I've been working on our new store in Westbury, (Long Island) New York and have come across some great new items for the bath. Here are some of my favorite new bath accessories for 2016- can't wait to use them in some of the stores!

Some Photoshop Fun

About a month or so ago Jason did his November post with his "Christmas Card" photo. After several concerned texts about Lorelei's dangerous perch we mentioned in the next post that we would show you all what the photos really looked like pre-photoshop. Of course, things got busy and I forgot all about it until now. I was hoping to do a different post but I don't have time so for now this will have to do. We go home safe and sound yesterday afternoon but it has been quite crazy trying to get unpacked and organized. I forgot how disastrous the house can get when trying to unpack, especially when you have two little helpers. Fortunately we are just about done and so hopefully by tonight life can resume back to at least somewhat normal.

So, in the meantime, here is the original shot of Lola balanced on top of Jason's Jeep. As you can see, he is holding her nice and securely. It wasn't the best shot of her. It would have been a little easier to work with if her arms had been positioned a bit differently but it was all I had so we made it work.

I removed Jason's hands and the repositioned her arms and cloned in some areas on her shirt. To be honest, that part did take quite a bit of time to get it to look somewhat natural. Then once she was done we found a few pictures that Jason liked and just plopped her in them. After that I just added Florabella's Tea Time action (and a lens flare to the last two), and that was it!

Whew! I can't believe we are about to ring in a new year! Before we start off 2016 I thought I would do a little round-up of a few of my favorite posts from each month. Also, for those that may have wondered about our December donation, because of the amount of e-mails we received for nominations for our November donation we decided to split up both November and Decembers money and give it to several different families that were nominated. Starting next month we will go back to featuring another family or organization.

Let's get started with some of our favorite blog projects/posts from 2016:

January

In January we added a few new things in our kitchen. One one side of the island we added these buckets and basket:

and we painted the other side of our island to create a little chalkboard "wall".

and finally painted and put up curtains in our master bedroom (and painted some Euro Shams as well)

A Little Recap of 2016!

I haven't spent much time on my computer this past week but that's because I've been busy working away on another room in our house. First, I got all of our Christmas decorations put away (except for the paperwhites and a couple of wreaths) and then I got to work priming and painting the trim in our other extra bedroom and started on the walls. I am hoping to finish up the walls today and then I can start decorating. I am really excited about the bedding from Ballard Design that is going in that room! And I am on the hunt for a couple of things to add in there but hopefully will have lots of pictures to share soon. And then I am starting on our master bedroom. And our new light fixture for our entryway arrived late yesterday afternoon so I am hoping to get it out of the box and maybe even hung this afternoon. So, it may be a few more days but I should have lots to share with you soon! In the meantime I thought it would do a little obligatory year end wrap up for 2016. I chose a few of my favorite posts/projects from this past year:

I hope everyone had a wonderful Christmas hanging with family.

We are down in Rosemary beach with friends to celebrate NYE. [I hope no burglars are reading this]. It is something we have done for 9 years now so I guess it's a tradition.

I know I haven't done a Scott's post in a while cause I was starting to feel like there wasn't anything new, but I did take a stroll down there this month.

By now you all know I am a sucker for old bottles.

….I have quite the obsession with glass beads lately.

And then we segue right into old blue bottles!

I'll take this coffee table please.

I'm going to leave you with kind of a "Sherika" moment from the other day. I was packing to come down to the beach and opened my medicine cabinet to gather some things.

I glanced up on a shelf and saw my dry spray shampoo and thought I need some fluff to my hair right now! Grabbed the bottle…. threw my head upside down and started spraying it all over.

Then I noticed the smell….kind of citrusy.

At that moment I brought my head upright and looked at the bottle.

Spray sunscreen.

Crap.

Sucks to be me sometime.

Retro Bathrooms

I got a request from Fred in Des Moines for some ideas- he has a customer who wants a retro bathroom without black. I would suggest using our white subway tiles with either some glass or ceramic mosaics to infuse some color. Also- our glass subway tiles would be perfect for this! Just add a white hex floor- and you'll have a cool retro look.

If you want to simply use white subway on the walls and a white hex on the floor, Sherwin Wiilliams has a great "retro" paint color pallette to compliment the clean white (available at any Sherwin Williams store):

Our Christmas Adventure

Wow! We had quite the Christmas adventure! Just like last Thursday (when I did the post on our back porch decorated for Christmas), I am writing from a hotel room so this will be brief, but I wanted to pop in and share a few photos from our Christmas in Indiana. We had an absolutely wonderful time with Jon's family and I have to say I think it might have been one of my favorite trips I have ever taken to Indiana despite the fact that it turned out to be a bit more interesting than planned. We had a wonderful time visiting with all of Jon's relatives, ate tons of delicious food, including some divine hot cocoa that Jon's mom made which I am going to try to make at home sometime and if I do I will share with some links to the recipe, and oh yeah, spent some time at the hospital. There were 11 people that we celebrated Christmas with (Jon's mom and dad; his sister, Meredith; her husband, Matt; Matt's sister, Helen; Matt and Helen's parents, Al and Anita; and then of course, Jon, myself, Lillie and Lorelei) and everyone but me got the flu!

Yup, all of the other 10 got hit HARD. So hard in fact, that Matt and Lola ended up in the hospital. Needless to say that was a wee bit scary. So, although that probably seems like an awful Christmas I have to say I think we all still somehow managed to have a wonderful time. It was quite the bonding experience - haha! I think if anyone had walked into the house on one of the nights they might have passed out at just the sight of everyone. There were people sleeping on bathroom floors, living room floors and my poor mother-in-law was washing sheets and towels at 3 and 4 am just trying to keep up with everything, despite the fact that she herself was sick! And my poor father-in-law was stuck driving back and forth to the E.R. all night and morning. I am so grateful that I somehow escaped it because I don't know how else I would have been able to take care of poor Lillie and Lola.

Anyway, needless to say, I didn't take a whole lot of photos and most of the ones I did get were taken at night so they are pretty grainy. Here are a few:

We still have one more day left on our adventure. We made a short trip from Indiana to Ohio yesterday. We stopped at a high school game to watch a recruit on our way to the hotel. Then Jon dropped us off at the hotel and he traveled to Kentucky to watch another recruit. And then tonight, after William and Mary's game we will begin our journey back to Williamsburg. We have so much to get working on when we get back - ahhhhh! And I have some exciting news to share in a few days.

I also want to wish my beautiful Mom a very happy birthday today! I love you!

Yes I did not plan on taking a break but somehow it just happened. It is kind of like not going to the gym for a few days and then you realize you haven't been in a week and your jeans are tight!!!

Most responsible bloggers advise their readers that they may be taking a few days off....I was so rude and just took it with no advance warning........like an ill-mannered teenager.

So here I am with not much to share but a few updates on that renovation. These were taken on move in day. I will list all paint colors when I get home. Can you believe that I did not bring the file with me to the BEACH?????

Here is the front of the home.

The shutters and front door [along with the stair railings inside] are painted SW Iron Ore. Trim is white and the outside of the house is painted BM Creamy White. The portico was added.

Here is that wonderful carpet that I showed you.

It was a little expensive but since she really does not have a foyer....we needed a BAM when the door was opened!

I think it will be good with dirt also. I twisted her arm and threw her down on the floor until she agreed to get it. Don't mess with me if I get obsessed with something......:)

The back of the front door did get painted the same color.

Just popping in to say I hope you all had a wonderful Christmas! I have been working on our 2016 photo album and was editing some photos from earlier this month. I printed this one out and when my mom saw it she noted Lola had the same expression as a photo I'd taken of her when she was just a couple of months old. Sure enough, when I found it it was almost the exact same photo - just a year and a half later! It's funny to see how similar she looks in some ways and different in others. Her features are pretty much the same but her hair and eyes have lightened. And I think I can see a little more mischief in her eyes in the second photo... =)

AND.....a hearty Merry Christmas!

Don't the holidays seem to just go by in a wink? For a designer....it is a very busy time as everyone wants their home to look it's best for holiday parties and family. I kind of feel that sometimes I can't wait for them to be over so I can relax. BUT...then they are over and I have done no decorating in my own home :(

I completed my final install last week and it was another bedroom. This one started more than a few months ago....with new carpet and paint.

Here is a shot of the before.

Of course my suggestion was to lighten it up. We picked a Ben Moore color called Creamy White [OC-7]. It is a great neutral with a bit of "chalkiness" to it.

Here is the room after it was painted and new carpet.

So much brighter! You will notice 2 things in the picture. The first being a new headboard. Since all of the furniture [except the chair and ottoman] were staying, an inexpensive solution to all of the dark furniture was the Montgomery Upholstered Headboard by Pottery Barn. It came with a neutral linen fabric but my plan was to change it out.

The second thing we did was raise the ceiling fan. It was hanging so low and felt intrusive in the room. I think it made a big difference.

So now we have lightened up the whole mood of the room.

Here is a shot of my plan.

I ordered a chaise from Lee Industries. The blue fabric on the left side was chosen for the headboard and the bedskirt. The strip of off white for the custom curtains. Of course the rest were pillows.

I also ordered this chair for a corner.

I did a little accessory shopping at Homegoods. Oh yes...the fun part.

Here is a before picture of the curtains. After some thought I decided that I wanted to have one panel on each side that closed in the center. With a small chest on this wall I felt like it was too much fabric.

Hear it is again after being painted and of course that ceiling fan just begs to be in every shot!

I wish I had a better shot than this. You can see that the large armoire was removed and a dresser from another room was brought in. That helped with making the room seem much larger.

Just a simple pleat at the top....lined and interlined to give the light fabric some weight and the rings were hand sewn on. There is a wand to pull them closed.

I replaced the pillow that came with the chair with a custom one and added the touch of blue with the blanket.

From beige to blue. Since we had a lot of cream in the room it made sense to add some color.

I always try to vary the way I outline my pillows. The large shams have a flat cordless welt, the middle 2 pillows were purchased at PB and they have cording. I corded the stripe lumbar with the blue from the headboard fabric.

I love adding a darker blue with the blanket. It helps to use an accent color in a fairly monochromatic room in a couple of different shades.

Here are the egg pictures hung. Adding some bling with the mercury glass lamps. I was having a bad camera day.....every picture was dark so I tried to edit them with my limited skills....

We replaced the bulky chair and ottoman with this chaise. It takes up much less space and has a sleeker more modern look.

Here is the before picture of this side of the room. Hello ceiling fan...your time in the spotlight is almost over sucker !

I think it is important not to over accessorize a bedroom.....Also notice that the ceiling fan is now up where it belongs :)

So...on to 2016. My first project is the Inspiration House that opens on Jan 26th. Lori and I have been very busy preparing for this room. I will be sharing pictures along the way.....

Merry Christmas! I hope you all had a blessed Christmas Eve and woke up to a beautiful Christmas morning. I don't have any photos to share yet of our morning but I do have a few from last week when Jon and I did our little Christmas with the girls before heading to Indiana. Both girls were wide-eyed with excitement and it was so much fun watching them. Lillie was so thrilled to open her gifts and Lola was in heaven trying to eat all the wrapping paper. We did our Christmas with them at night so these pictures are pretty grainy but I was happy to get one of each of them actually looking in the general direction of the camera and a couple of them together.

And here is our Christmas card. I was so behind this year.

I got most of them out last week but still have a few left to send when we get back to Virginia!

Merry Christmas Everyone! I hope you all are having a wonderful Christmas Eve! We have had busy last few days. We had a wonderful time in Chapel Hill and then a nice easy flight up to New Hampshire where we had a great time last night at Jamie and Josh's Christmas party. I went over yesterday morning and Jamie and I finished decorating her's and Josh's home for their Christmas party. Here are some photos. (I showed some pictures of her dining room that we did last time I was here in a previous post so I won't repost any of those to keep this post from getting too long!)

And here is their entryway which is my absolute FAVORITE but was impossible to find a good spot to stand in to photograph it. I think I need a wider lens for spots like this. These photos don't begin to show what it really looks like. I am so incredibly jealous of her new mirror!

And here is their newly finished breakfast nook. Josh made the table!

We also had a lot of fun in Chapel Hill on Tuesday although the game against Carolina didn't go quite like we would have liked =(. Lillie didn't seem to mind though, seeing how we sat directly behind the players and she could basically poke them all night long! =)
