Its interesting how time flys away. Recently I started my new blog www.bloghacker.net and even wrote some nice mini series for adding video to blogger blogs. But just when a new series was about to start I got stuck in some other work and its more then one week since I last checked the site. I am planning to add some nice Blogger beta templates to my blog. But its going to take some time.

UP Minister caught travelling without ticket; fined Rs 14k

Uttar Pradesh Minister Haji Yaqoob Qureshi,Minister of State for Haj, was caught travelling allegedly without proper ticket in a train last night, railway officials said on Saturday.

"The minister, travelling by Lucknow Mail along with some supporters in AC-1 coach, allegedly failed to produce his ticket during a checking near Alamnagar station on the city outskirts," officials said. He was fined Rs 14,000.

armed men threat near atomic plant

India police began hunting two armed men who were spotted in the vicinity of the Kakraper Atomic Energy Center in western India Tuesday, India local media reported.

Brijesh Kumar Jha, a local police officer said,"We have sealed the power plant and the entire area around it, but we have no indication or clue about these people."

S. K. Jain, chairman of India’s Nuclear Power Corporation, said there were double-layer fences and electrical security devices inside the complex. “I can assure you nothing will go wrong,” he said.

Festival of India opens its arms

Since 1993, the Festival of India has celebrated traditional foods, fashions and culture. But this year, organizers sought to go mainstream, inviting performers that crossed cultures and exhibits that crossed generations.

"We wanted to bring bigger awareness and more communities outside the Indian community," said Yogi Chugh, vice president of the Festival of India. "India is where we were born, but America is our home."

Organizers estimated that about 50,000 people attended the two-day festival, held in a lot near Lake Elizabeth. That's a significant leap from the 5,000 it attracted 13 years ago.

US House passes nuclear deal bill 359:68

219 Republicans voted in favour of the bill and just nine against; on the other side of the aisle, 58 Democrats voted in favour of the bill and a thumping 140 against (an Independent Congressman voted in favour).

"The passage of the Bill authorising the US Administration to engage in full civil nuclear energy cooperation between India and the US, by a large margin of bipartisan votes in the US House of Representatives, demonstrates the broad political consensus in the US in promotion of the Indo-US relations in all fields including in the field of civil nuclear energy cooperation," External Affairs Ministry spokesman Navtej Sarna said.

"We must, nevertheless, await finalised text of the legislation which will emerge after a Senate vote and the reconciliation of the two Bills, before we are able to comment on its contents," he said.

Sarna said "there are concerns that we have conveyed to the US to ensure that the final legislation must not deviate from the parameters of the Indo-US Joint Statement of July 18, 2005 and the Separation Plan."

Countering the ongoing agitation against reservation in premier educational institutions, several activists took out a demonstration in the Capital in favour of quota, saying it was the only way to ensure quality education of poor students.

"Reservation for OBCs is justified. It will facilitate the poor students get quality education," Convenor of OBC Mahapanchayat, Chattar Singh said.

"The poor students are lagging behind because they do not have access to quality education. They fail to afford it. Given good education, they will deliver like others," he said.

As medical students and junior doctors continued their protests in Delhi, Bihar, Rajasthan, Gujarat, Goa, Tripura, Madhya Pradesh and other states, pro-reservation bodies like the OBC Mahapanchayat joined the fray and staged rallies in support of the proposed quota, saying it was the only way to ensure quality education for poor students.

Resident doctors in Delhi's hospitals continued their indefinite strike for the fourth day, demanding the immediate rollback of the quota proposal. With medical services in the capital hit badly, the Delhi government issued notices to junior doctors to rejoin duty or face action.

And it is not as if we are unmindful of the fact that a section of the people, or the students, feel that something is being taken away from them...I would like to dispel that impression. We are seriously considering all the options that could give help to those sections of the people or the community who have at the moment acquired a certain stake in the entire thing,” he said replying to supplementaries during the question hour. Mr Singh said that reservations were a commitment of the Parliament, which had passed the 93rd amendment to the Constitution in December ’05, and that it was “irrevocable”.
