Goodbye Felt Bikes, hello Flatware - The Recap

I felt like I needed to do give something back. Sport Import - with Felt and now Flatware - had such a big impact on my whole life. And still will be. BIG THANKS Bodo, you are awesome!!!

Really, making the switch from Felt Bikes to Flatware is not such a big deal as you might think. I am still riding for the german distributor Sport Import and just switched brands internally. But I feel like most of you do not think Felt is kind of a cool brand and I must strongly disagree! I thought about this for the past few weeks and want to give you a quick rundown of all the good times I had with Felt.

Travelling (to Japan)

Travelling is always good and I'll still continue to travel. But it is even better if you are getting your travel expenses paid. I went to all kinds of countries around Europe, but also had the chance to go to Japan for the KOG Final 2007 in Tokio. This was definitely one of the craziest travelling experiences I ever had, so big thanks for that, Felt!

Signature Team Frame

Felt always made Signature Frames for their team riders. I always liked the fact that they made a small batch just for us plus selling the rest of it. They never had the intention of making money with it. As a result, you'd get a durable frame for a reasonable price. I never destroyed one, even though I rode a Street with it... In 2011, I teamed up with World Champ homie Michael Sommer and we came up with the Darchor frame. I even beat Mathias Dandois with my protoype at the Carhartt Game of Skills in 2010 ;-)

Most hardcore sessions

This may not be related to my sponsors, but I also had an indoor spot at our own BMX Shop between 2010 and 2012. This was by far the most productive time riding hardcore Flatland. I always liked the creativity in Flatland and I am very proud of all that, especially the Halfpacker to x-footed Halfpacker switch (which also destroyed my back) and all those x-handed stuff (boomerang, yeah!)

In the media

This sounds like work and sometimes it was. But travelling to Mallorca, Spain for a photo shoot in the winter cannot be a bad thing. And being on the cover of FreedomBMX magazine for a massive interview, can't be either. Only 7 Flatlanders in 100 issues made it on the cover!

What's next? - Back to the roots!

This all may sound a little bit like retiring but it is not. I love my new Tango frame, that thing is awesome and fits my current state of riding perfectly. I even rode it tonight! Plus - and more important - I am happy to pass the opportunity to travel to one of the younger riders. I even told Bodo (Hellwig - TM) that I would completely quit, but he'd refuse. How cool is that??? All I can say is another BIG THANKS for the past 11 Years!!!

Riding wise, I am still working hard to fix my back right now. Back then, I pushed my self to much, especially when it came to riding hardcore Flatland. When my indoor spot got torn down, I started to take things a little bit easier. Riding whatever I want whenever I want became key. But never mind, expect some shaky styles at some comps in 2014!

Bosch eBike Commercial for 2014

Only a few of my friends know that I am also working as a "model" for an agency. My latest job involved some mountainbike riding. But that wasn't just a mountain bike. It was a full suspension ebike with the newest Bosch e-system. I never rode an ebike before, nor did I ride single trails on a mountainbike (just on my racebike...). But I must admit I loved it and the job was a lot of fun. Check the outcome below.

Tuning Expo 2013 Saarbrücken

Recently, my good friend Philipp Uricher and I did some Demos at Tuning Expo 2013 Saarbrücken for FAC BMX Shows. Big thanks to the great organizers and the team (Lowriders, Breakdancers, Sexy Car Wash, Miss Tuning Contest,...), we had a really awesome weekend.

We also met some celebrities, including Henning from cardance.de and his friends. Those guys are legends and make the best lowrider cars around Germany. Just check Bon Voyage by Deichkind!

BMX Worlds 2013 Cologne

Once again Cologne, Jugendpark for the BMX Worlds 2013. This must be the 15th time or so attending a contest at the Cologne Jugendpark for me. This year was crazy. We had the biggest kunstform?! booth so far (125 square meters) and hell, it was a lot of work! We teamed up with Etnies this year and also had Tom Dugan as a special guest at our booth. I'd like to say hi to Ronnie B AKA Ron Bonner too. Most awesome guy on earth!

I also entered the contest even though I ruined my back building the booth. I got 14th and missed the finals for 2 places. Final would habe been possible but I gave up discussions about judging. I know how hard it is to compare apples with oranges... Nevertheless, I was happy with my run and had a great time.

Once again Cologne, Jugendpark. I had a great weekend meeting old and new friends, hanging with my friends @kunstform?! BMX Shop and - of course - riding the contest. As I do not have an indoor spot anymore and we have freezing temperatures down to -15°C, I rode more and more park and street lately. Definitely fun and refreshing after a long long absence.

kunstform?! BMX Shop - Moving & Reopening

I am sure all Germans know abount Stuttgart 21. Construction works are moving forward and as our BMX shop is located right at the main station we got a special "Present" on St. Nicholas Day: Eviction Notice until December 30th 2011. Yes you read right: 24 days to find a new location for our offline BMX shop!

As you can imagine, the month of December was quite intense. Lucily, we got a location offered right next to our old spot. By yesterday night we could almost finish the front office, but there is still a lot to do until the reopening on January 2nd 2012!

When I started kunstform?! out of my shared appartment in 2003, I would have never thought that it would take me so far. Below, you can find a timeline about what happend during the years. That thing works similar to Google Maps, so just play around with it.

Christmas Mix - or - I Predict A Diet

Christmas is on the way, plus it is heavily snowing outside. What else can be better to get into the mood of xmas with the right music? This time I'd recommend Bong - I Predict A Diet for you guys, which does go well with a few hot wine punches... Although I would not predict a diet if you ride hard during the holiday season. The Here Comes The Sun DVD came out in 2007 and is one of my favourite video parts until now when it comes to hard tricks. Aussie Stewart Munro is the producer, I guess some of you might know him from his work with Simon O'Brien.

Here Comes The Sun - from Australia to Stuttgart...

I had a lot of time filming this together with my friend Alex Ott who is now working for German Television, mainly filming soccer games around the world. I remember that we were extremely picky with combos and how they were filmed.

The Here Comes The Sun DVD itself covered different riders & styles from all around the globe. Definitely a honor to be part of this! Enjoy!

Rebeljam 2011 is over. I had a really nice weekend. My friend Bram Verhallen let us stay in his industrial office loft over the weekend and truly is one of the best hosts ever. Big thanks for the nice breakfast every morning!!!

This is for all the Funk/Soul and Hip Hop lovers. Very relaxing. I stumbled upon DJ Monos Behind the Curtain Mix back in 2010 and since then it became a good friend on my playlist.

The listener just needs to relax, sit back, and enjoy this ride back into time and sampled music history, enjoying 145 original songs mixed in a fluid and flawless mix.

I also have good memories about the Mix. Behind the Curtain was definitely the soundtrack when I went for the Ninja Spin 2011 with Markus Reich to stay at Matthias flat in the heart of Paris together with Adam Kun. Good times.

Welcome to my new Website

What can I say. I finally did it. I guess only a few of you guys know that I'm an online nerd, so it was just a matter of time to launch my own website. This site has three main purposes:

Collecting all my stuff from 15+ years of BMX riding
Supporting my sponsors
Collecting all that awesome randomness & music

Regarding BMX riding, I am really motivated right now. As most of you know, I turned 30 this year. I took this as a chance to take care about myself and fix my back and breathing problems. I am feeling better from day to day and although I have to take care doing x-footed stuff, I hope I will be back to 100% soon.

As most of you know Felt Bikes Pro & kunstform?! founder Seppl had some serious problems with his back for quite a long time now. Missing three contest finals in a row for just one place (Carhartt Game of Skills, Bike Days, BMX Masters) because it did not get any better, he decided to take a break. Like 3 years ago, Seppl took a doctors odyssey to finally get to the base on the ropes. Conclusion: Two lumbar vertebrae are too far forward. Lack of or wrong move, one-sided riding and stress surely do play a role as well. But all things come to an end. Seppl is currently on track to be fit again soon. "In the magical age of 30, I decided to listen to the signals of my body. Getting my back problems under control is only one part of the whole. I also got short of breath for ages. After 5 years of thinking, I got my nasal septum aligned and got my external nasal turbinates smaller." Last Sunday, Seppl came from the hospital and so far everything looks good. "By the way, the whole thing has nothing to do with cosmetic surgery..." Sounds plausible, we've already seen that it looks exactly the same. Moreover Seppl has a small video for you. "Since my doctor advised not to do x-footed tricks, I decided to take BMX riding easy...". If all goes well, Seppl will attend this years Rebeljam. In 2012, everything should hopefully be running as usual.

Long story short. Lean back, enjoy and come back. Besides all my riding stuff, I promise there will be lots of funny & hilarious craziness going on. I already have plenty of it for 300+ posts.

My friends talked me into participating ground tactics BMX online video battles. As I am not too consistent at comps at the moment, it just makes sense. Plus, and more important, I ride BMX Flat because I absolutely love the creativity part of it. And with our new office spot, my childhood dream came true. Riding there is like meditation.

There are still so many possibilities noone has ever done yet. Yesterday I came up with a new idea when I fell asleep. I know it is possible. Ride hard & see ya soon.
