis spectrophotometry was used to estimate and evaluate the levels of iron in the studied vegetables, lentils and spices. Vegetarians are more vulnerable to the deficiency of iron as they consume non-heme iron which needs to be altered before it can be absorbed by the body. While, non-vegetarians are rarely a victim of iron deficiency as their diet consists of meat through which they consume proteins like hemoglobin and myoglobin directly in the unaltered form. Inevitably, there is a need to measure the amount of iron in the vegetarian food products to determine which food sources are rich in iron, so that they may be consumed during iron deficiency. Spectrophotometric technique of analysis was used to determine the iron content. It works on principle of the Beer-Lambert law. From the results thus obtained, the maximum contribution was shown by spices and condiments towards the dietary iron content whereas the minimum contribution was shown by vegetables and lentils.

Step 4. After loading all installed updates, check for update "KB971033" and uninstall.

Step 5. Restart your PC.

The poem describes what happens to powerful people and animals after they die. It seeks to show that time reduces all great things of history into something insignificant. In other words, the poet shows how greatness continues only for a short time by representing several instances in the poem. The tusks of mastodons that clashed in the war have now become the playthings. The sword of Charlemagne the Just which devasted several emperors has now used. People who used to fear with the hug of grizzly bear now sit comfortably on its fun. Similarly, the powerful general Great Caesar is confined to the shelf.

MALINI

Malini

This play takes place in hindu kingdom. Malini , the daughter of a king has been caught by Buddhist monks. She wears simple dress and abandons ornaments. Her parents, especially her mother, suggest that she should not follow monks because they practice black arts and fill people’s mind with lies. However, Malini does not believe them. A group of Brahmins come to the front of the palace and demand her banishment. They find Hinduism, their traditional religion, endangered by Buddhism. Supriya objects to what Brahmins are demanding. He thinks that they are trying to determine truth with their number and shrill cry. Kemankar convinces him to be silent. Whenever the third Brahmin informs them that the army is supporting them, they are afraid that in the support there is the smell of rebellion. Then, they make penance and call on the Goddess. Meanwhile, Malini appears there because she has just left the palace. All Brahmins regard her as Goddess and bow their head. Though, they realize that she is Malini they are overcome by her love of the world. They request her to help them. The princess also becomes ready to serve them. They follow her and bring her back to the palace.

Kemankar is dissatisfied with Brahmins’ treatment to Malini. He leaves the kingdom to find soldiers of the other country to fight against the king and the followers of the new creed. He leaves his friend Supriya, behind to watch and keep him informed. Kemankar warns him to be away from the girl. But Supriya feels attracted to Malini because he believes that she represents love and truth. Then he betrays Kemankar by handing over his letter to the king in which Kemankar has about the scheme of rebellion. Kemankar is arrested and the king offers Supriya the chance to ask anything he want even Malini. Supriya says that all he wants from the King is the life of Kemankar.

Kemankar arrives in chains. He is proud of what he has done. He asks to speak to Supriya. They argue. They then agree to die together because that is the only way to find who is right. Kemankar kills Supriya with his chains in his hands. The King asks for his swords to kill Kemankar but Malini says “Father, forgive Kemankar.”

This is a poem of a cat. The poem draws a picture of the cat on the paper. The picture is drawn with words and letters, but not with sentences. The word CAT does not appear, but these words are the body of a cat, for example eye, mouth, paw and whisker. Other words are added to put the cat in a place, for example dish and litter box. These tell us the cat is a pet and not a wild cat. The poem ‘Concrete Cat’ is an example of concrete poem. It is a poem made for the eyes. KEEPING THINGS WHOLE

The poem Keeping Things Whole written by Mark Strand manages to say much by using few words. He knows that modern life is fragmented and we have many roles and responsibilities. We are always rushing from one place to another to make things complete. The poet says that all our movements are meaningful. He finds meaning in his movement to make things whole. We cannot be absolutely present in a place by not being absent in others. But still, we keep on moving and make things complete for sometimes.

OR,

This poem pleads for wholeness against the usual fragmentation that goes in life. The poet wants to keep things whole. He does not want anything to be broken. He does not find himself in the field. He finds that he is missing there. He thinks he divides the air when he walks. That is, he thinks when he is in a field; he breaks the field because he takes up space in it. The only way to make sure is that the field remains unbroken and whole is to keep moving.

This essay describes the mistake people make when speaking and the reasons why they make mistakes. The mistakes are divided into four categories: slips of the tongue fauxpas, mistranslations and spoonerisms.

Slips of the tongue are common mistakes where the speaker says one thing when they mean to say another. For example, a businessman Peter Balfour whished Prince Charles the happy married life with Lady Jane. But the prince was betrothed with the Lady Diana. He completely turned fool by expressing such a wish in a royal lunch. In the same way, during the election campaign Nancy Ragan telephoned her husband how delighted she was to be looking at all the beautiful white people. But she was unaware of the fact that the voters were not only the whites but also the blacks. Likewise, the French Prime Minister said that the bombing was aimed at Jew but stroke the innocent Frenchmen. He meant that the Jewis in France were not Frenchmen and they were not innocent either.

Another kind of verbal mistake is faux pas. Usually a faux pas occurs when a person says something that he or she thinks is harmless but it actually has meaning that will upset some people. Several political leaders have made such slips. Jimmy Carter never fully recovered when he mentioned the Polish lust for future. Chicago Mayor had the same bitter experience when he assured the public that “the policeman isn’t there to create disorder, the policeman is there to preserve disorder.”

Mistakes also result from mistranslation. Mistranslations are mistakes made when words in bre language are translated badly into another language. For instance, the slogan “Come Alive with Pepsi” failed in German when it was translated: “Come Alive out of the Grave with Pepsi.” When Lubke greeted Indian President at the airport, he intended to ask, “How are you?” instead said: “Who are you?” to which his guest answered, “I am the President of India.”

The mistakes also appear due to spoonerism. Spoonerism occurs when a persom mixes up the letters of the words they are saying. Once radio announcer Harry von Zell said, “Hoobert Heever” for Herbert Hoover. Similarly, William Archibald Spooner caused a stir with his famous spoonerisms. He gave out a hymn in chapel as “Kinquering Kongs Their Titles Take.” Once a spooner chided a student : “You have hissed all my mystery lectures. In fact you have tasted the whole worm, and must leave by the first town drain.”

Rosenblatt mentions two theoretical explanations for such mistakes: linguistic and psychological. By referring to linguist Victoria Fromkin, he says that the brain stores new information into a grammatical framework. The information remained in wrong grammatical framework comes out as error. A grammatical framework was a part of Anneberg’s trouble when he admitted before Queen as “some discomfiture as a result of a need for elements of refurbishing.”

On another front, psychoanalyst Eidelberg who made Freud’s work simple suggested that a slip of the tongue involves the entire network of id, ego and superego. He offers the case of the young man entering a restaurant with his girlfriend and ordered a room instead of a table. This expression is the reflection of the repressed desire of preoedipal period.

We laugh at someone’s mistakes because such mistakes are deviations from the conventional and normal course of life. They provide us delightful relief. Henry Bergson theorized that the act of laughter is caused by any interruption of normal human activity (a pie n the face, a mask, a pun). Thus, slips of the tongues are like slips on banana peels. So we shouldn’t laugh at them who make such mistakes.

यो कुरा निर्जनका साथीहरुलाई मात्र नभएर, सन्ध्याका साथीहरुलाई समेत थाहा थियो । सन्ध्या भन्ने गर्थिन् की, यदि निर्जनले मलाई मन पराउँथ्यो भने भनि हाल्थ्यो नि । ऊ मेरो वेस्ट friend मात्र हो....राम्रो साथी!...तर केटीहरु सन्ध्यालाई निर्जनको नामले जिस्काउँथे । कलेजमा निर्जन सन्ध्यालाई हेरिरहन्थ्यो, एक टकले । जब सन्ध्या निर्जनको छेउमा गफ गर्न आउँथिन् , तब उसको साथीहरु उसलाई छोडेर लुसुक्क जान्थे ताकी दुई जना मज्जाले गफ गर्न सकुन् । तर, निर्जनलाई धेरै अप्ठेरो महसुस हुन्थ्यो । सन्ध्याले निर्जनलाई आफ्नो हरेक कुरा share गर्थिन् । एकदिन सन्ध्याले निर्जनलाई सोधिन्, “तिमी त के सारो केटी झैँ लजाको के...तिम्रो ना पनि छक्क पर्छ होला है...”, निर्जन लजाउँदै भन्ने गथ्र्यो, मेरो gf छैन... यो सुनेर सन्ध्या हाँस्ने गर्थिन् मात्र, मानौ की निर्जनले त बडो मजाको जोक सुनाई रहेछ । यस्तैमा निर्जनले पनि बडो आँट जुटाएर सोध्यो, “तिम्रो bf छ कि छैन ?”...just सोधेको मात्र don't ल!, प्याच्च भनिहाल्यो । सन्ध्या भन्ने गर्थिन्, मैले त्यसबारे अहिले सोचेको छैन...म पहिला आफ्नो पढाई पुरा गर्छु , अनि मात्र सोच्ने छु...निर्जन चुपचाप बस्थ्यो, मानौ की ठुलो शोकमा परेको छ ऊ । जब कलेज छुट्टी हुन्थ्यो, अनि जब त्यो छुट्टी हुने बेला निर्जन र सन्ध्याको भेट हुन्थ्यो, त्यो बेला निर्जनका साथीहरु बाइकमा जाँदा कराउँदै भन्थे, “ओइ सन्ध्या, तिमीलाई निर्जनले मन पराउँछ...”(निर्जन रातो र पिरो हुन्थ्यो, मानौ की उसले ज्यानमारा खुर्सानी चपाइरहेको छ । )

सन्ध्या हाँस्थिन् मात्र । निर्जन डराउँदै सन्ध्यालाई भन्थ्यो, “तेस्तो केही हैन, mind नगर ल । ”

सन्ध्या : साथीहरु तेस्तै हुन्, केटा केटी सँगै हिँडेको देख्नु हुन्न gf/bf सोची हाल्छन् ।

निर्जन : तेइत भन्या...(तर, भित्र भित्रै उसलाई औडाहा हुन्थ्यो, सन्ध्या कसरी भनौँ कि म तिमीलाई मन पराउँछु भनेर, साथीहरुले भनेको कुरा सही हो भनेर....यस्तै कुरा मनमा खेलाउँदै टोलाउँथ्यो निर्जन)

सन्ध्याले झस्काउथिन् अनि जिस्काउँदै भन्ने गर्थिन्, “के हो, तिम्रो dream girlको बारेमा सोच्या हो कि क्या हो...अम्म्!, तिमीले तिम्रो dream girl भेटेउ भने सुरुमा मलाई भन है...आखिर वेस्ट friend पो हुँ त!!!...” ।(सन्ध्यालाई के थाहा कि, निर्जनकी dream girl उनी आफै हुन् भनेर...)

सन्ध्या सधैँ यस्तै कुरा गर्दै घर जाने बेला निर्जनलाई Bye! भन्दै एक मिठो मुस्कान छोड्दै जान्थिन् । निर्जनलाई उसका साथीहरुले धेरै भन्ने गर्थे कि, “सन्ध्यालाई आफ्नो मनको कुरा भन भनेर ” । तर, निर्जन भन्ने गथ्र्यो, “अहिले हैन यार्...अझ उसको नजिक हुनुछ...“समय आउँछ नि!” । साथीहरु भन्ने गर्थे, “ढिला नगर्, मन पराउने कुरा भन्दा नभ्याउँदै अर्काले उडाइदेला अनि खान्छस्” । निर्जन कराउँथ्यो तेसो भन्दा, साथीहरुसँग रिसाउँथ्यो...उसले धेरै मन पराउँथ्यो सन्ध्यालाई ।

एकदिन कलेजमा एउटा विषयको सर आउनुभएको थिएन । त्यसैले, त्यो बेला सन्ध्या निर्जन भएको ठाउँमा कुराकानी गर्न आइन्...गफ गर्दा गर्दै निर्जनले सन्ध्यालाई सोध्यो, “सन्ध्या, तिमी love मा believe गर्छाै ?”

सन्ध्या : अम्म्!!!...खै आजकलको love, to use and throw मात्र छ, कसलाई विश्वास गर्नु र ?

निर्जन : तै पनि सबै त तेस्तो हुदैनन् नि...

सन्ध्या : अम्म्!!...हुन सक्छ । तर छुट्याउनै गाह्रो, कसले true अनि कसले झुटो माया गर्दैछ भनेर थाहा नै हुन्न । केटाहरुको भर नै हुन्न (मलिन मुद्रामा...)

UNCHOPPING A TREE

In this essay, Merwin gives instructions for repairing a tree that has been chopped down. In other words, the essay is telling us to preserve the environment.

The essayist tells us that repairing of the tree should begin with leaves, twigs and nests, which have been broken off by the fall. It is not difficult work if the major limbs are not badly destroyed. The unchopping can be made easier by the correct or planned fall. The success of unchopping also depends on the size, age, shape and species of the tree. The regular and tedious work may make you wish the support of animals. But they will not help you because they have learned that this is man’s work.

If the tree is hollow and it contains nests, hoards of nuts and structures that bees and wasp build for their survival, repairing work is more difficult. Everything has to be reassembled and stick them back to their original place. Furthermore, it is difficult to put back webs and dry leaves. We do not have spider’s webbing equipment nor substitute for the leaf’s living bond with its points of attachment and nourishment. This is also the time for repairing neighboring trees or bushes or other growth that have been damaged by the fall.

The tackle and scaffolding should be placed on the right place depending on the surrounding and dimensions of the tree. If they are not installed carefully, they can further damage and grind neighboring trees, plants and other vegetation.

When the time comes to erect the trunk, you need to now t delicacy of the huge tree. Every slight upward pull of the trunk must go with every motion of the tackle. Putting the trunk back into place is very difficult because the end of the trunk is broken into splinters. It is necessary to straighten the splinters by using appropriate fixative and adhesives. After this sawdust and chips of broken wood should be returned to their original place although weathering makes the work very difficult.

The next day you have to remove the scaffolding piece by piece. When you remove the last piece, the tree stands on its own. You hardly believe your eyes. It stands as if the first breeze and the motion of the clouds can push it over. What you can do is only look and wait.

THE POPLAR FIELD

In this poem, the poet expresses his sorrow to see the poplar tress lying on the field. He can’t hear the whispering sound of the cool colonnades. He can’t get there any shade. The Ouse can’t receive the shade of the trees on her bosom. The black bird has shifted its nest. It has fled to another shelter where the hazel serves him as screen from the heat. The poet can’t hear the echoing melody of the bird.

The poet feels that he is growing old. One day he will have to die and lie in his grave. The other trees will not have grown in the places of the trees felled by then. This makes him think that man’s pleasures and enjoyments that he derives from nature live shorter than human life. Thus, man should preserve nature.

THE THREE DAY BLOW

It was an autumn evening. Nick Wemedge walked past a garden and reached Bill’s house on a hilltop. The rain had already stopped. Bill received his friend, Nick. Both of them stood together on the porch and looked out across the country and down over the orchard. The wind was blowing straight down the lake.

A little later, both Nick and Bill went inside the cottage. They started drinking whisky. Nick began to dry his wet shoes on a fire. Bill brought a pair of socks for Nick. They were drinking and talking on many topics. They talked about the baseball. They discussed that the Giants (The New York Giants always defeated the Cards The Saint Louis Cardinals) because McGrew could buy every good ball player in the league for the Giants. They also talked about the books and the writers like Walpole and Chesterton. They further talked about their own fathers and pointed out the virtues and defects of each. Later, they talked about the relationship Nick had with a girl called Marge (Marjorie). Bill tried to show Nick that marriage was something, which could make a man fall for somebody else. He said that Nick was right to break his relations with Marge. But Nick was still interested in her. He was still hopeful and he might see Marge in the town. Then they came down the hill for shooting but Nick was still thinking of going to town to see Marge.

A WORN PATH

There was an old Negro woman named Phoenix Jackson. She had a sick grandson who suffered from sore throat. She lived in a house a long way from the town of Natchez. She was going to collect medicine for her grandson. She was carrying a stick made of an umbrella. She slowly climbed up a hill among pinewoods and climbed down the hill among oak trees. She got her dress caught in a thorn bush. She managed to free herself from it. She also crossed a stream at the bottom of the hill walking along a log placed over it.

She also went through a barbered wire fence by crawling and creeping like a baby. She was safe through the fence and arrived at a clearing, which was a cotton field. She saw big dead trees there and a buzzard. She was glad not to find snakes and bulls, which she often encountered in the journeys she made earlier. Then, she arrived at a cornfield where she took scarecrow as a ghost. She went on parting her way from side to side and reached a ravine. There she drank water from a spring flowing through a hollow log. She continued her journey by walking alone a track that led her to a road. The road went down between the high green coloured banks. This time a dog came up out of the weeds and barked at her. She hit him with a stick that sent her down into the ditch. A white man pulled her up. She thanked him and mentioned that she lived away on the other side of the hill and she was going to town.

She saw a nickel fell out of the man’s pocket onto the ground. She tricked to send him away after the dog. Then she bent forward and picked up the nickel and put it into her pocket. Meanwhile, a bird flew by which made her realize that God was watching her stealing the nickel. He returned after sending the dog away and pointed the gun at her. However, she remained fearless. The man wanted to give her a time for her boldness but he had not any. She went on and reached the town. It was decorated with green and red lights for Christmas. She encountered a lady walking with presents in her hands for Christmas covered with colorful paper. She asked her to lace up her shoes. She readily tied them.

Phoenix was now standing in front of a stone building. It was the hospital. She climbed up the stairs and entered the room. A nurse asked about her grandson and gave her a bottle of medicine. LOOK AT A TEACUP

The two major themes of this essay are the relationship between mother and her daughter (the author) and the connection between the past and the present. Both of these themes are represented by a teacup.

The writer’s mother had bought the teacup in 1939. It was made in Czechoslovakia. It had discontinued pattern. Most of the teacups bought during that time were broken. But this cup that the writer is using to drink tea is still shiny. The cup is thin and the palest green but in certain light it is completely pale. There are thin bands of gold around its edges, midway down and at its base. The saucer has also these gold bands around the edges and on the inner circle. But inside the cup there are flowers, as if someone had scattered the bouquet. It seems to have fallen into several blossoms. Some of them have fallen faster to the bottom and some others are somewhere mid way.

Look At A Teacup

In 1939 the writer’s mother had married and American who had born in Czechoslovakia. The daughter remembers that her parents loved each other. Many other women also married like her in the same year. Many things fell that year for those newly married ladies. Their bodies fell paired with other bodies (husbands) on bed together for the first time. There was also falling of the flowers into the teacup, falling of bodies in Europe and falling of bombs onto women and finally falling of countries.

Mother and daughter disagree upon some issues. The daughter thinks that work is the most important thing. However, to her mother family is the most important thing. The mother wants her daughter to get married and give continuity to the generation. She believes that her daughter should ride into the golden light of the future. But the daughter is not prepared for it. The entire world, even the smallest object sends her back to the past to understand history and sexuality. She wants to go to the past because it interests much. She wants to know about the past that was quiet, strange and peaceful. She asks her mother to tell her about the past. But she always evades it by emphasizing that future is important, not the past. Not marrying, the daughter seems to stop history. Marriage means the continuation of generation, which she does not want. She does not see any meaning to continue the history because it is destroyed by men themselves by initiating war.

The teacup connects the mother, the daughter, the past and the present because it was made in 1939 in Czechoslovakia, and because the mother has now given it to her daughter. The author would like her mother to give her other things, like information about past but her mother will not talk about the past. This means the only way the daughter can find out about her mother is by looking at the teacup.

Answer The cup was brought to USA from Czechoslovakia. The writer’s mother bought if for her marriage in 1939. This is an example of the arts of Czechs. In other words, the nation where it was made has lost its existence. Its culture and traditional institutions like marriage have been destroyed. Even the artist who made it are no longer living. In this sense, the cup is a detail, uncharred finger from the mid century bonfire.

Q.2. What do you mean by “Many things fell that year”?

Answer By this, she means that not only the bodies fell onto the bed to sleep with their husbands but also other things fell. For instance, the art of flinging plant on the sides of the teacup came to an end the artists got killed and the nation itself lost its own existence. Bodies in Europe fell like rain when bullet and bombs attacked people. Women carrying flowers fell due to heavy bombardment. Their faith in their own country fell and the social institution like marriage fell. In short, by many things fell, she means that everything got destroyed by the war and its effects.

Q.3. What is the relationship among falling flowers and teacups, falling bodies and beds, and the falling of bombs onto women and falling countries?

Answer The relationship between the cup and falling flowers is that they are the part of each other. These flowers have added the beauty of the cup. The cup seems to represent the peaceful day of the history by holding these flowers. The falling bodies and beds represent the sexual relation between husbands and wives which is necessary for making history. The falling of bombs onto women and falling countries represents the killing of innocent people and destruction of several countries.

Q.4.How does Hampel see herself and her mother connected by the teacup?

Answer Hampel sees herself and her mother connected by the teacup because teacup is only the thing with her to understand history. Her mother does not like to tell her about the past because she thinks that future is more important than past. She hands over the teacup to her so that her daughter could understand history. Thus, the cup is mediating between the past and present generations.

Q.5 .What does this essay tell us about marriage? About mother-daughter relationship? About the importance of family? About women?

Answer The essay says that marriage is very important for the old generation for continuing traditions and traditional values. But the young generation is against the marriage. They take it tragedy and they don't like to undertake the responsibility bearing and bringing up the children. They can have sexual relations without marrying anyone. The essay also talks about daughter and mother relationship. Mother is always thinking that her daughter should get married. She always tries to give something to her daughter as souvenir for continuation of history. However, daughter is ignoring all women is traditional relations. The daughter does not see the important of marriage as her mother does.

Answer The story tells that being a woman for traditional woman means to marry, bear and bring up the children. She does not think that work is important. She wants to pass her possessions and knowledge to her daughter. But modern woman gives priority to work. She does not like to marry because sexual relation is possible without marrying.

The poet feels great joy when he sees a rainbow in the sky. There was a rainbow when he was born and still it is there in his manhood. He believes that there shall be rainbow in his old age. The poet becomes happy whenever he sees a rainbow in the sky. The poet generalizes that the feeling towards a rainbow is unalterable by age or time. The poet wishes to die if the continuation of nature is broken.

The poet says, “The child is a father of the Man”. It means that the things we do and feel as children affect and control the way we do and feel as adults. In other words, a child of today becomes a man of tomorrow and yesterday’s child is a man of today. It is time that makes a person child, then adult (man) and finally an old man. Or we can also say that present is the outcome (result) of past and future will be the outcome of present. The poet expresses his deep respect to the nature in the final two lines because for him nature is the source of inspiration to write poems and god as well. The poet sees the relationship between man and nature. As he goes on respecting nature, he hopes that god will be with him everyday.

Armando Gonzalez was a shoemaker. He lived with his family. One day he had gone to a bank to withdraw fifty thousand pesos to buy a house. But the teller of the bank troubled him by asking unnecessary questions. Furthermore, the teller counted out the bills loudly. It seemed to him that the people behind him knew how much he was carrying in cash. In his nervousness, he fidgeted his hat. By putting money into the pocket of his baggy pants, he was about to leave the bank. Accidentally, he put his hat on backward. A number of the people noticed and a few of them did a double take. One rather heavy man almost ran into a table in the middle of the lobby when he looked at Armando a second time. He felt that everyone in the bank knew what he had in his pocket. He was clutching the ward of bills tightly in his pant pocket.

Armando was waiting for the bus. He saw the heavy man standing next to him. It was the same man who had fallen into a table of the bank lobby to see Armando twice. Then Armando was sure that he was following him to rob him. He thought that his idea to buy a house was not good because he believed that someone was going to rob him. When the bus pulled up, the heavy man got on and took the seat farther back. Armando also got into it and took the first seat behind the driver. When some others came into the bus, they looked at Armando because he had put on his hat backward. All this made him think they knew he was carrying money.

Next time when Armando looked into the big mirror hung over the driver, he saw the heavy man reading a newspaper when the bus was rolling he wanted to outsmart the heavy man by getting off the bus. However, he withheld thinking of the worse situation in case the heavy man followed. This time he took the quick notice at the heavy man. He was found talking with three boys. This time Armando was sure that he was making plan to rob him. In panic, he grabbed the cord of buzzer and pulled it hard. He felt relaxed for the moment. He looked as if he was the only person getting off out of the bus through the back door. To his surprise, he saw three boys speaking, looking towards him. They were walking towards Armando. Then he thought that they would beat him and take all his money. He gave a frantic cry and started to run wildly. He cried for help and started running. The boys followed him thinking that he needed their help. But in his efforts to run away from them, Armando fell upon meal garbage. They were standing over him. They assured him that they were students who had come for a football tournament but they had caught wrong bus. Armando felt relief to hear this. He corrected his hat and he returned with them cheerily.

This is not a supernatural story because there are no ghosts or spirits in the story. It is a thriller (exciting and frightening story) based on the human fear of a nervous man.

SPEAKING OF CHILDREN

This essay clearly expresses the author's view that it is better to have one child rather than have several children. The author proves her claim by giving many reasons.

One child is just like the part of the parent's body. If there is only one child, the parents can easily train and teach it according to their desire and purpose. They can easily control their only child. But with more than one child, life becomes complicated and the children control the parents. If there are many children, the house becomes dirty with their dolls and toys. They bring new, unwelcome culture in the family. The parents have to take them to the places of entertainment and they don't have chances to do their routine work timely. The parents can't enjoy their holidays freely. Most of their time is to be spent for the children and thus their time is limited. The parents can't provide good education for those children. With more children, the family is like a noisy crowd.

The parents’ privacy is badly interrupted if there are plural children. When the mother tries to speak to her husband privately after the day’s work, she cannot do so because the children want her attention instead. This makes it difficult for her to understand her husband properly. Perhaps the mother tells the children to play in another room and she sits with her husband to talk for some time, but the children frequently disturb their conversation. As a result, there is a conflict between the desire for a private talk with her husband and the need to give to her children. The author says, with a single child, there are not such complications in the family. The parents can live in their own ways.

Background Information on the Essay:

The author and her husband have jobs. The author believes it is important for her to talk with her husband about her and his work of the day. This is an important part of a family in the western culture. Privacy is also an important part of western culture. The author does not want her children to listen to things she tells her husband. Instead, she wants to be alone with him, and talk with him while having a small drink of alcohol.

While eating dinner, Dr. Braun was also trying to write notes about the surgery. He was not found doing either of them because he was too tired. Soon he dozed off. He woke up suddenly to hear the doorbell ring. When he went to the door he saw a girl standing on the doorway. He knew from the girl that she had come for house call because her mother was very ill. He followed the little girl and hurried through the streets to catch her up. He wanted to ask a few questions to know more about her but could not. She led him to a dark front hallway of a tenement house. She started up the stairs. The doctor followed her and she seemed almost fly up five stories. She stopped only long enough at the top of each flight of stairs to s

ee that the doctor was coming. As he reached the top of the fifth stairs, he saw her standing in front of the door way at the end of the dark hallway. She told the doctor that her mother was inside the room. As he walked past her, she thanked him. As the doctor entered, he heard the door slowly close softly behind him.

In the dim light the doctor saw a woman lying on a bed in a small room. When he drew closer, he knew that she was Elda. She worked as maintenance staff at the hospital. She had gone to village about three years ago to live with her brother. He knew that the woman was suffering from pneumonia. He gave her some medicine. He knew from her that she had returned to the town some three months ago right after her daughter’s death. She had kept her shawl and a pair of shoes as reminders. As he looked them closely he saw that the shoes were wet. There was a look of surprise in his face and her looked frightened. As he turned to depart, he saw that the lady had fallen asleep. Touching her feverish head once more he left the house.

There are two possible explanations of whom the girl was who came to fetch the doctor.

One possibility is that it was a girl who lived near the sick woman.

However, the girl said it was her own mother who was sick. This means the girl must have been ghost of the daughter of the sick. The explanation is supported by the wet shoes and shawl, which the girl used to wear.

Why is chilly hot?

The presence of a kind of chemical capsaicin makes it hot. The amount of capsaicin makes it hot, less hot or more hot. The amount of capsaicin in capsaicin is very low so, it is not hot so we use it as vegetable.

Sweet things remove the hotness we get after having chillies. Why?

When we eat chillies, capsaicin spreads around our tongue. The saliva and the juice of the sweet things wash the chemical and we don’t feel so.

Our eyes feel burning sensation and tears come out when we chop an onion. Why?

In the inner layer of the onion, there is an evaporative compound named thayopropelin sulphur oxide which makes our eyes feel so as it has pungent taste and smell.

Why is it difficult to measure the volume of an uneven sized substance by formula?

We know that , the volume of any substance depends on the length(l) breadth(b) and height(h) of the same. But, in a case of an uneven sized substance, all the three components are irregular and uncertain. Therefore, the volume of such substance cannot be determined by using formula.

Why is it easier to swim in a sea than in a pond?

The density of the salted water of sea is greater than that of the water of a pond. So, due to the greater density, swimming in a sea will require lesser strength whereas, the lesser density of the water of a pond makes it difficult to swim. Thus, we can conceive the fact that to swim in a sea is easier than to swim in a pond.

When we suddenly enter the room from sunlight, it appears dark. Why?

The pupil in the eyes allows to enter the necessary quantity of light needed for us. It expands and contracts accordingly. In bright sunlight the pupil becomes smaller and when we suddenly enter the room, the smaller pupil can’t send necessary amount of light. So, till the pupil becomes bigger the room appears dark and we can’t see clearly.

Sometimes our stomach produces some sound. Why?

Generally our stomach produces some sound but we don’t hear because it is low. During the process of digestion food moves in our stomach and intestine. Sound is produced when food moves from stomach to intestine. Besides this, air enters the stomach with food or for any other reasons. This movement also produces sound. If this process is slow or fast, the sound is produced similarly and we hear the sound.

We feel lazy after we have meal. Why?

Digestive process in necessary after we have food. Different organs work more during this time. So, they need extra blood. At this time some parts of the blood is supplied to these digestive organs instead of going to brain. Deficiency of blood in brain makes us lazy.

Before eating we put a circular ring of water around our plates and bowls and a little amount of food is placed at a side. Why?

There are many tiny germs around us which we can’t see and small insects are on the ground. When we put water around our food they can’t cross the water and come ahead. Similarly, insects inside the ring and germs in the air hover on the food placed at the side and the hot food stuff in the plate remain safe.

Our head moves sideways and become loose when we feel sleepy. Why?

Our body becomes weary when we are in half-sleep. At this stage the power of controlling of the muscles becomes feeble. Therefore the muscles which help keeping the heavy head erect loose their control and can’t work. So our head moves side ways.

Babies sleep fast when we keep them in a cot and swing. Why?

Music, sucking or moving of the cot etc. repeated activities play a positive effect in child’s breathing. While baby sleeps in a cot the way it moves, the process of breathing increases. Babies should breath faster when there is harmony between the breathing and the movement of the cot. The baby finds itself in peace and sleeps. Therefore the baby sleeps quickly in a cot.

We use pillow while sleeping. Why?

The muscles at the neck stretch while we sleep. To remove the stress of the stretch a suitable pillow is needed. If the muscles at neck stretch the apophylias joint is affected. Therefore we use pillow while sleeping.

THE LOST DOLL

Maria Del Carmen was the daughter of Roberto and Rosa Soto. She was beautiful, bright, kind and loving. She was sick by birth. She could not recover her health and died at four. Almost everybody attended her funeral because they loved her a lot. A few days later, Rosa gave the clothes and playthings of Carmen to a priest of the nearby village. She did not think it was necessary to save them any longer because her doctor had already declared that she could not have child any more. But Roberto objected to what she had done with Carmen’s belongings. He was hopeful that God might offer him another child. However, she had forgotten to give Carmen’s doll to the priest. They looked for it everywhere in the house. They finally forgot the doll.

The Lost Doll

Rosa gave birth to the second child. They named the baby as Evengelina because it meant good news. She looked exactly similar to Carmen in the face and nature. But she was healthier than Carmen. Evengelina often said that she was sick a long ago. But Rosa replied that she has been healthy since her birth time.

One day when Rosa and her sister were talking, Evengelina entered the room. To see her, Rosa’s sister said that she looked like her sister. But Rosa pointed out that she was healthier than Carmen. To hear her mother, Evengelina said that she was sick a long time ago. In the meantime, her sister asked Rosa if they found Carmen’s doll that was missing. She replied that she did not find it. When Evengelina heard this, she said that she remembered where she had put the doll. She took both sisters by the hand and pointed to the stony ground under a tree. They dug up under the tree and found the doll. When they asked how she knew where she had put her doll, she replied that a priest came and prayed with his hand on her head. Then she fell asleep. A nice man woke her up by the hand. He didn’t allow her to take the doll with her. Then he helped her to put it under a tree. When she looked at her mother she saw a kind of sickness in her.

This is a story about reincarnation. Reincarnation is a belief that the soul or spirit of one body is reborn in another body. Evangelina is the reincarnation of Carmen. This explains why Evangelina “remembers” being sick, and why she knows where the lost doll was hidden.

A single person won't go through the same struggle again and again.

Decision-making can be regarded as the cognitive process resulting in the selection of a belief or a course of action among several alternative possibilities. Every decision-making process produces a final choice that may or may not prompt action. Decision-making is the study of identifying and choosing alternatives based on the values and preferences of the decision maker. One such process, proposed by Pam Brown of Singleton Hospital in Swansea, Wales, breaks decision-making down into seven steps:
1. Outline your goal and outcome.
2. Gather data.
3. Develop alternatives (i.e., brainstorming)
4. List pros and cons of each alternative.
5. Make the decision.
6. Immediately take action to implement it.
7. Learn from and reflect on the decision.

So, always when you are going to decide something, you need to pause and think for awhile and take the correct decisions.

Something you want for you to happen or something you need for yourself or anything you work for achievement probably needs HOPE. Its the key factor for everything you perform. Without hope, your performance is like earning money without any plans to spend it. So, your work needs some kind of hope for you. Hoping something of the same level of the work you perform in that level will make you a better worker. With low performance, you shouldnot hope for too much. It leaves you disappointed and you will feel like never working again. So, always keep hope, a target you need to gain with the level of performance you do. And, this will surely work.

The Reccuring Dream

Kimberly Clark is a young woman of twenty-five years old. She works in a large company in London. She sees a mysterious dream. It is mysterious because it is a dream about a person and a place, which are completely strange to her. It is also mysterious because it is a recurring dream. She has the same dream almost every night. The dream always starts on a country road. Kim stands on this road and sees a lane with a white fence and a hedge on its either side. At the end of the lane there is a little hill on which stands a small white cottage with green shutters. In the dream she walks up the lane and enters the cottage. She sees an old man sleeping. She goes near his bed but the man wakes up and sits up. When Kim opens her mouth to speak to him, she wakes up in her apartment in London.

The dream troubles her a lot. She has never seen such a house and such a man. And yet night after night she has the same dream. She talks to her friend, Janet Wilson, about the dream. Janet often finds her friend troubled by the dream. So, once she takes Kim to her parent’s farm in the countryside for a few days. Early morning they leave the city in Janet’s car. As the car takes the turn onto a country road, Kim sees the house of her dreams. She makes Janet stop the car and walks up to the house. On her knocking, an old man opens the door. It is the same old man that appears in her dreams. When she speaks to the old man she comes to know that the house is frequently haunted by a ghost. Kim asks who the ghost is. The old man says, “It is you.”

There are two common explanation of the story.
1. When Kim dreams, she sends her thoughts to the old man in the house. This means when Kim is dreaming, the old man thinks he is seeing a ghost.
2. When Kim dreams, her spirit leaves her body and visits the house of the old man. Kim’s spirit then appears to the old man in the form of a ghost.
