Because 5+ billion people in planet earth spend in average two hours a day using their mobile phones to do their online activities like online banking, online shopping, hotel reservation, social collaborating, etc., companies are faced with challenge of migrating their traditional Java EE applications, so that they can address other end users with mobile and tablet devices.
In this session we will learn about some approaches to migrate traditional Java EE application to mobile leveraging specifications like RESTful, Context and Dependency Injection (CDI), Enterprese Java Beans (EJB3) and Messaging from Java Platform, Enterprise Edition (Java EE) 6 for the server-side services and the choice of client-side technologies which depends on key differentiators between mobile native app, mobile web app and mobile hybrid app.

During the session I talked about all diverse subsystems, interfaces and gateways we have in Red Hat JBoss Middleware products, that enable the connection and communication with others external systems like SAP.

The partner talked about the possible recommendations, approaches and real examples to integrate SAP with Red Hat JBoss Middleware products.

This week, I was for four days in Madrid, Spain at the Red Hat EMEA Partner Conference 2013 where I got during the third day the privilege to present the session Create Engaging User Experience with Red Hat JBoss Portal and FirstSpirit CMS together with two of my JBoss partners (e-Spirit and CGI).

I was very impressed about the quality and professionalism of the conference, great organization and with a large exhibition area where partners could socialize with sponsors and others attendees.

Forty-five peoples attended our presentaion and the feedback at the end was great.

Here are slides of the presentation you can download and enjoy!
I have many requests or PoC requests rather from JBoss Partners and Red Hat Customers in the DACH region concerning integration of AtiveMQ RAR in JBoss EAP 6 and because of that I have started this project to share knowledge with you through some setup and use-cases.
I would like to provide three quickstarts, first part is about installation, resource adapter integration and test with Arquillian.
Arquillian, a new testing framework developed at JBoss.org and supported in the JBoss Web Framework Kit by Red Hat, empowers the developer to write integration tests for business objects that are executed inside a container or that interact with the container as a client.

Second part will be to talk about a common Java EE 6 deployment Use-Case "ActiveMQ RAR JCA and Queues/Topics setup is configured in JBoss EAP 6 and JMS client and MDB are deployed in the same Java EE Container".

Third part will talk about this Use-Case "Queues/Topics setup is configured out of the Java EE Container (ActiveMQ Standalone Mode) and JMS client and MDB are running in the same JBoss EAP 6".

Part I - Installation, Resource Adapter integration and Test with Arquillian
To start with the installation you have to clone the project from bitbucket "https://bitbucket.org/spagop/jboss-a_mq6-integr-in-eap61". After that you have to change to the <path-to-project></path-to-project> folder and this will look similar like this structure:

-rw-r--r--@ 1 spagop  staff   793B May  9 12:56 README.md
drwxr-xr-x  7 spagop  staff   238B May  9 12:39 installs/
drwxr-xr-x  6 spagop  staff   204B May  9 11:52 projects/
-rwxr-xr-x@ 1 spagop  staff   4.6K May  9 12:30 setup.sh*
drwxr-xr-x  7 spagop  staff   238B May  6 17:34 support/

In the "installs" folder you have to download Red Hat JBoss A-MQ and Red Hat JBoss EAP 6.1.0.Beta from the JBoss Customer Portal and copy these binaries to the "installs" folder thereby the "setup.sh" script to work.
After that, you can run the "setup.sh" script to install and integrate your JBoss A-MQ/ActiveMQ RAR in JBoss EAP 6.0.1.Beta.
If you see this message "Red Hat JBoss A-MQ 6.0.0.GA RAR Integration in Red Hat JBoss EAP 6.1.0.BETA Complete.", you are successfully installed and integrated the resource adapter in JBoss EAP.
Now you can test your installation with Arquillian tests. You have to download JBoss Developer Studio 6.0.1 and import the project from the projects folder and all tests can be found in "src/test/java" folder.

"Please note that JBoss A-MQ integration with JBoss EAP 6 is not yet supported by Red Hat and do not use this for your production environment"

Note: I'm very open for any suggestion and enhancement.

Location: evodion Information Technologies GmbH, Högerdamm 41, 20097 Hamburg

Abstract:
Einführung in JBoss A-MQ/ActiveMQ

This session gives deep insight in the JBoss OSGi subsytem that is available in the JBoss Application Server. Starting with background information on OSGi and Java Modularity in general, Thomas introduces the main objectives of this technology and explains the unique JBoss OSGi vision. Combining the best of two worlds he shows how modern Enterprise Applications on AS7 can use the OSGi component model and vice versa.

The goal for this milestone 1 was to enable the partners with the EAP 6 features (architecture, classloader, operational modes, connecting with the servers, security, migration, ...) and knowledge.

the next milestone 2 will be in Paderborn (10.05-11.05). That means if you're now a JBoss Ready Partner and you're planning to be a JBoss Advanced/Premier Partner and you are interested in participation, please get in contact with your JBoss Partner Key Account or try to contact me.

See you in Paderborn!

Before we start with this episode, users need to know the difference between JBoss Community project and JBoss Enterprise Middleware Products.

JBoss AS7.1 community project driven by Red Hat

Implemented the JEE 6 specification, without ASL-based support, with the latest innovations, used by developers for testing and integrating middleware capacities and well suited for early to advanced pro typing and development

JBoss Enterprise Application Platform 6.0 product will be provided by Red Hat

Integrated, tested and certified Enterprise Platform. Subscription of such a product includes patches, updates, SLA-based support, multi-year maintenance policies, and also a Red Hat Open Source Assurance.

This a Best of both worlds - Rapid innovation, with long-term stability, supportability and maintainability

What is it?

This episode will show you and demonstrate the use of JMS 1.1 and EJB 3.1 Message-Driven Bean deployed in the JBoss Application Server 7.1

System requirements

To build successful this episode you need following softwares to be installed:

JBoss Application Server 7.1. get the last version (AS7.1.0CR1b) from here http://www.jboss.org/jbossas/downloads

If you want to use Eclipse with JBoss Tools to run this episode, please download and install the version 3.7.1 of eclipse and the version 3.3.0.M5 of JBoss Tools from here http://download.jboss.org/jbosstools/updates/development/indigo/

The applications this project produces is designed to be run on a JBoss AS 7.1.x

NOTE: This episode will use the already default configured connection factory named "InVmConnectionFactory" with the jndi "java:/ConnectionFactory" and a queue named "testQueue" with the jndi "queue/test". The artifacts will come from the JBoss Community Maven repository, a superset of the Maven central repository.

Code for this episode can be downloaded from here https://github.com/jbossas/quickstart/tree/master/helloworld-mdb

With the prerequisites out of the way, you're ready to build and deploy.

Application Structure

Our application consists of the following components:

HelloWorldMDBServletClient: a servlet 3.0 application acts as client that sends several messages to a defined queue

HelloWorldMDB: a message-driven bean that asynchronously receives and processes the messages that are sent to the queue by the servlet application

HelleworldMDBServletClient Servlet 3.0 class

this servlet application acts as client application and send several messages to a defined queue named "testQueue", that the message-driven bean application HelloWorldMDB listens to. Required components for sending messages are injection of the connection factory and the queue resources:

@Resource(mappedName = "java:/ConnectionFactory")

private static ConnectionFactory connectionFactory;

@Resource(mappedName = "java:/queue/test")

private static Queue queue;

the next action items will be to create connection, session and message produces in the servlet method doGet()

connection = connectionFactory.createConnection();

Session session = connection.createSession(false,Session.AUTO_ACKNOWLEDGE);

MessageProducer messageProducer = session.createProducer(queue);

Now we are ready to send several messages

TextMessage message = session.createTextMessage();

Message-Driven Bean class

The HelloWorldMDB is a simple message-driven bean class uses the annotation @MessageDriven to define some very important properties like the "destinationType" and "destination", …

@MessageDriven(name = "HelloWorldMDB", activationConfig = {

    @ActivationConfigProperty(propertyName = "destinationType", propertyValue = "javax.jms.Queue"),

     @ActivationConfigProperty(propertyName = "destination", propertyValue = "queue/test"),

     @ActivationConfigProperty(propertyName = "acknowledgeMode", propertyValue = "Auto-acknowledge")

}

)

public class HelloWorldMDB implements MessageListener {

…

The next action item will be to write the logic in the onMessage method. This method is invoked by the EJB container when the queue receives a message. The method onMessage is used for JMS API and is a method of the MessageListener Interface.

The onMessage method casts the incoming message to a TestMessage to display the text as String

public void onMessage(Message rcvMessage) {

                    msg = (TextMessage) rcvMessage;

               } else {

               }

          } catch (JMSException e) {

               throw new RuntimeException(e);

          }

}

Deploying the application

First of all you need to enable the "admin" user from $JBOSS_HOME/standalone/configuration/mgmt-users.properties file, and then start JBoss AS 7.1.x. by running this script

$JBOSS_HOME/bin/standalone.sh

or if you are using windows

$JBOSS_HOME/bin/standalone.bat

To deploy the application, you first need to produce the archive to deploy using the following Maven goal:

mvn package

You can now deploy the artifact to JBoss AS by executing the following command:

mvn jboss-as:deploy

This will deploy target/jboss-as-helloworld-mdb.war.

The application will be running at the following URL http://localhost:8080/jboss-as-helloworld-mdb/HelloWorldMDBServletClient.

Go to the JBoss Application Server console or Server log and the result can look like this:

15:42:35,453 INFO class org.jboss.as.quickstarts.mdb.HelloWorldMDB) Received Message: This is message 1

15:42:35,455 INFO class org.jboss.as.quickstarts.mdb.HelloWorldMDB) Received Message: This is message 2

15:42:35,457 INFO class org.jboss.as.quickstarts.mdb.HelloWorldMDB) Received Message: This is message 3

15:42:35,478 INFO class org.jboss.as.quickstarts.mdb.HelloWorldMDB) Received Message: This is message 5

15:42:35,481 INFO class org.jboss.as.quickstarts.mdb.HelloWorldMDB) Received Message: This is message 4

To undeploy from JBoss AS, run this command:

mvn jboss-as:undeploy

You can also start JBoss AS 7 and deploy the project using Eclipse. See the JBoss AS 7 Getting Started Guide for Developers for more information.

Pete gave a talk about the new JSR 299 - Contexts and Dependency and Dependency Injection for Java EE. Even though the name of the JSR 299 is very long, Pete started with some backgrounds of this JSR, about loose coupling with events, interceptors and decorators and then he explained which extras will be provided by Web Beans (Tomcat/Jetty support, Java SE, OSGI Containers, ..) and also about some features which can be used in any JSR299 Env. (Seam 2 bridge, Spring bridge, and Wicket support) and He also talked about the future of SEAM 3 and then he jumped into the concepts und status for the first release of the Web Beans RI.
If you want to know more about the presentation, here is the slide of the JSR 299 C & D & DI.

Here the abstract:

JSR-299: Contexts and Dependency Injection for Java EE is an elegant set of new services for Java that draws upon ideas from JBoss Seam and Google Guice. While many of the features provided (dependency injection, contextual lifecycle, configuration, interception, event notification) are familiar, the innovative use of meta-annotations is uniquely expressive and typesafe.

In this session, Pete will introduce how JSR-299: Contexts and Dependency Injection for Java EE enhances the Java EE programming model step by step, and describe how it integrates with existing other Java EE technologies, such as EJB 3.0, JSF, and Servlets.

MUST ~ REQUIRED ~ SHALL - Is an absolute requirement.

SHOULD ~ RECOMMENDED - It is strongly suggested to follow the instructions, but deviation is not excluded, if there is a reason.
