SeniorHealthMemos.com is on a GoDaddy Auction that has 4 days left to run. It’s a great opportunity to buy a domain at much below the price that GoDaddy estimates it is worth. If that might be of interest, click here to access the auction.

Seniors represent an increasing share of the population. They’re living longer and they are more and more active. For the best quality of life, it is essential to have good health. Seniors actively search out every health issue to be sure they are making the right life decisions.

For this reason, the markets that serve their interests are growing strongly. SeniorHealthMemos.com is a domain that can attract a good volume of commercial messages and advertisements. If you are looking for a new entrepreneurial opportunity, this could be an extremely good choice.

There is a “Secret” Reserve Price

Note that the auction has been set up with a reserve price. The extra information we can give you is that the reserve price is less than two-thirds of the GoDaddy estimated value of the domain. This means that even if your bid is not above the reserve price, at the end of the auction you may still get an opportunity to acquire the domain at an attractive price. If your bid is the highest bid or the only bid, you may be offered a counteroffer for you to accept or reject. This could mean a real bargain for you.

Long-term readers of this blog may be somewhat surprised to see the title of this post. For over 10 years they have been reading Senior Health Memos at this domain. Where will readers now find the blog? Your browser will show you that the new address is shm.smmbc.ca.

Why Has Senior Health Memos Moved?

The reason for the move is that SMMbc has a WordPress MultiSite Network. Several SMMbc blogs already exist on that Network. However, given the press of events, three had remained out of the fold. These were The Other Bloke’s Blog, BPwrap and the Senior Health Memos Blog. There are many efficiencies possible when all are within the network but lack of time had prevented this in the past. The moves are now on.

What Were The Challenges?

To be frank moving a WordPress blog into a MultiSite Network is surprisingly easy. There is much good advice on How to Move a Single WordPress Site into a Multisite. With just a few simple steps you can have your blog running within the Network in a fraction of an hour.

One of the Tools in WordPress is the Export tool. In this, you select All Data and click the Download Export File button. WordPress will then create an XML file and download it to your computer. You then upload this file to the new site you have created in the Network. You may need to tweak a few small details but it largely works as it should.

What is not mentioned is that the XML file has a maximum size of 1 MB. The full data for this blog was about 8 MB. Some major pruning was required.

What Has Changed?

The solution adopted was to retain only the most recent blog posts. Older posts and the associated images were deleted until the XML Export file was just under 1 MB. The transfer then took place without incident.

Once the blog was running as it should in its new home, the original blog was deleted. A Redirection was created between the old domain and the new location. It is also possible to Update Google on this redirection. This should maintain search visibility in Google results while the Redirection is in place. Hopefully, in a few days or weeks, this Redirection can be dropped and the domain released for sale.

Where Can I Buy The SeniorHealthMemos.Com Domain?

If you use the GoDaddy Domain Name Value & Appraisal tool, you will find that the SeniorHealthMemos.com domain is quite valuable. You can easily think of a number of businesses that would find this domain would work well as an identifier. Who knows who will find it fits, since seniors may well be suffering from a variety of health concerns.

If you are interested, the domain is listed on both the Afternic and Sedo domain auction websites. Afternic is a GoDaddy subsidiary. This post will be updated once the sale and transfer have been completed.

Update

In addition to this domain, two other SMM domains are being sold. All three have been evaluated using the GoDaddy Domain Value Appraisal tool. The prices have been set accordingly.

You can buy any of the domains in Canadian dollars on GoDaddy. Here are the appropriate links:

Buying BPwrap.com Price – Can$ 1650.70

Buying OtherBB.com Price – Can$ 1961.42

Buying SeniorHealthMemos.com Price – Can$ 718.54

If you prefer to buy a domain in US dollars, then this is possible on the Afternic website (a GoDaddy subsidiary).

Buying BPwrap.com Price – US$ 1275

Buying OtherBB.com Price – US$ 1515

Buying SeniorHealthMemos.com Price – US$ 555

All three domains have been listed on the Sedo domain market place and you can find details by following this link.

We hope you will find one or more of these to your liking.

If you have a family member who needs a little extra care managing their chronic diseases, short-term medical needs or daily tasks, you may seek the services available for home care Massachusetts. Home care provides your loved ones with the care they need in their own homes, improving their quality of life. However, you want to hire the best agency for your family member.

Identify Needs

Your first step is to identify your loved one’s needs. For example, will non-clinical help suffice, or do you need either specialized clinicians or certified nurses? Does your family member need help with daily tasks, such as cleaning and meal preparation or medical issues, such as prescription management, therapies or care for medical diagnoses, including cognitive disorders. Will this care be long or short term? You can discuss these goals with your loved one’s physician and other care providers.

Do Some Research

If anyone you know among your friends or family members has had to hire home care, you should ask what company provided the care and their satisfaction level and why. You may also speak with medical professionals, including doctors, nurses and specialized clinicians about appropriate home care options. Social workers may also be valuable assets.

Then, you should do some research. For example, the Joint Commission evaluates both medical and nonmedical home care companies. You may also check with your local chamber of commerce and the Better Business Bureau for the care agencies’ ratings and any outstanding complaints. Find out if the care company is Medicare or Medicaid certified and completes an annual state inspection.

Contact the Company

You should identify the services each company offers and the prices of these services. For example, do they offer medical or nonmedical care? Is the company certified by Medicare and licensed by the state? Then, ask about the licensing and experience of their caregivers and their caregiver hiring process. Find out about their malpractice insurance and personnel policies, including their background checks. Consider discussing their personnel evaluation process.

You may also ask how long the company has been in business, and avoid companies with recent name changes. If your loved one’s native tongue is a language other than English, ask whether the company provides aides who speak this language.

You should learn whether the company’s services will be covered by Medicare or other insurance.

Learn whether the company works with your loved one’s insurance company or Medicare/Medicaid. Ask about their customer service policy. Discuss their communication methods and update policies.

Be an observer. How are you treated? Did the company representative listen carefully to your needs and ask questions?

Knowing all this, you can then be more at ease in arranging that your loved ones benefit from receiving their medical and non-medical care in their own homes.
Photo by Georg Arthur Pflueger on Unsplash

If you’ve ever had a dental infection, you know how excruciating the pain can be. A dental infection, or abscess, is the result of bacteria getting into your tooth and reaching the pulp. Dental infections are true emergencies and require immediate care. Here’s what you need to know when you awake to that unmistakable pain of an abscessed tooth.

Antibiotic Treatment

A dental abscess usually causes intense pain and can also create massive swelling resulting from a build-up of pus. It’s crucial to make an appointment with specialists like those in emergency dentistry Windsor Terrace for prompt treatment. A dental infection won’t disappear by itself and can be dangerous if not treated. The first step will be to eliminate the infection through a course of antibiotics. In a few days, you’ll return to the dentist for the next step.

Root Canal or Extraction

When the infection clears up, you’ll need to make a choice between a root canal or extraction. A root canal, or saving the tooth, is preferred over extraction. However, there are times when the removal of a tooth is a good solution. If the tooth is far enough back where it’s out of sight and the root canal would be costly, extraction is a good option.

Removal of Decay

If you’ve decided on a root canal, you’ll be able to save the tooth and it will look just like one of your own upon completion. Root canals are not much more than getting a filling and shouldn’t be feared. They’re much quicker than in prior years and are completely painless. A doctor will numb the area, remove the nerve and decay, and disinfect the tooth. The canals will then be filled and sealed.

Dental Crown Placement

Getting a crown is the last step of a root canal. First, an impression of your teeth will be made and the dentist will advise you on what material will be the best for your crown. The original tooth will be prepared and the crown cemented on. It’s virtually impossible to tell the difference between a crown and a real tooth.

Always Seek Dental Care

No one knows when a dental infection may occur, but if you are experiencing one, the symptoms are hard to miss. Never ignore a dental infection as it won’t heal on its own. Getting to your dentist for an emergency visit as soon as possible is your best bet for alleviating the pain and saving the tooth.

The whole world has been completely upset by the coronavirus pandemic. This is now disrupting life in most countries of the world. No vaccine has yet been identified and the process of supplying an active vaccine will be long and arduous. Covid-19 is particularly dangerous because it is easily transmitted even by those who may not exhibit symptoms. When infected, for some it can be a deadly experience. The only effective protection at the moment is to wear a mask and practice social distancing. Unfortunately, this helpful advice is being disregarded by many.

Covid-19 Will Be Here for Some Time

The current expert view is that any vaccine that may be developed will only be partially effective. it will also undoubtedly be the case that not all members of the population will accept this vaccine. It may even require two injections which will provide a further inhibitor for some. For these reasons, the pandemic is likely to be around for some years. This makes wearing a mask and practicing social distancing even more critical. Yet some believe this infringes on their liberty.

Here we will explore the reasons why some wear masks and suggest a reason not often discussed that may be more persuasive.

Health Experts Advise Us to Wear Masks and Be Socially Distant

For some, the fact that Health experts promote wearing masks and being socially distant is a sufficient reason to adopt these practices. However, there is a proportion of the population that distrusts any expert. Merely repeating the experts’ advice will not change their minds.

Masks Protect You from Others

Washing your hands will protect you from any coronavirus that may exist on surfaces you touch. However, it is believed that this coronavirus is often transmitted through the air. Wearing a mask will ensure with a good probability that you do not breathe in such airborne coronavirus. Some will find this argument persuasive.

Masks Protect Others from You

It appears that some 40% of those who have been infected with the coronavirus may not exhibit symptoms. Nevertheless, they are capable of transmitting the coronavirus to others. If you have a social conscience, this should be a strong argument for you wearing a mask in case you could be one of these asymptomatic individuals with the coronavirus.

Masks Flatten the Curve

One argument you will hear is that wearing a mask and practicing social distancing will flatten the curve. Unless you are mathematically inclined, this may not suggest any reason why you should adopt these practices. There are several curves involved here: number of people infected, hospitalizations, number in ICUs and regrettably deaths. As these curves grow explosively, they inflict dreadful pressures on the health system and on the families of those who pass away. Clearly, society as a whole must find solutions but any given individual who has not been infected may feel it is someone else’s problem.

Masks Keep You Healthy Longer

Any one of the previous arguments has merit but may not be sufficiently persuasive to any given individual. Let’s find a different way of explaining what is happening.

We are all in the grip of a pandemic. That means we all will likely in the long-term be infected at some time or other. There are many advantages in trying to ensure that this happens later rather than sooner for each one of us. Here are some of the advantages:

The medical world is learning more about this coronavirus, Covid-19, all the time. In the future, they will have better ways of looking after anyone who is infected with this.

If we are sick when everyone else is, then this will possibly overwhelm the hospitals.

At some time, it may well be that therapeutic medicines will be available to aid recovery.

Eventually, a vaccine may be found that will help to protect us from this coronavirus.

For all these reasons it is better to stay healthy as long as possible. The best way of doing this is to wear a mask, practise social distancing and wash your hands frequently.

A Healthier You Helps Your Community

Another powerful reason for staying healthy is that this means you’re not a burden on your community. A pandemic puts a huge strain on the community. Staying healthy is the least you can do to help.

Even more important, is that as you wear your mask you will remind others that it is important for them to do the same. In that way, you will be creating a healthier community for everyone. If we all do it, we all stay healthier.

Everyone makes mistakes. It is part of the human condition to inadvertently do something wrong from time to time. Running late for work may cause a careless moment behind the wheel and a stop sign is missed. Overindulgence at an office party may result in an expensive ticket for driving under the influence. The distractions of a demanding job could lead to neglect of personal relationships. Some of these mistakes may go by without being noticed. Others may result in a judge requiring an online drug and alcohol course. The point is that mistakes happen, and they result in various consequences. Is this all bad? Or, can something good come from such an experience?

Regardless of where mistakes happen, if addressed properly, they can result in positive outcomes. Maturing is a process and errors, large and small, play an important part in that process. The challenge is to realize what happened, handle the consequences, learn the lessons and change behaviors. Incredibly, these simple ideas elude the grasp of many adults. The unfortunate result is that many of them get stuck in repeating the same mistakes over and over with sometimes catastrophic outcomes.

Recognizing a Mistake

Denial and rationalization are powerful psychological habits that may cause people to endlessly refuse to see their own mistakes. One of the first requirements of growing from a bad situation is to stop avoiding responsibility or blaming others. Acknowledging the mistake and taking a look at it is the beginning of finding something good in an otherwise uncomfortable time.

Accepting the Consequences of Mistakes

Choices and behaviors affect other people and sometimes create big problems. Once a person has gotten past accepting their mistake the next reasonable action is to address whatever damage it has caused. Part of that process is to do what is required to try and make things right again. This could be as simple as a sincere apology. Other times more is required in the way of amends or repairing damage.

Learning Lessons from Mistakes

Analyzing a situation in which a mistake has been made takes self-discipline. It is tempting to try and shift blame or hide behind excuses. But an honest review of an error can yield handsome rewards. Insights gleaned can uncover motives that need a closer examination or dysfunctional beliefs that need to be changed.

Changing Behavior to Avoid Mistakes

Acknowledging a mistake, facing consequences and learning lessons are all fruitful activities. Going one step further by incorporating lessons learned and changing future behavior is even better. When adopted as a routine discipline this leads to steady improvements in relationships and self-respect.

Avoiding mistakes rather than making them is preferred when possible. When a mistake is made though, recognizing the opportunity to grow and mature can make the best of a bad situation.

Most people don’t know when or how the coronavirus pandemic will end. Unfortunately, this feeling of uncertainty causes them to feel a sense of dread. Several people are starting to ask important questions about the economic state of their community and how they’ll be able to protect their own savings. Simply telling someone they shouldn’t worry doesn’t genuinely reduce the person’s anxiety. There are three other tips that are more conducive to well-being.

Calm Down and Breathe

Only a few people think about the way they breathe. However, deep breathing affects physical health, ultimately changing how they respond to stress. Deeper breathing helps slow down the sympathetic nervous system, which significantly triggers a person’s fight-or-flight response. This instinctive response prevents people from thinking more rationally. They’re more likely to be driven by fear and desperation in dangerous situations. By regulating your breathing, you’re able to tune into your own feelings and maximize your focus, giving yourself more time to think. By making outdoor exercise a priority, people are able to naturally breathe more deeply. It will make your body feel better.

Limit Exposure to Media

It may not be realistic to completely limit your usage of social media. However, reading every update isn’t always necessary. It’s more preferable to rely on news coverage that provides an impartial or sympathetic perspective on current issues. Social media updates or soundbites inspired by negativity naturally increase your anxiety. Reading each constant update can distract you from completing necessary tasks that make your life easier. This can spiral into addiction and prevent you from staying productive or reaching out to others for communication. However, it’s beneficial to use social media if it helps you avoid contact with public devices.

Get Good Sleep at Night

In today’s digital age, people have neglected the need for good sleep. Getting plenty of rest at night ultimately boosts your immune system and lowers the risk of disease. The consequences of getting little to no sleep are often understated. Insomnia promotes shallow breathing and increases your heart rate, while also making it more difficult for you to concentrate on various tasks that require rational judgment. Staying in a good mood ultimately reduces a person’s chance of suffering from a panic attack, which could cause a variety of uncomfortable symptoms.

The pandemic has unquestionably introduced different challenges that impact everyday life for many families trying to pay down their mortgage and keep their children well-fed. A person should be able to practice habits that promote a sense of happiness and peace in spite of mass uncertainty. This places someone in a better position to make crucial decisions that can lower everyone’s susceptibility to fear and dread.

Mesothelioma is preventable, but you need to educate yourself about where asbestos could be hiding. Being aware of potential asbestos locations can help you prevent asbestos exposure. During the 20th century, a lot of manufactured products had asbestos added to them. Many of these products are still in homes and offices. People who work in shipyards, power plants, chemical plants, railroads, and auto shops may still be exposed to asbestos regularly.

For years, these workers and the general public had no idea that asbestos could cause malignant mesothelioma. Some companies even chose to hide the potential hazards of asbestos. However, today, many people understand the danger, especially those who work in fields that traditionally used asbestos. Read on to learn more about how you can prevent exposure to asbestos in your life.

Prevention at Work

In the early 1970s, OSHA implemented regulations to protect workers from asbestos exposure. Currently, OSHA requires the air at worksites to be tested and asbestos particles to be kept below .1 fibers per cubic centimeter. There are other specific requirements for the general industry, the construction industry, and the shipyard industry.

Although awareness has increased in recent years, some employers may still not be taking the proper steps to ensure worker safety. Therefore, workers must take precautions around asbestos and report any unsafe conditions to OSHA. If you need more information on asbestos exposure or filing a claim against a company, visit asbestos.net.

If you are tasked with removing asbestos. Remember to follow proper safety procedures. Do not perform asbestos work if you are not properly trained and certified. If you lack proper training, it is best to leave removal to the professionals.

Prevention at Home

Anyone performing renovation work on a home built before 1980 should take precautions. The only way to tell if your home has asbestos in its construction materials is to have a sample tested at a certified lab. Harmful exposure in the home often occurs when renovations release asbestos dust into the air. Concealed asbestos materials are safe if they are undisturbed, but cutting, sawing, sanding, scraping, and drilling into them can create a health risk. You also need to watch out for asbestos materials that have become brittle over time. These are particularly dangerous because they can break and release asbestos pieces into the air.

Avoiding asbestos exposure is crucial to staying safe from mesothelioma. Remember to take preventative measures at work and home to properly protect yourself.

The novel coronavirus pandemic has been going on for several months now, but there is no sign that it is almost over. As you figure out how to create a new sense of normalcy, you must balance your desire to maintain your financial security and mental health with the need to stay healthy. If you’re unsure how to promote your community’s health, follow these tips.

Assume That You Can Pass and Catch the Virus

Some people trick themselves into thinking that they’re immune to the virus or that they can’t give it to anyone else. However, there is no conclusive evidence that you are immune to the virus even if you have already had it. Make things easier on people with public health jobs and those with underlying health issues, and act with the awareness that you can get sick and make other people sick.

Understand the Cost of Hospital Admittance

If you are healthy and relatively young, you might assume that even if you become sick, you’ll recover quickly. Unfortunately, there are no guarantees with the novel coronavirus. While some people display no symptoms or feel as if they have colds, others experience pneumonia and must be placed on ventilators at the hospital. Medical facilities do not have unlimited access to ventilators and other key supplies, and many hospitals are understaffed right now. Doctors and nurses are working intense shifts, and if you become sick because of careless behavior, you complicate their lives and work decisions.

Support Virus Research

For some people, taking action to prevent spreading the virus is not enough; they need to take concrete steps to eradicate the virus themselves. If you want to help address issues with the medical world’s handling of the virus, learn more about becoming a nurse or another medical expert. If going back to school isn’t in your plan, sign up for one of the many studies taking place right now. Many of these essential research efforts can be completed from your home.

Wear Your Mask

Perhaps the simplest and most essential piece of advice to slowing the virus’s spread is also the most controversial. Many people do not want to wear masks because they do not think they are effective or because they don’t like the feeling of having fabric across their faces. While masks can be uncomfortable, they are also your greatest tool for stopping the virus. Most retailers have cloth masks for sale, or you can make your own if you know how to sew. Avoid purchasing paper masks, since they generate waste and should be reserved for healthcare providers. Finally, don’t use gaiters or bandanas, as research suggests that they are not effective at preventing the virus’s transmission.

Everyone wants the pandemic to end so that the world can go back to normal. While that may happen one day, for now, you must adjust to the new circumstances. As you figure out how to move forward, keep these tips in mind to help healthcare providers in their efforts to end the virus.

These are very unsettling times. We are all unsure about what may be lurking outside our doors. It is particularly unsettling for those who may be vulnerable to the effects of the Coronavirus. Many of these are seniors so this is a concern for them and for their caregivers. We all look forward to the time when things may return to normal.

Covid-19 Will Be With Us for Some Time

Unfortunately, all the health experts suggest that this state of affairs may persist for some time. Here is how one BBC article discusses this:

New computer modelling research from Harvard University, which has yet to be published in an academic journal, warns that it may be necessary for intermittent social distancing measures to be maintained into 2022 in the US unless other interventions such as vaccines, drug therapies and aggressive quarantine measures can be put into place. This is because while a one-off period of social distancing might delay the peak of the outbreak until later this year, there is likely to be a resurgence in cases towards the end of the year if the virus shows some seasonal variation.

If this forecasting is correct, it is best to regard the current situation as the new normal.

We Must Stay Connected

One of the most critical factors for any human being is their ability to connect with others. Without this, they may feel really depressed and indeed may suffer from clinical depression. Staying connected can be a particular problem for those living in senior residential care homes. For some seniors, this presents particular difficulties:

Among them are older adults with dementia (14% of those 71 and older), hearing loss (nearly two-thirds of those 70 and older) and impaired vision (13.5% of those 65 and older), who can have a hard time using digital devices and programs designed without their needs in mind.

Ways of Staying in Touch

The ideal way for people to stay in touch is when they can both see and hear the other party. It is even better when you can arrange that different members of the family participate from their homes. There are a variety of group video chat apps that can be used. Here are some of the best-known.

Facebook Messenger: Best for Facebook Fans. …

FaceTime: Best for iPhone & Mac Users. …

Google Meet: for Web-Based Video Calling. …

Zoom – for Web-based Video Calling

Houseparty: Best for Mobile Socializing. …

Microsoft Teams: Best for Large Groups and Organizations. …

Skype: Best for Loads of Features and Platforms.

Each one of these has advantages and disadvantages but all are relatively easy to use. The best choice may be limited by what devices the various group members have. The other factor to take into account is that all of them are in a constant state of Improvement as their owners attempt to outmatch the competition

Keep it Simple – Google Meet

Unless the organizer of the family get-together has a strong preference, it is better to go with something that is simple and likely to work well for all. Google Meet Is a strong contender. Anyone can join in through a web browser. However, the organizer of the event must have a Google account, which is free. You can have up to 100 people in the group and the meeting can last up to 1 hour. This should be sufficient for all your connection needs. Any questions you may have can be easily answered in the Google Help Support

How to Set up Your Google Meet Get-together

If you wish to organize a family get-together like this, then you must have a Google account. It is very easy to create such an account. This is completely free. You can then go to the Google Meet website at https://meet.google.com/ and you will find it is very straightforward to create your own meeting. You then have a URL link you can send to family members to invite them. That meeting is available to you on a continuous basis provided you use it within 90 days.

We encourage you to add any comments you may have on this choice. If you need more information then why not contact us.
