Internet connections can be finicky sometimes, especially on older browsers and computers. Depending on what hardware and software configuration the file downloader is using, a file download can be interrupted. Even screen savers and aggressive power save modes can potentially derail a file download. When the user realizes that their download has stopped, they find that they have lost their progress and must start the download all over.

Fortunately, resuming interrupted file downloads has been made available for SendThisFile personal file transfers.

Our latest system update gives user’s file recipient the ability to resume an interrupted file download right from where they left off! When very large files are being shared, this can be a big relief, saving time and frustration.

Download Accelerator Compatibility

Download accelerator software can help users download files by splitting a file download into multiple segments and then downloading these segments simultaneously. Our latest system update has made our service compatible with download acceleration software. So now those of you who rely on download accelerators will be able to get the files you need.

Resuming Interrupted Downloads

A very popular request, resuming interrupted file downloads, is also now available. Previously, downloads that were interrupted due to a poor internet connection or aggressive power save modes and screensavers could not be resumed, forcing users to re-download a file from the beginning. With our latest system update, users no longer have to start the interrupted download over and may resume the file download right where they left off! This can be a big time saver.

We are happy to announce that these features are free and available today for all personal file sending customers. Please let us know in the comments how you like these changes.

The AES (Advanced Encryption Standard) is used to securely encrypt your uploaded files while they are temporarily hosted on our file server. Previously, we were using the already strong 128-bit encryption method.

To give you an idea of just how secure this is, it is over 2,000 times more secure than using 128-bit AES. To break it, a brute force attack would take 50 supercomputers over 3,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000 years!

Breaking a symmetric 256-bit key by brute force requires 2128 times more computational power than a 128-bit key. A device that could check a billion billion (1018) AES keys per second (if such a device could ever be made – as of 2012, supercomputers have computing capacities of 20 Peta-FLOPS, see Titan. So 50 supercomputers would be required to process (1018) operations per second) would in theory require about 3 X 10^51 years to exhaust the 256-bit key space.  [Wikipedia]

SendThisFile uses email notification to notify users about the status of their files. For example, when a file is ready or if a file has expired, SendThisFile can send an email to notify the user.

With branded emails, SendThisFile lets you completely control the level of branding customization that you desire. You can choose between plain text or HTML emails, modify the copy, and insert images and logos. You can even replace or remove SendThisFile branding completely!

To change your branded email options, sign-in and go to “Send Files,” then “Add Branded Email.” Create an email template, then click “Edit” to edit the customization options.

Custom email branding is available to Business, Enterprise, and Dedicated Server plan customers.

Did you know that transfer auto-resume allows you to resume interrupted file transfers?

Spotty internet connections, weak WiFi signals, power save modes, and even screen savers can interrupt your file uploads. This can be a big frustration since large file uploads can take a while, and not many people are willing to carefully monitor their upload progress.

With transfer auto-resume we have solved this problem!

Our new Enhanced Mode will allow you to resume interrupted transfers. Enhanced mode also brings other great features, including file compression, folder handling, drag-and-drop, and a great user interface.

Enhanced mode can be enabled under ‘Send Files‘ by clicking ‘Change to Enhanced View.’ You will be prompted to install a small Java applet to enable these functions.

Enhanced mode is a free update available to all SendThisFile customers.

In case you didn’t know, custom upload forms can be embedded on your company’s webpage to receive large files. If you are an Enterprise plan customer, we have added the ability for you to add custom input fields. For example, you can add a “customer account number” field, so users of the upload form have a place to enter in their account number.

You can add different types of fields too… including a pre-filled drop down box, text input field, and text input area. You even have the option to make the field required.

For seamless integration with your websites branding, you can change the size, color, and even modify the HTML code of the custom upload form for total control.
