Twitter profile pages are increasingly indexed by Google and given a high PR quickly especially as others with many followers Retweet your tweets.  I am quite shocked by this, as the PR value of 6 on my Twitter profile caught me off guard.  But this is not suprising as all of the interlinking that is inherent in the Twitter system.  The profile name is the key as it goes in the Title tag for Twitter, so that is what you will get ranked high for, not necessarily your posts on Twitter.  So be clear that you choose proper and most searched keywords on your profile name and your posts.  As always, if you are not using proper keywords, you are just wasting your time!

faceBook to me is mainly a personal social network, but it still has a significant value to Google for rankings as it’s very hard to be a spammer on fB.  fB is also great for setting up Fan Pages and Group pages to grow your network rapidly for your viral marketing efforts.  So I definitly recommend it for all of your SEO and Social marketing efforts.

This blog is quickly becoming too long, especially if I want to follow my own advice.  Please feel free to read hundreds of great articles on how to write better blogs for SEO.  I don’t spend much time blogging here, as I am mostly interested in Twitter, but I am trying to SEO for a friends “Yoga Clothing” and “Om T Shirts” site.   They are not even launched yet, but are very good friends of mine.  They are trying to make 100% organic Yoga Clothes but with start with Yoga T shirts first with an emphasis on the sacred symbol Om.  Om is a sanskrit word for Universal God and is thought to be similar to the word Amen.  It is also considered to represent the Holyspirit as in the Christian tradition.

As mentioned above I am doing this blog post, not just to keep my Marketing book relatively fresh, which I care about but not that much.  I care more about supporting my friend’s Om Yoga Clothing line with Om T shirts and a full line with Mens Yoga clothing and women’s Yoga clothing coming soon.  They tell me that these products will be 100% organic, made in the USA and with great design.  I can’t wait to see them, and buy an Om T Shirt, I hope you support them by visiting their site, Thanks!

So what is up with Om Yoga Clothing and mentioning Yoga clothing in a marketing blog?  Well nothing, except for that Yoga clothing is one of the top 10 keywords for Yoga.  Yoga as you know is every where now days, well in Seattle and in major cities of the world.  So our friends in Olympia have decided to start a Yoga clothing company and I am helping them SEO their site.  They are starting out with Om T Shirts first, all made from Organic materials.  The site is barely up and they have asked me to help them early on, so I am not going to go on an on about how wonderful their Om Yoga Clothing is.  They are wonderful people and I met them through a community of Yoga meditation gathering.   More on that later…

PS, just turned on the FIT tv on DirectTV, Namaste Yoga is on.  These women have the most beautiful Yoga Clothing on.  It’s no wonder that LuLulemon the #1 leader in Yoga clothing is based out of Vancouver BC, same as the namaste yoga show:-).  Vancouver is a very stylish city if you have never been, you must visit this gem in North America!

Anyway, I helped a friend with her website launch in the last week about Akashic Records.  The site is actually called http://InspiredWellnessIntl.com  I will try to blog about it in the next few days and SEO it to help her get business.    She had signed up for GoDaddy’s Website Tonight service, for non-techies, I do recommend it.  It also has a very good SEO ability, because it does allow you to customize Meta tags etc for each page.  It’s also super easy to use with lots of beautiful templates.

Now, it’s not a common thing that people are blogging or Twittering about a Seattle Gutters guy, but I have blogged about him before.  Ben use to live behind me, and is one of the smartest guys I know.  He knew that I SEOed MyTypes.com, and Twittered.  He also SEO’ed his own website SeattleRainGutters.com and he is #1 on Bling.com for the keyword “Seattle Gutters” and #3 on Google for “Seattle Gutters“, not to mention #1 for “Seattle Rain Gutters“.   He has actually told me that he gets a lot of business from his website and Google searches.  So Seattle area residents I highly recommend Ben Hawes and SeattleRainGutters.com.

This fast and update of information is really the key to Twitter’s success. And, it’s search functionality in my opinion will/could surpass Google’s influence. Three things to do on Twitter to be successful, also remember, you should have be blogging on your own site or URL to link to from Twitter:

1. Search for interests or hobbies you truely care about.
2. Read the posts and follow everyone you like, even people with thousands of followers
3. Post a lot, reply to their links, but with meaningful information, and you will get Followers!

It’s important that you are compassionate and kind as you develop a social community. You will develop a following, but you must spend significant time Tweeting, to really be effective. The one dimensional IM style live blogging of Twitter has gotten in the way for me.  But, I am starting to become a believer and many other online marketers and business people are definitly seeing similar evidence.  In fact some internet marketing people from Amex and Dell have seen an ROI on their Twitter efforts.  Check the link to the following article just published in Media post, below is an excerpt:

“My personal favorite example comes from American Express, specifically its OPEN Forum. The OPEN Web site combines professional editorial, consumer-generated content and product marketing. To tap Twitter, American Express co-opted the popularity of its guest bloggers like Seth Godin, John Battelle and, in particular, Guy Kawasaki, (who wrote about Twitter on the OPEN Forum site just last week ).

Analyzing the traffic patterns of the OPEN Forum Web site reveals some great data. Every time Kawasaki posts a blog to the site, traffic doubles. Looking at daily traffic patterns since the beginning of the year, nearly every peak in visitation to the site corresponds to a post from Kawasaki. This is significant for a site that is already averaging over two hundred thousand visits each month.

So how is American Express promoting this great content - banner ads? SEM? SEO? None of the above. Instead, the brand relies on Kawasaki’s existing Twitter celebrity, knowing that his tweets reach over 100,000 followers, who will then retweet the post to their followers. You notice that in the examples the website or communities talk about blogging and the onslaught of traffic after each post.  While Twitter and faceBook are hot ways to generate traffic.  The end result should still be providing great content and a destination for your community to visit and get value on a regular basis.  The more we focus our community to a specific niche of targeted content the better.  Fresh or current content is not only king or sticky as we use to stay in the earlier internet era, it equals community if provided via blogging or social marketing.   People often ask me how often should I blog or update content to my site, I say for blogs it’s optimal to blog 2-3 times a week, and once a week is paramount.  For websites, it’s important to update on a weekly basis, and it’s often made easier by adding summaries of blogs.  So keep blogging and you will always get customers and traffic.  The key is to do it with a smart SEO, Search and Social marketing focus.  For all the basics on everything you need to know and do on SEO, Search and social marketing, especially blogging, download our Marketing Book.
